Dear Cathy,
How are things going for you back at school? I'm so sorry to hear about the deaths of your fellow students. How horrible it must be for a girl your age to experience death. Of course, you're a very unusual girl, so I expect that you can handle it. Have you been studying hard? I really am hoping to see those wonderful grades from you this year! Hopefully, they will make up for Giselle's dismissal ones. How is she faring these days? Are the toilets still not as clean as they should be at Hogwarts? That was something she often complains about, as I'm sure you know. I really miss you Cathy. Your smile, your eyes, your presence. Daphne is always off on her social groups and meetings, leaving me alone in our house. I'm starting to feel like I'm losing her, and I dearly hope I'm not, since I love her so. But - this brings up another topic I wish to speak to you about.
You know, of course, that we, the Dumas family, are one of the greater supporters of You-Know-Who. We give them everything to help them with their doings, but we never do any of the dirty work. I know this makes you think less of me, as a supporter of the man that killed off you friends. But, it wasn't me that wanted to support them. It was Daphne who insisted on giving them need. Her father used to be a Death Eater, but he died and Daphne wants to help the others. I don't know why she wants to help them after what happened to her father, who was killed by one of the Death Eaters. She was an only child, and when she married me, she wanted a boy so he could grow up like her father, to become a great wizard. Did you know how sickening that was for me to hear her plans for our children? Of course, we never had any but still...it was awful for me. I had nightmares and many drinks on occasion when she brought it up in front of her friends. Please don't mention this to her, Cathy. She wouldn't like it if I told you this. She has plans for Giselle that she won't even tell me about.
Do you understand now? It is so important for you to understand this, for I know it hurts every time you think of us as the wrong sort. I'm not, for one, although I pretend to be. I can't help it. If I want my wife to stick to my side, she wants me to act as if I'm a fan of the same people she is. Please, Cathy, please understand me. I know you've been robbed of pure innocence a long time ago, but please don't become even more quiet. You hate the world, I know this, and the terror it bestows upon people. But - we keep that from happening to ourselves. I'm protecting the family in a way that is easiest.
I really do look forward to hearing how your year is going. Have you seen your old friends and perhaps made new ones? How are your grades? Remember, always, that I love you.
Hugs,
Daddy
