Kadan pulled his jacket tightly to his chest and clutched the book that was hidden within. He had his mind on one thing, Fiona. She was supposed to meet him at the Hog's Head where they could sit and discuss his mother's past. He had been looking forward to this meeting ever since he left her in the hospital where the secrets of his past started to slowly be revealed. Unsure though that any were completely true besides the fact that his mother was a Death Eater, Kadan was full of questions.
Walking in the door, he looked around but didn't see Fiona. "Two butter-beers," he said to the clerk behind the counter. After paying for the drinks, he took them and sat at a table in a secluded corner of the room, the book still firmly in his possession the entire time.
Since his visit to the hospital, he hadn't opened the book. He wanted to many times, but in a sense he was afraid of what he would find. The only thing he knew it contained was little information about other people who he had known to be Death Eaters. Fiona's father was one of the people he had read about. Other than that knowledge, Kadan didn't take the time to read what else was in the book, however from flipping through it, he saw that there was much written in the scribbled handwriting that he assumed to be his mother's.
He taped his fingers on the table anxiously. Where is she, he thought. Fiona still had plenty of time before she would be late, but Kadan was so apprehensive that he glanced at the clock every few seconds. Just then, the bell on the door rang and somebody entered. He looked up to see if it was Fiona.

Fiona grabbed the old journal that was hidden underneath a floor board in her room at her uncle's manor. She knew her uncle had been trying to get a hold of everything that Fiona had in her possession, but she knew that he would never look for his brother-in-laws journal in her room. Fiona caressed the black leather bound book in her hands as she quickly took a last look in the mirror. She was concerned about her appearance. She hadn't seen Kadan since he visited her in the hospital wing and she had looked horrible then. She was determined to make a better impression this time.
Fiona was wearing dark blue jeans and a black long sleeve silk shirt. Without thinking she felt the black pearl that hung around her neck. She had yet to take it off and she didn't think she ever would. Fiona's long red hair had been pulled up into a half bun. She was tired of her hair and was thinking about chopping it off. Taking one last fleeting glance into the mirror, Fiona hurried out the door of her room. Down to the fire place she went and soon she had pulled out a handful of Floo Powder and was gone.
Stepping into the streets of Hogsmeade, Fiona quickly hurried to the Hogs Head. She was supposed to meet Kadan there and she didn't want to be late. It was an important appointment and she knew that Kadan had lots of questions about his mother.
Fiona stepped through the door and rolled her eyes at the bell. She hated the sound, but her attention quickly turned back to the pub. Looking around she noticed Kadan in a back corner. She quickly walked to the table and sat down. "I'm not late am I?" Fiona asked. She was surprised by the fact that he was there already. She was usually the first to show anywhere and she didn't want him to be angry if she was late.

Kadan smiled, delighted that Fiona had finally made it. She was even a few minutes early. "No no, you are fine," he responded. "I'm just a little a-anxious," he stuttered, realizing that he was about to learn a lot of things about his deceased mother. "Well, here is a butterbeer for you," he said, handing Fiona the warm drink. "Where should we begin?" he asked.
Kadan sat and slowly spun the book he was holding on the table. He played with it, for he was half afraid to open it. Inside, he knew there were secrets- dark secrets that his mother kept from his father and everybody else for that matter. He looked to Fiona for some consolation. "Well we know she was a Death Eater, and that's about it," he said with a shrug.
He couldn't take it any longer. Instantly, he pushed the book across the table, almost knocking over the butterbeers. "You do it!" he exclaimed. "I just c-can't." His hands trembled as he pulled them back. It was finally time to overcome his fear and discover the mysteries that the book held.

Fiona looked at Kadan with empathy. She knew it had to be hard for him. To grow up not knowing the truth about his mum. Fiona had always known about her father and his Death Eater activity. It was half of the reason why she was who she is. She had always had pride for her father and his work. She knew that it was important and she wanted to follow his footsteps. She only wished he was still alive right now. Maybe he would be able to tell Kadan more about his mum.
Fiona hestitantly took the book and opened it. There were so many pages filled with writing and Fiona knew they would never get through the whole thing that night. She didn't care though. She wanted to help him and this was the only way she knew how. "Where do you want to being? At the beginning or the middle or maybe toward the end?" Fiona asked. She figured he wanted to start at the beginning, but she felt that it would be better to ask him rather than just beginning. Besides, it was his mum. She picked up her Butterbeer and took a drink while she waited for his answer.

Kadan's heart would not stop pounding in his chest. He was so nervous, anxious, excited, and scared all at once. He had never felt such a mix of emotions. He watched as Fiona flipped through the many pages that were full of writing. Then, she asked him where they should start.
"Umm..." Kadan hesitated. "How about we start... wait," he stopped. "Before we do this, I have to ask you something... Why are you doing this? Like why are you so willing to help me? I've done nothing for you, and you really aren't gaining anything from this. And not to be rude, but you seem like the type who is just concerned about your personal gain," he blurted. Kadan blushed, and realized it probably wasn't too smart to ask questions and accuse Fiona of being self-centered.
Kadan waited for Fiona to answer and couldn't help but think she was probably a little upset at what he said. He didn't know why he even asked, and he figured he should have just taken the help, but he was curious to know why she was so willing to aid him.

Fiona took a deep breath before she answered Kadan's question. It was true. She only cared about herself and she hated helping others especially with they weren't purebloods. She had done so many things for her own personal gain and she liked that. She had always told herself that she would never help others, especially those who didn't deserve it. Fiona looked at Kadan thoughtfully before answering. She wasn't sure if he'd understand her position or not. "Kadan. I won't lie to you. I do only care about myself. I hate helping others especially those who aren't like me. To tell you the truth Kadan. I can gain just as much from this as you can. My da used to talk about your mum a lot. I always wondered if he loved her more than my mum. It would be interesting to see how your mum thought about my da. Besides, I have a hard time believing that your mum fell in love with a muggle. I'd like to see what she did for the Dark Lord that made her become a Death Eater. I need all the help I can get," Fiona said. She held back the most important reason why she wanted to help him. She didn't feel it was the time or the place to be discussing such an important topic.
Fiona looked at the journal in her hands and then looked back up at Kadan. She knew she sounded kind of self-centered, but she was and she wouldn't deny it not when she had come so close to finding out everything she could about the woman her da had talked so highly of. She knew that if she could study this journal than maybe she would be able to become a Death Eater one day. Fiona sighed as she took a drink of her Butterbeer. "So where do you want to start?" Fiona asked again. She was eager to begin, but she wanted to see what Kadan had to say.

Kadan wasn't surprised by Fiona's answer. He had expected that there was a reason deep down as to why she was willing to help. He didn't care though, because he knew that she was probably full of information that would help him to find out more about his mother.
"That's okay," he said casually. "I figured you probably had your reasons. "So anyways, back to the book," he added as his heart returned to its higher than normal speed. "Just start in the beginning." He watched as Fiona opened the book. He couldn't explain how he felt. He almost didn't even care any more because he had prolonged this moment for so long. Crossing his arms and putting his head down, Kadan just listened, waiting for any information that Fiona found necessary to share.

Fiona opened the book as Kadan allowed her to continue with the search into his mothers past. Fiona skimmed the first page. "Not much about what was going on. It just says she was starting her work as a Death Eater," Fiona said quietly as she glanced up at Kadan. She flipped the page and read through it. Interesting bits of information popped out on this page and Fiona felt the need to share what it said. "I've been working with the Dark Lord this last few days. He seems quite proud of my work. He's putting me with Sean O'Reilly, we're in charge of finding Aurors. Finding and killing their whole families," Fiona read the words quietly as she saw her fathers name. They were together since the beginning. They knew each other long before her da had said. The date was clear. It had been in the late 60s. Her father had said they met in the early 80s. "I don't understand this, Kadan. My da said that he hadn't met your mum until about 17 years ago. Yet according to the date on this page, they met in the late 60s, early 70s. Why would my da lie about something like that?" Fiona asked. She didn't think Kadan would know the answer, but she still asked him. She wanted to know what was going on and it didn't seem like she knew as much about her father as she had thought. It seemed like he had been lying to her and this was something very important. Something that could bring much into perspective. Fiona looked up at Kadan as she waited for his answer. She didn't know what it was so important to her, but she needed to know.
