Dana bit down on her toast while turning the next page of the book she had leaned on her goblet. She didn’t have classes today and she had slept long and enjoyed it the fullest after having read a book to 3AM the previous night. Deciding she didn’t really care what others though, Dana had came down for a late breakfast in her pajamas, which today consisted of a white loose pants and a blue tank-top, that bared her midriff and was rather tight. Even though Dana had pulled on white sneakers and a short blue cotton jacket, she had gotten rather many appreciative glances as she was moving towards the Great Hall.
Dana covered her yawn with her hand and finished the book and closed it. Dana finished her cappuccino and toast quickly and stood up stretching lazily, pondering what she could do with her free day. She smiled and waved to a friend, moving closer to her and borrowing the book she had been reading to her. It would come for sale in shops in a couple of weeks, but as Dana’s grand-parents owned a couple of book-stores, they had sent the book for Dana to read. While moving towards the doora leading out of the Great Hall, Dana didn’t really pay attention to other people, as she pulled her jacket back – it kept slipping off form her one shoulder.
Not paying attention Dana bumped into some girl who had probably just stood up from then Hufflepuff table. Dana yelped and for a moment her arms flailed in the air helpless as she tried to keep her balance. The impact had pushed her off rather strongly though and she fell sideways. Automatically Dana pulled her hands in front and managed to do a cart-wheel, ending up on her feet still. “Sorry, I wasn’t looking where I was going. And I’m a certified clutz,” Dana said with a smile as she turned to see if the other girl had managed to stay on her feet, “No permanent damage done, right? No bones broken, didn’t hit your head, still can stay on your feet? How many fingers do you see?” Dana asked with a broad smile raising three fingers for a moment before shaking her hair and letting a soft giggle escape her mouth as she pulled her jacket on her shoulder once again before reaching out her hand: “The girl not paying attention and set on enjoying the free day, who accidentally run into you – a.k.a. moi – is pleased to meet you. I think it would be easier and shorter to call me Dana though.”
Dana giggled once more, to show the other girl she was joking and pulled her shoulder-length hair into a messy bun: “Sorry, I’m rambling. But I’m just in such a great mood today.”
Katie yawned and stretched her arms way over her head. She rolled over and glanced at her alarm clock. It was nine o’clock on a Saturday morning and Katie was ready to begin the day. She walked over to her dresser and pulled out a white, long sleeve, scoop neck shirt and a pair of low-rise, light denim, slightly flared, slightly faded jeans. Standing up Katie smiled as she saw the picture on top of her dresser. It was taken the previous summer of herself and her younger sister at a horse show. Katie had just won first place and Jane had been only too happy for her. Her father had taken the picture of them, seeing as Katie’s mother hadn’t been there. Katie’s mother had gone to Amelia’s ballet audition while her father and Jane had come to her horse show. She really missed her family being at Hogwarts.
A lonely book sat on Katie’s nightstand table and she hesitated whether or not she would bring it to read at breakfast. She decided to place it in her crème to beige hibiscus shoulder bag, just in case. Katie then went into the bathroom to put on a very minimal amount of makeup before making her way down to breakfast in the Great Hall. Upon entering, she glanced up and down the Hufflepuff table, but she didn’t spot any of her friends. She carefully made her way down to the end of the table and took a seat by herself. She sat quietly as she ate her French toast, waiting to see if any of her friends would come and join her. After waiting a good bit, she decided to pull out her book and read. It was an early birthday gift from her mother that had just arrived yesterday. It was called “And Then There Were None” and although it started out rather boring, she quickly got caught up in it. When she entered the seventh chapter she was ripped away from her thoughts. ‘How long have I been reading?’ Katie thought. She looked at her watch and was surprised to find that it was already quite late into the day.
Katie placed her book back in her shoulder bag and stood up to leave. There was homework that she needed to finish today. That way she could rest peacefully tomorrow, knowing that it was finished. However, she had only gone a few steps when she felt something hit her hard in the back. Katie stumbled forward a little, but many years of horse jumping and ballet classes helped her to stay on her feet. As soon as she had fully regained her balance she turned around to see who, or what, had run into her. She giggled a little as the other girl, who had managed to cartwheel back onto her feet, spoke to her. “Yes, I’m fine,” she said, “Nice to meet you Dana, I’m Katie. You know? I’m in a rather good mood today too. A day off of classes is nice. Sleeping late, doing whatever you feel like, those are my kind of days.” ‘If only I could do whatever I wanted,’ she thought, ‘I would be at the stables if that were really the case.’ But she kept a sweet smile on her face anyhow. “Are you okay? It looks like you got the worst of the impact.”
“The pleasure is mine. Oh yes – today is great. I have some homework to do later, but I don’t want to worry about it right now. Everybody seem to think that Ravneclaws must always learn a lot and know everything, but not this one here. I just want to relax and enjoy today!” Dana said with a happy grin and made a happy small twirl, while reaching out her arms, “I feel like I could hug the whole world today! I think I could even survive Snape today – and that says a lot!”
Dana made a grimace towards Katie: “Or maybe I’ve just had a bit too much caffeine.”
Glancing downwards Dana shrugged: “Yeah, I’m fine. Didn’t really fall, so I’d be safe from any bruises.” Dana grinned happily and picked out a cherry from the fruits dish on the Huflfepuff table, “So – hope you don’t mind me asking – what are your plans for today? Anything special? Or anything you would really like to do?”
Katie giggled once again as Dana mentioned Professor Snape, "I'm betting on the caffeine theory. No matter how good a day someone is having it is never good enough to endure a class with Snape. Never." Katie shifted her weight a little and lifted her shoulder bag up higher on her shoulder, so that it wouldn't fall. Plans for today? What were her plans today? Did she even have any? Katie push a few strands of blonde hair behind her ear as she thought about what she had to do today. There was homework. It would definently take her while to do that, and then she had planned on writing to her family and friends back home. But that could be taken care of later. There wasn't anything that she had planned on doing with anyone else was there? "Um, nothing really that I can think of. Maybe go to the library or, well, it's a really nice day outside, so maybe go outside. Like, take a walk around the grounds or something, I don't know."

“Yeah. I think it was the caffeine as well. I don’t mind Snape as a profeeor as he at least knows his subject, but please,” Dana shuddered, “Is it really that hard to wash one’s hair more than once in a century?”
Dana smiled and grabbing a grape form the table, hooked her arm around Katie’s and lead the other girl towards the doors: “Well, mind if I join you for that walk? Until I figure out what to do or we get some good idea. I think I’m going to spoil myself in the evening with a nice hot bath and a facial, but the day is still young.”
Dana smiled and not being able to hold her happiness inside, let go of Katie’s arm and made one more cart-wheel. “Sorry. The caffeine really had a serious effect on me obviously. I’m just so-so-so glad for a day without classes. I might be a Ravenclaw, but that doesn’t mean I want to work 24/7.”
Katie walked with Dana outside to the grounds. It was warmer than the normal February. The sun was out shining brightly and a nice cool breeze shook the trees ever so slightly. This would have been the perfect day to be out at the stables. It was a real pity Hogwarts didn’t have horses. The thoughts of a chestnut gelding entered her mind. She couldn’t wait until she could see him again and be able to ride him. “Yes, I will admit that Professor Snape knows his subject. He’s really not that bad of a teacher, I just don’t like his attitude. How he favors his own students and takes crazy amounts of points from students. The class really isn’t as bad as everyone makes it sound though.”
Katie turned towards the lake. The sun was making a shiny reflection off of the water that was almost mesmerizing. The soft ripples made it almost seem like spring. Spring needed to come fast. Katie was more than ready for summer break. She loved Hogwarts, but lately she just felt very homesick. All she wanted was to see her mother and her father and her sisters and her friends and her room and Shadow. “You know, that bath and facial didn’t sound like such a bad idea, and then to curl up in a cozy little chair by the fire and finish my book. That sounds like the perfect evening to me. So, Dana, would you mind telling me a little bit about yourself?”
Dana smiled enjoying the fresh air and beamed as Katie said that a facial and bath and a good book in front of a fire sound perfect. “About me. Well, there are tons of things to tell. Guess I’m shallow,” Dana pointed her tongue towards Katie with a wicked grin, before shrugging and thinking about the question for a moment, “Well, my name is Dana Coran and I’m a fifth year Ravenclaw, although I don’t like to usually identify myself by my house as the Sorting Hat did think about Slytherin for me as well. I’m hopelessly addicted to books and all kinds of books – including muggle ones. Luckily my grand-parents own book-stores back at home, otherwise I would be broke all the time.”
“I’m an only child, although I have a cousin who is close enough to be a brother. No parents. My grand-parents were – are fantastique though, so never really missed parents either,” Dana said – it was true. She had never known her mother and she had only faint memories of her father visiting when he was a toddler, until he was killed during a mission in Kuiveit. Her grand-parents were relatively young – in their late fourties – so they were more like parents than grand-parents. “I’m active, I’ve been called a flirt, but I rather like to think that I just like to meet new people. Most of them stay acquaintances though, but I cherish the friends I have. I write short novels from time to time, suck at drawing and aren’t really that good of a singer either. I like clothes and jewelry and I like it a lot and I love dancing,” Dana shrugged, not really knowing what else to tell about herself, so she tilted her head and grinned at Katie, “But I should start babbling now, shouldn’t I? If you want to know anything else about me, you’ll have to ask, because I don’t know what else to tell you right now.”
“What about you? Tell me something about yourself,” Dana asked Katie the same question back. ((Oof: Sorry for taking so long before replying )

Katie thought about what it was she wanted to say about herself. Her life really wasn't very interesting. She was just an average teenage witch. Hah! That was an oxymoron if she had ever heard one. Average and witch just should not be placed in the same sentence with out the word "not" in between them. She supposed that if she were a pure blood that she would probably have different views entirely of what "average" or "normal" were to mean. Katie guessed that she was just going to have to bore Dana with all the dull details of her simple, muggle life. "Let's see. I'm a muggle born. I live in a small town, normal neighborhood, average house, with my parents and my two sisters. Amelia is two years older than I am and Jane is one year younger. I really like Charms and Care of Magical Creatures. Arithmancy and Herbology are alright too. Transfiguration is my weakness though. I couldn't even turn a rat into a teacup without having something go wrong. As for muggle school, I really liked English class and art. I didn't really care too much for Physical Education, though. I would rather do my own work outs or play sports than having some coach yell at me to run faster all period. But what I especially hated about P.E. was climbing the ropes."
Katie shuddered as she remembered a time when she had gotten halfway up to the ceiling and stupidly looked down. Being such a little girl it seemed much higher than it actually was. Katie got very scared and accidentally slid all the way down the rope giving her a few very nasty burns. Yes, physical education was definitely not her preferred muggle school subject. She would take double transfiguration classes any day than that. And that was saying something. "I like to read. I read a lot of novels, but I do get some magazines too. I like to write too, like in my diary or essays. Not necessarily for school, but on things that I enjoy. Actually, I’ve written a few pieces for the newsletter that goes out to all the staff members at the stables back home. My mother works there and I practically live there. I love horses. I ride whenever I can or sometimes I sit and draw the horses, one in particularly. Shadow is by far my favorite horse at the stables. He’s a chestnut gelding and I miss him so much being at Hogwarts. I wish he were mine.”
Katie paused to think of anything else there might be to say about her. She bounced her hand against her thigh and used her other hand to push her hair back, out of her face. “I’m left handed, if that says anything. And I have a cat. He’s a little grey barn cat. Dusty, is his name. I took ballet since I was two years old and piano lessons since I was five. I don’t care too much for the piano though; it’s just something I do. And um, that’s about it I guess. I don’t have a boy friend, or a best friend either. Well, that is unless you count my little sister, Julia, or James. Julia is my horse instructor. Both of her parents work at the stables and she took a summer job exercising some of the horses one year and then the jockey scout discovered her. She was only fifteen then and aside from being a jockey she also started to give me riding lessons. When Amelia had lessons I would hang around the barn and Julia sort of took a liking to me I suppose. So she became like a private instructor to me. And James’ parents also work at the stables, so he’s always around. He’s our age and I was in his class at school every year.”
Dana grinned at Katie happily. She seemed to have a really nice life: “I know what you mean. Transfiguration is my trouble point as well. I’m best in Charms and History of Magic. Herbology and Care for Magical Creatures aren’t bad either. And I do surprisingly well in Divination, even though I don’t like the subject. I usually make up the home-work.”
“I went to a muggle elementary school in France as well. And hated maths – it was just puzzling for me,” Dana grinned, “But I completely know what you mean by hating P.E. That class shouldn’t be mandatory to people who go to some other training. I don’t seen much point in running around in circles, tiring everyone out just to find out who gets tired last or who runs fastest. I mean, we would all get record-times when we were chased by a dog, but we don’t put that much out of ourselves in class, so what’s the point?”
“Horses. Oh, they are so adorable animals. Wish I had a one or at least could ride one from time to time,” Dana asked, before curiously moving her head to the side, ”Hey, I have a cousin here at school as well. Also a fifth year. And he has an absolutely magical contact with all kinds of animals and somehow he managed to befriend a small group of thestrals and the alpha-male of that group gives him a ride every once in a while. He took me out for a quick tour once as well, but I can’t see thestrals, so I didn’t like it very much, but he says it’s not actually too much different from riding a regular horse, as he has one of those as well back at home. So my point actually is, that do you ride some other creature while here at school?”
“And I guess that cousin I told you about – he is actually more like a brohter – is my best friend. Although Mary – who is almost like a sister – is really close as well,” Dana told Katie with a small smile, “Your life sounds so awesome. And all the horses too. Julia and James sound like great people as well.”
Katie let a sad smile spread across her face. “No I don’t ride any other type of creature, unfortunately. I wouldn’t be able to see the thestrals, so I’m afraid that wouldn’t be such a great plan for me. I really wish that they had horses here at Hogwarts. I have such a longing to ride. I can’t wait until the next holiday. It will be wonderful to be able to see Shadow again. I’ll bet that pictures of him fill up half of my sketchbook, at the very least. You know, anytime you feel like riding you’re welcome to come with me. Just send me an owl or something, you know over the summer or something. There are tons of horses, and the stables are just about always opened, so just whenever you’re bored or if you just feel like riding.”
Smiling, she remembered the first time she had gotten on a horse. Everyone had been very surprised at how well she had taken to the horses. Usually, one of such a young age as she had been would have been terrified, but Katie had loved it. She was surprised a little when she heard Dana say that her life was awesome. Katie could hardly agree with her. She thought that her own life was rather boring, and certainly not awesome, but if Dana thought so then that was just fine by Katie. “So, Dana, do you have a boyfriend? I don’t, like I said before. What’s worse than that though is that there is a wedding I’m supposed to be attending and I’m supposed to bring a date. I think I might go with James, just as friends of course, but I’m not sure. You see, I’m not really good at asking boys those type of things. I’m more old fashioned. I would rather a boy ask me somewhere. It just seems more,” Katie paused searching for the right word, “proper, for lack of better word.”
Dana made a grimace: “Yes, that was problematic for me as well. I can’t see thestrals – my cousin can though. But I doubt you know him. He’s a Slytherin and we don’t actually have the same last name. But I used to ride horses for some time, when I was younger. I wasn’t too bad, but I had too few lessons in reality to become good either. So if you don’t mind, then I’ll accept your offer to come for a visit and a ride.”
Dana smiled happily. She had taken a couple of classes, so she knew the basics of riding. “And you have to come visit me in the summer. I’ll give you a tour around Paris and the wizarding Alley there. You are welcomed to stay at my place,” Dana offered sincerely. Even though she lived with her grand-parents in the muggle world, they still had a small mansion there with a huge garden around it. There weren’t any muggle-repelling charms on the house but it was warded well enough so no muggle ever sensed the magic in the house.
“And I know what you mean. Maybe I’m old-fashioned as well, but it’s much better when the guy does the asking. I have asked a guy out once or twice but that’s only when we are going as a larger group. I still think the guy will have to initiate a private date,” Dana agreed with Katie smiling widely, “And no, I don’t have a boy-friend. Haven’t found someone I’d want as a boyfriend and I don’t mind being single.”
Dana grinned and spreading her arms twirled once before smiling out of pure joy. She didn’t know why she was in such a great mood today, but she just was. “Or let’s say that I’m yet to meet a guy who can sweep me off my feet and keep my knees week,” Dana flashed a mischievous grin and winked at Katie, “But I have to admit there are some rather cute guys in the school. I don’t crush on anyone though. Fortunately. Or unfortunately. Whichever way to look at it.”
"I don't mind at all, Dana," Katie quickly replied, "Anytime! It can get quite dull at home during the summer and I'm sure Jane would love to meet you. She always asks me about my friends here at Hogwarts, so I'm sure she would be delighted to have you stay with us." Katie continued to listen intently to Dana and her mouth dropped wide open at the mention of Paris. The gaping quickly turned into a grin as she interrupted, "Paris? You live in Paris? That is so cool! I have always wanted to go to Paris! I would love to stay with you! I took French lessons in primary school, but I'm a little rusty. I just know some basic words, not really any grammar or anything like that."
Katie could have jumped at the thought of going to Paris. She had been wanting to go to France since she was a little girl and now actually being able to go was such a wonderful thing. "Oh I know," Katie added as Dana spoke of a man to sweep her off of her feet, "I used to read lots of fairy tales when I was a little girl and I always dreamed that one of those Prince Charmings would come and place me on his white stallion and take me away off into the sunset to his beautiful castle. I mean, I realize how ridiculous that sounds, but I just want something so perfect that I know right then and there that he is the only guy for me," Katie basked in the bliss of the thought before starting to giggle, "You must think I'm absolutely mad!"

((It’s ok )) “Great, I’ll use that invitation once then and show up. We can settle when it fits both of us sometime,” Dana said with a broad grin before she chuckled a little at Katie’s face: “Yes, I live in Paris. We have a mansion there – about couple of metres from the entrance of the magical alley in Paris, but still in the muggle world. And a small summer cottage near the tourists heaven at Cotê d’Azur. I’m born French you know – just came to Hogwarts because my grand-parents wished it and Dumbeldore agreed to accept me. And my cousin – he goes to this school as well because of that, even though he is born in Italy. But anyway – you are welcomed there anytime. You let me know when you’re coming and where you arrive and I’ll pick you up from there. Meredith and Anna – she is our cook – would love to have an other girl around.”
“No, you aren’t mad. Which girl hasn’t dreamed of a prince on a white horse at one point?” Dana asked with a grin, “I certainly did as well. But I think that now I’d be happy with some brains, a tolerable personality and someone I can trust and count on. Good looks? Well, it wouldn’t hurt, but I could survive without them as well. But how about it – found anyone fit enough to be your knight in shining armor here in the school? Or someone who might cut close enough? Or what about that James guy?” Dana asked with a sly wink and a grin.

"If you aren't busy over the Easter holiday then you could come then. My mum and dad don't have anything planned for us. I have to work on the wedding a little, but other than that I don't think there will be very much going on at home." Katie said digging through her bag. She pulled out a small planner and flipped it open to March, "Nope, nothing." She added a smile and placed the planner back inside. While listening to Dana she pulled out a small bottle of hand lotion with a French Vanilla scent. Her hands had been horribly dry lately. "Lotion?" Katie asked, gesturing towards Dana with the bottle.
"Well," she said rubbing the smooth cream between her palms, "I'm not really sure. James, well I've never really thought of him that way before. And to be perfectly honest, I don't usually socialize that much with boys so I don't really know any of them well enough to really have feelings for them," Katie bit her lip and glanced at her feet, "I'm just not really like that, I guess. I don't know why, I just don't feel comfortable around boys. I get all squirmy and jumpy and nervous." She tried, unsuccessfully, to keep the blush from creeping up onto her cheeks. That was another problem. Her shy, conservative attitude always had her blushing about something. It was a little embarrassing and if Katie didn't have as high a self esteem as she had she would be down right mortified.

Dana thought for a moment, letting her plans slip through her mind: “I think I’m free at Easter. My grand-parents are going to Japan and I was going to stay in our apartment in muggle London anyway, so it fits me perfectly. Just tell me the exact date, time and place I have to show up at.”
Dana grinned brilliantly and shook her head at the lotion Kaitlyn offered. Dana had received amazing genes from her parents- - she could eat how much she wanted, sshe was very agile and didn’t really have to work much on her appearance. She just used a lotion every morning and make-up when she felt like it. Even though Dana usually didn’t bother with it, so it was just a lucky chance she didn’t really need make-up either.
“You said you are going to a wedding, but you never told me who is getting married?” Dana asked with a curious tilt of her head as she thought about Kaitlyn’s words. It seemed weird for Dana, who had always been social and out-going, self-confident and even a bit flirty at times. As some sixth year boy hurried past Dana sent him a puzzling smile, making the guy stumble and take a second look to make sure the smile was meant for him. When Dana just broadened her smile a little, the buy blushed crimson and muttering and apology as he stumbled again and almost walked into Dana, hurried off towards the castle. “I’m exactly opposite,” Dana said letting out a chuckle as the guy was out of hearing range, “I’ve never been shy around guys. Never easy to get, but never shy either. Maybe it’s because of being surrounded by men ever-since I was a toddler – I have a lot of male relatives, who all spoiled me in any way they could think off. And on top of that I’ve been dancing on podiums in a relatives clubs since I was 13. That and having Slytherins as relatives and good friends has grown me a rather thick skin.”
Dana smiled glancing back at the castle where the guy had hurried off: “If you tell yourself that you look good, feel great and are smart as well, then the confidence shows and at some subconscious level rather makes the guy blush and shy away a little. A neat little trick my grandma taught me.”
Katie smiled, happy that her new friend would be able to come and stay with her for a while. "Well, you could just get off the train and go home with me from there if you'd like, but I completely understand if you would rather go home first. So, if you go home first then you can come whenever you're ready, but I don't exactly know how you would get to my house because we aren't exactly connected to the floo network." She frowned trying to think of some way they could meet up. "Well, I could meet you at the Leaky Cauldron, I suppose." She listened to the rest of what Dana had to say. "Oh I'm sorry," she said at the mention of the wedding, "Actually there are two weddings. One is for Mia's sister and the other is for Julia, my riding instructor. Julia's is the one which I'm helping plan. Let me tell you, it isn't an easy task."
Katie watched, extremely impressed, at how Dana reacted the boy. She wished that she could have that kind of effect on boys. Then she would have no problem whatsoever finding a date for the weddings she was attending. She raised her eyebrow questioningly, "Your grandmother taught you that? My grandmother went crazy just seeing my sister tell a boy goodbye after football practice! I will definently have to try your technique though. It seems to work extrememly well for you. I'm sure you would have absolutely no problem getting any boy you wanted. Speaking of that, do you have your eye set on any particular boy? Have you been talking with any boy lately that has particularly sparked your attention?"

“Straight from the train sounds fantastical to me. If not I would have probably got a taxi or rented a car – I can drive one,” Dana answered with a small smile, “And home is back at France. In London we just have an apartment and that’s in muggle-world, so I couldn’t use floo-network anyway. But if I can come straight with you, then that would be best.”
Dana turned her head side-ways listening as Katie talked about the weddings: “That sounds pretty amazing. What kind of a wedding does your riding-instructor. Julia wasn’t it? Well, what kind of a wedding she wants? Something big or for family only or in open air or what? I’m curious.”
Dana let out an amused chuckle at Kaite’s reaction: “Yeah, my grandma taught me that trick. She did once when my etiquette teacher was ill, so I had spare time. I rather often accompany my grand-parents to social events, so the things I learned in etiquette lessens do come rather handy from time to time. And I don’t mind dressing up sometimes either. Nothing wrong with being who I am and enjoying it to the fullest, right?”
Bitinginot her lower-lip Dana gave some serious thought to Katie’s question. There were some nice guys in the castle, but was Dana crushing on someone? The answer came immediately, so Dana just shook her head and went with an easy-tone: “Well, I don’t mind the sight of Potter or Malfoy from distance or some other guys here in the castle. And I talk to guys often enough, but none of them are more than friends. None has sweeped me off my feet.”
Grinning Dana tugged at her belly-button ring – she really liked the little snitch: “SO I just admire from far and enjoy my life as it is. But right now I can’t name any boy that gets my heart beating faster.”
((Do you want to do the post where Dana is over at your place as well? If so, then just start it, but it's your choice ;D ))
