Gary trudged down an old path in the forest surrounding Hogsmeade. It was a pleasant day really – sun was shining, it was warm, the forest had flowers blooming in them. On the whole it was a nice day to be out and about. Stretching and yawning Gary figured it was time to start heading back towards Hogsmeade slowly. He didn’t want to get lost. Entering the Forbidden Forest without knowing would not be a good idea either. There was a reason why the Forest was forbidden. The biggest reason – it was dangerous. Gary didn’t fancy a meeting with some big creature with big fangs that would decide Gary would do nicely for a snack. No, that wouldn’t be good at all.
Smiling lightly Gary reached the edge of the Forest and saw the Shrieking Shack in the distance. Gary moved towards it and upon reaching the fence surrounding the building leaned on it. It was an interesting building. Supposedly one of the worst haunted buildings in Britain. Yet, no one had heard anything from the house for good many years. Gary stared at the shack in wonder. It might have been a relatively nice house one time. It was a shame it’s owners had abandoned it and let it fall into such a state it was in now. Gary actually suspected that all the ghost-stories about the house were largely made up to keep children from going there. Over the time it might be dangerous already too – what if you fell and hurt yourself? No one would come looking for you in the shack if you got hurt badly. Getting blood-poisoning from some rusty nail wouldn’t be fun either. Yet, it was a shame such a building had just been left to fall into ruins.
Closing his eyes Gary let his head fall back. With a light breeze tousling his brown wavy hair he imagined what his life will be like one day. Gary didn’t want much. He didn’t need big castles or money or everyone staring at him in wonder. No, that would not be the things for him. Gary would want a nice little house that would feel like home. Some place where his sisters and mother could visit anytime. A place where he could laugh and grill with friends. Yes, such a house would be perfect for Gary. Making a promise for himself to fulfill this dream one day, Gary opened his eyes again and smiled at the Shrieking Shack. It was a nice house in it’s own way after all. It just hadn’t gotten all the care it deserved. But the house wasn’t to be blamed of this.

Mirabel sat on the bay window in her room at her grandmother’s house anxiously awaiting the arrival of her older brother, Aedan. He was to arrive sometime that morning and then they would be going off to Hogsmeade. Mirabel loved going to Hogsmeade with her grandmother and brother. It was one of the only times she was able to be around other witches and wizards. This summer she had spent with her Grandmother Meletti to prepare for her first term at Hogwarts. All summer she had been learning what it meant to be a pureblood and the responsibilities that entailed. Mirabel was also learning of all the contributions the Maye family had made to the wizarding world so that when she took her rightful place as a Maye she could continue in her mother’s footsteps. Planning for her arrival into society had alreay begun even though it would not take place until she was fourteen. All these new rules were being thrown at her and she did not like very many of them. For example why wasn’t she allowed to talk with the house elves while waiting for her evening snack in the kitchens? In fact now she was not even allowed to go in the kitchens. “A proper witch would never sink to the level of preparing her own food or eating it in the kitchens.” Her grandmother had said when the ghost, Jareth, had found her there. Oh how she detested Jareth. He seemed to be lurking around every corner just waiting for her to mess up, which she did quite a bit.
When she saw the limousine pull into the circular drive she raced from her room, through Jareth, down the grand staircase, and threw open the door before the butler, Roland, could. “Aedan!” she shouted happily as he stepped out of the car. Aedan wrapped her up in a hug and twirled her around. “And how are you my dear Mira?” he asked setting her back on her feet. “Absolutely horrid. I can’t stand all of this society nonsense. Want to trade places?” she asked hopefully as he took her hand and began to lead her back to the mansion. “I went through it all as well Mira. You’ll get used to it.” He looked down at Mirabel only to find her head bowed in disappointment. “Why so glum? Don’t we have a date to visit Hogsmeade today?” Mirabel was once again happy and chatted non stop while Aedan unpacked his school trunk.
Soon Mirabel, Aedan, and their grandmother were seated comfortably in the back of the limousine and on their way to the village of Hogsmeade. “Now Mirabel,” her grandmother began as they approached the village, “you must not go wandering off. Make sure you are always with Aedan or myself. I do not wish to have to scour the lands looking for you today.” “Yes, grandmother.” She answered obediently, her eyes still glued to the passing scenery.
Mirabel was lost. She knew better than to wander off in Hogsmeade, but her curiosity had gotten the better of her. As she tramped along the wooded path she caught sight of a dilapidated house. She began to see signs warning her to keep away. She wondered if this was the shack her brother, Aedan, had written to her about. It was supposedly haunted, but it looked fairly safe to Mirabel. Of course that might have been due to the bright sunlight. She figured Aedan would eventually stumble upon her if she waited by the shack. Hopefully her grandmother would not be too upset with her for leaving her brother’s sight. After all Mirabel was eleven now she did not need to be watched at all times.
She caught sight of an older boy leaning against the fence of the shack. Taking a minute to decide if she should approach him she swallowed her fear and continued walking. “Hello,” she called when she had gotten with in ear shot of the boy, “my name’s Mirabel. I was wondering if you could help me find my way back to Hogsmeade?” she looked up at him expectantly, her grey-green eyes wide and a sincere smile on her lips.

Rosaliz sneezed foe the hundredth time. A lot of pollen was filling the air. She loved the hot weather, but wished that she didn’t have allergies. She sat in the blazing sun, admiring her surroundings. She looked around, there were people walking in and out of pubs, chattering with friends. "dum Dum DunDunnn!!" she whispered to herself, having nothing to do. She wanted to talk to somebody. Dying to spill out her ideas floating in her mind. She was wondering if they sell any remedies to help control her allergies. She walked, into a pub. She saw that one of they soled remedies. She bought it. She was going to walk home since the directions on the bottle said she needed to sleep first, and after she wakes, to drink a cup, full of it. Rosaliz walked out of the pub. She continued her way. She saw the shrinking shack. She believed that it was haunted herself. She saw a boy leaning on the fence, and another first year she recognized, from her house. She wasn’t interested much, but she thought it was odd that Mirabel walked up to Gary. Rosaliz started to walk over to investigate. She wasn’t nosy, but she just wanted to know what was going on.

Gary was still standing and staring at the Shrieking shack while his mind wondered over his future plans. Or what he hoped that would become his future one day. Being startled out of his thoughts by someone speaking to him, Gary turned and saw a small girl. She was probably a first year. Or someone starting Hogwarts next year. It took a moment for the girls words to register in Gary’s mind. “Sure, Hogsmeade isn’t that far from here actually. Did you get lost?” Gary asked the girl with a friendly smile while holding out his hand for her, “I’m glad to meet you, Mirabel. I’m Gary.” Smiling at the girl friendlily Gary observed her for a moment. She looked sweet. Cute little girl.
Looking up Gary saw one more girl approaching them. The approaching girl was around Mirabel’s age too. “Hi, are you heading towards Hogsmeade too?” Gary asked the other girl with a smile still visible on his face. He wouldn’t mind helping the girl get back to the wizarding village. He himself should return to it relatively soon too. “Do you go to Hogwarts or will you be starting first year there in autumn?” Gary asked Mirabel as he slowly started to walk down the path leading from the Shrieking Shack towards Hogsmeade.

Mirabel sighed in relief thanking Merlin that Gary was kind. She took his hand as her smile brightened. “Yes, I did get lost. I know I’m not supposed to wander, but I could not help it. I start Hogwarts this year. My brother Aedan will be a third year. What year are you in?” she asked knowing that she was rambling. She always did become nervous around people she didn’t know. Looking around she tried to memorize everything in sight so next time she decided to wander she would not be lost.
She spotted the other girl who looked to be about her age. Cool, maybe she would be able to make friends with out the help of her brother or grandmother. Of course she did always like the friends they picked for her she wanted to try and overcome her shyness before school began. What fun would it be to always hang out with Aedan? She had decided she needed friends of her very own. Friends she picked for herself. If that was how one went about making friends that is.

Rosaliz approched, Mirabel and Gary. She heared that, the girl, was lost. Rosaliz frowned hearing this. 'I came her for notthing, I could of been a sleep by know.' she thought. Rosaliz sneezed again. Starting to blush. " Hi my name is Rosaliz, umm" she said streaching her last muffled word, not finding what else to say. She just stood there feeling her face get even, hotter."Did you here that the Shreicking shack, is haunted?" Rosaliz asked, changing the subject. She stood, there waitng for a reply by either of them. (( , this is the way I felt doing this post..undecied to what my charrie should have said.))

"I don't believe it's haunted," Mirabel said, "Aedan has written me all about it and he says there hasn't been any sign of haunting for a good twenty years. I'm Mirabel by they way. It's a pleasure to meet you." Mirabel hoped she hadn't been to forward. She bit her tongue to keep from saying anything else. Perhaps she should apologize, she didn't want to offend anyone. "But that's just my opinion." she added hastily. Her eyes flicked nervously between Gary and Rosaliz looking for any sign that she might have done something wrong. On this her grandmother might have been right; it was better to be seen and not heard.

Rosaliz listened to Mirabel speak. After she finished, she noticed that the girl was making a weird face-movement, as if she was biting her tongue or something. She didn’t think of anything to say, since she had no ideas floating in her mind during that time. “Umm…will you go inside the Shriecking Shack, if somebody dared you,” Rosaliz asked, standing there. Waiting for either of them to reply.

“I’m a Ravenclaw. I’ll be starting my fourth year at Hogwarts in autumn,” Gary replied to Mirabel with a smile. He was proud of his house. Hoped he himself made his house proud too. Gary greatly disliked all kinds of tests and exams, but he did try his best. Looking between the two girls Gary asked with a smile: “You seem to know about Hogwarts and it’s houses? If so, then do you have any idea what house you would want to be in, if you don’t mind me asking?”
Listening to the girls exchange of words about the Shrieking Shack Gary looked at the house again. A smile appeared on his face again as he recalled all the plans and dreams looking at the house had caused just mere minutes earlier. “I don’t think that the house is haunted either. But, no I wouldn’t go inside it because of a dare,” Gary answered to Rosaliz’s question while staring at the house, “It’s an old house and it hasn’t been cared for in years. I wouldn’t want to fall through some floor-board and break a leg. Or scratch myself on some rusty nail and get blood-poisoning. I’m not trying to be brave, but I wouldn’t want to hurt myself for no real reason either.”
Gary stared at the Shrieking Shack for a few more moments before turning and smiling at the girls: “Besides there are enough dangers In Hogwarts with changing stair-cases, steps you can fall through or get stuck in and Filch. You don’t want to be caught by Filch if you have just came from outside. Filch is the care-keeper of Hogwarts and if he discovers that you have made one dirty foot-print on the floor, then you can be sure to wash floors in detention later. But Hogwarts is fun.”

“My grandmother will already be frightfully mad that I have wandered off. I would rather not add to it by doing something dangerous.” She answered Rosaliz before turning to Gary, “My older brother Aedan will be a Gryffindor third year and writes to me telling me all sorts of stories. My grandmother hopes that I will follow in my grandfather’s footsteps and be a Slytherin, but I want to be near Aedan so most likely Gryffindor. Although all the women in my family have been in Ravenclaw. It’s strange I know that I would end up in Gryffindor with such a prominent background in Ravenclaw, but it’s our choices that matter really, not our history.” When she stopped for a breath she listened to Gary’s explanation of Hogwarts and all its mysteries. “Is it really true that Mr. Filch has a cat that can tell him when students are up to no good?” she asked. Mirabel had a cat and while she loved Spaz dearly he tended to not be the smartest kitten from the litter. She highly doubted he would ever learn to tell her anything with the exception of when to be fed, scratched, or played with.

Rosaliz stood there, yawing, which reminded her that she needed to got to her final destination. She liked both of the students, but then said "I have to go, may sometime we can hang-out. It was great meeting you guys." Rosaliz Started walking, after twenty minutes, she thought of Gary and Mirabel. She thought Mirabel was pretty brave wondering around Hogsmeade on her own. She then was awoken from her thoughts when she felt a hard pouring of rain fall on her head 'just what I need' she thought frowning.
((May-be we can role play when Hogwarts opens up again. ;D ))

Aedan. Gary thought about the name but wasn’t able to connect it with any face. He probably didn’t know Mirabel’s brother. That was rather expected – Hogwarts was a big school and Aeden and Gary were from different houses. Gary didn’t even know most of the Ravenclaws. Listening carefully to Mirabel’s story about her family, Gary guessed that she was a pure-blood. Only pure-bloods tracked family-history like into which house someone had gone to. Mirabel’s grand-mother seemed like one of those Slytherin-like pure-bloods thinking she was better than others while Mirabel herself seemed rather pleasant.
Gary laughed and nodded: “Yes, mrs. Norris is exceptionally smart. I don’t know how she does it, but when she finds you out after curfew or doing something you shouldn’t be doing, then you can be sure that Filch be there within a minute. I don’t know how those two communicate, but it’s almost like some sort of a telepathy between them.”
“Take care of yourself,” Gary told Rosaliz with a bright smile as she said she had to leave. Sending the girl with his eyes for a little way, Gary hoped that she would make it to Hogsmeade alright. Hearing a noice Gary looked up and saw dark rain-clouds already covering the sky. Just as Gary looed up first droplets of water started to fell too. “Come on, let’s run to Hogsmeade. We can dry in the Three Broomstick,” Gary told Mirabel holding out his hand for her before leading her back towards Hogsmeade with a light jog when she was ready.
((Sure, we can try RPing together when Hogwarts opens up again. Mirabel - do you want to continue this post or not?))

Mirabel waved good bye to Rosaliz hoping she would be able to see her again before school was to start. The low rumble of thunder made her look to the sky frantically. Oh her grandmother was sure to be in a right state when she returned. Taking hold of Gary's hand she ran with him to the Three Broomsticks. It was a quaint little place and it was packed full of witches and wizards taking cover from the rain. Quickly she scanned the crowd for her brother and grandmother, but did not see them. She sighed with relief. Maybe she could play off that she had been in here the entire time. Her punishment was sure to be less severe if her grandmother thought she had simply gotten caught up in the wonder of it all. She began to wring the water our of her black skirt and red blouse before moving to her long hair. It was already beginning to frizz, but she was not bothered by this fact. She waited patiently for Gary to explain to her what was to happen next.

Gary and Mirabel ran to Hogsmeade. But they still got completely soaked during their time out none the less. Watching as Mirabel wrung some water out of her clothes, Gary decided that there wouldn’t be any use doing the same himself. Pushing his wet bangs away from his eyes, Gary steered Mirabel towards an empty table. “I’ll go get ourselves some butter-beers,” Gary told Mirabel with a smile before walking to the counter. Madam Rosmerta herself was behind the counter and she smiled at Gary from far before launching into a question whether Gary would give her a hand later in building a few new shelves in the cellar.
Gary agreed happily as he thanked Rosmerta as she told him that the two butterbeers were to seal the deal. Returning to Mirabel Gary sat opposite of her at one table and handed her one of the bottles: “Have you had butter-beer before? It’s rather good. I have never seen anything like it in the muggle world, but I like the taste.” Gary smiled at Mirabel, wondering how her grand-mother had allowed her to wonder away alone. Wasn’t she worried that Mirabel might get lost like she had? “Do you have to meet your grand-mother at some special place later? Isn’t she worried about you? I suppose she will reach the Three Broomsticks in the end – everybody also come here because the chances of running into someone familiar are biggest here. You can tell me a bit of yourself during that time. Are you anxious of going to Hogwarts?” Gary asked in a conversational tone as he sipped the butterbeer.
((How it ends? As it turns out, perhaps? I don't know. Let me know via a PM if you want it to end in some special way.))

Mirabel smiled as she took the bottle from Gary, "I love butterbeer." she told him taking a small sip and sighing from the warmth the now flooded through her. "Grandmother will only worry for a moment before she becomes angry. Preston is supposed to watch over me, but sometimes he can be so thick. Sooner or later they'll find me. I never worry about that." she took another sip and smiled remembering when she had first met Preston.
She had been six and her mum was scolding her for having wandered out of sight while on an outing in London. That was when Grandmother brought in Preston. He was tall fellow from Bath with thick black hair and dull blue eyes. Mirabel soon learned it was very easy to still scamper off even when she was with Preston. Sooner or later, however, he always managed to find her.
"I cannot wait to begin Hogwarts. You may think I'm foolish, but I love school. I like to learn and magic is just so fascinating. I've been using Grandmother's wand to practice a few simple wands, but she says I will do much better once I get my own. What about you? Do you enjoy going to Hogwarts? I haven't heard you utter one word about your family and here I am going on and on about myself. You must think me terribly rude." she said before taking another sip of butterbeer.

Gary smiled with relief when Mirabel said that her grand-mother wouldn’t worry too much. For a moment Gary recalled Lindy. He would be terrified if his 12 year old little sister would disappear somewhere. Gary would be terrified with Janey or Shirley would disappear too. Her sisters and mother too meant the world to Gary. Listening to Mirabel’s story about using her grand-mothers wand Gary laughed lightly: “Yes, it’s much better to cast spells with your own wand. Your wand chooses you after all as Ollivander said when I went to buy my wand. I don’t think he really liked serving me as I constantly sent something flying around. And when I finally found a wand for me. Yes, birds came out of there too. Flying once again. We had the hardest time getting the birds out of the store.” Gary told Mirabel about one of his first misadventures in the magical world when he still didn’t know anything about it. Luckily his first impressions of witches and wizards had been positive. If Gary had met some Slytherin first, then he wouldn’t have known if he had even wanted to become a wizard himself.
Shaking the thought away Gary smiled when Mirabel asked about his family. “Oh, I liked hearing about your family. It was interesting. But asking about my family isn’t that safe. I could talk for ages about my family so tell me if I start boring you. I have three sisters: Janey, Shirley and Lindy. Janey and Shirley are older than me, Lindy is younger. And I adore my mom Kelsey. I’m a muggle-born you see, so we were all shocked when we received a letter an by owl none the less. But as it turned out my fathers mother was a witch and she was the one who introduced me to magical world. None of my sisters is a witch however,” Gary tried to make a short summary of his family before thinking about Hogwarts, “And yes, I like Hogwarts. It’s fun and I like my friends there, even when I miss my sisters and mom. And the classes are interesting. Except Potions. I don’t like Potions. Maybe because Snape isn’t the friendliest professor around and I’m not very good at the subject either. But transfiguration is absolutely amazing. McGonagall, she is the head of Gryffindor house too, is stern, but she’s a very good teacher. She’s fair too.”

"Hogwarts sounds like a lot of fun. Grandmother says while I'm there I need to straighten out Aedan and make sure he tends to his studies." she smiled and her eyes skimmed the crowd once again. "Oh look there's Preston." she said suddenly upon seeing her, "I do wish I knew how he can always find me." she stood and waved at him. "He doesn't talk very much, but I'm sure he'll thank you for helping me get back to Hogsmeade. Oh and there's grandmother and Aedan right behind him. She doesn't look too thrilled does she?" Mirabel rambled as the trio grew closer, "Don't fret about grandmother though. She's harmless. More bark than bite actually."
Mirabel bit her lip as she waited for them to arrive at the table. She sat back down and took a few more sips of her butterbeer.
"And another thing," she whispered to Gary, "you might not want to mention you're muggle born. My grandmother is a bit strange when it comes to that subject. But Aedan and I could care less about blood. As long as you can cast a spell what does it matter, right?"
"Mirabel Anne where have you been? I was frantic with worry." her grandmother said in a deadly whisper.
"I got lost grandmother. I'm very sorry, but this nice boy helped me find my way back to Hogsmeade. I did get caught in the rain though."
"Well then dear there's no reason for you to sit here soaking wet." her grandmother said helping Mirabel stand.
"Goodbye Gary. It was a pleasure meeting you." Mirabel said as her grandmother took her hand and began leading her out of the Three Broomsticks. She waved with her free hand hoping that she would see him at school one day. He was after all the first friend she had ever made on her own.
