Care of Magical Creatures (Ravenclaw & Gryffindor)

[Professor Rubeus Hagrid]

Everyone in the class managed to get a ride and began paddling out onto the lake, Hagrid watched from the shore, admiring the skill of all the students in handling the Hippocampus. After approximately fifteen minutes, Hagrid took up his umbrella and shouted out to the surfacing Hippocampus, "All 'righ' everyone! It's time te' come back to the shore!" The Hippocampus obeyed his orders and swam straight back to the shore. Hagrid waited as the students dismounted and began to discourse among themselves again. Letting the students enjoy the moment, Hagrid took the bundle of seaweed and fed some to each Hippocampus. The multifarious hues of colors reflected the sunlight as the sun hung even lower than in the beginning of the class.

Hagrid stood up after kneeling down to feed the Hippocampus and looked around, feeling a fresh breeze coming their way. "Excellent work, people! Thas' what Care o' Magical Creatures is all 'bout. Right, now, down te' the points. It'll be 5 points to everyone, as everyone rode on the Hippocampus, and succeeded to mount them and 20 points for Jaquin and Nasser, 5 for mounting, 15 for your excellent explanations."

Alexa smiled as patted her hippocampus, “Yes they are. Yours seems to like you a lot.” Justin got on behind her, “Yes, this is one of my favourite classes. Glad to hear we share that opinion.” Alexa held on to the hippocampus’ neck as it began to walk back to the water’s edge; she had already performed the bubble head charm and she smiled a little as the water began to rise around her.

The hippocampus took Alexa and Justin out into the middle of the lake, the water was darker there and you could barely see anything beneath you. “This is great,” she said and patted the hippocampus again. they swam around for a while, the animal occasionally diving a little and coming back up. However after fifteen minutes or so, Alexa was not sure of the time she had been having too much fun; Hagird called them all back in again.

The hippocampuses brought everyone back, and one by one everyone dismounted, Alexa lingered a few seconds more before getting off. “Well it was nice meeting you,” she said and rubbed her hand down the hippocampus’ nose, he nuzzled her and she giggled.

Amelia smiled largly as she uncharmed her head and turned to Ginny, who had also gotten off the Hippocampus.

"Wow, that was cool!" Amelia said, shaking her body so that some water got off her. Amelia then took her up her book bag from the shore and walked up to Hagrid, wondering if there was more to the lesson.

Julie looked at Harry who was smiling at her and had his hand offered in assistance to help her mount the hippocampus. Julie watched the animal warily, ignoring the rest of the class and trying to think of the best way to get on with minimum injuries. To her relief the animal seemed to take to Harry and she scratched the animals head between his eyes, and felt much happier when it suddenly stuck out its tongue and licked her hand. "OK Harry I'm ready to get on. It seems you and I can't sit together for a few minutes without getting wet," she said, remembering their last meeting. She took his hand and hoisted herself on to the horse-like part of the animal, trying to get a firm grip on to its neck without hurting it. She waited for Harry to get on then got out her wand and placed it at her widow's peak and performed the Bubble Head Charm, immediately feeling the expansion of her head from both sides. Harry was now behind her and had performed the charm too, and suddenly the hippocampus started heading towards the lake; whether it was acting of its own volition or Harry had somehow induced it to start half-walking, half-sliding towards the lake Julie wasn't sure.

The water was cold and Julie wasn't too sure she was going to enjoy the ride. She felt her robes get wet as the hippocampus moved further into the water and she held more firmly to the animal's neck. It hadn't dived yet, and for that Julie was grateful. She watched the others slowly follow her and Harry's example. The hippocampus slowly swam around the lake, and Julie was stunned by the gracefulness with which it parted the water around it; this was certainly a change of pace. On the ground its movement had been slow and rather awkward, but now there was something majestic about the grace with which it was swimming across the lake. Just as Julie began to relax though the animal began to dive lower and lower into the lake, and Julie closed her eyes despite herself, hoping everything would end up well. She would really hate it if they met the Giant Squid, as she had no idea what they were supposed to do if they did. A few moments passed and then Julie decided to open her eyes. The hippocampus had lead them to the place where it fed, a kind of boulder with seaweed growing all over it, and Julie watched it rip little pieces of seaweed and chew on them. Small fish were also eating at the seaweed, and soon some of the other hippocampuses came over too. The hippocampus didn’t feed for long, soon it seemed to have eaten its fill and to Julie relief it started moving back to the surface. It swam a little around the lake and then lead them back to the shore, and Harry and Julie got off the animal's back and Julie gave the animal a final pat before she walked back with Harry to Hagrid.

Soaking wet and feeling like a drowned rat Julie tossed her hair back when they stood on the shore and then looked at Harry apologetically. She had accidentally splashed water into his face when she did that. "Sorry Harry," she said, with an apologetic smile. "Finite Incatatem," she said, and her head returned to its normal size. It was interesting how the Bubble Head Charm managed to make you see and breathe under water; she really should look it up and read the theory behind it. She waved at Hagrid before leaving to go back to the school. She was dying to get inside and change her robes; if they didn't hurry they might all catch colds. "See you later Harry. Hope you enjoyed that ride as much as I did!" Secretly Julie was thinking to herself it might have been much worse. Really, that ride was quite enjoyable!

After Julie got herself on to the hippogriff with the slight help of Harry, Harry got on. He sat on the back side of the animal. It was slippy, but he could steady himself. After putting the Bubble Head Charm on himself, he noticed Julie had already done it to herself. With a little nudge of his foot Harry started the animal to more forward into the water.

Feeling the water creep up his leg. He felt his cloak heavy as it soaked up water. Finally being fully emersed in water the Hippogriff just swam around untill it finally dove. The view was exactly like remembered. It was a little hard to see, but he knew the hippogriff would keep them out of harms way under the water. Finally ending at a rock covered in what seemed like food, Harry looked at Julie. She seemed like she was having fun as she looked around the lake. With a nodd, Harry did the same. He didnt remeber this area of the lake- but not like anything looked the same nor different.

After a while of swimmign around the hippogriff finally swam to shore as it let him and Julie dismount. After tapping his forhead with his wand, the bubblehead spell wore off. Slipping his wand back into his soaked cloak- he tryed to wring it out, but nothing worked. Looking over to Julie he said, "That was.. fun." he said with a confused smile. Seeing her wave a good-bye, Harry watched her walk away. A voice said in his head, ' the halloween ball.' those three simple words made Harry act on a moments notice. Jogging after her he caught her shoulder, "Julie." he said as he stood beside her. "Hey, before you go, I was wondering if you had a date for the Halloween ball yet?" He said a bit nervous as he scratched the back of his neck in a shy mannor. "If you dont have anyone to go with I was wondering if you would like to go together?" he asked as he spit out words. This wasnt the normal Harry speaking, and inside voice was speaking all of what Harry wanted to say but couldnt. He stood there in silence as he waited for an answer.
