She smiled slightly when Ivy meantioned that she too had few friends her first years at Hogwarts.
"I like my second year so far" she replied to her friends question "My classes are okay, and Making the quidditch team really made my happy."
She grinned slightly at the last part of her reply. She was even happier that Ivy was on the team too. That meant she would ahve a friend at pratice.
"I am trying hard to make friends this year...I didn't really have any last year"

Ivy listened carefully to Nokomis' response. She wasn't entirely sure what to say. What Nokomis said was true really... she hadn't had all that many friends last year. Ivy wondered what Nokomis had been thinking all that time. She'd always seemed to have her nose in a book. Ivy had wondered whether she wouldn't have been better off in Ravenclaw.
'No! Of course she wouldn't!' Ivy told herself reproachfully. 'You know that Hufflepuff is the best house for people like you and Nokomis.'
Yes, Ivy did know that. It was hardly as if people in Hufflepuff were particularly thick and Nokomis had all the qualities of a Hufflepuff. Ivy knew she could rely on her if need be.
"Yeah..." Ivy said distractedly. "That's a good idea to make more friends... as long as you have a few good ones its OK but having none is a bit lonely."

She nodded slightly at the comment, it was longly having no friends. That was why she acted like such a bookworm her first year, she though, remembering how that was how she avoided having to interact with her fellow students. She liked reading but it wasn't as if she had any real talents in it. It was simply that if everyone thought she was lost in her reading, no one tried to talk to her.
"I bet quidditch will help" she replied, trying to make herself stop thinking about the year before.
She then blushed slightly--she talked about quidditch too much.
"I mean...we have to make friend with the team...."

Ivy saw Nokomis blush but decided to ignore it. She herself knew all too well it really didn't help to have the other person confront you.
"Yep," Ivy said, "I should think it will help actually. I mean, I already know most of the people on the team but I'd like to get to know Kim and Jordan a bit better. It'll be good playing with people I know well though, like you and Kiyla."
Ivy decided that if she talked a lot, it would help Nokomis to talk a bit more. She didn't know if Nokomis thought she was talking too much, but it wasn't as if she was particularly. Ivy was the sort of person who could find plenty to say when she'd started, since she tended to know a fair amount about most of the topics she talked about. It was just getting started.
Ivy smiled slightly, and looked up at Nokomis. She wondered what the younger girl would get out of Quidditch and what would happen that year.

She smiled in agreement and nodded
"Yeah. Valerie seems nice, but really quiet. She is so much older too. Kim....well..."
She paused for a moment as she thought. How did one even begin to describe the Hufflepuff fourth year? She did enough talking for the whole team, and had no patient. Though she was pretty good on a broom...
"Kim seems like a lot of fun" She finally finished, smiling slightly at Ivy.
"I don't know Jordan all that well though, but Kyila is nice...we talked in the Common Room the other day. I wish she wasn't always so sad though"
Ivy's plan to get Nokomis talking seemed to be working. She hd a habbit of liking to explain things, more to herself than anyone, out loud. For some reason it seemed to make more sense when she did that.

((Sorry it took me such a long time to reply. Oh dear. Oh well, I have now.))
Ivy listened attentively to what Nokomis was saying. She agreed with most of it, it was a lot of sense.
She picked up on what Nokomis said about Kiyla, because she was worried about her herself.
"I know what you mean about Kiyla. She does always seem to be sad," Ivy said thuoghtfully. "I think it's cos she's going through a lot at the moment." She broke off for a while.
"You know what, we should cheer her up. We should plan something to cheer her up."

She smiled at the idea and nodded. They were all Quidditch buddies, and friends beyond that. They should do something to try and cheer Kiyla up.
"Thats a good idea. But what should we do?"
She and Kiyla had just started to become friends, and she didn't know what would cheer her up.
"I don't know what she really likes....or what would cheer her up"

Ivy looked thoughtfully at Nokomis. She wasn't sure what would cheer Kiyla up at this moment in time.
"Well, her birthday isn't until August, so we can't use that," she said. "I'm not exactly sure... I mean what sort of surprise she would like. She adores cats and she likes Quidditch, but I don't see how we could use that either. Um..."
Ivy knew that it was a good idea but when it came down to finding something that would actually cheer Kiyla up. She had had a glimpse of what Kiyla was going through and something superficial wouldn't drag Kiyla out of her gloom for long. Ivy sighed and looked up at Nokomis again, hoping for a bit of help or at least an ingenious comment.

She bit her lip and tried to think of how they could cheer Kiyla up. Cats and Quidditch didn't exactly give her much to go on. She still wanted to think up a way to make Kiyla happy--after all making her happy wouldn't hurt her quidditch game. She was pretty good, but she always seemed so sad and that had to effect her game.
"Is there something about the ball that we could use? Everyone is pretty excited about that"
She though for a moment, trying to figure out how they could work out a way to tie cats and Quidditch into the ball.

Ivy looked at Nokomis, her face lit up for a moment.
"You know, that is a brilliant idea," she exclaimed. "Of course people are excited about the ball. I don't know if Kiyla's got a date but it's possible she might. In any case, it's a great idea and I bet we could use it somehow."
She lapsed into silence for a while, thinking.
"What are you going to the ball as?" she asked, thinking about Nokomis last year in a cat costume. A painfully shy Nokomis which didn't seem so dominant this year.

She thought for a moment about the ball and Kiyla. She had seen her friend spening some time with an older Hufflepuff boy, and she wondered if that was who Kiyla might go to the ball with. She was happy for her friend, and hoped that it would work out. Kiyla needed someone to make her happy.
"I think I'm going to be a cat again"

Ivy smiled at Nokomis slightly, although that wasn't really how she was feeling. She couldn't explain it - she'd felt unhappy quite a lot recently.
"So you're going as a cat. Hmm, I'm not even sure what I'm going as. There seems little point in my going to be honest. Or at least in worrying about it. Never mind."
Ivy looked down at her toes, wishing she hadn't said anything at all.

She looked at Ivy a little confused. Why would her friend say that? Everyone seemed really excited about the ball, why woudln't her fried be?
"Why do you say that about the ball. I bet its going to be a lot of fun. And I bet you can think of a great costume."
She smiled, though it was slightly forced. She didn't know why Ivy seemed to be less happy latley, but she wished she could do something to change it.

Ivy looked up, glad to take advantage of her friend's confusion to cover over what she had just said. With any luck, Nokomis might forget it or not figure it out.
"Yeah, I'm sure you're right," she said. "It's just me, I guess. I'll probably prove myself wrong on the night."
She smiled at Nokomis, feeling guilty for having shown her core of unhappiness.
"This homework really isn't going to do itself, you know," she said, knowing that it would be obvious she was changing the subject. "Although there might be a charm that'd do it for us. Know any?" She smiled again at Nokomis, and this time her usual self, mostly happy and loyal, slightly cynical, was back shielding her inner self from the outside world.

She laughed at Ivy's comment about a charm to do homework. She wondered if there reall was such a charm...and if there was, how teachers kept it hidden from the students.
"I wish"
She laughed again softly as she reached for her own homework, which she had pushed away, rememer when she looked at it how blank her parchement was.

Ivy laughed softly as Nokomis responded to her light hearted comment. She felt much better when she pushed things away inside her, although the ache was still there.
She looked back down to her piece of parchment. Alas, there wasn't anything new written on it. It might help if they did it together; they might get it done quicker.
"OK then..." she said, "what does Wingardium Leviosa do?" She looked aside to Nokomis. They both knew, it was just a question of putting it into words.

"Um..." she started, biting her lip as she looked down at the her quill which she moved slightly side to side to feet the air against the feather. Her quill was what she used the spell on before.
She then smiled and looked over at Ivy, why hadn't she thought of it before!
"We could always try it again...that might make us right it better"
She was so use to not using her magic, it seemed odd not to be able to. They were at school though, so they youc use all the magic they wanted.

Ivy looked at Nokomis. It was so obvious; why hadn't she seen it before? 'Too wrapped up in your own misery might be the obvious answer', an unpleasant voice from inside her nagged, but Ivy tried to ignore it.
"That would be a good idea. As long as we don't make too many large thuds - that might make Madam Pince rather suspicious."
Ivy grinned at Nokomis, picking up her Charms book. This was what she'd used before, so she was used to the weight she had to lift with the spell.
"Are you going first?" she asked.

She bit her lip and looked down at her quill. She always had problems with this charm, she never got the swish-and-flick just right and it always made her quill vibrate instead of levitate. Finally she nodded and took a deep breath. She had praticed a few times since class, maybe she would get it right this time.
"Wingardium Leviosa" Nothing but vibrating.
She then took another breath and tired to focus more on her swish-and-flick.
"Wingardium Leviosa" Her quill slowly began to rise until it was about eye level, and lingered there for a few moments before easing back down onto the desk.

Ivy watched Nokomis perform the spell. Ivy smiled at her as the quill lowered back onto the desk. She'd been in control of that descent.
Ivy looked away and tried to recall what she'd done in class. She made sure she was concentrating properly, and thought about the 'swish-flick' movement.
"Wingardium Leviosa!" Ivy said firmly. The book rose for quite some way, hovered in the air, and started to fall at an alarming rate back towards the floor as Ivy ket her concentration drop for a moment.
"Wingardium Leviosa!" Ivy repeated, and the book began to levitate again. Ivy kept her concentration this time and lowered the book gently to the floor.
Ivy bent down to pick up the book, and straightened again, smiling at Nokomis.
"OK then," she said, "so let's try to put that into words." Ivy sat down again, her quill poised.
