Lavender smiled as she opened her eyes to see sunlight pouring into her tower dormitory. The window was open and a soft breeze flowed into the small room, bringing with it the strong scent of summer pollen and flowers. She glanced around the room. Hermione, Parvati appeared to be asleep; the other beds were empty. With a quick glimpse of her shiny silver watch face Lavender discovered that it was nine o'clock. Thank goodness it was a Saturday. Lavender was not keen to spend the rest of the morning darting and dashing around trying to get to class on time. Not that that was possible. She would be late if she left for a class right now.
Beaming, Lavender climbed from the downy folds of her warm bed and tiptoed across the room to the window, her feet making main marks on the dust that had settled at night. She opened the window further and leaned forward over the window frame, inhaling the sweet fragrance of summer. She stood for a few moments in complete silence, gazing at the beautiful Scottish landscape that was home to Hogwarts. The lake glistened in the sun and a tentacle lazily rose from it’s murky depths indicating the giant squid was most definitely awake. Birds cross-crossed their way across the green lawn, which was covered in a glistening layer of dew. The whomping willow was completely still, basking in the early morning stillness. Hagrid was out in his Pumpkin patch throwing fertilizer on his prize pumpkins and Fang, his boarhound was chasing a butterfly through his master’s flower patch.
Presently Lavender decided to go down to the great hall for breakfast. Her stomach was rumbling slightly and she was hungry for a full English breakfast. She crossed the dormitory and took a step on the spiral staircase heading down into the Gryffindor common-room. Suddenly she was sliding down it at high speed. A boy must have planned to come up. As lavender landed on the red rug in the common-room she scanned the room, but the assailant must have left because there was no sight of him now. Lavender giggled as she left the dormitory, with a skip in her step. She stopped dead. She had forgotten to changed, Whipping out her wand she muttered a few words and in an instant her light blue flannel pyjamas had been replaced with a turquoise off-the-shoulder top and a flowing white skirt. Her hair had also changed. It was no longer messy, but now gleamed and shimmered and was held in place by a white fabric hair band.
It wasn’t long before Lavender had entered the great hall and taken a seat at her table. Things looked different today, she noticed. She wasn’t usually next this close to the wall. She slapped her forehead. She had sat at the Ravenclaw table instead. Muttering to herself she was about the leave the table when the breakfast foods appeared in front of her and she was too hungry to leave. She began piling food on her plate when she felt a pair of eyes on her.
