Well, it was again that time of year. Carols were being sung, egg nog was being passed out, misstle toe was being sold, and Maryn was upset? Wait, that couldn't be right! But, it was. For the first time in forever, Maryn Lively was not happy over the holidays. She usually giggled constantly, wore reindeer antlers, and and her red Christmas sweater. However, this year things were quite different. Maryn was in a bit of a slump. Being home with her strict parents was enough, but she also had to deal with all the family stuff. The note said the time was coming. It got to her somehow. It knew that it was the last thing she wanted to see. It wasn't true, Maryn would never fulfill what was said a young Livley girl would. Sure, she might have been brave, but she was weak. Maryn had been very frightened the day of the train attack. Didn't the stupid family prophecy know that? It seemed it didn't and Maryn continued to have her Christmas with bad memories.
Diagon Alley was finally open. Months ago, Maryn had be so eager to venture into the alley, but of course her parents wouldn't allow it. Now, she could go, but she didn't really want to. Maryn's parent's parents actually made her go! They knew of her condition and tried to cheer her up. They gave hr some gallons and she wearily set off to find some presents for her friends. Maryn didn't know what to get them, but she could figure out. She didn't have on her usual Gryffindor red but a simple white sweater and jeans. That's all she felt like putting on. Maryn gingerly made her way through the crowded alley trying to find a place to sit as she was already tired. Maryn found a bench and sat on it staring at the ground.

Mikayla woke happily, and in a very giving and cheerful mood. Mikayla was so excited for this Christmas she was going to go to Danielle Pewter's house. They were good friends. Mikayla got up out of bed, and ran to the bathroom to get a shower, and brush her teeth. When Mikayla was finished with that she got a towel and dried her hair. She picked out her clothes. She opened her droors and got her favorite maroon sweater with gold detail. Mikayla got her brush while looking in the mirror and parted her soft hair over to the side and put it into one long side braid. Mikayla was pleased so far. She put on her worn out jeans, and her brown flats with some little brown sequins on them. Mikayla made up her bed, and picked up her floor. She didn't want to leave a mess.
Mikayla pranced around the room trying to think of what to do next, she was very hyper. Mikayla got her little make-up bag and sat down in front of her full length mirror. She smiled at her appearance without make-up, but Mikayla thought she could use some on her eyes to bring out the brown tones. She reached for her eye-shadow, and opened it. Using the little brushes she applied some white eyeshadow at the tip above her eyelashes, and then put on gold the rest of the way above. Mikayla smiled as her eyes looked radiant and shimmered with the lighting in the room. She took her mascara, and applied some carefully to her eyelashes.
Mikayla hoped up. It was snowing outside, so she got her little white gloves and long white scarf. She got her cute brown sequined bag she had gotten for Christmas, and put her list of names of people she wanted to buy presents for. As she read through it carefully she saw the first name was her dear friend. "Maryn" Mikayla thought aloud. She hadn't seen her in ages it felt like. Up at the beginning of this year at Hogwarts they hung out alot, but they hadn't done much together since then. Mikayla smiled. "I wonder what she wants for Christmas?" Mikayla asked herself. Mikayla was more than excited to see what there was to get her. Mikayla was going to go to Diagon Alley and see what was there.
Mikayla got her bag and put on her scarf and gloves. She turned out her lamp and left down the stairs. She reached the door leading out of Hogwarts. She headed to Diagon Alley. When she arrived she was pleased to see what wonders she had heard about from her friends. She hadn't been there before. She saw little shops all with snow hanging beautifully everywhere outside. As she looked around in amazement her eye caught a glimpse of someone sitting on a bench. It looked just like.. "Maryn!" Mikayla shouted excited to see her friend. "What are you doing here?" "Wait, thats obvious." Mikayla laughed. Then she noticed Maryn wasn't in the happy go lucky mood she was normally in. "Whats wrong?" Mikayla asked as her smile faded.

Maryn gave out a weak smile when she saw Mikayla. "Hey, Mikayla." She said in a friendly voice. Maryn then looked at the ground, remembered that Mikayla was there and looked back up. "Oh, yea I'm just shopping." She said. Actually, Maryn hadn't done any real shopping yet. She had just arrived and was already tired and wanted to go home. Maryn held her sweater close as a breeze passed them. It was frigid outside and Maryn could even see a few snow flakes falling. Maryn looked at the little flake, gave it a small smiled like it was a person or something, and then looked back at Mikayla. She shrugged. "Oh, nothing." She said slyly. However, Maryn knew Mikayla wasn't stupid and wouldn't buy it. Maryn attempted to be happy many times however she found no one really believed her. It was funny actually how unconvincing Maryn really was.
She gave her fake smile again and then looked at Mikayla nicely. "So, I thought you were at Danielle's house." She said trying to change the subject. It was true, Mikayla had been so excited to be going there for Christmas and Maryn was glad she was happy. "So, what are you buying?" She asked trying to sound eager to know. However, Maryn knew the whole conversation was fake and just tried to make it sound as real as possible. It seemed impossible, but Maryn would try and make it seem true and not like a big fat lie.

"I know somethings wrong.." Mikayla said smiling and sort of nudging Maryn to tel her. "Yo know I'm here for you." Mikayla said smiling. "Oh, I am still at Danielle's house." We both wanted to get presents, for our friends." "And while we were at it we were going to get each other gifts." "So we split up to search for cute little trinkets for each other." Mikayla said smiling, but not boasting, or bragging in any way. "Well, I know what will cheer you up." Mikayla held out her hand waiting for Maryn to take it. "We're gonna shop till we drop sista!" Mikayla said laughing. Mikayla was trying really hard to make her friend happy. Even thought Mare was fake smiling, Mikayla could read her like a book. She knew all the fake smiles, or anything that Mare did when she was upset. "I'm going to cheer you up if it kills me!" Mikayla shouted jokingly waiting for a response from Maryn.

Maryn smiled feeling better already. Mikayla made her feel happy. She brought out a light in Maryn that shone brightly. Maryn was growing up, and was learning to deal with her problems better. "I'm okay and yes, I know." She assured her. For some reason Micky always cheered her up. She heard Mikayla talk about her and Danielle just splitting up for the day. "You both seem the identical twins lately." She joked. Maryn really felt better now. It was odd, she had only been talking to Mikayla for a second, but she already felt a bit better. The whole situation was weird. She had now sort of gotten out of the funk over the Train Attack. Now, she was focusing on her problems in general. Mainly, the whole ordeal with her family. The thing she was supposed to accomplish. It was something Maryn couldn't bare and it scared her greatly.
"What is that?" Maryn asked when Mikayla said she had something to cheer her up. She smiled when Micky said they would shop until they dropped. "Ok." She said nicely still sort of shyly. Maryn got off of the bench. "Don't you mean if it kills me?" She joked softly. Maryn couldn't help, but laugh. "Ok, so where do we shop first?" She asked with her hands on her hips.
