Mr. McCartney,

It has come to my attention that you own a barn that produces the best of the best horses. You enter people in many competitions and train outsiders too, correct? I heard that you can teach even the small kids to become champs at some sort of competition. That is why I'm writing you today in my room.

My name is William Charles Senetta and I'm looking for a trainer to help me and my horse bond and work together. I know that you do that. I was wondering if you could train me? I'm not sure what I wish to become yet but when I have a positive idea then I'll send you a letter to tell you so. Could you tell me what you do train though? I know I'm slightly older then most you take into consideration but please make an exception. I can make you proud, I'm positive if you just give me the chance to. I have my own horse that I will bring along. He is very young and a stallion, which I hope is fine with you. He will not be gelded! If that is what you need to do then I will pick a different horse. I'm sure you understand.

As for the horse in question he is an Arabian stallion. Twelve years of age. I know, very young. He is totally black with no markings at all. He is a wonderful horse and I'm sure you'll think the same once you see him. His name is Lucifer. Please don't take that against him. It's just a name. As he is young he will be able to learn quicker, I think. I can already ride him bare-back. I have never ridden in saddle before but I'm sure it's not too hard. I will make process if you take me in. As for me I'm sixteen and lean and tall. I'm not sure of my exact height or weight anymore.

Mr. William Senetta,

I laughed when I first read your letter. You remind me of someone who was about your age. All he wanted was a chance to prove himself. When I allowed it he did wonderfully until....Well, I really have no wish to continue on the subject of that student of mine. Please, excuse the handwriting; I dropped out of school when I was twelve to work with horses. And, see where it got me? I'm a millionaire just because of horses. Let it be a lesson to you that school isn't everything. I learned that quickly even though it didn't go well with my parents at first.

Now, you want a chance, do you? I have thought about it hard and long and decided that yes, you may have a chance. But if you aren't up to scratch, no more. You were right about me not training kids as old as you; they are too conscious about what can happen while astride a horse and that can lead to near disaster. That can happen to you but if you want to take the risk...it's really up to you. Horses are dangerous though. Remember that. I don't want you afraid or nothin' but it's just the way things are. They are to be respected not feared, however.

You get your mind made up soon 'cause I really need to know. You see, I have to prepare for you before you arrive. It's actually quite hard to get with someone and train them. Mostly if their horse doesn't cooperate. That leads to your horse, don't it? I really don't give a care what his name is, just as long as he's willing to work, understand? I really don't want to be whippin' a horse just 'cause their bad. You think long and hard on your choice so that don't happen. You do need permission from you guardian, and excuse me, but frankly I usually get letters from them and not from the rider hisself. I'm sure you get it.

Anyways, my barn is rather full so you have to be good to get to the top. Not good, excellent. If you aren't sure what you want to do, perhaps you should name me some of it's traits. The horses'. The horse is everything. You just gotta control him and then everything's good. It doesn't matter what your height or weight is. I don't care much unless you want to become a jockey of some sort and I barely train them.

You got my answer. The horse sounds good. Arabians tend to be harder to train but I welcome the challenge. When I first read this my eyes musta brightened with glee. You see, I'm hardly gettin' challenges anymore. I old boy and a young Arabian stallion...Well, that's somethin' new. My advice to you is to ride that horse good and get use to the saddle and bridle. You'll need it. Maybe the beach would be a nice place to do that? I wouldn't know but that's the place I recommend.

Please, do not worry about your handwriting. To me, it looked simply wonderful on the parchment. Of course, that might be because I saw what I wanted to see. I will train well and I can prove myself and mostly, Luce. He's somewhat of an out-cast but I really do wish to prove them wrong on this. I can start training as soon as possible. Lucifer is ready and so am I. I haven't gotten that guardian signature yet, but I will get it sometime soon, that I can promise.

As for describing Lucifer's traits, that's simple. He has a thirst to win and any horse that gets in his way will see that. He's fast and sound and willing. Is that enough? The first one I listed is the most important. Also, this is very important too; He does what he wants. He won't let me control him but he does listen to me, sometimes. He is good though and I can get what I want out of him. I know he wants this too. So he will listen. I must tell you though, that I will not allow you to whip my horse. If you do so, then I will most certainly resign us from your list and go be a champion somewhere else. I did go to the beach and I liked it there, but I really don't need any practice. I can do anything you want me to. I'm a natural.

Please give me the dates of the practice session I can have. Also, please tell me what you think Luce would be good as. I would like to know too, once you make your mind up. I will be going to school shortly, so I could come on the weekends, maybe, and on Christmas break and such.
