Kari unlocked the door to her house, and was greeted by the cheers of her little sister Anne.
"Hey Anne. We're going to have visitors for dinner." she said, closing the door behind her as her sister ran into the kitchen.
"Mum? I'm here," Kari called, following Anne. She saw a pot of sauce on the stove, and her mom holding her wand and waving it as the wooden spoon stirred magically on it's own. Noodles were boiling on the other stove ring, and Kari went over to help.
"Need anything?" she asked, rolling up the sleeves of her white sweater.
"Huh? Oh, no. It's okay. You go answer the door." her mom replied motioning to the door with her free hand. Kari headed to the door and opened it up.
"Hi!" she replied to her friend as she let her inside.

Cass was motioned by Kari to come into her home. The smells and sounds of home cooking filled up the room. Never been in a wizarding home before, she really didn't know what to expect.
" Hi Kari. Hello Mrs. Chiff. How are you both today?" Cass, who always felt akward at other people's homes, placed her robe on a hook on the wall.
Seeing Mrs. Chiff stirring the contents of the pot with her wand, she uttered a low 'wow'.

Kari's mom smiled at Kari's friend.
"Mom, this is Cass." she said introducing her friend. Mrs Chiff smiled at Cass, and noticed her surprise at how she stirred the sauce with er wand.
"Don't worry. It's just spaghetti sauce. And it's pretty easy to stir sauce with a spoon by bewitching it with your wand." Mrs Chiff showed Cass the spell, letting the spoon become un-bewitched. She closed her eyes and concentrated hard on the spoon moving in the pot. Suddenly, the spoon began to move. "And as long as you keep moving your wand, the sauce stirs itself. You can go anywhere inthe room, as long as the sauce is stirring."
Kari watched her mom teach Cass how to stir the sauce.
"Why don't you try Cass? I never was good at cooking spells, but mom's great." Kari tried to stir the sauce with her wand, but ended up getting splattered with it. She wiped some sauce off the bridge of her nose with her index finger and licked it. "Yum..." she muttered, tasting the basil and garlic and hundreds of other flavours.

Faith walked down the drive of Kari's house, clutching a boquet of flowers she had bought in Hogsmeade. She approached the door and glanced up at the house. She hoped she wasn't too late. She had missed Cass leaving, she was later than her but, Faith glanced at her watch, she was only five or so minutes behind the time Kari had said. Faith rapped on the door and took a step back. She could hear voices and smelt the welcoming scent of home-cooking. She smiled as the door opened and she saw Kari standing there. "Hiya," She greeted warmly. She shifted the flowers from her arm, "Mum said I should bring these for yours." "I'm sorry if I look too creepy." She added with a grin. ((Sorry for controlling your actions a bit and making you open the door. If you want I could change it, it just made it a bit easier))

Cass attempted to stir the sauce with her wand, and after concentrating a bit, she was able to get the spoon to move. She exlaimed in delight when she did.
" I've never been in a wizarding household before. I don't know many people from Birmingham who are our kind."

Kari smiled and let Faith in as her mom showed Cass how to stir the sauce.
"Good work, Cassandra!" she heard her mom say as Cass managed to stir the sauce successully. "Do you want to try, Faith?" she asked as she took the flowers. "Accio vase," she muttered, and had to duck as a flower vase came flying at the space where her head had been moments before.
"Karissa Alice Chiff! I told you not to use summoning charms in the house!" yelled her mother. Kari smiled sheepishly and picked up he shards of glass. "Reparo," she muttered, and the vase flew back together, and Kari placed the flowers in the vase.
Kari and Faith headed into the kitchen. Her mom head just taken the bread out of the oven, and it was cooling on the counter. Kari's dad walked in.
"Hey dad," she said, putting the vase on the table. "How was work?"
Her dad groaned in response and pulled off his cloak.
"Obviously not very good," whispered Kari.

Cass laughed silently as Mrs. Chiff admonished Kari. How many times had she heard something like that in her home? Too many to tell.
Cass ran over to smell the flowers that Faith had brought in. " What kind are these Faith? They smell awfully good."
Cass continued to stare in awe around the house. All the moving pictures caught her attention. There was one of Kari and her sister on a broom, one at Birthday party, which sister she didn't know, and one where the family was standing somewhere that looked like a beach.
Cass pointed at the picture. " Hey, Kari, where is this?"

Kari looked at the photo, seeing her and her family waving.
"Actually, that's just this past summer," she said, looking more closely. "There's me, Mum, Dad, Anne, and my cousin Artemisia. My Aunt and Uncle couldn't come, they were to busy." Kari remembered that she was supposed to be telling Cass where the picture had been taken.
"It was actually somewhere just south of here. I can't remember the name of the place, but it's really nearby. The beach was beautiful, crystal clear." Kari noticed her sister Anne about to taste the sauce, but then Kari's mom noticed too.
"Anne! Don't stick your fingers in the sauce! We're going to be eating it soon!"
Kari noticed that the sauce was almost done, and she offered to help her mom.
"Thank you, Kari," she said, taking the pot off the stove while Kari set the table.
"Some people have house elves who do this sort of thing, setting the tables and stuff, but I never liked that idea. I know that the're nice and all, working at Hogwarts, but sometimes they should get a break or two."
Kari placed 6 plates around the table, along with six forks, spoons, knives, and everything else

Faith followed her friend into the kitchen. She smiled in greeting at Kari's mother, and her father when he came in and looked around. It reminded Faith a lot of home; a friendly, family atmosphere with all the curiositities of a wizarding home. She said a quick hi to Cass and looked at her when she asked about the flowers.
"Er, the florist did tell me," She replied, biting her lip as she thought back, "But it's completley escaped me. They're pretty though and honestly what I go on. And scent ofcourse. Hope you like them," She added to Mrs Chiff.
She turned round and realised that Karissa was setting the table. She opened her mouth to offer to help but within seconds Kari was finished.
"Where should I sit?" Faith enquired of Kari, looking around at the six chairs.

"Just about anywhere," Kari said to Faith while watching her sister. Now she was sitting on the floor with a little doll and a toy broomstick. She put the doll on the broomstick and it began to fly around the room. Kari's mom and dad didn't seem to notice, but Kari did.
"I guess you finally managed to get it to work, huh?" she said, smiling at her sister. Just then, Anne's kitten Fluffy came running into the kitchen, and began to jump up and down trying to get at the toy. She jumped up onto the table and Kari had to try to catch the tiny broomstick.
"This is like some strange twist on Quidditch," she said, trying to catch the tiny broom as it whizzed around over her head. "Except this is a lot more annoying." She clapped above her head, catching the broomstick in between her hands.
"I wonder if the Gryffindor seeker ever thought of doing that," she said as she handed the broom to her sister.

Cass sat beside Faith as she saw the little toy whir around the room. It was cute. " Harry has probably done everything imaginable to catch a snitch. He told me about this one time when he was in third year he fell of his broom because the air got to thin."
Cass began pull her napkin from around her silverware. She did this really slowly. She was half afraid that the silverware was enchanted so that it fed you.
At the mention of house elves, Cass eyes gave an inquisitive looke. " House elf? What's a house elf?"

Faith pulled out a chair and sat down next to Cass. She blinked as her friend asked what a house elf was.
"You mean you haven't seen them round the castle?" She said, "It's thanks to the house-elves that our dorm isn't a complete and utter tip. If I was left to clean up after myself...well it wouldn't be pretty."
She realised afterwards that she hadn't provided and explanation and started again.
"They're, well, they're elves," She attempted, shaking out her napkin, "They clean things and stuff. They come as a package deal in huge places like Hogwarts."
Faith fished around a brain for a better way to explain but found none and shrugged, hoping her's would be enough.

Cassandra blushed profusely. Very hesitantly she confessed, " I've never seen one." She really didn't want Kari's mother to overhear her say that. It was ackward enough to be muggle born, but to let everyone know was worse.
She placed her napkin in her lap. " I just always assumed everything was done by magic there."

"Well, house elves are magic, they're just magical ceatures resembling humans." Kari smiled. "And it's perfectly all right, I didn't know they had house elves at Hogwarts until that one time when I was up at 3 in the morning and a house elf came in. It was kind of cool, actually. We got into this conversation about the rights they should have and stuff, like they should at least get a few sickles or even a knut so they can have some freedom." Kari sat down and thought of what the dorm room would look like if she had to clean it. She laughed. "The dorm room would look like a complete disaster if I had to clean it. My room here alone is a mess, and most of my stuff is at school." Kari turned her fork around in the noodles, as they swirled around getting covered in sauce. She lifted some up and tooka bit. "Yum. THis is really good!" ((sorry I'm kinda limitting the food choice, it's just that my mom made spaghetti when I started this post, and it smelt sooo good. My mom is a gemius with food! ))

Faith stayed unusually quiet as Kari and Cass talked, but she noted a redness appear in the latter's face and let a confused look appear on her own. She found it strange that Cass should be well, embarassed by her muggle heritage. Faith herself, being pureblood, had been fascianted by the muggle world when she was younger and this infanctuation was prolonged as she coincided with so many muggle born sudents at Hogwarts. Faith assumed it was a sensitive subject and so, decided not to bring it up with so many people present, and instead persisted to wind spaghetti around her fork with a smile.
"It is really good," Faith agreed, "I'm a sucker for home-cooked meals."

Cass took a bite of the spaghetti. " This is great Mrs. Chiff. My mother doesn't really cook anymore. She doesn't have the time. We mostly stay to the four food groups at home: frozen, canned, boxed, and take out." She tried to make a bit of a joke.
" Kari, are you going to try out for the Quidditch team? I know you've been really excited about it. Maybe you should start as a reserve first. We are always needing reserved players." Cass attempted to make conversation.

Kari thought about it.
"You know, I have been wanting to try. I've learned to fly without falling off, so long as the windspeed isn't to high." Kari took a piece of garlic bread that her mom offered her.
Kari took a bite of the bread and smiled.
"In fact, I think I would like to try. I can fly better when I'm preoccupied with trying to find something or catch something or avoid something. I wouldn't mind being a reserve Chaser."

Cass shook her head in agreement. " You should ask Harry about it. I mean, he always complains we don't have enough reserves. I was just lucky I was a natural on a broom If I wasn't, I definetly wouldn't be a Beater. I have bit of a tough skin."
Mr. Chiff poured Cass some more water, and she thanked him.
" I remember my first practice. I was horrified to fall of my broom in front of Harry. Then, Ron Weasley was there, which didn't make anything any better. It was so funny. I remember going to the locker room and pulling off my robe to find more bruises on me than I had ever seen."
She took another bite of spaghetti. " I was lucky growing up though. My cousin Craig taught me to toughen up through Kendo."

Kari's sister Anne looked at Cass.
"What's Kendo?" she asked.
"Kendo's a type of martial art, I'm pretty sure." Kari smiled at Anne and watched as a look of understanding came over her face.
"Like how that bully kicked your butt over the summer?" questioned Anne. Kari felt a red flush come over her face.
"Umm, yeah, that's exactly what it is!" Kari pretended to wipe her face with her napkin but instead she was just trying to hide the blushing of embarassment.

Cass laughed at Anne's unabashed honesty. " I wouldn't go spreading that around, sweety." Addressing Anne.
" Anne, are you into anything in particular? Do you like dolls or maybe Strawberry Shortcake?"
She passed a plate down to Kari's mother. " How long has your family lived in Hogsmeade? I would love to live here. It's just a nice little community. Unfortuanately, we will never leave the city."
