((Sorry for the lack of a better title.))
The sun was shining, and it was a perfect day be in Diagon Alley. It wasn't too bright, or too hot, and it was just around noon. Maddie walked down the streets on Diagon Alley, in a rather good mood. She was actually rather bored at the moment though, and was searching for something interesting to do. As she walked, the window of a Quidditch shop, with a few interesting looking things on display. Maddie looked over, and grinned slightly.
A small bell above the door trinkled, once Maddie walked inside the shop. She looked around, and noticed that it wasn't very crowded at all, which was good, because she hated being in large crowds. She started looking around at the many brooms for sale, needing a new one. She actaully didn't need a new one, but she still had a Nimbus 2001, and she figured, if you have the money, you might as well buy it. She liked a few styles, but she still wasn't quite sure which one she liked best. She wasn't on her house team, but she was planning on maybe trying out this year, although, she just played Quidditch with her friends and family. She walked over to the robes, and books, deciding that she would come back to the brooms later. Other than that, she didn't actually know what exactly she was looking for, so she just browsed around for a bit.
((Wow, sorry, when I was typing this, I expected it to be a lot more than this.))

Jack motioned to the door which meant that Bobby, his servant, was dismissed. He walked out doubtfully, still wishing to tell Jack that he was doing the wrong thing. Jack smirked at his retreating back, knowing perfectly well that he was going to be in immense trouble if he got caught. Why did everything have to have an if in it? Jack shook his head, mentally get rid of all the cluster of annoying thoughts that racked his brain today. They weren't worth his trouble, so why even dwell on them? Taking out a pen and a piece of parchment, Jack focused on the more troubling problem he had to face. Today, he wished to get out and about from the house, but his father would be returning shortly, and he knew that Roger Rendel would not be willing to let his son go on his own. So, the only solution to this problem was to leave when Roger wasn't home. He lifted the uncapped pen to the parchment and began to write, pausing here and there to think of the right words.
Father, I do hope that you will understand my notions here as I sit in the kitchen, writing this. Today is a beautiful day to be doing some school shopping and, as I'm sure you noticed, I'm running short of supplies. School is going to start quite soon, although it may not seem that way. Also, I better do my shopping now for the prices will be lower this time of year. I do hope you understand thoroughly my thinking on this and that you will allow me to take leave of the house. I didn't want to bother you, for I know that you are awfully busy at work, so instead I'm writing this to explain it all to you. Please do not be upset Father, and if so, Bobby had nothing to do with it. I will be back shortly.
Your son, Jack Rendel
Jack looked down sufficiently at his work. He was very pleased of his excuse this time. School shopping had been the only thing he could think of that would not make his father a storm of rage. He placed the note carefully on the counter-top so that when his father came home it would be in plain view. Jack let his smirk stay on his lips as he walked out of the room to see Bobby standing there. "I told him you had nothing to do with this." Jack said in a don't-push-it manner. "Thank you, Sir." the servant replied and Jack noticed a hint of relief in his voice. "You will not move the note to any place." "Yes, sir." Jack liked Bobby for many reasons. One, because he made for a good servant and friend. Two - he understood Jack's thinking and would never betray an order. Jack gave him a stern look before letting the smirk turn into a faint smile. Grabbing a nearby pair on sunglasses, Jack walked out the door.
Diagon Alley was one of Jack's favorite places to go. Besides Hogwarts, that is. Jack let his eyes rove over the random shops and found that the rested on the Quidditch supply shop. The broom stick's handles were gleaming in the ray of sunlight that filtered through the glass. Jack eyed them, fingering the coins in his pocket. His other broom, a Nimbus 2001 had just broke cleanly in two the other day and the Firebolt really did look rather tempting. A swing of jealousy took over Jack's mood as he remembered Padme's long speech on how she was given her own Firebolt by Dixie Holden. Reaching a conclusion, Jack walked into the shop quickly before he could change his mind. After this, he would probably go to Florean Fortescue's and lounge there while eating great ice-cream. That would make for a good hour perhaps. Then, he would move on to school shopping, which he really needed to do. The bell tinkled over the door, which brought Jack's mind back to the present. He instantaneously moved over to the Firebolt and longingly took out the money he would need. He was just about to turn and walk to the counter when he saw a familiar figure standing a few feet away from him.
"Ah, hello Maddie," Jack said in a voice that sounded very unlike his own. Today he was rather cheerful. He was going to get his own Firebolt and brag about it to a annoyed Padme but also because he had gotten away from the house for a bit. Jack let his face sport a faint smile, but didn't let it become to big, for smiles weren't taken very well with Slytherins.
((No worries.))

Maddie looked up to see Jack Rendel. Jack was one of Maddie's friends, and fellow Slytherins, that she hadn't seen in a while. Maddie gave him a quick, small smile, and greeted, "Hello Jack. Haven't seen you in a while." She then moved back over to the brooms, which were just a couple of feet away from where she had been standing. She thought that the Firebolt looked the most handsome, and it probably went pretty fast as well. Although, she still didn't exactly know what one she wanted yet.
Maddie turned back to Jack and asked, "So, how has your summer been? Mine's been pretty boring and dull, but that's how they usually are."

Jack returned the smile Maddie gave him. He nodded when she said that she hadn't seen him for a while. For a long while, actually. He thought back to the last time he saw her. Hogwarts, it was. The end of the year. To tell the truth, Jack didn't see many people over the summer. Just Padme, Mack and Fiona. He smirked casually. He was so used to having this expression on his face it usually was just there. He hoped Maddie wouldn't take any offense to it. Jack watched her walk over to the Firebolt. He knew that Maddie must be shopping for brooms as well. He leaned back on the heels of his feet. Jack had decided that he would be buying a Firebolt from this place. It was the best broom ever and the National Quidditch League used it as well. So why shouldn't Jack have it?
"Mine's about the same as yours. Boring and dull. I've been stuck in Rendel manor almost all summer with only my father and the servant to keep me company. Not what I call enjoyable." He threw a laugh out in his conversation. It wasn't like it was funny but he just felt the need to laugh at his misfortune. In truth, the best part of the summer had been with Mack. He wasn't about to tell Maddie what had happened between the two of them. He wasn't even sure if it had actually been real. Jack frowned as this thought actually took place. What if it hadn't been real? A dream perhaps? He waved these annoying thoughts away just so he wouldn't start believing them. "Seen anyone this summer from Slytherin?" he asked casually.

Maddie listened to Jack answer her question about his summer, and asked if Maddie had seen anyone from Slytherin this summer. Actually, she had seen a lot more then she expected. "Yes, actually I have seen quite a few..." she replied. "Well, I saw Mack, a while back, Fiona O'Reilly, Trinity Jade, and I've actually just met your sister." she said, with her eyebrows slightly raised. "I met her when I went on a trip to Rome, a couple of weeks ago. Well, Padme isn't a Hogwarts student yet, but you have to admit, she would make a great Slytherin." she finished, with her eyebrows raised slightly, and a bit of a small smile. She was right, from what Maddie had heard, and seen when she had met Padme Rendel, Padme was one of those unsorts, that was already acting like a great Slytherin. "So, what about you? Have you seen any house mates?" she asked, in somewhat along the lines of the same manor that Jack had asked her. She knew that he had most likely seen Mack, after all, the two were best friends. That was actually had Maddie fully met Jack, through Mack. ((Sorry, short again, but I was in a rush, so I had to type really fast. ))

Jack nodded when Maddie started to talk about who she had seen this summer. It was actually about the same people Jack had seen. He smirked when then Maddie went on to talk about Padme. He chuckled slightly; Padme's attitude toward others always made him laugh. He was actually surprised that she had seen her, mostly on a trip to Rome. Jack found his jealousy rise again: It seemed like Padme was having a much better summer than he was. He frowned at his envy but kept his face in check. "Oh, you've met Padme, have you? Did she make a grand entrance or what not when she first talked to you?" Jack asked, slightly amused at Maddie's expression. "I met her only a while back. You know, she was my long lost sister that I never knew I even had. I was with Mack then and Padme seemed to get the best of her. Or, should I say, worse." he smirked at Maddie wondering if she had heard the tale. "Mack lost control and slapped Padme right across the face. And then, the two were on friendly terms ever since. Odd, eh?" he grinned rather foolishly but he loved recounting that time. Padme was an odd one indeed. "Yes, she'll make the perfect Slytherin." He paused, thinking, and then said something he had been musing over for the past three weeks. "She's much different from me, isn't she? Attitude wise?" He shook his head, knowing himself that it was rather true. Except for occasional out bursts, Jack held his temper in check almost all the time. He was glad when Maddie asked the same question.
"Well, Padme, of course. Mack..." he thought back, trying to remember who he had been with. "Oh, yes. Fiona, except that wasn't the best of times to meet and...that's all, I think. Can't really remember much." he shrugged and self consciously ran his fingers through his hair. "That's how boring my summer has been. Can't even remember what I did." he laughed carelessly. He wondered if Maddie sometimes felt the same way. That when something was extremely boring you would suffer from short-term memory. He frowned at the thought but just blinked it away. "So, what brings you to Diagon Alley? School shopping?"
