Gary left the Hospital Wing feeling rather satisfied. He wanted to be a doctor. He had known that much ever since kindergarten. But after receiving his summoning to Hogwarts after turning 11 Gary had faced a big dilemma. At which job could he offer more help? Working as a muggle doctor with kids? Or becoming a mediwizard and heal the wizarding world? Both jobs had their bonuses. But it had been just this year when Gary had decided that he wanted to work in St.Mungo’s one day. He wasn’t even sure himself how he had came to that conclusion but as he was starting to build his life in the magical world already having most of his friends here it had became an almost natural decision over time. Especially now with things apparing to be rather serious between his mother and Meyghan’s father. Who knows what more surprises his life was yet to bring. But actually that wasn’t the reason for him feeling happy. He had finally gathered his wits and gone to talk to madam Pomfrey asking about different healing charms and spells as well as potions. The old nurse had been charmed that someone took so much interest in her work and had very willingly shared some of the information she knew with assurances to Gary that he coudl return anytime if he wanted to learn more. An opportunity Gary was most certainly not going to miss.
Carrying the books madam Pomfrey had borrowed to him as if they were priceless treasure which they were in a way Gary headed towards the student lounge after leaving two of the 3 book in his dormitory. He just had to read one of the books right now. Read and marvel at how much different the two world were after all. Wizards didn’t seem to understand the concepts of electricity and other rather common things for muggles, while muggles naturally had no use for magic. Even the healing techiniques varied accordingly. Holding the book close to him Gary entered the student lounge and looked around. There were people milling around the room as always with some people chatting, some people playing chess, some reading and two girls were putting together a puzzle. The general outlook was cheerful. Smiling Gary walked towards the couches where a bit younger girl was already sitting. „Is this seat open?“ Gary asked from the girl pointing to the other end of the couch she was sitting on. He had picked this place because it was near the table so he could lean his book on it and that way make sure the book wouldn’t get any loose pages or bent corners while he read it. Smiling to the girl Gary waited to see what her responce would be hoping that he could take a seat here. The girl looked much to sweet to be a Slytherin and only those should have any qualms about Gary as a muggleborn sitting next to them.

Latanya sighed. It had been quite a while since she had last written a letter to her parents back in England. She bit her lip and frowned, wondering how she should begin the letter. After a few crosses here and there, she was just about to give up when a boy older than her walked by. Smiling, she gave a short nod. "Yep, it sure is." she answered a bit too cheerfully.

The girl smiled and agreed with Gary’s plan to sit down, making Gary beam happily towards her. Maybe a bit too happily even, but Gary couldn’t swallow his exitement at having such treasured books in his hands. Especially since they were about the topic he loved and wanted to work on in the future. „Thanks, I appreciate it. Here I can lean the book on the table so I wouldn’t accidentally bend the pages in any way. I would hate to do that, especially if I want madam Pomfrey to ever talk to me again.“ Gary told the girl before he pulled off his sweater the collar of it getting stuck at his chin for a moment. Gary’s wailing around might have looked funny to someone standing near, but it was successful as Gary managed to pull the sweater off with no harm done to either him nor to the sweater leaving himself in an old gray T-shirt as the student lounge was warm. Moving accordingly to his words Gary took a seat after hanging his sweater on the armrest of the couch and leaving the book on different healing potions on the table. „My name is Gary. Gary Crane. I figured I would tell it to you just in case I got a little carried away at sometime and started annoying you. It’s a lot easier to yell at me to be quiet and not btohed you if you know my name. But I will try to control myself. Now that I have babbled into your ear for quite a while already and therefore most likely already succeeded in irritating you. Sorry. Hope I didn’t interrupt you at doing homework at the very least.“ Gary smiled brightly at the girl as in a way of saying sorry. ((Heya, I know you are new to this site, but could I perhaps ask you to try and write a bit longer posts? That would give me something to work on. Add details for example. Thoughts about Gary or how your character gets along with her parents or pretty much anything. It just takes a little bit of practice. )

((I'll try, but it's a bit hard since I don't know what to write about, and it will take me a long time))
Latanya watched in amusement as he pulled off his sweater with difficulty. She had to admit it did look quite funny, but she was not the person that would laugh at other people for things like this. She dropped her gaze to the piece of parchment on her lap and frowned again, wondering how to start the letter, while waiting patiently for him to pull off his sweater. She looked up when he introduced himself as Gary Crane. When he was saying about how he was sorry for annoying her and interrupting her doing homework, she couldn't take it anymore. The giggles that were trapped inside her body from the very beginning pushed their way out. "I'm Latanya Daemyn." she paused for a moment before continuing, "You don't have to be sorry. Annoying isn't a sin. And anyway, you're not annoying. I find you quite funny and humorous actually." She giggled. "And I wasn't doing homework." she frowned a small frown, and continued, "I'm just writing a letter to my parents. But we haven't posted to each other since...last year I think. And I was just wondering how to start the letter. Oh well.." she sighed and shook her head. "So what about you? I remember you said that if you bend the pages in any way, Madam Pomfrey wouldn't speak to you again. Why? Is this book hers?" she asked curiously, peering at the cover.

“Latand… Latn….” Gary grimaced and looked apologetically towards Latanya as he tried to pronounce her name. “I’m terribly sorry, could you repeat your name again? I didn’t really catch the pronunciation and I’d hate to just go around saying your name wrong. It’s an interesting name. Does it mean something in some language too? I have always been fond of names that mean something more as I always try to decide how much the meaning of the name portrays the owner of the name.” Gary smiled back happily at Latanya as she giggled. She was a cute girl. Maybe not a 1st year anymore as a general rule the very youngest Hogwarts students were shy and tried to stay in the background as much as possible. With only Slytherins being an exception to this rule perhaps as Slytherins seemed to breath arrogance rather than air sometimes. It was a wonder how they managed to tolerate themselves with their attitudes.
“Are you sure about that? Sometimes being irritating seems to be the biggest sin ever. But thank you for being so polite anyway. And I’m glad I wasn’t interrupting you. But really? You haven’t posted since last year? How have you survived? I get homesick on the second day here without a letter from my mom and sisters. I love Hogwarts and everything I can learn here and I love my friends here. But I can’t help but miss my family more than anything else. I always have so much to tell them and ask them that I always have to force myself to stop because of lack of parchment no matter how small I try to write.” Gary smiled as he thought back at his family. His father had died long ago when he was still just a child. But that made him appreciate his mother even more. And in a lot of ways his sisters were his best friends. Lindy had him wrapped around her little finger but Gary loved all his 3 sisters equally. They were all smart and funny and kind and just loveable in Gary’s opinion.
Noticing that Latanya was trying to see the cover of the book Gary turned the book and smiled to show that she was welcomed to discover the book. “Yes it is madam Pomfrey’s book. I want to be a Healer for St.Mungo’s one day however I wasn’t entirely sure about the job before. But recently I met the father of one of my house-mates and he suggest that I ask madam Pomfrey’s advice and her judgement upon whether or not the job would suit me. It was kind of hesitant to go to her in the first place but I’m glad I did in the end because she was very friendly and helpful. She loaned me two more books besides this one so I could read more about the job of a healer and then decide once and for all whether or not it’s the right job for me.”
((Don't worry about it. I'm sure you get the hang of it in no time. Your last post was much better already.))

"It's Latanya. And you don't have to be sorry," she said patiently. "A lot of people can't pronounce my name on their first try either." She smiled. "Yes, it is an interesting name. From what my mother told me, it means Fairy Queen or something similar to that. And I remember my father telling me that our surname has got a meaning too." she continued. "Daemyn. I remember he said it means faithful. Or was it loyal?" she asked herself, while trying to remember what her father had said.
"I don't think that being annoying is a big sin. How can you think that?" she asked in disbelief. "Anyone can be a bit annoying sometimes, even Slytherins. But it doesn't mean that they have to go to hell just because they were annoying. My mother told me once when I was little that everyone of us is unique. It's our personality that makes us 'us'. So you don't have to start blaming yourself just because you think you are annoying or anything, just accept it as your personality." she said with a shrug. "It's true, I haven't written to my mother since last year." she continued. "Even I wonder how on earth I survived. I guess it's because of the exams and classes and stuff, that I haven't really noticed it. My mother doesn't seem to mind either, so I guess it's ok." she said. She had wanted to say her father told her that her mother is always worrying about her, but thought better of it.
Latanya stared. "You want to be a healer? Wow, that's one hard job." she shuddered. "I wonder what it's like to be a healer. I mean, you have to see blood nearly everyday." she said, shaking her head. She hated blood. It was the last thing she wanted to see in the world. "So anyway, can I borrow your book for a moment? I swear I won't rip it or tore it or...uh...or damage it in anyway." she smiled.

Gary listened as Latanya repeated her name and was sure to pay extra attention to it. “Latanya. Latanya Daemyn.” Gary smiled having as far as he himself could understand pronounced both named correctly now after Latanya had repeated them for him. Gary listened curiously as Latanya explained her name thinking with a small smile at his own name. Gary held absolutely no other meaning but the small fact that his mother had liked Gary Grant. And Crane was just a last-name. Crane was a bird but none of his names had a very special meaning. Daemyn hadn’t really reminded Gary of loyalty. Rather had it sounded like a demon. But demons were loyal in their own way. Spells and wards forced them to be to. If such a thing as demons even existed. Gary wasn’t sure they did so he reminded himself to ask some professor about them one day. “Fairy queen? That sounds interesting. Do you also know in which language it means that? And do you really like fairies that much then to be named after them?”
Gary chuckled as he listened to Latanya speaking. “Even Slytherins? I’m afraid that I don’t hold Slytherins in that high regard to have the words even Slytherins prove something to me. Slytherins are people just like anyone else. They are just spoiled more I think. I can’t really tell for sure because I don’t have any friends in that house. Possibly couldn’t have as I’m a muggle-born and I think a Slytherin would rather crawl a mile through broken glass than socialize with someone who doesn’t know much about his ancestors beyond grandparents. But I agree with you on the unique part. It would not be nearly as nice to live if everyone was the same and had the same ideas and thoughts. I think that even sadness and joy and fears and feelings are personal for every person. I think that’s why love can’t actually be defined in a way that would work for everyone because everyone senses and understand love differently.”
Gary smiled and nodded pushing the book slightly towards Latanya. “Yes I want to be a healer. I think it might even be easier than being a muggle doctor. And a healer can work with potions and spells so I don’t have to see that much blood every day. And in the end if I managed to help someone then that would make all up for having to see a little bit of blood, would it not? And sure you can look through it. I’m not going to borrow it to you as it is not even my book, but you can look at it here.”
