It was algid the weekend Elina had decided to make an appearance in Diagon Alley. She had made sure to keep tepid as she wandered the empty streets aimlessly in hopes of finishing her days errands before sun-down. Her mother had sent her some money so she could buy the required items that she needed for school immediately. Elina was an apprehensive lady, she did things when they were to be done and did them correctly. When she was growing up, her mother never had to tell her twice to clean her room...no matter what Elina had been doing, she set it aside and went up to do the chore that she had been commanded to do without question.
Being obedient payed off for Elina; she now had no problem with completing assignments on time, or doing something right when it needed to be done. It was a formidable habit that she knew she needed to break because, there were times when she acted like she was an adult. Elina rarely partied, she was a very docile and ambivalent girl who kept to herself as most docile and ambivalent girls did. When her friends invited her out, Elina would always politely decline the invitation and stay in her room reading a book to her liking. She blamed her parents for making her this way, if they had made her arrive at parties that were held in the houses along her street she would be much more social.
As she was still in a reverie, Elina didn't realize she had been walking in a circle the whole entire time. Some passerbys were staring at her as if she was completely insane. She knew she was blushing and she made her way to the Leaky Cauldron, trying to get away from the arctic air that had been seeping through her clothing to chill her fragile bones. As she pushed open the monumental oak door, she noticed her fingers were purple from being so cold. She stepped inside, rubbing her hands together so she could try and get some circulation back in her fingertips, and was greeted by a warm fulmination of air.
Elina welcomed the heat with a smile and closed the door behind her, that was letting a few drops of snow that was newly fallen into the pub. She took off her blue scarf and draped it on a stool, after she sat down to the one beside it. She placed her purse on the stool with her scarf and leaned her elbows on the bar-counter. Elina ordered a butterbeer and looked around the Leaky Cauldron, her blue eyes scanning for anyone she knew. No one relatively familiar came to eye so she turned her attention to the pictures behind the counter that were placed diligently on the wall. They were images of witches and wizards crowding around what seemed to be the new Leaky Cauldron. Some were waving, others were holding mugs of butterbeer and fire whisky in their hands. But, they all had one thing in common, they were all very happy.
Her butterbeer then arrived and she took it with a smile and a nod towards the bartender. Her hands curled around the warm liquid and their circulation suddenly sprang back to life. She could feel her warm blood coursing through her veins and smiled at the feeling of being alive once more. Elina brought the mug to her lips and took a sip, as to not burn her tongue, then she placed it on the countertop, but didn't take her hands off of the glass, for fear of becoming cold once more. She was about to take another sip when the oak door opened once more and in stepped a student that Elina thought looked familiar, maybe she had seen her somewhere before. If she had, then maybe the student would come and talk to Elina...or would she have to make conversation?

Mia was walking down the streets of London. It was quite busy with the cars moving by her and honking their horns, sort of like New York. She had visited there once to see the Kentucky Derby. But that was so long ago she only had a faint memory of what the place looked like. All she could remember where pretty horses running on the track with people on their backs. Mia once wonted to be a jockey and told her father over and over again. Until that dream faded once he left the family. David Fleming was on the Olympic England team and had one of the top horses in the United Kingdom, named Pegasus. The two were un-stoppable and won almost all of there three day events. But it was the final day and the only event left was stadium jumping. Pegasus was a little tired from the Cross country the day before but he gave it his all. Then rain started to come down on the earth, but the show was still on. After watching the other riders go first David felt a little uneasy. They had fast times and a couple faults but he believed in his horse. When it was her fathers turn it was alright at the beginning. Until the final two jumps was the only problem. It was a combination jump, which is two jumps close together and a horse has to make one or two steps between. Well Pegasus jumped it wrong and he tripped over the jump sending his rider into the one before. Luckily David only came out parlayed but was still in shame and left the family.
Still walking down the streets Mia tried to push back the thoughts of her father. It wasn’t the right place and time to think about him. But a question always lay in the back of her head, "Why did he have to leave?" She would always ask herself. Marion never talked about her husband ever again and her grand father didn’t either. He would call him a stupid boy and hated him for breaking his daughter’s heart. The only person who she seemed to talk to where Scout, Amanda, and Ty. The three people were her best friends and she couldn’t get on with out them. They were always there when she needed them and Mia didn’t know what she would do if she never came out of her depression. A faint smile apeared on her lips as she struggled to push back her mother image. It was like when ever she closed her eyes she could see her mom. She could see her mothers flowing brown hair, light brown eyes, and tall fragile smiling at her. It always brought tears to Mia’s eyes as she remembered her mother. Looking up into the cloudy sky she held back the tears. Her brown eyes sparkled more than ever as she tired to think if her mother was watching her or not. Lou and Grandpa said that she was and was part of Mia, but she really had no clue. But is her mother was part of her than why couldn’t she feel her presence? Mia had too many questions to ask and never asked them. Heck she never told anyone about her family much. Only Jasmine was the person who she could trust. The fifth year was almost like a kitten soft on the outside and soft on the inside with playful side. A smile came onto Mia's face as she thought of her friends.
The winds than picked up and blew at Mia. Her brown hair was now flying rapidly in the wind. Starting to run she felt something hit her check lightly. Like snow almost. Looking up into the sky she saw swirls of snow dancing back to the ground. Mia wondered what a snow flake looked on the outside. Maybe the paper ones she really didnt know. Opening her mouth she let some snow hit her tounge and she smiled. It was one of her tradions to taste the snow and try to catch it on her tounge. Feeling some what lifted she continued down the streets. Looking from house to house she wated for the Leaky Cauldren to come up. Mia had to get to Diagon Ally to buy more books and buy Quidditch supplies. Also she wonted to see if she could buy an owl. Searching her pocket she found a sack of money and knew it was allot. All of her hard work lay in that tiny bag. All the the horses she cured and made lifes better for where in that bag. Smiling she put the sack back in her front coat pocket and opened the door to the Leaky Cauldren.
A blast of warm air greeted her as she entered the warm cozy pub. She could see that some people were reading new papers and books and other just talking. Walking up to the front of the pub she leaned on the counter top waiting for some one to ask her what she wonted. Taking off her hat and scarf she shoved it into her shoulder bag. Just than some one came up to her, a lady wearing an old style dress and curly blonde hair. "Wha' would yea like miss?" She asked in a Scottish accent. Smiling Mia opened her mouth, "May I take one hot chocolate please." She asked and waited as the waitress filled her mug up with hot chocolate. Mia waited patiently and looked around the room. People were scattered every where and she never realized it had this much business on the weekends. Normally Mia spent her weekends in the Gryffindor common room writing poems and journal entries. "Here yeah are miss. Would yeah like anything else?" Mia heard the waitress say with a smile. "No thank you." Mia said in reply and walked towards the brick walls.
Holding her mug in her hands she took in the heat coming form it. Her finger turned red from being outside and her face was red from the bitter cold. Shivering slightly she took a sip. The warm substance flowed down her throat and soothed her a bit. Moving her head as her hair fell away from her face and she smiled as she saw some one she knew. It was Elina Hill a sixth year Ravenclaw who was quite shy. Maybe she would like to go shopping with her. Walking over towards the girl with a welcoming smile on her face she stopped in front of her and took a sip of her hot chocolate. "This is so good and it’s so cold out there. So what are you doing here on the week ends?" Mia asked and wrapped her fingers more over her mug.

Elina had finished her butterbeer by the time Mia had acknowledged her. And she was rather blithesome that the older girl had decided to strike a conversation instead of Elina having to. That would be appalling. What would she say? And how would she say it? It was too much for Elina to surmise. Her mind was made up long ago, that she would never, under any circumstances, start a conversation that she had no idea what to talk about. Of course, there was always the attainableness of talking about books, but even that grew tiring after awhile.
"Hello Mia, it is rather brisk out isn't it? Well, I suspect I'm out on the weekend because, I seemed to have run out of school supplies. So, where better than Diagon Alley to restock on them, right?" Elina answered with a swift flick of her wrist and a brush of a curl out her eyes. She smiled at Mia and strummed her fingernails lightly on the countertop. Silently humming, "The Phantom Of The Opera" from the musical, "The Phantom of The Opera." It didn't take much talent to hum, but she couldn't for the life of her sing it. Her lips curled into a small smile as she looked at Mia once more and tucked some hair behind her ear, in which an earring dangled elegantly from.
"What about you? Wandering the streets of Diagon Alley, alone, in this algid air?" She reversed the question back to the Gryffindor with a smooth transition. Her feet were positioned with might on the stool's rings. Her heeled boots on the inside and the rest of her foot on the outside. The fire roared in the background and waitreses asked for orders and handed the orders to the customers. Elina couldn't help but, wonder why they had worked there, instead of somewhere else where it would be a much better living for them. Not that it really mattered, magic could give you about anything, but wouldn't it be a great feeling of achievement if you actually did something wonderful?
Elina often found herself thinking this, but she never voiced her thoughts aloud. What tragic that would be if someone else heard what she was thinking. Many people would think her weird, but she would normally brush that off and be herself, and if that was weird, then she was indeed weird. The waitress came and asked if they needed anything else, and Elina shook her head before taking up her things and putting them on. She turned to Mia, a warm smile on her face,"Would you like to join me?" She asked with a tilt of her head.

Mia smiled as the girl talked to her. Maybe Elina wonted to be her friend. That would be really cool because Mia did have a smart side but she would rather not use it at times. Sitting down in a Stoll next to the girl she started to spin in circles. Giggling as she turned back around on the slidly Stoll she grinned. "I always loved to spin in circles on these things. It’s a habit I can not break and an urge I must tend too." Mia said pulling her long brown hair up into a pony tail. She was tired of it getting into her face every single second. Mia than taped her finger nails on the counter. "Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da" She thought in her mind as she continued on taping the counter. It was a muggle fox chase song and Mia really liked it. Since she always did hunter jumping she went on some fox chases but not allot.
Stopping her taping she looked at Elina listening to her talk about why she was here on the weekends. It sounded like she was a Ravenclaw and loved to work on her studies. A warm smile spread across her face as she starred off into space wondering about her own future. Would she work in the wizarding world or the muggle world? She couldn’t do both so Mia had to chose. But it was such a hard decision. Mia loves her horses and she loved the new world she had been introduced too. Biting her lower lip she looked back at Elina with a look on her face that said she was utterly confused. "Sorry I just had a lot of my mind. This is my last year and I don’t know what to do with my life. I love the muggle world and working with horses than I also love the wizarding world. I am just confused at what my future might be." Mia said with a weak smile and took a sip of her hot chocolate.
The warm substance went down her throat soothing her a bit. Taking in a deep breath she exhaled and felt better. Finishing up the hot chocolate that was left she continued to listen to Elina as she hum something that sounded familiar. Maybe an opera or something. But Mia hated opera and like rock and pop music better. Than Elina asked why she was here also. Thinking for a minute Mia spoke. "Well I am going to buy some more Quidditch supplies. Maybe a new owl and some more books. Hey I might be a Gryffindor but I love to read. I also take it that you like to read also. Well of course you are a Ravenclaw. Ohh have you might Jasmine Anderson. She is nice probably because she is my only friend." Mia said and stopped herself before continuing on.
Finishing up her hot chocolate she set it down on the table and stood up from the Stoll. Stretching her arms out on front of her she yawned and looked at Elina who was asking her to join her. Mia's eyes grew wide and she felt happiness rush in her as some one asked her to come along. Controlling her egger she smiled and grabbed Elina's hand and walked up to the brick wall. Taking out her wand she taped certain placed and it magically opened up. Mia really didn’t know any other way to get into Diagon Ally but the brick wall. Looking from Elina and to the busy streets she felt even more egger. "Where too now? Flourish and Plots or Elopes Owl Inventory?" Mia asked walking into the busy streets.

Elina smiled nervously as Mia jerked her out of her seat and out of the pub, Elina had just enough time to pick up her purse and scarf before she was whisked out the pub and into the alleyway behind the Leaky Cauldron. She watched with patience as Mia tapped her wand in all the right places, the wall then began to dance in what would be elegant if an elephant could do ballet. Elina smiled as the wall opened wide enough to let the two girls through into the strenuous alley. Elina always loved the feeling of business in the air when she took her trips to Diagon Alley. It reminded her of New York City, in the United States.
As she entered the busy alleyway, Elina looked around at all the shops, which remarkably were overflowing with customers, even at this time of year. Customers poured out of the doors, like bees out of a hive. Parcels with strings tied around them, towering in the customer's arms, threatening to fall but, never doing so. The sun beat down on the top of Elina's head, but it was still rather cold out so she tightened her coat around her as they continued to make their way to the middle of the Alleyway. She pulled out her list and looked at the first missing item. Quills and Ink, Elina read to herself, where would I get that? Eyelops is an owl emporium. Flourish and Blotts is a book store. Mullpepper's is a potion store. Slug & Jiggers Apothecary, yes! They sell Quills and Ink! Elina stuffed the paper back in her pocket and linked arms with Mia.
"To Slug & Jiggers Apothecary, we go." She explained with a saccharine smile and her blue eyes effulgent. They made their way through the regiment of witches and wizards to get to the store that was stationed next to Quality Quidditch Supplies. It was one of the few stores that weren't crowded with customer's and by being the only store in Diagon Alley to buy Quills, Ink, and Parchment you would think it would be the most crowded. As Elina pushed open the door, a little bell jingled in the distance and it made her jump slightly. She laughed at herself before entering the rest of the store and looking around. It was a small store, with shelves lined against the walls with elegance. On the shelves sat quills, ink, and parchment. Envelopes, velvet thongs that held a piece of rolled parchment in case you were beyond using envelopes. This was the store that Elina needed to search for all of her material items. Books and other sorts of things would have to go to a muggle store for, unless Flourish and Blotts carried Charles D ickens's works. But, she highly doubted that bit of curiosity.

Mia steeped into the busy streets of Diagon Ally. Her brown eyes sparkled more than ever as she looked around at the many stores. This will be her last time shopping for supplies. It would be hard for Mia to give up Hogwarts since she had been doing this for almost seven years. A hurt look spread across Mia's face as she looked at each and every store. Walking past Olivanders a smile spread across her lips. She remembered that day like any other when she got her first wand. Mia could remember herself at the age of ten walking into that store and looking at Mr. Olvindanar with a cherry smile. He did not notice her because her family was muggle born, there weren’t any witches or wizards in the Fleming family Mia never knew of. Well the first one she tired did not work since it broke the front glass of the store. But than the second wand was prefect. Mia could feel how she felt when she held her wand for the very first time. It was like floating on water almost with a light breeze. All Mia did was grin as she remembered her first year at Diagon Ally.
Continuing down the streets she looked at Elina wondering which store to go into first. She had made some suggestion on which stores she wonted to go into. But she did not want to go into a potion store. It reminded her of Sanpe to much and his bitterness against Gryffindors. Sighing she tucked a lock of brown hair behind her ears and looked off into the distance again. She could see many witches and wizards walking around carrying packages of sorts. Some carried owls and other carried books. It was all exciting for Mia and all she could do was watch as people went by her. Another large smile spread across her face as she searched her shoulder bag for some gum. When she was walking down the streets she stopped by a muggle store to collect some candy. Like twizlers, jaw breakers, mints, and gum. Mia loved gum and constantly chewed it when ever she got the chance. Taking out a stick of orbit gum she unwrapped it and started to chew. She chewed silently so she wonted disturb Elina. Some people didn’t like it when people smacked on gum and always opened their mouth as they chewed. Mia was one of those people and hated it when people never used good manners.
Just then she felt Elina link arms with her and take her into the Slug & Jiggers Apothecary store. As the two entered a bell rang softly and Mia looked at it. It was a red scarlet bell and looked quite pretty. Her brown eyes twinkled as she looked around the store. Many pieces of parchment were every where and many quills of all sorts of colors were all aliened on the self’s. Still next to Elina she waited for her to get her own things. Shopping for quills and ink wasn’t one of Mia's things. She would rather go to Flourish and plots and read the books. Even know Mia was a Gryffindor she made a fine Ravenclaw and many people asked if she was. But Mia didn’t know what house she was in and was quite confused on the matter. "Man it’s my seventh year and I still do not understand why I am in Gryffindor" Mia thought in her mind and smiled at Elina. "So what do you need here?"

Elina smiled as she heard Mia say she didn't know why she was in Gryffindor, Elina knew perfectly well why she was in Ravenclaw, she hadn't a doubt in her mind that she wouldn't be in it. She remembered the day of the Sorting, the hat had told her rather quickly that she was intelligent and to herself, and placed her in Ravenclaw. She didn't find this as a surprise, and hugging her notebook to her chest, she had made her way to the table. Why Mia had been placed in Gryffindor, Elina could figure that out in a moment's notice. Elina didn't know Mia well enough to actually depict why she was a Gryffindor, but Elina knew her enough to tell she was brave and didn't care much what other's thought about her.
"Maybe you were placed in Gryffindor, because you are brave, stick up for your friends, you don't be little people, you're smart but, there are things you care more about than studying; like boys. You're loyal, but not to the point where if they hurt you, you'll still be there for them. You are a classic mixture of every house, you know when to be mad, loyal, smart, and brave. You don't go over the edge with anger, loyalty, and intelligence. But, your bravery stays the same." Elina answered with a small shrug, maybe she was wrong, though she had a feeling she was on the right track. She grabbed a few Quills and packages of parchments, and some ink pots, and made her way to the counter. The witch behind the counter rang up the merchandise, then Elina payed for it and turned back to Mia, a smile upon her lips.
"Take me for example; I'm a mixture as well, though I don't have a mean side. I am brave for me, if someone picks on me or my friends, I will stand up for them. I am intelligent and I know when to stop studying and I know when knowledge is too much power. I am loyal to my friends and my family, but those who I don't know, I can't promise anything. I was placed in Ravenclaw because, my knowledge consists of books and numbers. Your knowledge consists of bravery and love. If you had spent your whole life studying from the age of 5, you would probably be in Ravenclaw as well." She added in a knowing voice. She was surprised at herself for actually talking this much, it was something that Elina never did with someone she just met, but she felt she had known Mia forever. Mia was probably the closest friend she had made at Hogwarts, except for Ashley, but she was her sister; so that didn't necessarily count.
As they left the Apothecary, Elina eyed the rest of the shops. She needed to get a few books, but the muggle books were sure not to be there, she would have to dig up a few History books. Some about Hogwarts, some about the Triwizard Tournament, some about Merlin, and some about famous Witches. She just needed something to add to her collection of magical books. Her muggle collection was already a fair size larger than her magical collection, and in a way that was deeply sad. The sun was shining bright now, and it soothed Elina with a sense of warmth, she smiled with satisfaction and continued on her way to Flourish and Blotts, wondeirng if Mia was going to respond to her thoughts.

"I never really thought of it that way...." Mia said out loud rethinking about Elina response. It was quite impressive to her that this girl could think of it right off the bat. Most Ravenclaws could but Elina's had more depth into her comments than anyone else she knew did. That was a good thing and she sounded quite persuade and knew what she was talking about. Mia looked up to people like that, but now she had to make a good impression to all younger students. Since she was a seventh year know she only had a whole other year at Hogwarts. There were so many things she could do in the muggle world and wizarding. But it seemed like she didn’t know enough to actually function in this world. How could anyone live without knowing their surroundings? But Mia could catch on..... But it might take a while and a lot of time and hard work.
Flipping her hair over her shoulders she smiled up at Elina. This girl was an OK person and Mia needed more friends. Just last year she went through a depression and everyone seemed to not like that side of her, and stopped hanging out with her. But of course she went through it but was still scored for life. Who wouldn’t be? What she had been through was horrible and almost felt like dieing. But she couldn’t hold onto that feeling for ever and thanks to her friends she came out of it strong. A smile formed on her face as she looked at a red colored note book. It had gold cravings on it and seemed to shine with its glossiness. Walking over towards it she touched it lightly and smiled. It was the most beautiful thing in the world! Mia's brown eyes sparkled more and she took a deep breath and followed Elina.
Entering the busy streets again all Mia could think was that note book. She wanted it but didn’t quite have the money, you could say she was working class, but she rather keeps her money than spend it. Anyways she already had ten note books that were all waiting for the next part of her journey. Clearing her throat softly she looked all around her. There were so many shops that needed to be vested but not enough minutes on the day too. Snuggling more into her jacket Mia looked at Elina who had been quiet for the last few minutes. She didn’t mind that the girl was a little shy but right now she felt happy and ready to talk almost about anything. "You know your advice back there really helped. Before I was completely confused on whom I surely was and now that kind of help a lot. Thanks." Mia said in a thankful voice and turned her head and stopped as she saw a shop the two could go into. "Elina we have to go in here!" She said in an exited voice and grabbed Elina's hand and entered the Quidditch store with a big grin on her face.
