Amelia Richardson, Gryffindor 5th year, was confused. How could every Slytherin in the whole school have the same narrow-minded prejudice about Muggleborns? It was so dumb! Amelia, being a Muggleborn herself, has seen this stupidity first hand. Every Slytherin she was ever in contact with seemed to sense that she a "mudblood." Mudblood... what a stupid name for an insult! Mud was dirty water, so did that mean that Muggles were dirty? That they were unclean? They were people too! They were human beings just the same as Wizards. Besides, she wasn't all 'unclean,' her great grandmother had been a witch, just her grandfather had been a squib and so was her mother... It just happened to pass onto Amelia instead of the first two generations...
Amelia sighed as her thoughts considered the stupidity of the Slytherin mind. She was sitting in the student lounge, comfortable in her white blouse and loose-fitting black slacks. Her tie had been bothersome so she had loosened it, then untied it all together. It lay limp, across her shoulders like some dead snake. A scarlet snake... Amelia giggled slightly at the thought. A flat scarlet snake. Then she sighed again, wondering why the Slytherins and Gryffindors hated each other so much... Was the feud between the two houses so old that no one remembered? Or did the teachers know, just not want to reveal it?
She shrugged, it was pointless anyway... it was never going to change anyway, well... at least, not while she was still attending Hogwarts. She leaned back in the comfortable chair in the student lounge, staring into the fire place. No fire burned because of the warm weather, dead logs lay in black ashes. She bit her lip. How long had she been sitting there? She should get back to studying for her finals... but the evil demon of procrastination and it's twin, laziness, seemed to whisper at her. She decided her studying could wait until tomorrow...

Mal rolled his head to the left hearing the distinct sound of a pop. He smiled quickly at the release of the tension. If only his whole body from the back up wasn't aching than maybe he would have a better time trying to play his guitar. Alas, things were just not working out for him today. He placed the guitar back in the case and slid the case under his fourposter in his dormitory. He was bored of studying. Besides he didn't really know what else he needed to study. His memory was pretty good, not to mention the usefulness of a photographic memory. It seemed that anything he had ever read was just sitting there at the top of his brain ready to be called upon if ever he should need it. He ran a hand through his hair and smiled. It was good to be smart and talented. However, he had to think about the books he hadn't read yet. He still had several chapters to go in Potions and Transfiguration. If he ignored them than it would probably be 60% of the questions on the end of year exam. That's all he needed to deal with. His grandmother would certainly make him a servant if he failed. Besides that would mean he would have to do another year of work for the old bat and that he could handle. He, Malcolm Theodore Reynolds Jr., would be enslaved for another year if he didn't get to his studies.
The thought seemed to motivate him more than normal. Mal picked himself up from his bed and grabbed his school bag from the floor. Draping it across his shoulder he grabbed his wand and headed for the Common Room, however he quickly changed destination as he opened the door and heard the low roar of students in the common room. Today would definitely not be a good day to work in the common room. Instead he headed out of the Slytherin dormitory and up the stairs toward the student lounge. At least there he could get some piece and quiet even if that meant dealing with mudbloods and half-breeds. Although he wasn't in much of a mood to deal with them period. He however, put aside his dislike for them and opened the door to the student lounge. Sure enough he spotted several right off the bat, having run-in to them before.
Mal spotted a table near the dead fire place and headed for it. Maybe even a comfortable chair in front of the fire place would be inviting. However, as he reached the chairs another was already seated in one. He resisted the urge to roll his eyes at the girl, but instead just nodded briskly before turning toward the table near her. He recognized the red Gryffindor tie on her shoulder. He couldn't help it. Mal would have done much better if he had just turned and left, but his own belief in superiority just blinded him from acting rational sometimes. He turned back to the girl and glared. "The perfect picture of a Gryffindor. Lazy and unproductive. If only someone here could take a photo, though it would get rather boring watching after a while, since all that would happen is you sitting in that chair all day long maybe yawning occasionally. Would you even decide get up and leave once in a while in the photo? Probably not," Mal said as he answered his own question. Mal smirked at the girl as he waited for some kind of thoughtless response as were all Gryffindor replies.

It was rather peaceful in the Student Lounge, Amelia decided. The room was always cold in the summer. Most likely a spell enchanted so that air conditioners weren't needed. Not that they'd have worked anyway... Everyone knew that electronics didn't work in Hogwarts and that didn't exclude Amelia. She titled her head as she relaxed in her chair. Her leg twitched with the need to get up and move, but she was so tired for some reason. She sighed, deciding she should go do something, but a voice made her look up. A Slytherin boy sneered down at her. Amelia cursed mentally. Here we go...
He was insulting her with, what he must have thought, was a clever remark to the Slytherin's stereotypical idea of a Gryffindor. She sighed, waiting for him to finish. When he did, she just looked up calmly. She almost laughed at his smirk. Oh wow... this one was very concieted. She sighed and turned in the chair to look at him confused.
"I don't understand." She said in an innocent voice and a blank look on her face, "If I'm so lazy, then why are you insulting me just to get me out of this chair? I know it's comfortable, but do you have to go provocing anyone who just so happens to be sitting in something that probably has more brains than you... Do you really need all that much jelousy in your life?" She hoped he would leave her alone after that. It may not have been her best come back, but it was something at least.
