Padme walked out of the house and into the bright sunshine, her face screwed up against the light. It was unusually bright for early morning, but what did Padme care? She waved at Cameron, who was in the house, calling her name. She saw his face purple as he looked out the window and saw her waving at him. Padme watched as his mouth opened and closed; she couldn't hear a word he was saying considering the window was closed. She smirked at him while sticking out her tongue and turned her back on her step-dad. As Padme walked farther away, she realized that when she went back home she would be in trouble with him. That's all right. I'm not afraid of someone like him. I'm better than him and I deserve to get what I want. Padme sniffed at the air as a sudden smell wafted through the air. She stopped to smell it, trying to guess what it was. She figured it out in a few moments; bacon. Padme held her nose as she walked past the breakfast shop; she hated bacon. Once past it, she could breath freely through her nose. Taking on a brisk walk, Padme rounded a corner and started down the street.
Today, she was going to busy herself in Diagon Alley, the only place she could find witches and wizards. She quickened her pace and noticed the Leaky Cauldron come into view. Muggles were walking past it without seeing, and Padme, feeling satisfaction that she was not one of this people, entered the pub. It's always rather smelly in here. They should clean it more often. I always hate it when I bump into people! She thought as she ran into an odd looking wizard with a mustache. "Excuse me, but you're in my way!" she said loftily as the man looked down at her. Padme was rather small for her age, and this wizard seemed awfully tall. The result was Padme had to crane her neck to get to see the top of his head. She eyed him warily as he looked down at her. He moved out of the way after a few minutes of staring and Padme continued on her way.
Diagon Alley was already full of people bustling around. Since the school year was almost over, there weren't many students in the crowd. Padme sighed; she had hoped to meet some other Slytherins so she could get an idea what she is expected to be like. She also wanted to meet people like herself so she had friends at school. Seeing a few students in the midst of adults, Padme decided not to go walk over to them. Someone would probably trample me... She thought dully as she made her way through the crowd. Padme's favorite shop was the Quidditch shop. She walked over there, glaring at a few people who happened to get in her way. Today, Padme had let her brown wavy hair down instead of in the usual bun. Her honey-brown eyes scanned the area, as she entered the shop. Some people were gathered around a broom displayed in the corner, and as Padme made her way over there she noticed it was a Firebolt. She pushed a few of the kids out of the way, while the adults looked at her with disapproval. She glared at them too, before pushing herself to the front of the crowd so she could get a good view. Soon, they all went away (Padme kept on stepping on the feet on purpose) and Padme had the whole shop to herself. At least, for a few quiet minutes she did, until the shop door opened.

"Maybe I should buy a broom," Dixie Holden stated dully as she looked through 'Witch Weekly', those brooms were beginning to appeal to her. The younger Holden, Mack, simply rolled her eyes at this and threw the shirt she had been looking at- onto the bed and picked up another; holding it to her to see what she would look like when she wore it. Dix laughed and stood up, going through the shirts herself- "Simmer down, Mack, every-thing's going to go fine tonight. No worries, yeah?" Dix handed her a pink floral top and a black skirt with a pink ribbon around it. Mack was worried about her date she had tonight- for some reason she was starting to go out a lot more. Mack looked at the top and nodded, "Thanks." She said with a smile before she disappeared behind the divider.
Dix sat back down on her bed and looked through the magazine again. Five minutes later, Mack stepped out from behind the divider, tugging at her skirt. Dix looked up and smiled; "You look....picture perfect! Wait till Jonathon feasts his eyes on you!" She exclaimed with so much enthusiasm for her sister. Mack smirked and tugged at the skirt again- apparently she wasn't used to wearing skirts- or off the shoulder tops. Dix laughed and went back to her reading. Ten minutes later- Mack had left and Dix was on her way to Diagon Alley. When she arrived it was rather busy and there seemed to be an out-pour from the Quidditch Shop. Dix smiled and headed over there, like she wanted it to be crowded anyway.
As she entered the Quidditch shop, Dix looked and hoped it to be empty. She was wrong- and she saw the reason for the sudden evacuation. A little first year stood admiring the Firebolt, she seemed to be a brat and Dix already liked her. You could just tell by the way she stood and by the way she held her head high. Dix liked that about people- even if they were mudbloods or mutts. Dix walked over to the girl and said in a smooth voice, "All vermin been terminated? I suppose you are the terminator, am I correct?"

Padme looked up to see who had walked in. It was a girl a lot older than her, maybe about five or six years difference. Padme didn't turn, but she could tell that the girl was walking over to her. She could hear her shoes making contact with the ground close to her. Padme smirked at the girl's comment.
"Yes, vermin terminated. Me? A terminator? Well, that's sounds about right. I suppose that means I should terminate you as well?" Padme eyed the girl warily, her honey-brown eyes cold and pitiless. "Am I right?" Padme sneered as she turned to face the girl. She wondered who she was; she didn't look like anyone she had seen before. Padme held her head high, trying to make herself taller. It proved useless, though, but Padme's high-heeled shoes did come in use. Padme smirked up at the girl, wondering what her reaction would be to her words.

Dix's mouth dropped open in mock shock and surprise; "Well well well, this bit's got some bite." She said as her shocked surprised face turned into a smile. Dix studied this girl and realised who she was staring at. This was the infamous Padme Rendel, the little ickling that Mack had run into while in Diagon Alley. Damn, Mack gives good details to the end of the stick! She described her perfectly! Dix thought with another smirk. She stuck out her hand, waiting for her to shake.
"Dixie Holden, Slytherin fifth year- bloody hell not vermin." She introduced herself with a malicious twinkle in her chocolatey brown eyes. Most would cower at that twinkle- but Dix had a feeling that this girl wouldn't cower. This girl was stronger than that, and one hell of a Slytherin if she made Mack's blood boil. Dix wondered what this little girl would do to her.

Padme raised her eyebrows at the girl as she pretended to be surprised. Her harsh eyes gazing at the girl. She took her hand slowly, glaring at the girl with all the malice she could muster. The girl introduced herself as Dixie Holdon a Slytherin fifth year. Padme's smirked. "I'm guessing that your sister told you all about me, right? Since I'm so popular." Padme swished her hair as if she was a model. "So, are you just like Mack? I'm guesing it runs in the family to have a protecter. You're Mack's big protecter, who's yours? Is it your mummy or your daddy?" Padme sneered, her eyes flashing. She noticed something else in Dixie's eyes, which only made Padme excited. She loved getting into people's skin. It was much fun.
"Are you sure you're not vermin? A name doesn't matter much, does it? As for being a Slytherin fifth year, I'm going to be a Slytherin first year." Padme said the last bit with pride. "I'll be seeing you a lot more. Isn't that great, Dixie? I'll always be around, even though you're older. Where's Mack anway? I miss her. She always fights back." Padme gave her a small smile, but it told Dixie that she didn't trust her.
"By the way, which category do you fall into? Mudblood, halfblood, or, dare I say....mutt?" she gave her a frown, her eyes cold.

Dix smirked at this little girl, "I wouldn't exactly say popular. Hated is more like it." She responded with a total lie. Mack was very fond of this younger girl- but Dix wasn't going to let Padme know that. Dix was an excellent liar, she never has gotten caught once- and she was using it to her advantage again. Dix rolled her eyes at Padme's next remark though; and she scrunched up her face- and her hands started trembling; "My mummy is my protector. I run to her when a thunderstorm happens." She said in a childish voice. Dix straightened her face and glared at the girl, "No one protects me- it's others who need protecting from me."
Dix draped her arm over Padme's shoulder, "Don't worry, pet, I'll rather enjoy your company. It's rare when there is a first year worth spending time with these days. So you'll be seeing just as much as me, as I will be you." She looked down at the eleven year old with the sincerest smile she could muster. Dix continued to speak, her arm still draped over Padme's shoulder, "Mack is on a big date, with Jonathon. You should have seen her getting ready- throwing her clothes everywhere, she was a mess! She's lucky to have a style coordinator living in the same house as her." Dix patted the top of Padme's head before adding; "And I bet she misses you too, pet."
She took back her arm and spun around, doing a quick belly roll before saying; "Mutt all the way baby. Though I am perfectly worthy of the title- I just like the sound of it. How about you, pet? Are you a mutt as well?" Dix raised her eyebrow at Padme and waited for her answer.

Padme smirked. "Well then, my work is done. Hatred was my main priority." she put a hand to her heart and breathed in deeply, as though her biggest dream was finally done. Padme laughed at the part about Dixie running to her mummy; she was starting to take a liking to this girl, but she wasn't about to show it. "I'm sure you do, Dixie. I'm sure you do." She laughed again and turned to face the girl with narrowed eyes as Dixie mentioned that people need protecting from her. "Are you threatening me?" Padme hissed as she glared at the girl. Dixie put her arm around her and Padme looked up at her. "I am no one's pet!" she said loudly, a smirk evident on her face. She looked at the girl as she said most first years aren't worth her time.
"I guess I'm just special, then." Padme said in her most innocent voice. She then smirked up at the girl. "Why, Dixie, I'm surprised at you! I would have thought first years would be a perfect target since you're so big and tough!" Padme sneered. "No, I am no mutt. I'm a pureblood, through and through." She paused and then added, "I didn't give you that option since I knew you wouldn't fall into that category." She smiled at Mack in a false sweet way.
"Mack's on a date?" Padme couldn't help but keep the surprise out of her voice. "But, I thought she fancied my brother!" She laughed. "I do hope this Jonathon character is no muggle." She added, her eyebrows raising. "I never thought Mack to be the one to get all fancy. I guess I don't know her to well, do I? All I know is she has no control over her emotions."

"Au contraire, you are my pet. I just need to get you a nice little collar and a bell, and you'll be the perfect little kitten." Dix said with a smile and pinch of Padme's right cheek. She giggled and twirled a strand of hair around her index finger, "And if I was threatening you, you would know it. I'm just making a promise." Dix winked and took a seat in the nearest waiting chair. She crossed her legs, letting her right leg bob up and down.
"Pish, first years aren't worthy targets. They aren't house-broken until they're at least second years." Dix told Padme with a twinkle in her eye saying she didn't think that about her, but it was evident dix despised firsties. When Padme seemed surprised that Mack was on a date and said she fancied Jack, Dix looked at her nails leisurely and said in a calm voice:
"Oh, she does fancy Jack. No worries there, pet. She just doesn't realise it yet. Now- what do you say we buy this broom here and take it for a spin, yeah?" She brushed the Mack liking Jack topic aside and looked at this first year.

Padme smiled at the girl; she was really starting to like Dixie. She smirked and gave Dixie a look. "Fine, you can call me pet, if you wish, and I'll call you big sis', does that sound good to you?" Padme laughed. She liked the sound of big sis', and if Dixie didn't like that, then she would have to deal with it. She laughed about Dixie's joke but noticed that she didn't mean Padme. Padme smiled at her and then sat down beside Dixie. She looked at her with interest. "You think?" Padme was going to ask more, but Dixie pushed the subject away by asking if Padme wanted to have a go on the broom.
"You mean it? Really? The Firebolt?" Padme tried to keep the excitement out of her voice, but she knew that it would she through her usually hard eyes. She started tapping her foot on the floor; hoping Dixie would buy the broom and really take her on a ride.

Dix smiled at Padme, "Big sis is fine. Just don't expect me to teach you how to use the cat box, kay?" This caused Dix to laugh only slightly. Padme was someone else intirely. Dixie could never be like this with Mack, no matter how close they got now- there wasn't going to be anything there that could be filled within the younger years of Mackenzie's life.
"Oh, believe me I know. Mack talks about him non-stop- get's annoying really. Whenever I say 'you like him more than a friend and you know it' she simply looks at me like I'm insane and walks off annoyed. A sure sign she is pondering it." Dix smiled at Padme, and then put a finger to her lips, "But not a word to your brother about this, clear?" Mack would slaughter her if Jack found out.
Dix's eyebrow raised slightly and she smirked, "No- the cleansweep. Yes the firebolt, c'mon. I was going to buy one for me- but since you are so much more important than I shall ever be." Dix stood up and headed over to the counter, she pulled out her money and counted out hte correct amount. "We'll be taking the firebolt please- unwrapped, thank you." She handed the money to him and smiled that sweet innocent smile. The wizard nodded and headed towards the firebolt- taking it out the window display, and handing it to Padme.

Padme smirked at Dixie. "Don't worry - I can learn on my own." She was glad that Dixie had agreed to the Big Sis name; Padme had always wanted an older sister. Dixie came close enough to one. Jack was one thing, but it would be really nice to have a big brother and then a friend/sister. Padme smiled up at Dixie. She grinned at her when she said that she knew that Mack likes Jack.
"I would tell you if Jack liked her, but I don't even know him well enough to say anything. Maybe I can get it out of him sometime; we might be meeting here again. If he does, I'll make sure to tell you." Padme smirked; she knew that she could get it out of Jack. It was a natural talent of her's to get something that she wanted. "No worries, my lips are sealed." Padme told Dixie with a small laugh. Padme could almost never keep her mouth shut, but she would try this time. Her mouth dropped when Dixie said something that meant she would be giving it to Padme.
"What?! You're giving it to me?" Padme asked, utterly bewildered as the man handed her the Firebolt. Padme had never been given a gift like this; her mom had to work for money and Cameron was just a lazy man who stayed at home. Padme swallowed and looked up at Dixie, her eyes wide. Then, she remembered a certain rule of Hogwarts. First years can't have brooms. "But- you really- I don't..." she stumbled over her words, unsure what to say. "Really, I don't..... is it really mine?" Padme asked as she fingered the handle lightly.

Dix's eyebrow raised ever so slightly; "My dear dear Padme, you don't seem to understand. Even if Jack doesn't like Mack, she would never tell him she likes him. Mack's too prideful. If you do find out if he likes her or not, though, do tell me- it's the use of some rather large teasing material." Dix winked at Padme. Dix had a feeling that Padme would drag it out of her brother- whether he realised it or not. Dix had met Jack once; he had stood up for Mack when Dix had insulted and belittled her- that was one thing that Dix liked about the boy; he was loyal to his friends.
Padme now was speechless that Dixie had given her such a gift, as if she had never recieved something as nice. Dix raised her eyebrow at the girl- but smiled anyway and said with a smirk, "No. I have every intention of getting it back. So don't get too attached to it. Yes. It's yours. You can name it and teach it tricks and everything. Just don't break it- because I won't get you another one." Dix spoke with a sneer in her voice. She opened the door and motioned for Padme to exit the shop.

Padme tilted her head away from Dixie, her eyes shut. "I don't know. I guess we can only find out, can't we?" Padme opened her eyes and smirked at Dixie; she was trying to get over having a firebolt. Her mom would have given her one a of these a long time ago, had not Roger kept all of the money the two had shared. Padme shifted, holding the Firebolt carefully.
"No need to worry over a broken broom, Big Sis'." Padme said softly, her eyes fixed on the broom. "Unless I feel the need to hit someone over the head with it; it won't be damaged." She smirked at Dixie before turning sharply and going through the door. "Where to? Do they even let people fly brooms around here?" Padme asked, looking down the street, glaring at people who happened to be staring at the broom she was holding.

“I don’t think I like that look you have on your face, Padme. It looks almost evil.” Dix said with a wink and a smile. She stepped out and covered her eyes with the sunglasses she had brought with her. Where would they fly? There wasn’t a strip around there, and she was almost positive Diagon Alley wouldn’t want them flying around in the alleyway. She sighed and looked towards the sky, clouds were gather over head and she nodded as if confirming some thoughts.
“We’ll have to get out of Diagon, but I don’t want to leave just yet. Shall we hit the ice-cream parlour; then the coffee shop, then maybe some other shop. Then we shall go back to your house and fly that baby.” Dix said as she headed towards the ice-cream parlour. It wasn’t unlike Dix to invite herself to someone’s house. She just hoped Padme wouldn’t throw a large fit like Mack used to.
