It hadn't been a very good day for Tobias but most days weren't. People always seemed to annoy him so easily, always talking about useless things. The whole day everywhere he went there were people being annoying. He knew they were just having fun he just wished they could do it somewhere else, preferably far away from him. It was around 12:30 at night when Tobias entered the student lounge, and as he thought it was empty. He knew he should be asleep but he didn't really care, he also didn't care if that annoy cat of finch's caught him he just wanted to be alone. Tobias toke a seat by the fire and closed his eyes. He was always so serious most of the time always to busy stuck in the past.
"It's sad to say but I would probably be like them if things happened differently." He said talking out loud, looking into the flames. He closed his eyes and started to think about the past, people he couldn't stand, people he never wanted to see again and a place he never wanted to return to again. He opened his eyes looking back at the flames. "Maybe I should be nicer to people." He said thinking out loud. "No, I'm fine right now no need to change that." Just then a figure appeared outside the door way to the student lounge. "Just what I needed someone trying to get late night work done? Or maybe a professor?" He said looking back at the flames. "I need to find a better place to be alone someday." Deciding not to leave, he just didn't feel like moving for anything or anyone right now.

She couldn’t sleep. Mack was asleep, Calista was asleep, Monica, Maddie, Fiona, Aubree, Alexandra – no movement from any of the beds at least even if they weren’t asleep. Water. Mary wanted water. Mary wanted to get up. Maybe to read. Maybe she could shut her curtains and read… But then she wouldn’t sleep that night would she? Water though… No she didn’t want water she wanted to sleep, Maybe going for a walk… There was an idea, she would take a walk.
Mary slipped out of bed and put on a black top with a pair of dark blue jeans. She threw on a pair of black shoes with three-inch stiletto heels and a long dark green robe before starting out of the room. Normally she would not leave without a purse but she didn’t want to have anything for Filch to confiscate on her if she got caught tonight.
The common room was near empty – only two students in there and neither in Mary’s year or direct social circle. Out the door and up the steps she went and randomly traversed the deserted halls. It seemed like ages since she had been out in the halls this late – it was comforting. She knew these halls but it was still unfamiliar since they were never this still. As she was crossing the student lounge she noticed the door was slightly open and the fire was still ablaze.
A boy was speaking by the fire and Mary listened for a moment before opening the door wider and speaking. “Top three signs you are going insane; number three you lounge around the student lounge in the middle of the night, number two you talk to yourself, number one you realize someone is listening and continue talking to yourself trying to think up who they may be.” She said with a smirk still half in the room half out in the halls.

Tobias Kind of hoped the person would just pass by or maybe walk in and go to the other end of the room and leave him alone but that didn't seem like it was going to happen. He looked over at the figure to see it was a girl soon she started to talk to him as she stood by the door. Tobias didn't really care he was being called insane and soon thought of something to say back to her. "Well if I'm insane for being in here at the middle of the night, what does that make you walking around at this time?" He said not even smirking just turning back to the flame. "Maybe you’re half insane?" And with that he made some what of a smirk.
"Anyway if I'm going insane I have the right to do so no matter what room I'm in." He said looking over at the door again. ” Great still there." He thought to himself, he kind of hoped she would leave well he wasn't looking. "Maybe you should find your own room to be insane in." He said smiling hoping she would take has advice and leave him alone, which he doubted she would but it was worth a try. "I suggest one of the bathrooms maybe the one with that crying ghost... what’s her name again." He said half smiling actually trying to remember her name. "Moaning something I thing?"

Mary smirked at his feeble response, he must be exhausted. She went in and sat at a chair by him as he spoke on and on. “You are insane for lounging around at this time of night. I am an insomniac for walking around at this hour – big difference. And you’re right you are allowed to go insane in any room but you would think some common decency would confine you to your own bed. But then you muggle lovers did have much of that did you? Walk around the castle like you own the place just because you outnumber those of us who deserve our place here and the headmaster is a nut job. Let me guess, you were born to muggles? That would explain why you have no shame speaking to yourself.
Anyways, when was the last time you went into the ladies room to visit Myrtle? Is this the lack of shame thing again? I suppose its true what they say, when filth breed you get nothing but dirt as a result.” The retort had barely left her lips when Mary sunk further in her chair and closed her eyes feeling the heat from the fire on her face. It actually was relaxing here – she had forgotten just how. Fact was Mary had not entered the student lounge all year because she didn’t want to have to associate with muggle loving trash. But then tonight was special as this boy seemed to be a nutter – and older than her to boot. He looked older at least and was certainly not in her year or she would know his name. She wasn’t about to offer hers real quick though, but he may already know it due to her appalling behaviour last year. She wasn’t about to bring that up in a hurry either though,

Tobias smirked then thought to himself as she sat down and started talking. ” To think I won't be happy all day but as soon as someone tries to insult me that’s when I have fun." He thought listening to her the whole time. "Common decency you say? Well I guess I was being decent when I didn't wake everyone up with me going insane and all." He said looking away from the flame and looking to her. "And I wouldn't say I'm a Muggle lover. To tell you the truth I'm not a big human fan in general." He said closing his eyes. "I just think we shouldn't go around attacking muggles for no real reason." He said opening his eyes. "Nope still there." He thought hoping somehow she was gone and he could be alone again.
"Also you don't have to go into the ladies room to hear her crying." He said remember the few times he walked past it just hearing her sob feeling bad about it but kept walking. He kept listening to her as she kept with the insults. When she started to got to talk about dirt he decided to join in the conversation again. "But even dirt is more friendly and trustworthy then a snake." Tobias just smirked. "But most snakes just look dangerous, no venom." He said Looking back at the flames and closing his eyes.

Mary sighed as the boy attempted to retort about waking up his roommates. “Well that is what they invented silencing charms for, you know. Or have you not grasped the concept of them yet? Suppose they don’t use them much around you home?” Mary teased.
He then explained how he “wasn’t a muggle lover” at which she scoffed. “Sure sound like a muggle lover to me. And not just because it is a prerequisite for any house but Slytherin to be lax when it comes to dealing with them. And “attacking muggles for no good reason” how about that they are useless, not even worth being used as a shoe rag considering they are always moving about so it would take too much work for my house elves to catch them and use them to shine my shoes.
“Or what about the fact that wizard kind was driven into hiding to accommodate them? How about that they would attack us if we didn’t stay hidden? How about all the space they take up? And what do they do for us in return for allowing them their happy little magic free life? Absolutely nothing is what. Useless creatures those muggles.” Mary said with something bordering on loathing in her tone.
She just ignored his comment about Myrtle because it would be only too easy to point out that he made the effort to at least learn half of what she was called plus she must have been playing on his mind in order for him to bring her up. Granted Mary wasn’t one to pass up a cheap and easy shot and those who were she believed simply didn’t know how to deal them. What is the point of holding in a good retort when one comes up? Not like you care for the person you are arguing with so if they get upset… all the better for you.
“Friendly and trustworthy?” Mary scorned. “You really think those are admirable qualities? Well you certainly aren’t smart enough to be a Ravenclaw… First of all, how do you know how friendly snakes are within themselves? Think of Slytherins, for example, only friendly to those worthy, while muggle lovers or worse muggleborns, aren’t worth the effort it takes to be nice to them. And being trustworthy is something to strive for, you think? Being trustworthy equates to being predictable which makes it quite easy to be manipulated. It’s the trustworthy noble people who get screwed over, isn’t it? Because it’s just far too easy it’s not even worth the effort of avoiding. Of course, if you want to know how dangerous a snake actually is you could allow them to bite you, many are quite hazardous you know.” Mary finished with a self satisfied smirk.

He moved his head over in her direction then opened his eyes. "You sure can talk can't you?" He said in a tired voice thinking about some of the things she said. "Well seeing as I was going insane I wasn't in the right mind to think of using any silencing charms and yes we don't use charm much where I'm from.“ He said agreeing with her, she was right after all they didn't use any magic at the orphanage. He just left out the fact that he went there in the summer, no need to give her anymore reasons to talk about him. ” I wish I was along again." He thought for a second, he was happy that way and almost asleep. “Also back to the decency topic, wouldn't it be decent to leave someone alone as they went insane?"
"Well useless or not that doesn't really give anyone the right to throw them around like dolls, this generation didn't put us into hiding so why take revenge on them." He said, he was too tired to think of anything better then that. He had to admit she was pretty mean but he was used to it back at the orphanage, it had gotten better as he got older because basically he was older but still there was always someone older then him trying pick a fight with him. He looked back at the flames and watched them dance then yawned covering his mouth.
"But if you really want to go a Muggle attacking rampage I could give you a list of a few muggles back home I wouldn't miss." Tobias smiled and not seriously meaning it but just thinking about the few people he wouldn't miss seeing when he left Hogwarts. "Well that could be counted as being friendly I guess, but I still don't think that's being friendly." He said looking over at her. "And being trustworthy doesn't mean you have to be predictable, it means that you have people you can trust and they can trust in you in return. Not just get betrayed and leave you for dead."

Mary simply smirked at the boy’s comment that she could talk. Fact was, she could. She could talk on and on for hours – talk people out of the argument so they give in and she always wins. Well almost always, some people fought as hard as she did and that never ends well. But then it’s always so much more fun when they fight back. That’s why Mary avoided arguments with young Hufflepuffs – they always let her win. Of course her smirk only widened as he confirmed they didn’t use silencing charms at his house – likely was a muggleborns.
“Decency in leaving the wackos alone? You are the one who was choosing to go insane in the student lounge as though that was your right. I am an Evans, my family has been going to this school for countless generations. And through those generations my family has given countless galleons tot his school. My blood is as pure as can be with magic flowing through longer than living memory can vouch for. I own this school, or should at least. What’s your excuse for using the student lounge like your personal space?” Honestly, a muggleborn trying to tell her about manners. Probably raised in some muggle hovel where nobody could do so much as a hover charm. Pathetic.
Mary rolled her eyes as he replied to her thoughts on muggles, he must be dense. “Useless or not? You do not believe that they are useless then? Figures. If you cannot see that muggles are useless then all your arguments are null and void from this point forwards since you obviously lack the necessary brain cells to rationalize what is going on in your own head. And honestly, this generation may not have put us into hiding but they certainly keep us there. If they were any more accepting than their forefathers then we would not be in hiding, would we? Imagine, them being intolerant of us. If anything it is muggles who should be hiding.
“But I do not see why you would think I personally go out attacking muggles? Or why you think I would do anything for your benefit. Muggle baiting, though granted not a sport I condone, is not exactly my cup of tea, honestly. I just don’t see the point on wasting my energy on them though for those that actually enjoy it, more power to them honestly.” Mary explained in a very condescending tone beginning to wonder at this boy’s lack of rising to her arguments. Perhaps he really was going nuts. Or maybe just so weak he could not even stand up to a fourth year Slytherin girl. Probably a Hufflepuff she decided.
“Trusting people? Having them trust you? You are living in a dream world boy because in this life everyone is out for himself or herself and if you are letting people step over you hoping they will return the favour when it comes to your turn… well I guess you can figure out how that will work when you reach a critical point in your life and try to depend on someone. Though if they are as naïve as you seem to be perhaps there will be no problem. I mean people with nothing quickly give it away, right? Just like people who know little and quickly tell it.”

Tobias listened and the fun he was having before just seemed to have left at that moment, now she was just annoying him and he wished he was alone again even more then before. 'If you’re so high and mighty then your high level of decency should tell you it's rude to rub in the faces of people how great you think you are." He said not even bothering to look over, still just looking at the flames." And if you think you own Hogwarts or should maybe you should go check up on the house elves or something, as long as it’s far away from me." He said finally looking over at her when he finished.
He listened to her talk about him not having any brain cells and smirked. "It's not that I don't have any brain cells it's just that you don't have the heart to see past the fact that humans aren't worthless even if they can't do magic. Also intolerance is something that certain wizards, present company included, both share." He said now looking out a window to see stars and the light from the moon. "I should have gone outside." He thought as he looked out the window.
"Well I don't know, you just talk about muggles and muggleborns so much I just thought you might go out of your way to find some to curse.” He said in the cold tone looking at the fire closing his eyes. "I guess I was wrong, and I thought it would be an equal deal not just my benefit, you can go have fun and I don’t have to deal with them when I get home.” Finally opening his eyes and looking over at her waiting to see what she had to say next.
He smirked again then spoke. "You don't have to get stepped on by others to be trusted. Just be there when someone needs you, sooner or later if you keep thinking like that you'll be all alone in a tight situation wishing you had someone by your side to help you but even if what I say is my own little dream, I'd rather stay in my dream and not wake up." He looked over at her now with a straight face. "But what I'm saying is total non-sense to someone in your position. To set in there own ways to change."

Mary actually laughed out loud as the boy told her she was rude by pushing it in his face how much better she was and suggesting she go check up on the house elves. “But you see, manners only matter when you are addressing someone worth the effort. You, I fear, are hardly worth impressing and I only mentioned being an Evans so you would see how foolish you were for thinking I should oblige you and give you privacy in a public area which is much more mine than it will ever be yours. As for the house elves I think they can handle themselves they have been managing this castle for so long, and besides I don’t even take responsibility for the house elves at home I wouldn’t bother taking it on here. Well except mine of course but they too are capable of managing without my supervision.”
Mary made a condescending tutting noise as the boy spoke about heart. “Gryffindor, then? To be so foolish as to think of stupidity as “heart”. I expect you’re “noble” as well – don’t see what’s in front of you. So blinded by your so-called heart and conscious to notice that without those things dragging you down you would be much happier. And like I said – the problem is that they are not worthy of being intolerant. How can some creature of no worth be intolerant of their betters, I ask you.”
The boy spoke about trust and Mary actually made a sound of incredulity as he suggested she was set in her ways. “That you would rather stay in the dream land is quite obvious. But don’t worry; I won’t waste my time popping you bubble. Once again, you’re not worth the effort. As for being set in my ways, you have no clue what you are talking about. But that’s okay because what you don’t know could fill up this entire castle to the brim apparently, seeing as you don’t even understand common sense.” He may be stupid, and he may be annoying, but this boy was a good bit of fun. So foolish it was quite amusing how naive someone could be. She had figured the muggle lovers of he other houses didn’t quite see sense but she was astonished at just how backwards he could see the world even with recent events.
