Post by Professor Severus Snape on Oct 4, 2004 22:49:53 GMT
The potions classroom was in the castle dungeon, two flights down from the Great Hall. Row after row of desks sat with cauldrons and measuring tools waiting for the students' arrival. The room itself was dark with no windows providing sunlight and only a handful of candles illuminating the room. The blackboard contained two sets of instructions, the first being "Fill your cauldrons with fresh water." The second instruction being written in larger writing, "Sit down and be quiet!" The clock in the classroom slowly ticked as the hour of class drew closer.
Severus Snape sat in his office a few doors away from the potions classroom savoring the last few seconds of silence before he would be subjected to the stupidity of the masses that populated the castle.

Dean Thomas had a very strong dislike of his next class as he headed torwards it. He walked past his friends without saying hi ,because he did'nt want to be late. He finally reached the classroom and entered.
Dean looked around for a seat and saw that a there was a seat in the back that was just perfect. He went to the back table and sat down and got out his supplies for the instructions

Parvati entered the dungeon, dreading the class that was her last. She sighed as she sat down next to Dean and pulled out her things. She smiled at him and then turned to read the board. Ergh, she thought to herself. Simple Snape, short and mean. She took out her wand and filled her cauldron with water, and then sat back in her seat, waiting, no dreading for the class to start.

Post by Perseus Feynman on Oct 5, 2004 1:47:51 GMT
Perseus had been looking foward to potions and it was the first of the year on the second day back! He excelled at the subject and was the best at it in his year. Everyday, he spent hours pouring through voluminous texts about Potions, Alchemy, Advanced/Integral Calculus, and Physics. Although this seemed to be idiosyncratic to non-potion believers, Perseus still persisted.
After finishing his lunch, Perseus took out his weighty volumes and stuffed them into his enormous bags. The narrow halways bustled with exasperating students in discord over some small issue and were now discoursing with racous and profuse speeches. The hall was tumultuous as the bell rang for the afternoon classes to begin. Penumbrae became long, once again, after the Sun shifted to the West.
Upon arrival at Potions class, Perseus found that he was early; there were very few people there. He sat down at the front of the class with ebullient enthusiasm, unloading all his ingredients and cauldron for the upcoming class.

Justin was running early on things and decided to keep it that way as he made his way torwards his least faviorite class ,Potions. He was taking more classes this year than usual and was keeping on top of 'em. He walked in upon reaching the class and saw that his good friend Perseus Feynman was there. He also saw Dean and Parvati ,his fellow Gryffindors. He walked over to Perseus and took the seat next to him as he put his things down. He looked at the board and did what the instructions said and fille his cauldron with fresh water. He then said " Hi Perseus ,whats up?" in a still sleepy voice.

Post by Ginny Weasley on Oct 5, 2004 2:01:59 GMT
Potions was by far Ginny’s least favorite subject. The subject itself was fine, but the Slytherin torments were nearly too much to bear. There was no mistaking the fact that Professor Snape favored the Slytherins and they took full advantage of that during potions by firing off insult after insult towards her and her family. Really though no Gryffindor was safe when it came to Potions. With these thoughts in her mind Ginny walked down the steps to the dungeon and another hour of pure evil.
Upon entering the dark room she found several students already seated, and the usual chatter that was found in most classes before they began was absent here. Walking to the side of the room she took a seat and looked at the board. Instructions were already set up which she didn’t like, that meant this might be a very long class. Taking her cauldron to the nearest sink, Ginny filled it with water then returned to her seat and took out a quill and parchment for note taking. Despite the fact that a few others were whispering to each other, Ginny instead sat quietly, her eyes locked on the door dreading the entrance of the Professor.

When Liam headed for his potions class, he couldn't help but think, 'I hate having this class with Professor Snape!' As he slowly made his way down to the dungeon, he felt the cold stail air on his skin. When he finally reached the classroom, Liam took a deep breath and pushed the door open. Liam looked at the blackboard before taking his seat. 'Fill cauldron with fresh water,' he thought to himself. Liam headed for a desk at the very back of class as far away as possible from the professor, set his things down and went about filling the caldron.
After he finished filling the cauldron, Liam sat down and waited for class to begin.

Harry sat in the Great Hall as he read over his Charms. The sun was shining thought the windows as the Great hall only housed him a a few others. A test was going to be held tomorrow and he didnt want to mess up in his NEWTS year. Hearing many people walking in the hallway, Harry looked up to the clock. 'Nearly Potions.' He thought as he gathered his things and started down into the dungeons.
Potions with Snape was something Harry dreaded since his first year. His First class with Snape didnt go to well and from there on he dispised Professor Snape, but potions was a class he had to take- so he better get it done now than get detention from skipping it.
Reaching the eerie classroom filled with students Harry looked around for a seat. Only a seat in the back of the room was open as he sat down and read what was written on the board. After filling his cauldron up with fresh water he waited to see what the horrid class held for him today.

The clock now showed one minute until the class was to begin. Standing up, Severus Snape pocketed his wand and walked out of his office into the dungeon corridor. A few feet away he saw tardy students rushing into class. With a sneer on his face, Severus walked over to the doorway and entered the room. Grabbing the door with his hand he slammed it shut creating a thunderous boom that was to silence any would be talkers.
Walking up the aisles of the class towards the front he looked at each students’ cauldron. Such a simple task as filling a cauldron with fresh water proved far to difficult for this group as most had no idea of “filled” meant. Stopping beside one Harry Potter, Snape carefully inspected the cauldron then took out his wand. Tapping the cauldron with his wand the water vibrated slightly then a dozen small orange dots floated to the surface. “Potter! Perhaps my instructions were not clear enough for you? I believe I said FRESH water. Those orange specs are debris that will contaminate your potion, now fill your cauldron with FRESH water, and 5 points from Gryffindor."
As he continued to walk he found Perseus Feynman, inspecting his cauldron Snape found it in good order. "Excellent Mr Feynman, 5 points." Continuing towards the from of the room he found Dawn McGrogan, looking over her shoulder at her cauldron it too was in good order. "Very good Miss McGrogan, 5 points."
Severus then walked to the front of the classroom and surveyed most the students with utter contempt. “As Halloween is approaching some genius decided it would be a good idea to have a ball and numerous sweets for you to gorge yourselves on. I disagreed to the idea as did Madam Pomfrey as this is not a place for gluttony and dressing up in ridiculous costumes” Snape then paused for a moment and looked at Potter, “though some of you might do well to wear a mask so as no one can identify you thus giving people a chance to not have to see Potter’s face everywhere.” Snape again paused this time to allow the Slytherins some laughter. “In any event, Madam Pomfrey expects a great many of you to eat yourself sick so she has asked that we brew her some healing potions so she will have ample in stock, as well as other healing potions she’ll need.” Snape then took out his wand and pointed it at the board and writing appeared. “Beginners, you will be working on simple upset stomach cures, your first steps are on the board.”
Beginners
1. Dice two ash roots into small ½ inch cubes and place into cauldron 2. Boil cauldron allowing roots to simmer, stir potion vigorously until the potions turns a bright orange
“OWL students, you have shown some skill in potions, you will be working on potions to cure a common cold.
OWLS
1. Chop grindy weeds into small chunks then ground them into a fine powder 2. Add gridy weed powder to water and slowly heat over a low flame 3. Stir occasionally until potions turned dark grey
“NEWTS, you’ve managed to show competency enough to be allowed in my NEWTS class. You will be working on a new potion that Madam Pomfey says will prevent you from getting colds and the flu.
NEWTS
1. Crush lilac petals into a powder 2. Chop kingbelery vines into small bits 3. Boil your potions over a high flame 4. Carefully add lilac powder while stirring constantly 5. Add kingbelery bites one by one, stir vigorously after he bit is added. When potion turns white stop stirring.
“I suggest you all get started now and follow the directions carefully because you will taste test your own potion before you leave today. The ingredients you need are in the back cabinets, now get to work and be QUIET!”
Liam studied the black board very carefully, making sure he understood the instructions before getting started. 'Dice two ash roots into half inch cudes and place into cauldron,' Liam thought to himself. 'Boil cauldron allowing roots to simmer, stir potion vigorously until the potion turns a bright orange,' Liam finished his thought, 'this should be easy enough.'
Liam went to the back cabinet to get the ash roots and headed back to his cauldron. He started by seperating the roots from each other and began to dice the first. After a few short minutes, Liam had finished dicing the first root and was beginning to dice the second. After finishing dicing the second into the reguired half inch cubes, Liam placed the roots into his cauldron, heating it to a boil and stirring vigorously. Finally, the potion turned a bright orange color.

Post by dawn on Oct 7, 2004 19:39:29 GMT
Dawn sat with her arms crossed as Snape came into the room. With gleeful look, Snape began to yell at Potter from his cauldron. With a smile her eyes narrowed as she started at him. She wanted to shout something out, but she decided later on when he felt off the hook she would make him feel like he wasnt suppost to be alive, which he deffinatly wasnt suppost to be alive a'tall! With a laugh as Snape walked away, she left it at that.
He went on about Madam Pomfrey. 'Twit. We arent getting any 'potions' work done. She has to interfer. I'll make a healing potion for her... to heal her pea for a brain.' Dawn thought to herself as Snape's directions appeared on the board. With a yawn Dawn huffed as she read them over. She wasnt in the mood to do work and Snape obviously wouldnt mind if she did it last minute.
About ten minutes passed and people were running around with small conversation trying to get the potion done. Dawn finally stood up as she held her wand in the air and gathered her ingredients. Some people in her class were damn Mudbloods who were incompitent of gathering what they needed by using their wands. Dawn did feel sorry fo them, but she didnt give it a second thought before the pitty feeling went away. Glancing up at the board again she started on the potion. Started a fire under her cauldron so the water would be boiled by the time she was finished doing the other stepps was what you were suppost to do. Glancing over at a Gryffindor, she noticed she put her ingredients in the water wating for it to boil. "...virus." she said under her breath as he eyes showed no referance of a comment from her mouth.
Starting on the lilac petals she began to crush them into power and pushed then aside as she went to chop the kingbelery vines. After she was finished she noticed her cauldron was boiling. Dawn already kenw the potion and how to make it. Any NEWTS students should have known the procedure by now. Dawn put in the lilac power as she took out her wand. Putting a spell on the stirring stick it begain to stir quickly- just like the step said. After she put in the kingbelery and left the stick stirring untill the desired color was visual.
Sitting back in her chair she watched the liquid start to mix the color wasnt suddenly changed- exactly what she expected. She had some time on her hands as she watched Potter attempt. With a smile on her face she took out her wand. Pointing it to the flame she made the flames die down as she shook her wand back and forth and quckly fixed on a point on the cauldron base. A few seconds after his potion began to leak on to the ground below. If anyone walked near by, they would surly slip. Also, the healing potion was quite something to clean up.
With a smile on her face Dawn turned her attention back to her cauldron. Noticing the color just changing she flicked her wand as the stick stopped to stir. The desired color of white liquid was in her cauldron.

Perseus smiled with euphoria as Professor Snape gave him points for his 'excellent work'. Of course, he no longer felt the elation welled up in his chest when he heard Snape begin to torture Harry. "Never mind that," Perseus thought, as he began to follow the instructions for NEWTs students. The NEWTs potions was a flu/cold elixir for Madam Pomfey, which was extremely easy in Perseus's view. The instructions read:
Perseus scrutinized his cauldron to make sure that his water was fresh as Snape had commented. Surely enough, it was. He took out the exact quantity of lilac petals and crushed it into a fine powder with his "masher", then meticulously dichotomized the kingbelerty vines before cutting it into smaller peices. Looking at the next instruction, Perseus whipped out his wand and whispered, "Enferno!" Jets of green flame spewed out of his wand and burned with extreme intensity as they boiled the potion. Then, Perseus scrupulously added the fine lilac powder into the cauldron while stirring constantly. The potion throthed with prosperity, as he then added kingbelery peices one by one. Taking a hold of his stirring utensile, Perseus stirred the potion with vivacious energy until the elixir began to turn white. At last, the cauldron throthed and boiled with the white substance.

Parvati read the board, sighed and continued with the prepartions. She despised Potions. Not only did Snape strongly dislike the Gryffindors but he always took house points away. No doubt they would be 10 points less by the end of class. Possibly more. She sighed again and shook her head before continuing with her chopping.

Amelai rose from her seat in the corner, she couldn't see the board well at all. She knew Snape would most likely say somthing about her moving seats, but she didn't care. If he was going to deduct points just because she couldn't see the board, so what. She found an empty seat by Parvati Patil. She sighed and sat down, pulling her potion ingrediants towards her.
"Hello Parvati," she said friendly.

Post by Pansy Parkinson S7 on Oct 10, 2004 8:24:35 GMT
Pansy was late to Potions, she knew it but also didn't really care. Potions was the only class that she could show up late for and not expect to get a punishment, she just needed a good excuse and Professor Snape would let her off the hook. Leaving the common room she walked the short distance to the potions classroom. While walking Pansy took out her Potions textbook and looked at it, suddenly a grin appeared on her face as she formulated her plan. Stopping around the corner from Potions, she began to tear pages from the book and began shoving them into her book bag. After about 50 pages had been torn or crumpled up, Pansy turned the corner and walked the last few feet to the classroom.
Upon entering the room she found it rather filled yet there were still a few empty seats. Pansy immediately found her friend Dawn sitting alone and she quickly made her way over to her. "Hey" Pansy said as she set down her bag and began to pull out the pages she'd torn from her book. Then with the book in one hand and many torn pages in her other hand she walked up to the front of the class. "Professor Snape" Pansy said as she approached him. "I'm sorry I'm late, I was leaving the Great Hall earlier today, I had wanted to come here and start my potion early and read about some other potions before class began. Well I was walking and reading my Potions book when Potter hit me and knocked me down! I dropped my book and look!" Pansy said while holding up the book and several torn pages. "Lots of pages ripped out! I also think Potter was running in the hallways because I don't think he even noticed hitting me, he sure didn't stop to help me!" Pansy then sighed heavily and set her pages down on the table. "I tried to fix my book there, but I was so shaken up by Potter hitting me that I forgot the spell I'd need to fix my book."
"Well I'm going to start my potion now" Pansy said as she picked up her pages and her book and turned back towards her desk. Pansy again sighed heavily and sniffed while wiping away a fake tear from the side of her eye as she walked slowly back to her seat then sat down next to Dawn.

Harry Listened to Professor Snape as be started on Harry with in a seconds notice about his water. Screaming about fresh water, Harry didnt anything because anything would make matters worse. Holding his wand over the cauldron all of the water inside of it vanished. With a nother flick of his wrist he amde sure fresh water was inside this time. With a glare Harry looked at the board as the instructions appeared. He really hoped Ron or Hermione was their with him, but if they arrived late he knew all of Gryffindor house would have to start from -0 house points, while Ravenclaw was nearly 100 of points above.
Harry started on his Potion. Gathering up everything he needed he lit a fire under his cauldron as he began his work. Pansy Parkinson walked in, late, which was to be assumed. She walked straight to Snape and began a story about how Harry pushed her. Standing up from his seat Harry spoke. "I did not push Pansy. When I was on my way down to the class I saw Pansy walk into Great Hall to get some breakfast with not a care in the world. We were no where near each other. Plus, Pansy do you have proof I was the one who 'bumped' into you? There are many Gryffindors in this school with dark hair and glasses. You could have easily mistaken me for someone else!" Harry exclaimed as he looked at Pansy wipe away a tear which seemed to be invisable, but surely Snape and his dumb witted self wouldnt notice she was a fraud.

Parvati watched as Pansy accused Harry of knocking her down and ruining her book. She sighed as she realized today's taunting of Harry was just beginning. That girl's evil, genius, but evil. Parvati thought as she crushed her Lilac petals itno a fine powder. She shifted her books a little, to allow room for her to chop her kingbelery vines into "small bits". She hated Potions, always had, always will. She snorted under her breath as she turned the flame on under her cauldron and waited for the water to boil, then grabbing her stirring stick she stirred the water as she added the fine Lilac Petal Powder to the potions. Still stirring, she added a bit of Kingbelery into the potion and then anothe and another, until the potion was a white. She stopped stirring, set the stick down, and leaned back in her seat. Her mind racing. She turned to Amelia and said,
"Argh, stupid Potions. And Pansy just makes it sooo much better. Why cant she just leave poor Harry alone?" She asked, quite agitated with Ms. Parkinson. Pansy was a prat. Who always taunted Harry. She wouldnt leave him alone. She always got hm in trouble, and she caused Gryffindor to lose so many house points. They were already behind as it is and Parvati couldnt believe that Pansy wanted to give them negative points now. She sighed and rolled her eyes, daring a glance at Pansy. She seemed content. That act she just pulled off was horrible, She needs some acting classes, Parvati thought. Surprised at her own thoughts.

Snape stood at the front watching the pathetic attempts by most the students, most of the potions would have to be thrown out. Pointing his wand at the board he put up the next set of instructions. "Your instructions are on the board, i suggest you all follow them! Otherwise most of you will be here doing your potions again tonight and you will stay until they have been done correctly!"
Beginners
3. Ground salt peppers into a fine powder and sprinkle into your potion. Stir potions slowly while potions simmers until it turns a deep purple
OWLS
4. Carefully slice five unther petals and drain unther sap into a vial 5. Add unther sap to the potions and boil potion under a high flame until it turns a deep black
NEWTS
6. Slice five finnwelle berries and remove the seed from each 7. Add finnwelle berries to your potion 8. Add ½ a liter of salt water 9. Stir potion vigorously until it turns a bright green
As he then walked about the room there were some signs of talent in the room. Stopping by Perseus' potion it was well done, "very well done Mr. Feynman, 5 points." Near the front of the class Dawn's potion was also well done, "excellent work Ms. McGrogan, 5 points." As he continued to walk around the room he heard the distinct sound of someone talking, turning quickly he found two Gryffindor girls in conversation. "Ms. Patil, I do not remember saying you could start talking! 5 points from Gryffindor."
As Snape returned to the front of the class Pansy Parkinson came in late. Watching her with a keen eye she approached and showed him a damaged Potions book. Listening to her explain what had happened, Snape narrowed his eyes on Potter. The foolish boy then rose and began to babble on. "Shut up Potter! It's obviously not bad enough that you damaged a book but you are now accusing Ms. Parkinson of being a liar? 10 points from Gryffindor! Now give Ms Parkinson your potion ingredients and you start your potion over from scratch! And Ms. Parkinson, 5 points to you for your traumatic experience"

As anger grew in Liams mind over what Snape had just done, and the fact that Pansy was obviously lying, Liam was about to slam his book against the wall. But, before he did he realized that it would be a stupid thing to, afterall, Gryffindor had already lost to many house points. Liam read the board with great disgust in his eyes and set to finishing his potion.
After getting the salt peppers, Liam began to ground them into a fine powder. Once ground, Liam sprinkled them into his cauldron and slowly stirred his potion, allowing it to simmer until it turned a deep purple.
