"You're not trying!" The womman snarled irritatedly, prowling toward Kia slowly. "I am trying!" The young girl snapped back, equally irritated and more than a little tired. "I just can't do it!" The woman arched an eyebrow slowly, mocking derision pouring from every inch of her. "Can't do it? ...Can't do it? Unacceptable. Try again. Now." She ordered, looking at her watch pointedly when Kia didn't instantly obey him. Kia snarled silently before saluting mockingly and turning her back to her, walking toward the mat and grumbling quietly. The woman chuckled quietly, a faintly fond smile curving her lips. This girl had fire in her - more than was good for her - but she would only succeed if she lost the whiny exterior that she had been showing to her ever since summer began and she and her father strolled into her studio. Joel Brightstar was one of her more distant acquaintances but Serenity had reluctantly agreed to give the oldest daughter a few trial lessons before making up her mind on whether to keep her under her tutelage. "Well?" Ren glared forcefully. "What are you waiting for, child? Do you expect pixies to swoop down and assist you? Merlin knows that you need it!" The older woman smirked as her sharp ears caught some of Kia's louder mutters, obviously meant for her ears, and then sighed resignedly as Kia crashed onto the mat once more.
"No, no, no!" Ren strode over confidently, snapping her fingers in a wordless demand for Kia to rise to her feet and waving her away from the mat. "Observe. Make notes if it doesn't stick in your worthless brain." Kia rolled her eyes but watched carefully as Ren bent her knees slightly, obviously gathering strength, before inhaling quickly and launching herself into the air powerfully, doing a backflip in mid air and gracefully landing on the mat with her knees bent once more. "Nobody expects you to get it first time, dear." Ren smiled consolingly before sharpening her tone pointedly. "But you have been struggling for days and it is unacceptable. Even my nephew could've done it by now...if he had been interested in gymastics." Kia bent her head respectfully, knowing better than to argue when Ren was in this mood, and headed back to the mat cautiously. Everytime she had attempted it so far, she had been injured in some way and Ren refused to let her have a break until she had successfully completed the task. Unknown to her, Ren had every confidence that her young student would be successful - if only Kia gained some confidence in herself. The womans breath caught in her throat hopefully as Kia managed to flip herself over but her shoulders slumped once more when Kia landed on her shoulder and let out a stifled cry of pain.
Ren bent her head slowly, her right hand automatically rising to massage her temples, before a grim smile crossed her face and she strode over to the injured child. Her instincts were giving her a pretty good idea on how to deal with the girl lying in front of her and Ren had learned to trust her instincts. "Kiana...Kiana....Kiana..." Serenity smiled down at her young student sadly, forcing a sadness that she simply didn't feel to sparkle in her eyes. "I have to make a decision and you don't make the process very difficult. See, I have only one open space for a pupil but I have two hopeful pupils. Yourself and Darien. I've decided that the best way to make my decision is to see both of you perform at the same time. I hope that you don't have any protests..." Ren widened her eyes innocently, swallowing the smirk that instinctively rose to her lips. She had no doubt that Kiana would bend to her wishes, like the obedient pupil that Ren had originally wished for, and so there was no problem there. The real problem would be convincing her nephew to join the deception. Ren eyed Kia thoughtfully for a few seconds, an idea quickly rising to the front of her mind. Her sister had been worrying about Darien since he broke up with his last girlfriend. Surely he would have no protests to spending a few hours with a reasonably pretty girl. Especially if it meant that said girl would be around for a lot longer and a lot more often. Ah. Her dark eyes glimmered with satisfaction. There truly was nothing like a good manipulation.
