"I was working in the lab late one night When my eyes beheld an eerie sight For my monster from his slab began to rise And suddenly to my surprise He did the mash He did the monster mash" Kia sang along with her mini wireless peacefully, flicking away a strand of blonde hair that fell into her eyes absent-mindedly. That song had just been stuck in her head for days and Kia still wasn't bored of singing, humming, whistling or just thinking the words. Sure, it had been a small amount of trouble to get a muggle song onto music crystal but it had been done and Kia was content. She wasn't exactly sure how she had come to know about the song, let alone enjoy hearing it so much as to have it on a music crystal, since she was pureblooded and had little to no contact with the muggle world but did it really matter? No. The Student Lounge wasn't really crowded, which was a rather big surprise considering the rain splashing down on the ground outside. Kia frowned slightly, lifting her head up to count the people inside the Lounge silently. One, two..four...six. The frown deepened and an eyebrow quirked curiously. Six people, not including herself. Was something happening that she didn't know about? A ball, an important announcement, a quidditch match? But that didn't make sense. There would have been notices and gossip. Kia shrugged, not really caring about the absence of the usual, rowdy crowds but utterly glad to have some peace and quiet. The students had been rowdier and noisier than ever, it seemed. Possibly the reason was the closeness of the summer holidays but really, couldn't they celebrate quietly? Kia blinked in faint surprise. Quiet. She wanted quiet? That was not like her at all. Generally she was one of the...well, not rowdy or noisy but energetic and cheerful. Yes, she was one of the energetic and cheerful students; loving to make people laugh and doing everything possible to bring a smile to peoples faces. Often described as a clown, but that was a name Kia resented. She had never dressed up in baggy clothes and painted her face just to make people laugh nor would she ever! If she couldn't make people laugh while just being dressed normally then they could stay unlaughing! The upbeat tempo of a new song starting on her wireless switched Kia's attention to the sketchbook lying on her lap. She wasn't extremely talented but she had a small amount of talent for sketching and painting. Lately she had been sketching more than ever, putting aside her preferred choice of paints and colours to concentrate on shading and improving her skills for drawing. That was the thing with Kia; she could be absolutely awful at something but if she enjoyed it then she'd spend hours trying to improve her skills. Now, she wasn't exactly awful at drawing but she certainly needed some improvement.Yet she couldn't really improve her skills at school because her strongest point was drawing people and not many students were willing to sit down and stay still for as long as it took for Kia to get everything exactly right. But that didn't matter. Her family were supportive of her wish to improve and would be content to sit for a few sketches. ((*shrugs* I did say that I was obsessed at the moment. ))

You get high-jacked, waiting at the bus stop by Jesus, who's working at the pawn shop. Escaped by, barely in the picture, but never far from the lens. You'd never risk it, inherently self-conscious. So twisted, resting on your haunches. So mystic, paintin' in a poncho. You better get ready. Everybody's out to have a good time. Live it up, like there's no time left. Just like there's no tomorrow. Live it up, like there's no time left. And there's no time to kill. Live it up, like there's no time left. And no time left to borrow. Why don't you try to get it right this time. Get it right this time. Marcy had become the master at putting muggle songs on her WWW, she didn't know how she did it - but she did, so now it was a simple process. She had more muggle songs on it than wizard songs, but that's probably because the muggle music she liked could top the wizard music any day. She didn't know how she had heard half of the music she loved, living in the home they were ever rarely permitted to listen to music. However she did it, she wasn't complaining she liked music - especially muggle music.
Marcy made her way to the student lounge, hoping to be able to just listen to her music and lounge around. Possibly with a magazine. She was back to her spunky outfits for today, which meant she was feeling like her normal self. Today she wore a pink shirt with a black skull and cross bones on it, she wore a black skirt that had a black jean top but ruffles underneath so it fanned out. Her shoes were her chucks, and her hair was pulled back into two knots. She wore her necklace as usual, and her bracelets, her kitty dangling earrings and her aviator sunglasses. Many people remarked on Marcy's outfits when she wasn't in uniform but they were who she was, and she didn't care what other people thought about her. Really. People who cared what other's thought about them, were more likely to be sociopaths, and that wasn't someone Marcy wanted to be. She wanted to be her own person. She didn't want to have to answer to anyone about anything, especially her style.
She opened the door to the student lounge and narrowed her eyes, seeing there were only about six people in there. That's when she remembered that she had overheard a bunch of Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws talking about a large study group out in the courtyard, maybe that's where everyone was. Marcy shrugged, more solitude, the better. By now her music had changed to Bon Jovi. Dressed up for a big date. Like Halloween day but it was Fourth of July now. A car crash with a suitcase and a painted face. She was one of a kind. She wears a plastic crown like Cinderella. And roller skates in bed. This was one of her favourites, she loved Bon Jovi but Captain Crash and the Beauty Queen from Mars was just amazing. Marcy smiled and made her way over to a girl she recognized, well knew really. Kiana Brightstar was in her year and house, so they were dorm mates. She saw she was listening to music, and headed over, sitting next to her; "Whatcha listening to?"

I get no kick from champagne. Mere alcohol doesn't thrill me at all. So tell me why should it be true, that I get a kick out of you. Some like the perfume from Spain. I'm sure that if I took even one sniff, it would bore me terrifically too. But I get a kick out of you. I get a kick every time I see you standing there before me. I get a kick though it's clear to see, you obviously do not adore me... Kia hummed the tune and chuckled impishly, her hand automatically reaching for the pencil that was usually kept tucked behind her right ear. A few seconds was spent wondering where she had put her pencil before the reality of the matter crashed into her brain. That darn wall. Alright, so the wall wasn't exactly to blame. Kia shouldn't have thrown her pencil at it, but if the wall hadn't been so hard then the pencil wouldn't have broken and Kia wouldn't be mourning her beloved pencil! And just when she had such inspiration too. Kia could almost see it now; a man bending down on one knee, desperately pleading for his love to accept his proposal. A woman, standing up and looking down on the man disdainfully, smirking or laughing. What inspiration songs could give, but what a nuisance walls were!
The song changed again but this time Kia wrinkled her nose in disgust, flicking through to another song quickly and smiling contentedly. When you're the best of friends, having so much fun together, you're not even aware that you're such a funny pair. You're the best of friends. Life's a happy game, you could clown around forever. Neither one of you sees your natural boundaries. Life's one happy game. If only the world wouldn't get in the way... The fox and the hound. An old muggle movie that her dad had brought home for Kia when she was younger, to amuse her when she was ill. It was a strange pair really, a fox and a hound. Natural enemies but sometimes such things don't matter when friendship happens before instincts kick in. Kia smiled sadly, remembering the end of the movie. The two friends had turned against each other, the hound hurt by the death of his friend and blaming the poor fox. Obviously, friendship meant nothing when strong emotions got in the way.
Kia reached for her pencil again but stopped midway and diverted her attention to the bag lying at her feet, rifling through it in search of her art pencils. She bounced back up, muffling a triumphant yell and earning a few strange looks for the action. Eh well. Kia had been getting strange looks throughout her three years at Hogwarts and she wasn't going to change just because of those looks. In anyone had a problem with her behaviour then they could go to her and she'd listen but she wouldn't change for no reason. It just wasn't her nature. Ah yes, Kia shook her head slightly and turned her eyes back to her sketchbook, slowly sketching out the outline of a fox and hound facing each other. Whether they were playing or fighting, Kia hadn't decided yet nor did she care. The important thing right now was to get the outline perfect, or as close to perfect as she could, before thinking about changing the poses or the expression on their faces.
"Marcy," Kia looked up and grinned easily, always glad to have company, before setting her sketchbook aside but making a mental note to finish the sketch later. She had a bad habit of completely forgetting about sketches and coming back to them weeks later but not knowing what the drawing was meant to be about. "Just some muggle songs. They just seem better than our wizarding ones." Kia shrugged and smiled sheepishly. "Nice shirt. I especially love the skull and cross bones." The compliment was genuine. Kia really liked Marcy's unique style and admired the fact that Marcy wouldn't change. Hey, it was her style, why should she have to change because of others feelings? Kia studied Marcy openly and smiled slightly, the two had been sharing a dorm for three years but had never bothered to...Kia frowned and rolled her eyes. Never bothered to what? Share their deepest, darkest secrets and then giggle mindlessly over a carton of ice-cream? That wasn't Kia's style. Especially if the ice-cream was strawberry ice-cream. Strawberry ice-cream really should be banned. "Tell me something. Anything." Kia shrugged, not caring if Marcy thought her weird. If she wasn't used to Kia's random questions and actions by now then she never would be. Heck, Kia distantly remembered bouncing around the dorm in the early hours of the morning and singing about ice-cream...or was it parrots? Eh well, the point was that Kia often did things that would be considered strange by others but were perfectly normal to her.

Marcy looked down at her shirt and smiled, "Yeah, it's one of my favourite shirts. There's this great little shop in Hogsmeade that sells them if...you are interested." Marcy sat back and fiddled with a loose string of jean on her skirt. "And you're right," she added, looking up just as she ripped the loose string from her skirt, "Muggle music is better than wizarding music. Don't know why, but I like their selection more." She shrugged and let the string flitter to the floor. She pulled one of her headphones out of her ear, and let it dangle so she could listen to Kia a little bit better than she had been. 'I'm Feeling You' by Michelle Branch feauturing Santana started playing in her ear, and Marcy grinned. Two of her favourite artists together in one song, not to mention it was a very good song. "Tell me something. Anything." Kia was saying. Marcy bit down on her lower lip and thought about something to tell her. There wasn't much to say, Marcy really didn't know anything that might be interesting for Kia. Sure, they had shared a dorm for the past three years - but she hadn't really gotten to know her like she should have. What she did know about Kia was all good things and that she was just a lively character. Finally, Marcy just said the first thing that came to her mind; "Music was sent down a telephone line for the first time in 1876, the year the phone was invented. About one-third of recorded CDs are pirated. The first pop video was Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, released in 1975. The Beatles song "Martha My Dear" was written by Paul McCartney about his sheepdog Martha. I'm just full of fun facts about music and such." She smiled sheepishly and looked around the Student Lounge. There weren't many people there, not that there were when Marcy first entered, but now it seemed others left. There were about three left, not including Marcy and Kia. She shrugged and turned back to Kia, "Do those constitute as anything?" ((Sorry it's so short, I got to it. But Marcy isn't speaking to me for this post as much as I wish she would. ))

"Hogsmeade," Kia repeated thoughtfully, storing it to memory and fully intending to visit that shop. "You might have to give me directions though." Kia smiled sheepishly, "I'm not so good with finding my way to shops based only upon what they sell but I'm definitely interested in buying something from there." Kia grinned and flicked her wireless off in order to give Marcy her full attention. Well, as much attention as she gave anyone before something shiny or interesting caught her attention and distracted her. That actually happened a lot but not so much recently. Kia never really meant to ignore anyone she was talking too - she just had a very short attention span and was easily distracted. "I don't even really remember how I got to hear muggle music but I certainly wouldn't give up listening to it. It's just a better selection and more talented and interesting, in my opinion anyway. Most others wouldn't agree with me but I don't really care. Each to their own and all."
Kia grinned in bemused delight when Marcy obeyed her request. Asking someone to tell you anything always gave Kia an insight into the persons personality and brain. They would generally choose to talk about something that they had a genuine interest in and didn't even realise that they could unconsciously be giving away information about themselves. For example, Marcys answer told Kia that Marcy adored music and either read up on all those facts or could just recall music facts instantly. "Those certainly do count as anything," Kia answered with a small grin, amused by the small insight into Marcy. She had just learned more about the girl in less than a minute than she had learned in just under three years. The wonders of a small and simple request that, when answered, would bring so much insight to a persons soul. No one had ever tried the trick on Kia; probably because she was one of the few weird enough to realise the trick and use it on others. How many other people would think of using that harmless request to learn about others whom they barely knew?
