Taire was off to her old tricks again, sneaking out of her parents house after getting caught with muggles just the weekend before. Taire was headed back into the village, she just couldn't help herself though. She needed to feel the rush that being in a speeding car gave her. Her parents didn't seem to so much mind the fact that she was in a muggle car exceeding speeds of One Hundred and Twenty miles per hour. She couldn't believe that they had been so calm with her risking her only life like that just for the rush that it gave her. She guessed that they thought just being with muggles was worse than risking her life in a muggle contraption. They hadn't yelled at her for the racing. This made Taire wonder what they really cared more about, her well being or her choice of friends outside of school. Taire guessed that her parents would never figure out that part of the reason she chose to befriend muggles was because of their unapproving nature. Taire had never really been much of a rebelious child, but since her parents absolutely refused to accept her being sorted into Hogwarts, she no longer cared what they thought and therefore she did some things that she knew they wouldn't approve of.
Taire had managed to make it out of the house without being noticed. That was no shock to her though. Her parents rarely spent any time with her anymore. Taire knew that she couldn't make them any more ashamed of her than they already were so what was the point in making them less ashamed. There was nothing she could do to make them proud of her anymore, and she felt that she didn't need to. She knew that she had friends who cared about her regardless of what she did. Friends who might not like her risking her life for the rush of speed. Friends who would be genuinly worried about her as a person and not judge her for her other friends. She doubted that the one friend she had in mind would get along with Dominic but at least he wouldn't be as shallow as her parents, and just instantly hate him because he was a muggle.
Taire carefully made her way around the village to the garage where Dominic kept his car. She recalled him telling her where he kept the spare key, and quickly grabbed it. She knew that Dominic spent the weekends at the garage and slept in a spare room that he had built for himself. His parents never seemed to care about him either. Taire had met them once and they didn't seem too happy about it. Dominic knew that Taire was a witch but had not told his parents. Taire wondered why they didn't like their son befriendign girls. She shook off these thoughts as she opened the door to the garage, wondering if Dom was there. She stepped in, disengaged the alarm, and then started walking around checking things out. She made sure that there was nothing wrong with the two cars, and then made her way back to the spare room. Dominic was still sleeping. Taire wondered what time he had finally stopped working on the cars and went to bed. She knew that he had been working extra hard on the second car because he was going to let her race it soon, and wanted to be sure that it was in top condition. Dom was like the older brother that Taire had always wanted and yet never had. She cried on his shoulder when things went wrong in her life, and spent many times thinking about him while she was away at school. She loved Dom, but as a sister loves her brother. The feelings she had for him were totally different than those she felt for Dare. Her thoughts wondered to Dare. She had told Dom a bit about him, and hoped that the two would meet one day. It would be amazing to have her brotherly friends meet the guy that she was secretly in love with. Taire gently kicked the foot of Dom's bed. It was her way of letting him know that she was there, then she went back into the main part of the garage and turned on the radio. Dom had yet again left it on his favorite Rock and Roll station. Taire nodded at this, it saved her the trouble of finding the perfect station before turning the volume up almost to its maximum point. She was ready for the day, she hoped it brought her first actual race. She had ridden with Dom so much that she knew now what to do by heart, and almost felt that she could do it with her eyes closed. She decided though that would be an experiance for another day. Today, she just wanted to feel the rush of the race. She secretly hoped that Dare knew that she was thinking about him. She had owled him a few days before and asked if he could come visit her, explaining that she was lonely at home because of the way her parents treated her.
She thought more of Dare as she began to dance freely around the garage. He had no idea of how she longed to tell him how she felt, or at least she hoped he had no idea. She thought about the race, and if she would get to race. She had been challenged, and usually didn't back down from it, but would Dom actually let her do it, or would he take her place. She hoped he trusted her enough to know what she was doing and let her do it herself. Taire continued dancing around the garage with her eyes closed, losing herself to the music, and the upbeat sound of it. She was also losing herself in her thoughts. Suddenly she hit someone. There wasn't supposed to be anyone in the garage because she had locked the door behind herself, but yet she knew the feel of skin when she hit it. Opening her eyes, she discovered a half awakened Dominic laughing at her. He asked what time it was, and she showed him that it was almost Noon. The races were set to start shortly after dark in an old abandoned warehouse parking lot, so there was still plenty of time to hang out. Dom headed back into his spare room to find something to eat. He brought back out muggle food that Taire only ate when she was around him. It was something called Pizza, and Taire loved the way that the hot cheeses in it slid off the crust and into her mouth. After eating, Dom turned down the music and discussed the race with Taire. "I understand that you know what you are doing, but I'm not sure I'm comfortable with you racing just yet." He said in his usual calm voice. "But Dom, they challenged me. How is it going to look if you drive for me? I'm not afraid of the races, and not scared of the other drivers yet. What's the worse that could happen? I see some cute guy near the finish line and forget to brake." Taire began laughing. She knew that Dom already knew about Dare and that her heart was set on him. Dom smiled, but wanted Taire to know that he was being serious. "C'mon Taire. You know I would never be able to forgive myself if anything happened to you. Your parents probably wouldn't let me forget it either. I just want you to be careful if you race today." He said looking at her the way only a brother could. Taire nodded that she understood what he meant, and didn't say anything else. She was racing this afternoon and nothing would stop her from it.
She spent a few hours trying to decide her new design on the car that Dom was going to let her drive; it had to be something fast, but yet feminine. She wasn't sure what she would come up with but she was sure it would be great. She sat with pencil in hand and paper in front of her, and thought. The thinking went on for what seemed like hours when she finally realized that she had spaced out and began drawing semi-consciously. She wasn’t even sure what she was drawing until she finally snapped out of her train of thought. She looked at her drawing and tried to picture it on the side of the car, she wasn’t sure if it would look right. She had drawn the outline of what she considered her car, and had some how changed the color of her pencil. She had shaded the car what she recognized as Gryffindor red, and detailed in a golden lion holding a sweet yellow rose. She noticed that she had lightly shaded the same design into the hood of the car, and was pleased with her work. Looking at her watch, she discovered that she wouldn’t have enough time to begin painting the car and that the design would just have to wait until the next time she was able to get out of her parents house for the day. It was a quarter till Six which meant that she needed to start getting prepared for the race. Everything on the car was ready for her; even the safety belts had been readjusted. She was still shocked that Dominic was even thinking of letting her drive.
Dominic had agreed even against his better judgment to let Taire drive in the race. He had decided there wasn’t much he could do to stop her, so the two agreed to meet at the abandoned warehouse in ten minutes. Dominic suggested that Taire take the long route so she could get better used to her car, since she was to be driving in the race. Taire liked the idea, and headed out of the garage as soon as Dom gave her the keys. Taire was ready for this race, she had her focus point, her relaxing music, and her car. What more could she need? At that thought the idea of her focus point actually being there with her popped into her mind. That was what she needed. She knew that she needed Dare here, if not to talk her out of it, then to cheer for her near the finish line. Before Taire realized it the race was on, and she was in the lead.
