Piper wasn’t sure what time it was- twelve? Half eleven? One? She glanced momentarily at her watch- a bright orange Mickey Mouse collector’s watch, which Piper didn’t know why she had. It was a glow-in-the-dark antique and even in the dark of the Student Lounge Piper could still see the shining face and bright red outfit. The watch had been a present for her on her seventh birthday- even though she disliked most Disney movies and despised Mickey Mouse videos; she liked the watch a little and for some reason hadn’t ever changed it. 2:06 Piper read, a little startled. She must have dosed off a little back there- the Gryffie had come in at around eleven to read up on History of Magic subjects, but clearly she had been too tired. What to do now? She sighed softly. It was Saturday morning. Everyone was asleep apart from Piper- the Student Lounge was completely empty. She glanced around, as if to confirm.
What could she do? Even though she had obviously been tired before she now felt awake and alert. At home, if she felt like this, she would go riding. But obviously she couldn’t do that in Hogwarts. The only thing close to riding which was available at the castle was Quidditch but Piper thought it best to maybe not go flying at 2:06 am. Actually it was now 2:07, Piper corrected herself mentally. And if she went flying she’d have to get her broom which would take about five minutes- then change, then go outside…. She stopped her thoughts with another sigh and became suddenly alert to another presence in the Student Lounge.
Piper hated eavesdropping. It was boring- staying still for such a long time. It wasn’t very nice either. Piper had a big belief for privacy- she used to hate her own mother helping her change even at the ages of four and five. Whenever she rode, she liked to do it in privacy. Unless of course it was a competition- then people would obviously have to watch her. But at home Piper often rode her horses in private and didn’t like others to watch her. It made her uncomfortable, eyes staring. When she rode in competitions she often glanced up to look for her next jump and was nerved by the amount of eyes staring. Blue-green-brown- all staring at her intently. When she glanced into those eyes she started suddenly, and then sighed. Even if she was amazingly, terribly bored she still preferred to be alone in the Student Lounge.
She recognised the boy slightly- he was in Harry Potter's year and house. Scottish wasn't he? Or irish... one of Piper's friends in the year above Piper thought him handsome- but had been wary to talk to the boy because of his close friendship with Harry Potter. Piper herself didn't care about friends or anything- about who you know who fought you-know-who. And wasn't Harry Potter a good guy? Piper didn't know. Her fourth year friend had long ago collected and read all of those stupid newspapers about Harry and how he was 'dilusional' and slightly deranged. Piper stayed out of that reign on things- Harry seemed like a normal boy from what she new of him (which was his name only) who just happened to run into trouble...a lot. Either way Piper saw this elder boy and sighed. Would she have to introduce herself and go through all that welcoming-junk? She didn't smile as she looked at the boy but didn't send waves of coldness either.
