Pyro moved along the streets of Hogsmeade. He had no particular path in mind. Just walking and enjoying the time alone. The people on the streets moving about him were nothing but a blur to him. Pyro could hear snippets of their conversations, but he mostly just ignored them as he dodged and weaved through the traffic of people. He passed by a ton of shops, but hardly gave them more than a mere glance. As he moved the throng of people around him began to grow smaller. The large crowd slowly but surely began to thin out. Before Pyro even knew it, he was alone on the streets. He looked about him and noticed why. He was now in the dark and shady side of Hogsmeade, the side where not so many people wandered on a regular basis. Pyro shrugged at his surrounding and began to walk again. As he walked by a certain building a whisper reached him. “Psst! Hey, boy.”
Pyro whirled around at the voice. There stood a man, tall and thin, and very shaggy looking. He stood in a shady alley way. Pyro tensed up, preparing himself in case the man tried anything. “What?” He asked the man. The man quickly looked around to see if anyone was watching. “You like animals?” He asked Pyro. Pyro narrowed his eyes as he studied the man, what was he getting at? “Sure, some of them.” Pyro replied to the man. The man gave Pyro a crooked and dirty toothed smile. “Well, today’s your lucky day boy. I got something here that I think you will like” With that the man reached back into the dark alley and laid something down on the ground between him and Pyro. Pyro looked at it. It looked like a birdcage with a drape over it. Still grinning the man reached down and grabbed the drape and pulled it off the cage.
Pyro looked down at the inhabitant of the cage and nearly lost his breath. “Is.. Is that a….?” The man nodded at Pyro’s uncompleted sentence. “Yup, it’s a baby Phoenix” Pyro looked from the bird, to the man, back to the bird. “And.. Your giving this to me? Just like that?” The man nodded, a sad expression on his face. “Aye, unfortunately I cant keep her, had to give her away, you look like a able bodied boy, so I’m giving her to you.” Pyro could hardly believe his luck, he moved forward and kneeled in front of the cage. Looking in at he magnificent and beautiful animal. Suddenly Pyro remembered something that made his shoulders droop. “I cant keep her, Phoenix aren’t allowed in the…..” He had looked up to notice the man was gone.
Pyro sat looking at the Phoenix. He couldn’t possibly keep her. Dumbledore and the other Professors wouldn’t allow it. Unless, they didn’t know about it. Pyro could keep her, he’d have to leave her in the common room a lot, but during the summer he could let her out as often as she wanted. Pyro grinned as he picked up the discarded drape and covered the cage again and than picked up the cage and began to head back toward the castle. Luckily on his walk to the castle he didn’t encounter any of his classmate. When he reached the castle he began to walk towards the common room and again he was lucky, there was nobody in the halls. When he stepped into the common room there was a group of first years in a corner, but a glare from Pyro made them abruptly avert their eyes.
