Victoria sat in the student lounge, peering down at all the younger girls who seemed to be prancing and skipping around like fairies. She stroked her cheek as she had bruised it when she pathetically fell out of bed. She looked away and glanced back at her text book. Why she needed to know about a Wart toad's inside was beyond her but she still highlighted certain parts.
She shuffled her feet as the days were getting cold as Winter approached with full speed. Young boys and girls voices yelled to each other with completely pointless things to say. We don't all need to know what you are doing, you know, she thought cursing under her breath.

Fiona pulled on her blue jeans and black long sleeve t-shirt. She needed to do some homework and the Student Lounge would be perfect. There would be no annoying students there to bug her. Looking in the mirror she sighed as she touched the black pearl that hung around her neck. This behavior was normal and she knew that sooner or later she would be able to make them proud. Turning from the mirror she grabbed her bag and headed for the door. She stopped and turned back looking at her bed. A slight meow was heard and Fiona immediately ran to her wardrobe. She opened it quickly and found her cat. She had climbed in to fall asleep. "Dottie," Fiona said with a smile as she picked her cat up and petted her all the way to her bed. "Be good," she said. It was an amazing sight to see if anyone had seen it. This cat was the only thing Fiona was really nice to. The only thing that had ever seen her weakness. Fiona smiled at the cat as Dottie purred. "Stay," she said with a smile and headed out the door picking up her bag on the way out.
Fiona washed the smile off her face as she headed into the common room and then back out of it into the dungeon. She moved through the dark hallways until she reached the stairs leading to the rest of Hogwarts. Stepping out into the light she squinted her eyes. It was incredibly bright. She cursed the sun as she turned her back on it and moved up the stairs to the Student Lounge. She was moving slowly up the stairs and when she came to the landing she felt something run into. She looked down and saw what had to be a first year looking with fear up at her. "Watch it!" Fiona yelled down at the kid and he ran away down the stairs screaming. A bright smile fell across her face and Fiona continued up the corridor. She could see the Student Lounge ahead of her and she walked with a purpose toward it. Her head held high and her shoulders back. She knew that she was better than anyone and she wanted to represent that physically. Walking through the door she recognized another student sitting in there. It was a Slytherin, a year ahead of Fiona. She stopped at the girl's table and looked down at her. "Victoria, right? I'm Fiona," she said with a nod in the girls direction.

Victoria looked around and saw that the the young girls were still prancing around like pixies. "Watch it!" she heard some girl yell. Finally, she thought, someone told them to shut the hell up!
She glanced around to see the reactions on the younger student's faces and they seemed to be completely disgusted that someone had told them to be sensible and made their friend frightened. Victoria stood up as one of them raised there wands mockingly, "Hey, you," she said threateningly, "get lost!" As the girl walked off with her friends Victoria sat down finally satisfied with the amount of noise.
"Victoria, right? I'm Fiona," a girl said, it was Fiona O'Reily, only a year below her. She had seen her many times in the Slytheirn Common room but had never bothered to talk to her. "Hi, yeah I'm Victoria. Come. Sit down," she said indicating the seat opposite her.

Fiona had gotten the girls name right. She sat down when Victoria told her to. Looking around the Student Lounge the noise was more than she figured it would be. She noticed many students just messing around and not doing anything that would help them be more mature or smart. Shaking her head in disgust Fiona turned back to the table and pulled her bag into her lap. Opening it she pulled out her Potions book and her Transfiguration book. She had a couple essays due next week, but she figured she would get them done now and not have to worry about them anymore. Pulling out parchment, quill, and ink the noise in the room grew louder. "Shut Up!" Fiona exclaimed at the young students. The room fell silent and she turned back to the table. "Why can't they just shut up and let people study?" Fiona asked Victoria. "I'm so tired of people just being rude and annoying. Most of them aren't mature and aren't helping their case by being loud and obnoxious," Fiona sighed as she looked down at her blank piece of parchment. A throbbing in her head caused her to lay down her quill and rub her temples with her fingers. What she wouldn't give for complete silence right now.
Fiona's attention fell back to the past. She remembered the day her parents had died. When she was stuck she could hardly hear what was going on. That was a great silence. Fiona took a deep breath as she tried to calm her racing heart. She immediately felt the pearl around her neck, her mother's pearl. The room didn't seem to get any louder as she left the present, but she could hear the faint sound of laughing and talking. Her eyes had lost focus and her breathing had slowed. It was a few seconds before she left the past and returned to the present. She took a deep breath again as she looked around. The noise was loud and penetrating, but somehow she preferred that to the silence of her past. Turning her attention back to Victoria she sighed. "What are you working on?"

Victoria looked around as the first years still were being incredibly annoying. "What are you working on?" Fiona asked politely, trying to take their eyes away from the frustrating first years. Victoria raised her eyebrows and closed her book with a slam. Written on the front with large, silver letters were 'Potions written my anonymous'.
"It's quite interesting actually but the person you wrote it is just strange." she said, opening it again and flicking through it. She found the page she was last one and began to read again, the writer was explaining how antidotes worked. She quickly took out a piece of parchment, a quill and an ink bottle. She noted a couple of ingredients down and looked back at Fiona. "Oh sorry, what are you working on?" she asked as she noticed that Fiona was probably in the student lounge for a reason.

((Sorry it took so long. Been really busy.))
Fiona took a deep breath as the students became louder. At least it wasn't silent. From one extreme to the other, that's how Fiona thought. Of course, the silence that had enveloped her when her parents had died was bad enough. She wasn't about to let anything else come up like that. As much as she wanted it to be quiet right then, she didn't want it to be silent. If it was then she would never be able to survive it. She needed the noise. She needed it to be loud. The memories of her past were coming back full swing. It had been two months since her parents had died and it was getting harder and harder to except. Fiona shook her head of the thoughts as she heard Victoria ask her something.
Fiona looked back down at her books to try to remember what she was supposed to be working on. The leather bound books were stacked in front of her. She hadn't touched the since she had taken them out of her bag. She ran her hand over the silver stitched writing on her potions book cover. Looking back up at Victoria she shrugged. "Potions and Transfiguration. I have a couple essays due in their classes. I've been working on them for the last few days. I figured I'd see if they were of good quality. I would hate it if I got them back with only average marks. They're my best two classes. I prefer to see top marks in both classes," Fiona said as she pulled out her parchment that had her potions essay written on it. Looking it over quickly she decided it was good. Professor Snape would enjoy it. She just hoped he would like it enough to give it top marks, an O would be awesome. "Are you good at potions," Fiona asked as she looked back up at Victoria. Most Slytherins were decent at the subject, but some were better than others and Fiona was one of the better ones.

Victoria listen to Fiona with her head leaning on her book. She smiled at the sound of Potions. It was very surprising that Fiona did not know how Victoria was like in Slytherin. "Oh, I love Potions. It's the only lesson where the teacher really understands me. The rest of the teachers in this school are so awful. I have a theory about the blood type of Professor Hardy, she seems a bit weird to me!" Victoria gossiped. She turned her voice low as the librarian past scowling at the students. "God, I hate her!" she whispered, dipping her head behind her book.
As she left Victoria dropped her book and shook her hair out of the tight bun in was in. "Give me a second, I need to get a book," she said, picking herself up and turned on her heel. She fled into the a stack of books, she pressed her finger against the spines of the book and rolled her across them all. Suddenly she stopped at a book by her feet, it looked familiar, she glared down at the cover. The title was written in silver ink and without any hesitation or guilt she threw it into her bag.
She got up and received the book she was searching for. She ran back to Fiona, "Hey, sorry I was so long, got a bit caught up," she said, making her bottom comfortable on the hard, wooden seat. "What lesson have you got next?" she asked, tilting her head at her and smiling.

Fiona nodded in agreement as Victoria talked about Potions and Professor Snape. It was true he was the only professor who understood her and it was great being in his class listening to him talk about potions. It was her favorite class and always would be because of the friendly environment. "I agree about the other teachers. They are horrible. I can't stand being in their classes too long, save for MacGonagall, she's not too bad. She's pretty fair where most teachers aren't. Maybe it's because I like Transfiguration, my father was quite good at it when he was in school," Fiona said. A memory of her father showing her some transfiguration caught her attention. She had been a little girl, about 7. He had been transfiguring rocks into toys. She remembered it because it was so prominent when it came to happy memories. There weren't too many like that and so she held on to the ones that were great. "So what is your theory about Professor Hardy?" Fiona asked with excitement. She loved gossiping about some professors it always made her feel better going to their classes later. At that point in time the librarian walked by and Fiona rolled her eyes and laughed quietly at Victoria's comment. "She is quite dreadful," Fiona said with a smile. She thought about all the times she had gotten into trouble with her.
After a few minutes of day dreaming Victoria said something about needing a book and she up over at the book shelfs. Fiona turned back to her essay and began to write down some of the plant names. "Gillyweed, Tibetan Turnip, Mandr..." Fiona was saying quietly to herself as she wrote them down. She quickly stopped when Victoria returned to the table. "Don't worry about it. I know how it feels to get distracted by things," Fiona said as she eyed the lounge. It was still pretty loud, but she didn't mind it so much anymore. "I have Charms next. Not a bad class, but I don't like Flitwick at all. He's so boring and not to mention he's short and I just can't see him if he isn't standing on those books of his that are piled so high. I think he does that for a reason, instead of them 'supposedly' being there because he reads them. Oh, well," Fiona said with a laugh as she thought about it more.

Victoria glared around the room carefully, checking that no one was looking at her. She hated the idea that she may get in trouble for taking the book but she kept her mouth shut. She took out the book and hid the cover from the rest of the library by keeping it under her History of Magic book. “Oh, Charms, yeah, I just had Charms. He is a little dwarf isn’t he? I wonder why Dumbledore kept him in; also he’s such a low talker. Half the time I can’t understand what he’s saying.” She mumbled remembering the time he mentioned her late homework in front of the whole class. “By the way, what I said about Professor Hardy, my Father said that she might be muggle-born. I think that’s what he said,” she said, questioning herself about her eavesdropping abilities. “Anyway, I wouldn’t be surprised at all, she’s always on her own like a loner,” she added, pointi9ng her finger at Fiona.
Victoria pushed her History of Magic book out of the way and flicked through the pages quickly. It looked rather like the books Professor Snape had on his desk but it definitely wasn’t his as he was stupid enough to leave it around the library. She opened it at the contents, in beautiful gold letters were the words “Dark Arts”, Victoria was surprised at the simplicity of the title and opened it at the beginning. Her eyes opened wide and sparkled magnificently. Inside were thousands of potions and spells she had never even dreamed of. For every little cruel thought in her head there was a spell or potion that matched her need. She flicked to the other end of the book were thousands of spells and potions lay describing ways to indulge yourself in great glory. She smiled and quickly shut the book. ”Fiona, look at this would you?” she asked, passing the book over to her with her eyes on the people around them.

Fiona turned back to her homework and started writing some more of her Herbology essay. She didn't look up at Victoria until she said something. Fiona laughed quietly at what Victoria said about Professor Flitwick. Fiona understood completely. Fiona listened with interest as Victoria said that Professor Hardy was a mudblood. That certainly explained a lot. "That explains so much about that woman. A mudblood, how horrible that they're teaching us. No wonder people don't learn in that class," Fiona said with arrogance as she looked back at her Herbology book. Fiona skimmed through her book as she continued to find the main points of the essay and jot them down on the parchment. She stuck her quill in her ink and started writing without stopping, her thoughts kept forming. She continued to write until Victoria interrupted her.
Fiona looked up and then back down as she finished her thought. Looking back up at Victoria. "What?" Fiona asked as a book was slid toward her. Fiona looked at the cover and smiled. She had seen this book before. She actually thought it was one that her father had owned. She was pretty sure it was the right book. She opened it and started flipping through it. She stopped on a page with a spell that show the victim getting their brain sucked out of their head through their nose. Wizards had gotten the idea from Egypt and the priests that had pulled the brain out of the head through the nose when they were being mummified. Fiona started skimming through the spell. It would be great to use on her greatest enemies. The pain was supposed to be incredible. Fiona looked back up at Victoria as she quickly glanced around them. "Where did you get this and why did you bring it to the Student Lounge?" Fiona asked quickly as she slid the book back to Victoria.

((Sorry it's so short))
Victoria stared carefully at Fiona, why was she questioning her? Was it her book but with a effortless smile she responded, “I found behind that bookcase, why?” she asked, calming her voice to a murmur. Victoria couldn’t stand the stimulation of her book and seized it back. She gazed suspiciously in to Fiona’s eyes to see if she was actually apprehensive. She couldn’t tell what she was thinking but still Victoria kept her whole virtuousness look. She sniggered as she brushed through it again and noticed many of the spells with anguish, torment and suffering written all over them. She began to giggle. It was a high, irrepressible giggle which was an extreme of her typical one. She glanced around and confirmed if anybody’s eyes were on her but most of them had left as she stopped her giggling. She hastily plunged the book into her bag and clipped it shut. “That book might just get Slytherin the Quidditch Cup!” she said with absolute malevolence in her voice.

Fiona looked back at the bookcase Victoria was alluding to. She couldn't figure out what that kind of book would just be out in the middle of the Student Lounge. It wasn't like there were many suspects who could have dropped it. The real problem was who would be stupid enough to leave a Dark Arts book out in the middle of the Student Lounge. Fiona shook her head. Some people were so ignorant. Honestly, the idiocy that person must have. Who would just leave it? Not to mention who would even take it out of their dorm room or out of their homes to take to school, where any muggle loving professor could find it? "Whoever it belonged to is obviously an idiot. Think about it. Who would be stupid enough to leave it out where anyone could find it?" Fiona asked Victoria. It was bad news. It could be a trap to find out who was all interested in the Dark Arts. Maybe it was set up by that muggle loving idiot Dumbledore. Fiona didn't want to touch the book anymore. If it was a trap she was definitely not going to get caught. Within seconds, Victoria had already seized the book. She obviously didn't like the way Fiona was responding to it.
Fiona shook her head. She didn't think it was wise for Victoria to pocket the book. There was something fishy about it. She shook her head of the thought. She didn't care if Victoria got in trouble as long as Fiona was brought down with her. She had her own things to worry about and that book was not on the top of her list. She stacked her books and parchment together. Placing them back into her book bag she threw the rest of the items she had taken out back in as well. "I got to get this done and it's way too loud in here to do so. I'll talk with you later Victoria," Fiona said as she stood and slung her bag over her shoulder. She nodded good-bye to Victoria and headed out of the Student Lounge and back down to the dungeons to work in the common room, at least that might be quieter.
