School was over, and this sadden Sadie more than ever. It meant that she had to return to that dreadful place that she hadn't even bothered straightening before leaving it last summer. Sadie wasn't so sure that she wanted to return there. She had been offered by a few friends to stay the summer with them, and Sadie told them that if she felt that she just couldn't stay home any longer, then she would owl them. She wanted to make sure that it was alright with them before she just suddenly dropped in. Sadie didn't feel right taking the invitations from her friends, but she knew they wouldn't have offered if they didn't truly care for her.
The train ride back to the muggle world wasn't as enjoyable as Sadie hoped it would be. She was beginning to dread her decision more and more every moment. She knew she had to return home even if just for a few days, so that she could get things there straightened, and hopefully find some other clues that her father may have left around her house as to where his family was from. She wanted to be sure that she wasn't the only Rivers left. She thought she had heard someone mention another girl at school named Rivers but then Sadie was sure she was just imagining that for she had yet to meet the other girl. Sadie had thought about the fact that if there was another girl with the same surname, then maybe, just per chance, they were related. That would make Sadie happy again. Sadie had thought of this most of the trip back to platform Nine and Three Quarters. She had barely spoken a word to any of her friends. She just couldn't shake the thought of what she had heard just before leaving school. If that girl and I are related, that would mean that she knows my father's family. But then if we aren't, it would be too painful to find out Sadie thought more and more of this as the trip went along. She really wanted to know if the girl was related to her father, and in turn to her. Sadie decided she would wait on trying to find the girl. The train was crowded as would be the platform, and Sadie stood better chances after the summer. Going home for a few days would be good for her, she knew this although her heart said it wouldn't. Sadie still needed to cope with everything, and had not yet forced herself to do so.
The train had pulled up to Platform Nine and Three Quarters just as expected, and right on time. Sadie couldn't believe this, but she wasn't sure why. The train was always right on time, never late or early. Sadie thought about the trip back to Hogwarts at the first of her second year. The train had been attacked, and Sadie was one of the lucky ones who didn't get hurt in the attack. It made Sadie think of what might happen on her way back to begin her third year. Sadie knew that what ever would happen would just have to happen, and she would have to hope for the best, but now was time to concentrate on home.
Sadie had a small amount of muggle money on her, which would mean that after a couple of days at home she would have to find a way to Diagon Alley to have more of her wizarding money exchanged, unless she decided to spend the rest of her summer there. Sadie only had made the one plan, return home. She would work through that before deciding on anything else. But what ever she decided would mean a trip to Diagon Alley before the school lists came. She would need more muggle money to stay in the muggle world, and if she decided to stay in the wizarding world, a room at the Leaky Cauldron would be required. Sadie sighed at the two thoughts, neither giving her the comfort she needed. Sadie suddenly realized what she needed was a friend, someone to stay with her the few days that she was going to be home. Why hadn't she asked one of her friends to help her with this? Why did she have to try to be so self sufficient lately? She should have known that she would have needed support while trying to clean and straighten her parents house back up. What if she came across some huge clue, like an address or something, who would be there to tell her she needed to check it out. Sadie couldn't figure out why she hadn't thought of this already. The beginning of summer was already turning out wrong.
