What was she supposed to remember? She knew there was something that she shouldn’t have forgotten, but she did because she’s Jordan and she forgets just about anything worth remembering. But this was something big. She was supposed to remember this. Not forget it. Jordan sat in her room, her pillow over her head, trying to drown out the banging of pots and pans coming from the kitchen. Why were her brothers making so much noise? No matter, she needed to remember what she had forgotten anyway.
There was a ring, like a doorbell, and then loud voices could be heard down the hall. Squeals of joy and cries of longing. Jordan sat up in her bed and swung her legs over the edge just as her door was burst open and in flew her two little cousins Maura and Macy. Maura was the older sibling, she was ten and you could definitely tell she was growing. Her black curly-q’s fell in swift locks down her back and her greeny-blue eyes showed mischief like no other. Macy was younger, she was merely five – but she had an attitude that upstaged even Amber’s tantrums. She was the spitting image of her older sister, the only difference was her skin was an olive creamy colour where as Maura’s was a dark tan.
“Jordan! Jordan! Birthday! Presents! Sing! Cake!” Maura and Macy exclaimed as they jumped up onto the older girl’s bed and started jumping up and down. That’s what she forgot! Jordan smiled as she picked the girls up, one underneath each arm, and carried them out into the hall where the rest of the family had gathered. Carlos looked up and grinned; “There’s the birthday girl!” Jordan winced slightly at being called the ‘birthday girl.’ It wasn’t that she didn’t like the title, nor that it wasn’t true – but she was after all seventeen, and birthday girl just seemed to be a bit childish. She shrugged and sat the two squirming girls down on the couch.
“What time is it?” She asked, turning to face the other relatives in the house. Her Aunt Maureen, her mother’s sister, stood with her husband Jonathon. They looked picture perfect. Maureen had abandoned her Spanish roots when she married Jonathon, considering her parents had disapproved of the idea of her marrying someone without a Spanish background. Her Spanish name was Mora before she changed it. Jonathon had Greek roots, hence Macy’s skin colour and the girl’s lovely eyes. Maureen pulled Jordan into a hug, and Jordan felt slightly odd with the petite woman’s arms around her so firmly. It made her miss her mother so much that there was a pain in her stomach.
“A little after noon. You slept late.” Justin called from the kitchen as he appeared with a grilled cheese sandwich on a plate and a napkin in his left hand. He grinned. It was his birthday as well. They were twins after all and well, it kind of came with the territory to share birthday parties. Justin had his friends over last night for his party, and since Jordan didn’t have many friends from outside of Hogwarts decided to just hold a family party instead. Carlos had approved of that much easier than he had of Justin’s friends. Then again, who would approve of Justin’s rowdy friends?
Justin and Jordan looked a bit alike. The same brown colour of hair, the same shaped eyes and the same sparkling smile. The height was a bit different, and the personalities were WAY off. They couldn’t be further apart. Justin slouched down onto the couch and tore off a piece of his grilled cheese, sharing it with Macy. Maura was already flipping through the channels on the television. The doorbell rang again and Carlos answered it, allowing Andres and Dalila, their Aunt and Uncle from their father’s side of the family. Dalila was their father’s only sister and she was the youngest. Carlos looked at Jordan, and caught the look she was sending.
Dalila wasn’t welcome in the house. Jose had banned her from it a long time ago when Jordan and Justin were eight years old. What she was doing here, now, was way over their heads and Carlos was in for it. Justin looked up from the television to look at the newcomers. His jaw locked and Jordan could hear the grinding of his molars. The room was silent except for the noises from the television. Andres cleared his throat and managed a small smile toward the direction of the twins. Jordan didn’t return the gesture, neither did Justin.
Before anyone could say anything, the doorbell rang again. Jordan jumped up at the chance to leave this odd and slightly awkward meeting. She ran toward the front door and threw open the oak. Half expecting her dead grandmother to be standing there, she wasn’t as surprised as she should have been at who was actually standing on her doorstep. Before she could think, or before he could say anything, Jordan threw her arms around him and hugged him – keeping tears from falling out of her eyes. She was so glad to see Dillion.

Jordan grinned big. Big grin. Dillion was here! Best birthday ever! She grabbed his hand and yanked him inside, dragging him into the living room where everyone was still stock still. She giggled and pointed to each person; "Justin, Carlos, Maura, Macy, Jonathon, Maureen, Andres, and Dalila. All family! Family, meet Dillion Moore." They looked at him, Justin managed nod in acknowledgement, Carlos smiled but put his attention back on Andres and Dalila, and the rest did the same. Maura and Macy, however, ran up to Dillion and threw their little arms around him before dragging him away toward the present table.
"We got her this one! Don't tell her but it's a..." and they whispered the rest in his ear. THey rummaged through the presents before coming up with a card, setting it perfectly on the table, and then started to pile the presents in a castle fort behind the card. Jordan smiled and bounced back over; "My little cousins." She explained with a huge grin.

"Jordan presents! Lots of Jordan presents! Me have Jordan present too! Bestest present ever! No no, not bestest. Fireworks better. Big fireworks. Really big wizarding fireworks! Blow up in common room fireworks! O...must get some. Have fun in common room! Jordan! Must get more fireworks!!!" Little people tell presents. Good presents. He put his present near card. Look good there. his box smaller than most. Look little. Want big box. Bigger is better! Pay say it was best present though. Pay insist he know girls really well.
Bound back to Jordan! "Birthday Jordan!!!!!! How old Jordan now? Always forget. Jordan my age now? Wait...what my age....oh yes! Seventeen! Me old now. Old old old Legal wizard age thing. Jordan's smile grew as Dillion called Maura and Macy little people. It was true. They were little people. But it wasn't too long ago when Jordan was Maura's age.
"Seventeen! Yep! I'm seventeen! I am legal to do magic now too! But Pops won't let you do it at the flat? Well that's no fun. Where we supposed to set off fireworks? Or change the colour of Payton's hair? Or any of that yummy good stuff I have always wanted to do when I became of age?" Jordan crossed her arms and pouted her lips a little bit but then she smiled again. "We can do them here!!" She exclaimed with excitement as she jumped up and down. Here! Brilliant idea! Carlos and Justin couldn't do anything to change their hair back like Pay could!
There was a crash and Jordan looked over to see Maura underneath all the presents, crying. Awww. Jordan rushed over and skooped the ten year old into her arms, she was rather light and set her on the table. Now she could cheer little kids up! She pulled out her wand and pointed it at Dillion's nose, and a moment later a flower sprung from it. Maura giggled and clapped, and ran off to tell everyone. Jordan stood and batted the flower back and forth before saying; "So...whatcha get me?"

Jump up and done while Jordan say she seventeen too. Great fun to be old. Great fun because now get to do magic outside school! Magic on family! except Pop's rule. that no fun. That get in way. No magic on family in flat.
"Magic outside of flat! Pop's say no magic in flat not say no magic outside of flat! Chang Pay's hair outside of flat. Get him outside...change hair! Change everyone's hair! Change Logan hair! Logan no change back either! Much more fun. Change everyone hair too....too....Hufflepuff yellow!" Drew wand and pointed it at one of the little people, now crying only not know why. Going to say charm and realized forgot charm. Must know it. In head somewhere! "Thats right! I know!" Point want again and spell come out and little people's hair turn yellow! Not long after wand pointed at him and nose sprout flower! Jordan come closer and play with flower. "I got you good present! Not fireworks. Want to get fireworks, but Payton say no...something about being a girl. Didn't pay attention. Never pay attention to him. Just do what he says. Good most of time. Expect when ti comes to fireworks. No good with fireworks. Always picks bad ones. Reminds me. Need more fireworks! Must have when go back to school. Make things more fun. Much more fun! What were we talking about? Oh yes! You open and see! Open, Open Open! Present suppose to be surprise! I got good one though. Good girlie present!"

Jordan giggled at the thought of everyone having Hufflepuff yellow hair. THat would truly be amusing, but for the moment that would have to wait. Presents! She would open everyone elses later. Dillion's was the one that counted! But he didn't get her any fireworks...no fireworks? Oh well! Present still a present! And probably very nice present! Good girlie present, isn't that what he said? Jordan took the box that Dillion had set down and shook it lightly; "Don't tell anyone I'm opening it. Then everyone else will want theirs opened too..." She told him as she unwrapped the paper.
The paper flew everywhere until she came to another box that was skinny. She lifted the lid and her smile grew. It was beautiful! Jordan threw her arms around Dillion in a big hug and then looked at the necklace again; "Oh, Dill it's so pretty! It's gorgeous! Thank you thank you thank you thank you!" She jumped up and down and then hugged him again, looking at the necklace.

Grin and clap when she get my present, but very good and not say anything. Wanted to say something but nope, no say anything. Not going to give up secret. Not really secret, but close! Still not suppose to tell! Better this way. Better she see girlie gift when no one else here to see too. Pay always say give girlie gifts alone. Something about mood. Pay spend too much time with girls to know all this stuff. He always with girls. Wait. I always with Jordan. Jordan girl. That different. Jordan special! O! She open now! Hug her back. Must thank Pay later. Crazy boy but he picked out good gift. He say girl need jewelry. Don't know why girl need jewelry but some reason it very important. Jordan like! Hug back again. "I glad you like. I don't know. I wanted to get firework. Then Pay say your girl and I can't get girl firework. I try to tell that you like fireworks! You think it was good gift. He said no no no, need girlie gift for birthday so he took me to shop. I did help pick out though. He point and glass case thing and I pick one! I did good!" He hugged her again before he started to hum happy birthday and took the necklace form the box and started to put it on Jordan. "Better out of box! Not so good inside."

Jordan hugged Dillion again; "It's good! Fireworks are amazing, but this is...beautiful! Jewelry always makes me smile...it's so...pretty! I am a girl though, and this is a girlie gift, so it's perfect! Perfectly perfect! More than perfect!" She smiled at him before looking at the necklace, "No, Dill, you did more than good." She told him while looking back up at him. When he went to put it on her, she grinned and lifted up her hair from her neck. When he had put it on her, she turned around and threw her arms around him again.
"Thank you..." Jordan was almost certain no other gift would amount up to the one Dillion had just given her. Payton had been right when he told Dillion that Jordan was a girl and girls liked jewelry, but Dill had done a fantastic job of picking out the necklace. It was by the far the most gorgeous thing she had ever seen. Jordan didn't own many nice things, so she knew she would treasure the necklace Dillion had given her with all her might. She would cherish it like it was the most important thing to her...which it might very well have been.

Jordan hug him and he hug her back. Big happy hug! Happy that she liked it so much. Was worried. Who liked something like a necklace after all? But then Jordan girl. Pay say she girl. He knew she girl. Girls suppose to like things like jewelry. Not sure why. It shiny. Shiny good. No fun though. Necklace no blow up.
When Jordan let go looked over at table where other packages are. "More stuff! Lets see more stuff!" Bounded over to take and pick up nearest thing. Card! Card not good or bad. Sometimes card funny. Cards rarely have fireworks. Not so much fun with out fireworks. Have fishy lady on front with red hard. "Like me!!" Opened card and it started to sing. Hummed with tune, tried to sing. Didn't know words. Hummed first things, then get to main part.
Float along Listen to the song The song say kiss the girl Sha-la-la-la-la-la Music play Do what the music say You wanna kiss the girl
"Do what the music say! Kiss the girl!" Bound over to Jordan and do what music say! Kiss girl!

Jordan payed little attention as Dillion bounded over to look at the other gifts, she was still mezmorized by her necklace. Of course, yes, it was shiny and that held her attention but it was also oh so pretty and she just..loved it. When she heard the sound of a card being opened, and the tune of "Kiss the Girl" coming from the paper card, Jordan looked up. Sure enough, Dillion was looking at the card and humming to the song. When it came to the chorus he did something Jordan surely hadn't been expecting. He kissed her. Well, it was fitting for the occasion - considering that's what the card was telling him to do. But was that all it was? Dillion taking orders from a card, which if you thought about it - wasn't that odd?
She stood there a moment, her eyes the only motion she was making and looked at Dillion. When she regained her senses, she blinked and tilted her head at Dill; "Do you always listen to cards?" She asked, trying to understand what just happened there. Yes, she liked Dillion, she had always liked Dillion - but she hadn't the foggiest clue that he would ever like her back. Not much more than friends. It's...Dillion. It wasn't exactly the easiest thing to imagine. He was like a five year old. And as if Jordan wasn't confused enough, he had to go and confuse her again. She was always very afraid now. What if it was just something like he was following a song? What if it really didn't mean anything? No doubt she'd be hurt, but could she hide the hurt? That was her problem.

He kissed her and she looked at him funny. Not sure why she looked at him funny. Most people not look that funny when someone kiss them. Not that went around kissing people a lot. Kissed Hannah's nose once. She was sad. Made her laugh. Then Ernie drag her away. Ernie never and fun. Tipped head tried to look at Jordan sideways to see if she looked less funny then. Never seen her make that expression. All confused like. Look down at card. Now card closed so it not sing. Start humming tune again and Jordan ask if always listen to cards. Grin! "Not always! Nope...actually never before! Only listen when card make good point. Card say kiss girl! Good point for card to make! Besides, good song fun to sing, and song say to listen to song. Card bossy. But still good point! So I listen. Sometimes I'm good. You look funny though. You ok? Was it bad I do what card say? I thought it was good idea."

"Yeah, that card is very very bossy. Bad bossy card. Meany card. But I love it anyway. Cousins give it to me. Make it big. They love Little Mermaid, see?" Jordan picked up the card and pointed out the girl with fins and red hair. She tugged on his hair; "Like you." She said in reference to what he said earlier. She didn't mean to dodge his question about her funny look. Seriously. She just didn't know what to say. When she finally did she shrugged and looked at the card again.
"Took me by surprise is all. Wasn't exactly expecting that, though I should have been - considering you are unpredictable." Jordan put the card back on the table and turned to Dillion. She jumped up and down, and then spun Dillion around before jumping on his back; "Piggy back ride!" And as she did this, she was still as confused as ever.

"Not so meany, more bossy than meany. Meany mean bad idea abut it not bad idea, it good idea, it just very bossy about good idea. But I listen anyway. Not bad idea. I not listen to bad idea. I never get bad idea so I never need to listen! I get good ideas! Lots and lots of good ideas!" Jumped around and looked back at card where Jordan was pointing. "Red hair! Red hair best! Then never loose person! Can find Pay anywhere just look for red! Not light red color Red red red! Get from Pops! You know Pops! Pops red red hair!"
Quiet for moment then Jordan on back! Piggy back ride! Ran around room with Jordan. "Unpredictable! Thats me! Very unpredictable! More fun that way! Fun! Fun! Fun! Want life fun! You unpredictable too! Why we get along so well. We bestest pair ever! More fun than anyone!" Ran more until finally hit wall. "Wall! Wall not good! Need to run through wall. Spell for that! Someone must have spell for that!"

Dillion kept talking as he ran around with Jordan on his back. She giggled and clung onto him, not wanting to fall off though with her luck she probably would just because Dillion might forget she was there and jump around even more than he already was. When he ran into a wall, he started on about somoene must knowing a spell to be able to walk through walls. Jordan giggled again and jumped off before walking over to the wall and knocking on it.
"Ghosts walk through walls...why can't we? There's not much of a difference between us and ghosts. Except that we are alive and they are dead and we can feel things and they can't. Pay might know a spell to walk through walls! You must ask him sometime, Dill! Pay knows lots of things!" Jordan turned around on her heel and looked at Dillion, her smile huge as she started to sping around in circles around him. She stopped when she became dizzy and collapsed into a chair with a big grin on her face.
