Maryn layed on her bed thinking. She hated being cooped up in London. After the attack on Diagon Alley, her parents demanded that she stay around the house. They were always scared for her safety. When she wasn't scared at all. She felt fine walking alone and going where she pleased. She couldn't help thinking about the scared wizards and witches in the world. "I can't be like them." She thought. And with that, she threw on her red tank top, jeans, and flipflops and ran out the door. Her parents were too busy talking about the Diagon Alley attack in the kitchen to notice when she ran to the fireplace, dropped her floo powder, and whispered "Hogsmead Village." When Maryn arrived in Hogsmead she couldn't help but notice the groups of scared looking people walking swiftly through the shops. She merely walked alone as slow as she could. She looked throughly at every window like the cocky girl she was. But as she stood alone, she noticed the groups of girls giggling as they moved. She wished badly she had friends like that, but she didn't. Maryn might not be afraid of attacks, but she was afraid of people. SO she decided to sit on a bench alone.

Kadan watched out the window at the houses as they passed by. He was riding with his dad, who was on his way to work. Needing school supplies for the new year, Kadan had to make a trip to Hogsmade since Diagon Alley had been destroyed. The closest fireplace where Kadan could use the floo network was at his grandparents house. They drove up to a large white cottage and Kadan could see his grandmother waiting at the door. "Thanks for the ride dad," he shouted, as he got out of the car and walked briskly to meet his grandmother.
It had been a while since he had seen her but she still looked the same. Her white hair was pulled tightly into a bun and her blue eyes sparkled in the sunlight. She gave him a big hug, and he was glad to see her too. "I have a bagged lunch ready for you," she said sweetly to Kadan. "It has all your favorites," she smiled. "You had better head inside and take off soon before it gets too busy. With Diagon Alley in shambles, more people will be flocking to Hogsmade," she explained. Kadan was somewhat disappointed at the fact that he had to leave so soon. He wanted some time to talk to his grandmother about some things. Nonetheless, he went inside and gathered his things for Hogsmade.
"I'm ready Gran," he said, and watched as she retrieved the floo powder from an ornamented vase.
"Here you are sweetie," she said as she gave him a little of the powder. "Now you know how to do it?" she asked.
"Yeah, yeah," he replied a little agitated. "I know how to do it," he smiled because he realized she was just a concerned grandparent. "See you later," he said as he tossed the powder into the fire and stated clearly, "Hogsmade."
He spun into a green surrounding and then arrived in a rather dirty fireplace in Hogsmade. He got up and dusted off his yellow shirt and jeans. Throwing his bag over his shoulder, he walked out of the building into the afternoon sun. He looked around and didn't think the village was as busy as he expected.
After walking for a little he spotted another Hogwarts student sitting alone on a bench. He recognized her as a Gryffindor from his year. Figuring it would be best for both of them if they weren't alone after the recent attack on Diagon Alley, he approached her. "Hi," he said cheerfully. "Recognize me?" he asked, not knowing if she would or not. "You are a third year Gryffindor... right?" he questioned, hoping his memory served him correctly. "You're Mary, aren't you?" He knew it was something close to that.

Maryn was sitting on a bench alone looking as people passed. The streets were getting filled up with more people. "Probably school shopping." She thought. She started thinking about her return to Hogwarts coming soon when a boy approached her. "Why is he coming over here." She thought. Well, it didn't matter to her. She was up for the company. After he said hello and asked her if she reconized him. Thinking for a moment she suddenly remebered. "Hi, Your name's Kadan, right? We had charms together last year. You're a third year Ravenclaw, i think." he asked her if she was a third year Gryffindor and if her name was Mary. "Yea, Gryffindor. My name is Maryn. So, what brings you to Hogsmead." She asked. "I noticed you're all alone too. I thought I was the only one brave enough to tough it out alone. The only setback is it gets lonely being alone alot." She stated. She blushed a little bit upon hearing what she just said. She had never told anyone that she was alone alot or that it wasn't that great.

"Yeah," Kadan said, responding to her questioning his name, year, and house. "Oh, sorry, Maryn," he corrected himself. "Well," he explained, "I just came to Hogsmade to pick up some last minute things before school starts again. Since the attack on Diagon Alley occurred, I figured this is the next best place to get what I need." He listened as she explained that she was often alone and hoped that she would enjoy his company. "I know what you mean," he said in a 'been there, done that' kind of look. "It wasn't until recently that I started making friends again." He though back to when he had nobody and spent all of his time alone. "Well maybe we could hang out then," he suggested. "After the attack, nobody is safe." He waited to see if Maryn would take him up on his offer.

Maryn listened as he answered her question. He said he was indeed a third year Ravenclaw. He told her that he was getting some school supplies. He then said he just recently that he made friends. She was glad she wasn't the only one who had felt alone. He asked her if she wanted to hang out. "Well, I don't really agree of letting the Death Eaters get to me. I mean I feel sorry for the victims famlies, but I think being afraid is just what you-know-who wants. But, I am really bored so sure." She smiled.

Glad that Maryn agreed to join him, Kadan searched his bag and retrieved his wand. He put it in his front pocket and threw his bag back over his shoulder. "Just in case," he said with a cautious look. He didn't expect another attack, figuring security would be at its peak now, but he felt it was best to be prepared.
"So where to first?" he asked Maryn. "Anything particular you need to shop for?" He assumed she may have been there for the same reason he was. "I actually don't know my way around Hogsmade that well," he admitted. "So I could just follow you." He watched Maryn, waiting for a response. She seemed like a nice girl and it didn't see why she was alone a lot. She seems like the type to have lots of friends, he thought.

Kadan then took out his wand and put it in his front pocket."Just in case" He told her. He didn't seem to think that there would be an attack on Hogsmead, but Maryn understood his precaution. "Well, actually I need a new broom. Nothing too fancy. I'm not going to try out for Quidditch, but I love to fly. I already have my school supplies." He said that he didn't know his way around Hogsmead too well and he could follow her. "Oh, thats fine. I've been coming here alone by Floo Powder for a few years. My parents are very scared people you see. They like to stay near home. Follow me." She turned and started walking waiting for him to follow. She was happy and not alone. She was so happy in fact that she didn't even notice that she was walking near a boy with a wand in his pocket. She didn't notice that the two of them looked like everyone else. Safe from harm and in a group.

Maryn agreed to follow, and Kadan was glad to have company. He was also pleased that she knew her way around Hogsmade, because he sure didn't know it too well. When she explained to him that she planned on trying out for her house Quidditch team, he was thrilled. "Me too!" he exclaimed. "If we make it, we may end up playing against each other," he said excitedly. "What position are you considering trying out for?"
He stayed right beside Maryn as she led him down the street. He saw many familiar faces of other Hogwarts students who he assumed were gathering last minute things just as he was.

Kadan told Maryn he was planning to try out for the Quidditch team. He seemed to think that she was too."Oh, i'm not trying out. I think I said that I just love to fly. I get what people say confused too sometimes or maby your right, maybe I said it wrong I don't know."
Kadan then continued to follow Maryn down the street to the Quidditch shop. She like being with him. She was having fun but just then her cell phone rang. She had, had a cell phone as long as she could remeber. Her parents were always convinced that owls could be intercepted. Before she opened the phone she knew who it was. She opened it. "Hello, yes I know I'm sorry. I'm fine. i know I'm really sorry.I'll be home in a second.Bye" She hung up the phone and turned to Kadan. "I have to go I snuck out of the house. Uh, I hope to see you at Hogwarts." She let out a quick smile and then ran down the street to find a fireplace. After she returned home by floo powder she was greeted by her angry parents.

A bit confused, Kadan could have swore he heard Maryn say that she was going to try out for Quidditch. Oh well, he thought, must have heard her wrong. He brushed the thought out of his mind just as he heard a high-pitched chiming sound that he associated with a thing muggles call cell-phones. Sure enough, Maryn pulled out her very own cell-phone and answered it. Before he realized it, she was saying a good-bye and he was left alone. "See you later," he shouted down the street as Maryn disappeared. So much for not being alone, he shrugged. He didn't mind being alone actually, but he figured the company would have been nice. He continued on his way, unsure exactly of where he was going. He spent the rest of the day exploring the many shops of Hogsmade as he found everything he needed to begin the new year at Hogwarts.
