"Ingrid, honey, you were so excited to be doing this last year. Why aren't you excited this time?" Ingrid glanced at her mother sideways. Did she honestly just ask that question? Her whole summer had been ruined by that stupid hospital stay! Why would Diagon Alley make her anymore happier than Sita could? She loved spending time with her best friend, but even spending the whole day with Sita hadn't put her back into her hyper bubble. It was really weird to see the world through calmer eyes. She was still kind of happy, she'd been happier, but she wasn't hyper. Not like Aaron. Ingrid pushed some of her blonde hair behind her ear and crossed her arms across her chest. "Ingrid, please, be a bit more cooperative." She sent her mother another sideways glance and then turned on her heel while saying she would be around the Alley before leaving Flourish and Botts. Ingrid’s hair whipped behind her as she stepped outside into the windy afternoon. It wasn’t a good day, it was rather gloomy in fact. It reflected Ingrid’s mood almost perfectly. Lately she had been a little brat to her family, even Janine – who had burst into tears more than once over Ingrid’s attitude.
“Ingrid May Lewis! You get back here!” Ingrid turned her head to look over her shoulder, and saw her mother standing with her hands on her hips and Janine hiding behind her with tears welling in her eyes. Without responding, Ingrid continued down the alley. She could just see the look on her mother’s face. It was one of anger, but there wasn’t much she could do because she was afraid that whatever she said would hurt Ingrid emotionally. Mrs. Lewis went back inside with Janine following her, and Ingrid continued down the alley to the Leaky Cauldron where she figured she could order some water. She had enough money for that alone, and probably a sandwich as well. She pushed open the door and found an empty table, ordering a sandwich and a glass of iced water. She sat back, swinging her legs back and forth and looking out the window. When her sandwich appeared along with her water, she started in on that – not even aware someone had approached her.
