The day was cool and clear, but everything seemed askew. Though the sun was shining brightly off her messy free-falling hair, everything still seemed cold, and heavy. Hermione’s thoughts were clouded in the events of the previous term, as she walked the streets of Diagon Alley. She really didn’t know where she was going, she just had to get out of the house. She was dressed in jeans and a small t-shirt with the word “SMILE” on the front, though she couldn’t bring herself to do as the shirt suggested.
Her sneakers made little noise on the cobblestones of the street, her head was straight and her eyes focused ahead of her, though she really wasn’t seeing anything, merely moving distractedly through the few people who were shopping for one thing or the other. Everyone once in a while her eyes spotted a face and she felt uneasy, but she continued on. It wasn’t safe anymore, it hadn’t been ‘safe’ in some time now, and though she knew it was a risk to be walking in public alone, there she was.
She reached her hand in her pocket and played with the few wizard coins she had brought along, though she didn’t know why, she had no plans to buy anything. She stopped finally, in front of a quiet little shop on her left. It was a novelty shop with a juice and snack bar. She suddenly felt that she should get out of the street, and trusting her instincts, or her paranoia, she went in. She walked silently passed the clerk at the desk and went to an empty table in the back, out of sight. She pulled out a galleon and began to spin it between her finger and the table absently. She wanted to see Harry or Ron, anyone.

It had been another day of summer for Ginny Weasley. Another day spent in Fred and Georges joke shop staring out the window into the open streets of Diagon Alley. Ginny had made her self quite comfortable leaning up against the wall by the window just gazing at the customers who went by. Her long red hair was simply down with two strands of braids that sometimes went into her eyes. She was wearing faded out jeans and a red tee shirt mum had bought her a couple weeks ago. It seemed as if every witch and wizard were traveling in groups and pairs. Well it most defiantly wasn't safe to adventure off by yourself. Who knows where a Death Eater could be lurking the corner ready to strike. But being in Diagon Alley was a lot better than at home. Even know Ginny spent most of her time lounging around home working on summer homework the Professors gave out. Ginny never really mind, it was something to occupy her time with.
Ginny was deep in thought when she saw a familiar figure walk down the street. Standing up straight Ginny looked more carefully out the window wondering if it was who she thought it was. It was. Hermione Granger bushy brown standing out from the crowd. Ginny could spot her from a mile away but what was she doing by herself? Watching her round the corner Ginny turned around swiftly making her way to the back room. Fred and George were a bit busy helping customers so this could be her time to get out. Turning the numb to the back door Ginny poked her head out and looked both ways down the street. Nobody was there. Closing the door quietly behind her Ginny walked fast toward the street in the direction she saw Hermione go in. "Mum going to kill me if she finds out I left the shop without somebody..." Ginny mumbled under her breath making her way through the mobs of people trying to spot the brown bushy hair of Hermione.
Staying clear of some of the people around her Ginny looked all around making sure she would see if somebody was following her. She made that one mistake before and wasn't going to let it happen again. Stopping at a juice an snack bar as the door swung closed. Looking from left to right before entering Ginny stepped through the threshold and saw Hermione spinning a galleon at a back table. Ginny admittedly walked forward toward her friend stopping just an foot away from the table. "Hermione?" Ginny spoke her voice trailing off.

Round, and round and round the coin went against the wooden table. Hermione’s eyes never left its shimmering shape, as it spun. ‘Hermione?’ The sound of her own name startled her and she let the coin drop.
She looked up, “Ginny? Hi,” she said slowly, her heart slowing down at the sight of her friend. She forehead furrowed, “Ginny what are you doing here? Are you here alone? What would your mother say?” Hermione know all too well what had happened to Ginny, for it was Hermione who had found Parvati and had gotten the news that Ginny had been taken.
Though Hermione didn’t think Ginny should be walking around she was glad to see her. She stood and gave Ginny a huge hug, “Glad to see you Gin.” She looked around anxiously, “Sit down Ginny,” she told her calmly and resumed her seat. This had been a tough year all right, for Ginny especially. Ron, oh how her kidnapping had affected him, how it had affected them all. She dreaded to think what something like that happening again would do the them all. Ginny was like a sister to her.
“How have you been Ginny?” she asked trying to perk up her sombre mood.

Ginny's brown eyes watched as the coin stopped it spinning and landed on the ground by the startled Hermione. Taking her gaze away from the coin and back on Hermione Ginny listened to the series of questions shot at her. "I was just at Fred and Georges shop and saw you alone. Hermione you know its not safe to go around anywhere by yourself. So I followed. I think mum wont mind if I'm with you." Ginny began wondering if that really was true. Mrs. Weasley probably wouldn't be happy. Not probably wont be. But Ginny couldn't just stare at her friend go bye alone. What if something happened? Hermione than asked for her to sit down. Taking a seat Ginny looked at Hermione, her face looking more serious. "I'm just fine. What about you? Where you waiting for anybody?" Ginny asked hoping she didn't barge in on something that had been planned.

Hermione waited for, and got the answers to her questions. It seemed that it was Hermione’s fault that Ginny was out and about alone. “I know Ginny, but I had to get out of the house, I was going mad there. I know I no one should be out alone, but there was no one else to go with me. I couldn’t just call Ron or Harry and ask them to come to Diagon Alley, now could I? Harry should be more where it’s safe than I am,” she continued. She knew that Molly Weasley would be terribly vexed finding both Hermione and Ginny had been walking alone through Diagon Alley, with all the Death Eater activity. She could see Professor Dumbledore as well frowning at what she’d done, but she couldn’t stay locked up forever.
“No I’m not waiting for anyone. I don’t even know why I came in here. I have just been, out of sorts lately. I have a lot on my mind.” It seemed the recent attacks had not only brought a whole realm of new, terrible memories but drudged up old ones, like Brian Sullivan’s death. She had been angry for a long time after that, but she had also blamed herself, if he hadn’t been with her, he would still be alive.
“We’ve got to stop him,” she said in a low tone. “Someone has to stop him.”

Ginny shifted her weight around in the chair trying to get more comfortable. They might be in here for a while. Where else could the two go? Ginny just stared at Hermione as she began to explain her reason for adventuring off alone. Being locked up in a house all summer wasn't fun. Especially for Ginny when she had been found after being kidnapped. Spending most of her days in bed under the covers and staring off into space just thinking. Thinking of when she will be able to go back or if Ron, Harry, Hermione would reply to her owl or not. But a few months later she returned back Hogwarts and went on like nothing happened. Ignoring the stares and whispers of the students when ever she came into a room. She now could relate to how Harry felt all these years. Looking back at Hermione Ginny just nodded her head, "I know but.....I just don't want anything else to happen to any of my friends. But you could of still wrote a note...." Ginny said her face turning serious again. She was being protective but so many things have happened. And if any of her friends got hurt or killed she wouldn't know how to live with herself.
Ginny's expression hadn't changed as Hermione continued about not meting anyone and just coming in here on impulse and she had been out of it. Staring at the ground Ginny drawled in a breath and let it out. All of the attacks and everything must be remembering her of Brian. He had been killed and his little sister devastated. "Hermione if you are thinking of Brian it's not your fault! Please stop blaming yourself....." Ginny began but trailed off not really knowing what to say. It really wasn't her fault. Soon later Ginny's eyes wided as Hermione said he had to be defeated. "Hermione! Do you seriously think that anyone could just burdge in on Lord Vol...The dark lord and try to take him out? But I agree this needs to stop. Everyone can't go around in fear of something happening." Ginny began looking from the ground to Hermione's face. Her hands than turned into a fist. Even know she didn't remember exactly what happened in the Chamber of Secrets but it just frighten her more than ever that people came up petrified and the diary... 'No Ginny stop thinking that.' a voice inside her head said but the thoughts just continued to pour in.

She knew what she had just said was absurd, no one knew where Voldemort was and even if they didn’t they weren’t about to just go after him like that, not without careful planning, if anyone besides Dumbledore would face him. Hermione knew Ginny had to understand how she felt, especially after what she’d been through. Her mother was beside herself with worry when Ginny was taken, they all were, and when she was found and brought home, she had been confined to the house for months. Hermione looked up at Ginny, “I don’t want that either Ginny. It’s not safe to write a note and just send it. What if someone intercepted it and read about meeting here and attacked? I couldn’t get a secure way to communicate with Harry and Ron, so it was best that I didn’t.” No one wanted anything else to happen to anyone, Voldemort’s return and all the attacks had been scared out of their minds, scared and angry.
Hermione looked at Ginny surprised, as she brought up Brian. She couldn’t speak for a moment. “I can’t forget Ginny. I can’t. If Brian hadn’t been seeing me, if I wasn’t visiting, we wouldn’t have been at that mall, and he and the others wouldn’t have died. He came for me, not them. I’m still here and they’re dead. Nothing can change that.” She took a deep breath. It was a hard fact to live with, that people were dead because they were close to you, or just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and tried to protect you.
Hermione’s eyes darted around the room as Ginny began to speak Voldemort’s name. “I know that Ginny, don’t you think I know? It’s just that every day he is out there, more people die, and more will die because of him. I am tired of seeing everyone living in fear all the time. When I first came to Hogwarts, walking down Diagon Alley was a dream, every time, people smiled and were cheerful, but now everyone looks at everyone else with fear and suspicion.”

Ginny fists started to tighten its grip more as Hermione went on about If I and such. Looking up from the ground to Hermione's face Ginny glared, "Hermione! As I said before its not your fault! Brian really liked you and would take any chance to be with you. That day no body knew that the Death Eater was coming. It was a surprise. But don't blame yourself. Brian would of done anything to save your life and he did. Do you really think he wants you to go around feeling sorry for yourself all day?" Ginny said in a slightly frustrated voice. She knew nothing could erase that moment from Hermione heart. But she didn't have to go around with the guilt. No body should. Ever since being taken away Ginny became more different. Slightly moody and just snapping back at people when she thought they were wrong. But she was still her friendly self, when not thinking of who-should-not-be-named and death eaters. Those thoughts made her angry and just crying.
Drawling in another breath Ginny closed her eyes before replying, "I know I am getting tired of it too. But what can we do? We can't take out a Death Eater by ourselves. We most obviously can't take out the Dark Lord. So what do we do?" Ginny asked staring at Hermione with a slightly confused look on her face.
