Ariane turned her head and looked critically at her hair-do. The maid was new, but she had managed rather nicely. Ariane’s hair had been raised high over her ears and attached with small silver clips with a few pieces of emeralds on it. After the clips Ariane’s long blond locks fell downwards freely. Ariane nodded with satisfaction. It suited her perfectly, making her look like an angel. Even though she always looked like an angel. “You can go,” Ariane told the maid who bowed and left the Ariane’s room quickly and quietly. Standing up Ariane looked at her clothes as well. Silk emerald-green pants and a white silk-blouse with a few silvery threads embroided into the material at the shape of small silver phoenixes.
Taking a small emerald green hand-bag Ariane threw a brush, a few handkerchiefs, her wand – even though she couldn’t use it yet – money a few more necessities into it. Throwing the hand-bag over her shoulder Ariane stepped into a pair of white shoes and left her room. “Mom, I’m ready to go,” Ariane told after a polite knock on the door of her mothers office at home. Entering the door at an affirmative Ariane looked at her mother who was wearing a long white summer-gown that reminded a bit of old roman dresses. A few moments later Ariane’s mother had finished braiding threads with small diamonds into her hair. Her mother never let servants do her hair. She said that they never deed good enough work with her hair. Sometimes Ariane agreed with her too. Most servants were no good.
“Lovely choice of clothes, angel,” Ariane’s mother told her before taking Ariane’s hand. A moment later they had apparated to Hogsmeade village. “Take care, will you? Go shop a bit,” her mother told Ariane handing her one more small pouch filled with galleons, “I will meet you in an hour and half at Hogshead. I have to see if my order has been fulfilled and then we’ll meet up with a few family-friends.” “I will be there, mother,” Ariane answered and dropped the pouch of money into her small bag as well. A quick calculation told her that she had about 200 galleons with her now. Enough money to pamper herself with buying something. Turning Ariane started to make her way to the Quidditch store. She would need a new broom care kit for the firebolt she had received for her 11th birthday among other things. It was shameful that she couldn’t take her own wand along with her to Hogwarts her first year. But one way or an other she would manage. Perhaps she could borrow a firebolt from some of her older friends in Slytherin.
Stepping into the quidditch store Ariane wrinkled her nose at the sight of two exited kids who were gushing over toy-brooms. Walking straight to the display of different broom care kits Ariane stared to examine them while makind sure she didn’t touch anything. She wouldn’t wand dist on her clothes now, would she? Only the best would be good enough for her.

Elle entered the quidditch shop. Clearly, she had not gotten much sleep, as there were bags under her eyes, and her makeup was a mess. At least she had been able run her brush through her wavy hair and tame it's auburn perfection. No, just yesterday, Diagon Alley had been attacked, and she had been visiting the people she knew whom had gotten hurt.
Today, she was here for some serious business. The only reason she had escaped the attack was through summoning her broom after hearing screams down the block, and flying out of Diagon Alley and back to her hotel at Hogsmeade, which she had been staying at ever since the term ended. With that in mind, Elle had called up her parents, and they allowed her to buy a faster broom, the Nimbus 2005, in case it was ever needed to save her life again.
Elle began to look at the brooms, which were next to where the various care kits were being sold. As she stepped back to admire the Firebolt, she bumped into Ariane. She turned around and saw a girl, perhaps a few years younger than she.
"Oh I'm sorry," Elle said.

Ariane looked over different kits of polish and wax and everything that was needed to care for a broom. Her house-elves always polished her broom when Ariane came from a quick flying tour. Ariane was a relatively good flyer, but she didn’t want to start playing quidditch. It was a too barbaric activity for a young lady like she was. Her eyes skimming over the different things on display Ariane had just about decided what she wanted when someone rudely ran into her.
Turning her head Ariane looked at the girl who had bumped into her. Her hair was a mess and she looked like she hadn’t slept for days. Ariane could understand not sleeping well and not looking at one’s ultimate best because of it. Though she herself always managed to medidate herself to her beauty sleep. But to come out of your room looking this ragged? Couldn't she at least have casted a glamour charm on herself to make her look less like a zombie? Wrinkling her nose in distaste Ariane pointedly brushed her white shirt and Slytherin green silk shirt. “Sorry is not good enough,” she snapped at the girl somehow managing to make it seem as if she was looking down at the girl, despite her small frame and the fact the other girl was older and taller than she was, “Watch where you’re going next time. I wouldn’t want to disinfect my clothes because of you.”
Turning Ariane snapped her finger at the helper in the short, being used to getting what she wanted momentarily. Tapping her left foot on the floor irritably as the boy made his way over Ariane scowled at him: “I want that broom care kit form the top shelf.” The store-assistant looked at the kit and then disappeared into the back room bringing a new packed kit from the storage room and placing it on the counter. “I want it delivered at the Dianne manor tonight,” Ariane stated and arched her eye-brow when the shop-assistant shook his head: “I’m sorry, but we don’t deliver at home.” “How much is it. 5 galleons? 10?” the shop-assistant seemed to hesitated so Ariane just pulled out the pouch of money her mother had given her earlier and dropped the cost of the broom care kit – 45 galleons – on the counter adding 20 galleons while looking coldly at the shop-assistant.
It took 25 galleons for the shop-assistant to agree to make sure the broom care kit would be delivered at Ariane’s home manor tonight. Dropping the final price – 70 galleons – on the counter. Sneering at the shop-assistant as he started to write down the info about the place the kit had to be delievered too. Ariane sneered at the man as he scribbled down the address to their manor. “Despicable. Everyone has a price but to be sold for 25 galleons?” Ariane muttered with distaste as she sneered at the store-assistant.

Elle rolled her eyes. She was accustomed to speaking to spoiled brats like Ariane because she babysat them on a regular basis.
"Well sorry is the best I can do," she said.
Then, turning to the shop assistant, "How much is that Nimbus 2005?"
The price turned out to be 130 galleons, which Elle payed up front. She eyed the other girl distastefully as the cashier wrapped up the broom and handed it to her.
"Are you going to Hogwarts by any chance?" Elle asked, knowing that if she were, she would be a Slytherin.

The girl said something about sorry being the best she could do. ‘Because you aren’t worth more than your ‘sorry’’ Ariane thought sarcastically. Good, WORTHY pureblooded families was so hard to find. Even Slytherins didn’t seem as good as her parents and friends had always told her. Honestly, if that Padme girl and all those others were in Slytherin, then maybe the house wasn’t worth as much as the stories about it said it was. But the Slytherin Queens Ariane had heard about seemed absolutely enchanting. Now those were girls Ariane would adore to meet one day. They were all from good families too.
The girl who had so rudely ran into her bought a Nimbus 2005. Not a too bad broom Ariane thought silently, but it would never beat her own Firebolt. Just then the girl talked to her again. Turning her head slowly Ariane took her in, wrinkling her nose with distaste once again upon seeing her rather… dishelmed appearance. Glamour charms weren’t that hard! Mother had taught some to Ariane as well. Then again she was a good witch. And with her angelic appearance didn’t need magic to enchant her looks. Mother always said she was her little angel. She said Ariane looked like an angel as well. Ariane had never argued with that. But not everyone could be as lucky as she was after all.
“Yes, I will be joining Hogwarts not that it’s any business of you,” Ariane gave the girl a quick once-over, “I truly hope you aren’t in Slytherin. The only house actually worth something.”

"You don't have to be gawking at me like that," Elle said, rolling her eyes once more, "And if two years ago, I had known you'd be going to Hogwarts, I would have hoped not to be in Slytherin too. But either way I'm not, and thank god for it since you probably will be."
That brat needs to learn some respect, she thought.
Then she went to the restroom, pulled out her purse, and took out her travel-size makeup remover. Once all her old, smeared makeup had been taken off, she applied fresh eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, and lipgloss, with a hint of blush. It didn't help the bags under my eyes, Elle thought, but I'll just go home and fix it up in a little bit, after I finish talking to that little girl. After brushing her hair, Elle walked out of the restroom.

“Like you look good enough to gawk at. I’m appalled to see someone actually daring to come out looking this… terrifying,” Ariane answered with an icy tone, raising her hand to make sure her hair hadn’t gotten messed up. Not that even one strand of her hair actually looked out of place. Touching her hair-clips to make sure they were at the best possible degree to adorn Ariane she smiled with satisfaction. She looked as good as she had when she left home. Which was good when they were going to meet family-friends for lunch with mother.
“And you really have to learn to modify your attitude when talking to you betters,” Ariane told the girl with a small smirk. Some people had called her spoiled sometimes. Certainly, father and mother got her everything she wished, but Ariane made sure she always behaved and looked her best. All of fathers companions at work always told Ariane that she was a real angel. Hopefully the Dark Lord would find use for her as well as his follower. Mother and father were Lord’s most faithfull servants and so would Ariane be one day. Hopefully the wizarding world would be freed of mubloods who didn’t know their place and those freaky half-bloods. What kind of a self-respecting wizard would marry a muggle – that was something Ariane didn’t understand.
The girl left towards the restroom and after a few minutes her order was filled out. Signing the home-delivery order with a swirly but graceful signature. Turning Ariane started to leave the store, when the girl reappeared from the restroom with a refreshed make-up. Giving the girl something between a smirk and a sneer Ariane stepped out of the store looking around for a moment. Stepping down the one step to the street Ariane stopped to buy heself a mint-vanila ice-cream form a ice-cream cart on the street.

"Oh I'm sorry you find people who are out and haven't slept for a while terrifying," Elle said, after walking out of the restroom and passing Ariane, her tone just as icy, "But once you get to Hogwarts, you will find that there are many things more terrifying than a disheveled appearance. And my attitude is fine. Mind you you're the one with little to respect towards others."
As she walked out the door, Elle noticed that Ariane came out too. Passing by the ice cream cart where Ariane had bought an ice cream cone, Elle's mouth began to water. After buying a strawberry smoothie, she leaned over to Ariane and whispered, "Oh you better watch out. That ice cream cart is run by a half-blood. Imagine what your daddy would say, seeing you associate with these kinds of filthy people."
With that, Elle stepped away and off down the road.

Ariane glanced coldly at the girl at her comment: “Terrifying? Oh, don’t worry. I’m already terrified of the idea of having to be in the same classroom as all those mudbloods ruining the good air. Considering the people Dumbledore allows to enter the school – maybe he should start thinking about retiring.” Biting into the frosty ice-cream Ariane enjoyed the taste. The softness of vanilla brought out the sharpness of mint, all together making a perfect background for both falvours. Ariane took a step back as that girl leaned closer. Arching a cold eye-brow at her Ariane smield angelically while putting a finger at herlips as if thinking about something: “Since light travels faster than sound, isn’t that why some people appear bright until you hear them speak? Because you certainly seemed to be bright enough to know your betters until you actually opened your mouth. These kinds of half-bloods are doing exactly the things they should be doing. Serving people who are better than them. Like me.” Ariane dropped a galleon on the cart and turned to leave while calmly liking her ice-cream cone. The ice-cream had cost less than a galleon, but Ariane was generous. Turning Ariane sauntered away down the street with satisfaction.
