Journals and Jewelry ((Katherine and Rosaliz))

Mandi walked along the streets of Hogsmeade. She had been reading in the Three Broomsticks again while she drank her Butterbeer. It had become a ritual to start there and then work her way to Catalina's Cubby. She had enjoyed reading up on her Charms book. She was already studying for her O.W.L.s and she was hoping to get a lot of them.

Mandi paused at a few windows before she reached her destination. Pushing open the familiar door Mandi smiled brightly. How she had come to love this store. She had actually kept a hold of some of her money. She usually spent all of it before she made it to Catalina's store. Today however she had kept a couple of galleons and some sickles. She smiled at the people she passed as she made her way straight to the journals and notebooks. She loved to write and when she first saw the journals and notebooks she had really wanted one. She was hoping that she had enough money this time to buy one.

Before Mandi reached the journals though she got sidetracked by the jewelry. She looked carefully at the mood rings and smiled. She didn't think she'd ever need one because she was always happy. She never lost her temper or spoke out in rage. 'Slow to anger' was her motto. She smiled brightly as she thought about her motto. It was kind of lame but it helped her when her patiences were wearing thin.

Mandi noticed a girl standing on the other side of the jewelry rack and she immediately walked to her. "Hi!" Mandi exclaimed. She recognized the girl and she wanted to be friendly. She always wanted to be friendly and Mandi knew that someday it would help her.

Katherine walked around the busy shops of Hogsmeade. She'd already visited Zonko's to find that they didn't have many new items. All of the shops had lost a bit of their cheer since the attacks at Hogwarts. It was hard to believe that it truly happened. Katherine noticed that nobody seemed to be shopping alone much anymore. People thought it wasn't safe, but Katherine didn't care. She wasn't going to live in fear.

One of the only shops that still seemed welcoming was Catalina's Cubby. I think Robert buses tables here, Katherine thought to herself. She walked inside to see what they sold at the Cubby. Everything looked niece, but for now, Katherine was hungry. She ordered a deli sandwich and some cider. After finishing the last bite of her sandwich, she looked around to see what she could buy. They had some of everything. What Katherine wanted was a mini-wireless music player. She dearly missed her MP3 Player and this seemed to be perfect. She peered at the price tag. It was pretty pricey, so she'd wait until the end of her trip to buy it.

There was some pretty jewelry. Katherine really didn't like lots of necklaces. She was just fine with her yellow Muggle LiveStrong wristband. The proceeds went to the LiveStrong Foundation. Everything seemed to be very girlie. There were a couple of mood rings. They were cheap too. She'd still have enough to buy her music player. Katherine was doing the math to find out how much money she'd have once she bought all this when another girl from her year at Hogwarts said, "Hi!"

"Hello," Katherine said. "Are you going to buy anything?" Katherine asked, trying to start a conversation.

Mandi looked at the girl as she asked Mandi if she was going to buy anything. "Yeah, I'm looking at the journals and notebooks that are for sale. The notebooks allow three feet of parchment per page. It's so cool. And the journals will recognize me and only me so no one will go peeking at what it says. It's really cool!" Mandi smiled as she set back down a mood ring she had picked up.

"What are you looking at buying?" Mandi asked. "Oh, my name is Mandi Aspden by the way. What's yours?" Mandi looked intently at the girl while she tried to figure out what house she had seen her in. They were in the same year, Mandi knew that for sure, she just wasn't sure what the exact house the girl was in. Mandi narrowed down the search to either Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw, but still couldn't figure it out as she waited for the girl to respond.

Rosaliz walked in Catalina’s cubby. She liked this store as if it was opened with opening arm employees. She smiled and continued her way looking around. She walked and spotted the Jewelry. She loved it the most. She was wondering if they sold any in dark colors. She spotted the mood rings. ‘I wouldn’t buy this; I know my temper all the time. Only somebody stupid would buy one. They would probably be so out minded to not even know how they felt.’ She thought throwing the ring back onto the shelf, with out care. She then spotted Mandi. A very generous Gryffindor from her own house. 'Nothing else to do but, go get some company’ she thought. She walked towards Mandi and interrupted her from, talking to this other girl that looked about her age. “Hi, Mandi!” she said “and you are?” asking the other girl who was speaking to Mandi with a not so polite-full tone.

Katherine smiled. She could tell that Mandi would become one of her friends. They were the same age and shared a couple of classes. Katherine was always looking for more friends. "Yeah, I was going to buy my cousin Robert a notebook for Christmas. He's an aspiring author." Katherine loved to shop for other people even more than shopping for herself.

"My name's Katherine Knight," Katherine said with a bit of pride. She'd always thought that the last name, Knight, was a cool one." Katherine picked up a mood ring next to the one that Mandi put down and slipped it over her ring finger. It instantly turned a brilliant shade of blue. "I think these mood rings are kinda cool and-" But Katherine was interrupted before she could tell Mandi the other item she had her eye on by some girl she'd never seen before. She could tell that she, unlike Mandi, didn't like this person at all already. "My name's Katherine Knight," she repeated while trying to keep her voice from sounding mean.

Mandi smiled at Katherine's last name. Knight was such a cool name. Mandi watched as Katherine picked up one of the mood rings. It turned blue instantly and Mandi smiled brightly. "Looks like your happy," she grinned.

Katherine was about to say something when she was interrupted and Mandi turned. It was Rosaliz. "Hi! Rosaliz this Katherine, Kathrine this is Rosaliz. Rosaliz is in Gryffindor with me," Mandi smiled as she introduced the two girls. She could tell by the looks they were giving each other that they weren't too interested in being friends with each other. Mandi hoped that would pass and they would all become friends. She hated it when people fought in front of her and so she tried very hard to lighten the mood.

"Want to get something to drink?" Mandi asked as she looked toward the cafe. She knew they made some good milkshakes and they had Butterbeer, which was her favorite drink. The tension between the two girls seemed impenetrable, but Mandi tried her hardest to get the two girls to at least smile at the other one. "You know I like the mood rings. I just wouldn't buy one because I always know what mood I'm in. I'm a little too happy for my own good," Mandi laughed at herself she hoped it would break the tension.

Katherine let out a soft giggle. She was happy. It wasn't often that you find someone as nice as Mandi. Katherine took a deep breath before saying to Rosaliz, "Hi. I'm in Hufflepuff." Katherine doubted that they'd become friends like Mandi and herself, but she didn't want to be rude. Katherine heard Mandi ask if they wanted to get something to drink?. "That sounds good." Katherine turned to Rosaliz, "Would you like to head on over to the cafe and get a milkshake or something?"

Katherine listened to Mandi. "I think they're neat because they change colors when you change emotions. If only they mode clothes like that." Katherine laughed. "Make sure to avoid someone wearing a red dress." Katherine didn't know whether Rosazliz was interested in what they were talking about so Katherine just said with a smile, "You can never be too happy."

Rosaliz looked at Mandi and Katherine. She had a feeling that Katherine didn’t like her much and she didn’t really care. “Sounds great!” Rosaliz said being sarcastic.
She knew that Mandi wanted to have just time alone with Katherine. “Well as a matter of fact, I changed my mind. You girls go ahead. I shouldn’t start any trouble” with an unsatisfying look on her face. “See you latter, I got to have some shopping to do,” she said walking away not wanting to do anything with milkshakes.

Katherine swore to herself that that little girl should have been in Slytherin. How rude. Katherine asked Mandi, "Is she always like that?" She took a deep breath and tried to forget about Rosaliz. Then she looked over at the cafe. "I'll order us some smoothies. What kind do you want?" Katherine always got chocolate, but today she decided to try strawberry. "I'll pay for 'em both. My treat." Though Katherine wanted Mandi to be her friend, she wasn't into buying friends. She just wanted to be nice.

Katherine asked the girl at the counter for the two smoothies, paid her and then sat down at one of the tables.

Mandi watched as Rosaliz walked away. Her smile had faded and she felt bad. She had tried to make Rosaliz feel welcome, but things didn't always work out so well. "No, she's not always like that. I think she's just got some problems she's trying to work through," Mandi sighed as she turned back to Katherine.

Mandi forced a smile as she looked at the cafe. She debated on the type of smoothie she wanted and settled on Strawberry. "Strawberry, you can never go wrong with it," Mandi laughed as she followed Katherine. She didn't normally like people buying things for her, but Katherine didn't seem like she was the kind of person to be persuaded.

Mandi followed Katherine to a table and accepted her drink. "Thanks. So are you worried about O.W.L.s? I can't stop thinking about them. I know they're not for almost a year, but I've been studying like mad recently. I've been rereading all my old school books as well as getting new advanced ones. I think I'll do all right, if I can continue to study," Mandi smiled making conversation. She took a drink of her smoothie and smiled. Catalina's always had some of the best smoothies. She waited for Katherine to reply before she continued.
