Katie was just in the Gryffindor common room working on some homework. She than noticed more and more people come in and it started to get noisy.
"I will just wait a few minutes until they leave" Katie said to herself continuing to write down her essay for Snapes class.
Then even more people came in and it got even noisier. Katie couldn’t take it anymore and she jab her back pack and walked out of the Common and to the library for some peace and quiet.
"I hope it’s quite there" Katie said in her mind as she walked down the flights of stairs and towards the Library. She than walked in and noticed Payton sitting at a table. Katie smiled slyly and walked over to the table and sat down.
"I thought I might run into someone I knew trying to get away from the nosey common room" Katie said continuing to smile at Payton. She got out her books and continued her home work that was due very soon.

He had decided earlier that day to escape Dillion's push for a prank and made his way down to the library. It was rather empty for a evening before cerfew, but he figured that most of the the other students had deicded to do their studying in their common rooms. He now sat, with his chair a few feet away from the table, and advanced charms book propped up against his back so he could lean forward and see it, while still having space in front of himself to pratice.
Hearing a slightly familiar voice he looked up and flashed Katie a friendly smile.
"Hi Little Griffle....what subject brings you to this charming place this evneing?"

Katie looked up from her piece of parchment. She pulled back her long brown hair that was in the way.
"Potions and muggle studies. Why are you here" Katie said returning the friendly smile.
She than put her quill in the ink tray and looked up at Payton ready to have a long conversion. She wanted to make new friends so badly.

Smiling slightly he held up his wand and after mumgling a few words spelled out charms in a soft blue ribbion that faded a few moments after he spelled it out.
"I am afraid that I have a slight obsession with the subject, and that means that Snape gets very little of my attention"
He looked over at her after his ribbion word disapered and studied her expression for a moment, somehow it didn't look like the expression of a student planning to loose themselves in their potions book.
"But then I have never been the type to give my attention to rather grumpy professors when I can spend my time doing much more enjoyable things"

Katie smiled at Payton she knew what he meant.
"I am a bit of a trouble maker myself but never been that good. I been working on my studies since I came from a muggle family and no nothing about magic" Katie said smiling.
She watched Payton in a gaze as he made the ribbion disapear.
"I only know some charms and spells but nothing powerful. I haven’t gotten my hands on a book that has any good charms or spells I can use." Katie said smiling once again slyly.

He flashed her a rather friendly, understanding smile before using his want and a simple moving charm to turn the page of his book.
"Your not the only muggle born in the room. You can imagine my suprise when I got my letter from Hogwarts. Pops thought it was a joke until the second letter arrived."

Katie returned the friendly smile.
"My father almost ripped up the note but lucky me I got it before he could reach it" Katie said with a laugh.
"He wanted me to stay in a muggle school and continuing a muggle education but he finally gave up" Katie said with a stratified look.

He laughed ssoftly at that. He had heard a few similar stories coming from other muggle borns, now that it wasn't understandable though. After all, it must be hard for a muggle, thinking that magic existed only in the imagination, and then to find tha tit was real. He assume that was it for adults at least. When you were eleven and getting a letter, it seemed more of a dream come true than anythings.
"See, my father is not a normal, reasonable man. Once he decided that the letters were not fake, he couldn't have been happier. He has always been rather supportive all of our differences I guess...."
He laughed slightly, thinking of his Pops, who did truly think it was wonderful. He couldn't wait to bring them to Diagon Alley and do all of their wizard shopping. He also encouraged Dillion and himself to do as much studying as they could to learn about the new world they were to enter.

Katie sighed as Payton talked about his father. She wished her father loved her but he didn't even wont to be with her.
"After my mom died my father and I came together....." Katie said trailing off. She took a deep breathe before saying the rest.
"But then after my letter came he didn’t won’t to look at me. All I had for a friend was loneliness" Katie said remembering the nights she had spent so alone in the empty manor.
"But I am so glad I came here to Hogwarts I have changed so much. I becoming more outgoing and open to people." Katie said looking at Payton with her light green eyes of mischief. SH flashed him a big glowing smile.

He nodded softley, feeling compasion when she spoke about her mothing and how it made her closer to her father, but when Hogwarts came about, it put a dent int heri realtionship. At least part of it he could understand. So far they had some strong similarities. They both came from muggle families, and they had both lost a mother.
"I know I can't understand exaclty, but I lost my mum too. Only I never really knew her. She left us when Dillion and I were newborns. But then I lost my first step mother when I was seven."
He knew it wasn't exactly the same, but it was something. And he wanted her to know that so she would feel that she could talk to him.

Katie nodded her head, they both had some things in common. Katie continued to look at Payton and listen about his mum.
"That must stink not knowing you mother." Katie said still looking at Payton with her glowing smiling.
She than tried to change the subject she didn’t feel like crying right in front of Payton she needed to be strong.
"How many siblings do you have" Katie asked. She rested her elbows on the table and her face was in her hands.

He laughed slightly at the question, not that it was optimum timing with their former topic, but he always managed to laugh and have it seem like it was exactly what was needed for the moment.
"That is the magic question you know....there are eleven of us. Six girls, and five boys. Now imagine trying to fit that many people, along with my Pops, and second step mum along with a rat, a frog, and a guine pig into one flat in the middle of London"

Katie laughed as Payton talked about his family.
"Yeah I can image it. Five cabs with everybody tightly packed together and the animal smell." Katie said laughing once again. She could picture it in her mind.
"It beats being alone all day in an empty manor" Katie said as she stopped laughing.

He wa quiet for a moment, before nodding, watching her to see if her expression changed with their new topic. He slipped his want into his pocket, it was probably safer there. He had a habit of doing entertaining charms when he was having conversations with people, and he knew it made it harder to have a serious conversation, as it tended to make it seem as if his attention was elseware.
"Ah, can I guess you are an only child?"
He moved closer to the table, resting a hand on it and then leaning his weight against it, and looked over at her. He couldn't even in his wildest imagination think of what it would be like be an only child.

Katie looked up at Payton and leaned back in her chair slightly so she won’t fall. She nodded her head at Payton’s response.
"Yep an only child unless you count butlers that always won’t to do something for you and you say you can do it." Katie said in an annoyed voice.
After realizing she said that she turned red she didn’t mean to say that. She didn’t like telling about her wealth in front of other people. Their more to know about them then kept on saying that you so rich.

Upon hearing her commment about butlers, he raised an eyebrow, a sure sign he was thinking something he didn't plan to putting into words. She had money, that always seemed almost un heard of these days, except for a few pureblood famlies.
"Ah yes, butlers can cause such trouble."
He didn't come from a family with a lot of money, with the number of them that there were especially, it was always a struggle to make ends meet.

Katie sighed she didn’t notice she was leaning back in her chair. She looked at Payton and smiled.
"Sorry its just I don't like talking about but it. It sometimes come out." Katie said looking up at Payton with her light green eyes.
"I would rather have a big family who loves you than be rich" Katie said once again with a sigh. She would give up anything, well not anything, to just be a "normal" person.
Katie than fell on the ground along with her chair. She started to laugh. She had not laughed like that in a while.

He let a soft friendly laugth escapt as he stepped forward and extended her hand so he could help her back up to her feet.
"A lot of people say that, and I wouldn't trade my my family for all the money in the world, but it would be nice to keep them around and have a bit more money"
He gave her a bright smile as he pulled he back up and reached over for her chair, his mood now light and joking
"But then if that was the case, life might must be perfect, and what would I have to look forward to then?"

Katie smiled to Payton as he helped her up. She was starting to take a liking to him but not in that crush kind of way.
"It looks like you have a way with the ladies. I saw you at the ball with Kiyla and Sethia." Katie said in a teasing voice.
"I like life the way it is. It’s like my mother used to say you can not let today’s troubles cast a shadow on tomorrow dreams." Katie said looking at Payton with her sparkling eyes and smiled that say prankster all over it.

He coudln't resist laught at her comment. It was true that charm seemed to just happen before he realized it. He blamed it fully on having the number of sisters that he did. There are just certin things little sistesr expect of an older brother, and most happen tto be things other girls like as well.
"Yeah, it manages to get me into trouble as often as not though. Girls have a habit of thinking either I mean something when I don't or thinking my intentions are untrue."
He sighed slightly, there wwas one of each probably waiting for him in the common room. One of the girls he was friends with, and she happened to have the latter of the two qualities he meantion and was probably the first girl to ever openly dislike him.
