"Um yeah OK," said Julie, allowing Harry to lead her to the hippocampus. Actually that sounded quite sensible, the Bubble Head Charm wasn't that difficult a charm to use anyway, although your head felt kind of weird until you were actually inside the water. Julie wasn't too sure she wanted to get on the hippocampus, but she felt a bit reassured by Harry's words and smile, and on the count of the three bowed before the hippocampus.
Julie waited for few minutes before anything happened. Then the hippocampus bowed its fine head with a quick arrogant jerk, and Julie looked at Harry with a smile of relief. They were now supposed to ride them. Julie hoped she would get to ride on the horse-like part of the hippocampus. The other half of it seemed far too slippery and with their school robes it was going to be hard enough.

Amelia lead Ginny to a Hippocampus and, seeing others bowing to it; did the same. The Hippocampus did nothing. She frowned. Then smiled as a thought came to her.
"Ginny, maybe we have to bow together for it to work!" she turned back to the Hippocampus and then said-
"Ok, on the count of...five," she laughed nervously then counted. 1...2...3...4...5. And she bowed hoping Ginny did also.

Nasser listened to Hagrid explain what they were going to do today. He wondered what exactly they were going to learn by riding the hippocampuses and then going into the lake. Maybe Hagrid wanted them to learn about the hippocampuses' habitat, or about their behaviour with other underwater creatures? Nasser didn't mind having to go into the water, everything would be OK as long as they avoided the Giant Squid, but they were going to look quite a sight at the end of the class, judging by Hagrid's appearance.
Nasser looked around him for a younger student who didn't have a partner yet. He saw a Gryffindor third year he didn't know very well but had seen in the common room. Nasser walked over him with a friendly smile. "Hey Liam you want to work with me?" he asked.

As Liam watched the hippocampuses, the students in class were beginning to pair up into groups just as Hagrid had told them. Liam looked around the students, hoping to find one without a partner. As he looked around, Liam heard Nasser ask if he wanted to pair up together. "Sure, why not," Liam said.

Alexa Lee studied her watch intently, she had fifteen minutes to her Care of Magical Creatures class; a class she enjoyed. Alexa, unlike most students had decided long ago what she wanted to do with her life, she was going to be a dragon wrangler in Romania, just like both of her parents. There was nothing about dragons that Alexa did not know, she had read every book that had come across her path, no matter how thick or complex it was, she had read everyone, most three times over or more. She got off the couch in the Ravenclaw common room where she was relaxing and headed out of the porthole, through the halls, down the stairs and out onto the lawns; she was heading for Hagrid’s hut.
Rubeus Hagrid, was Hogwarts’ Keeper of Keys and Grounds and more recently the Care of Magical Creatures Professor at Hogwarts, and a fellow that Alexa liked. Hagrid was a large man and kind of hairy, like a big shaggy dog, but that was what Alexa thought was interesting about him, he was not your typical idea of a Professor. She thought his classes were interesting and he was fearless, in her opinion, bringing animals that were sometimes dangerous only if you didn’t know what you were doing. She raced towards Hagrid’s hut, her black hair flowing behind her as she ran. She reached the hut in no time and found Hagrid and a few others were already there, but class had not started yet as she still had five minutes. She saw Harry Potter and Julie Rosewood, as well as Nasser Salah and Ginny Weasley, these were the few people she knew already.
She walked up to everyone, “Hello there Hagrid. Pleasant day isn’t it?” she said with a smile. She then walked over to the others, “Hey guys,” she said with a bright smile, to Harry, Julie, Ginny and Nasser. The only person missing was her friend Sethia, who was great at this class. Unfortunately, this year the Ravenclaws had been put with the Gryffindors, and Sethia was a Hufflepuff. Alexa became friends with Sethia after she started a study group for Care of Magical Creatures and Sethia proved the greatest asset to the group. Class started soon after the greetings were made apparently class was to be down by the lake today and Alexa followed Hagrid there. When she heard they would be studying a marine creature today, she hoped it would be the squid, but she knew it was unlikely, but what they were to learn about would not disappoint her.
Once at the water’s edge Alexa was pleased to see what their subject for class was that day: Hippocampus. Alexa knew a bit about the animals, but she was beaten to the punch by Joaquin and later by Nasser, but she was pleased to see that they knew so much already. After, Hagrid proceeded to tell them more about the animal and told them to get into pairs. Alexa smiled when she heard they would be going into the water on the creatures. She looked for a partner, but there seemed to be none at the moment, it looked like she would be working alone, not that she minded that much. She remembered their class with Hippogriffs, it had been great till Malfoy did something stupid and almost got Hagrid fired. Alexa got back her focus and continued to look for a partner. “Umm does anyone not have a partner?” she asked, to expedite her search.

Justin looked over at the hippocampus and suddenly realised what to do. He then heard Alexa Lee ,a girl he did not know all that well ask if anyone still needed a partner and he piped up and said " I ai'nt got one yet." He walked over to her and said "Would you mind being my partner?" in a polite voice. Then he looked back at the hippocampus as he awaited her reply.

Alexa was looking around for anyone who was without a partner, when a voice chimed in that they had none. She looked around and spotted a Gryffindor boy, Justin, she thought his name was, but she was not entirely sure, she was out of things for so long she really didn’t meet many people in the short time she was at school last year. The boy walked over to her and offered to be her partner. Alexa smiled politely, “Sure, I’ll be your partner.” Alexa followed Justin’s eyes to the hippocampus, “It is amazing looking isn’t it?” she asked, but not really directing her question to anyone.
“I suppose we should get started,” she said and began to walk down to the water and the hippocampus.

Justin said " Well alrighty then." He then heard her say it looked amazing and he agreed. He then herad her say that they ought to get started and headed torwards the water and he followed. When they reached the water ,Justin said " Well how do you suppose we do this?" to him it a looked a wee bit difficult.

Hagrid looked around as the class formed into groups of two and began bowing to the Hippocampus and awaiting response. Harry was the first to bow to his mount, showing impregnable apathy, which the Hippocampus was bound to accept. The Hippocampus that Harry had been working on instantaneously lowered his head in return. "Excellent, 'arry!! Yeh did it! Now all yeh have ter' do is te put on the bubble 'ead charm and mount the Hippocampus.- Turning to the class.- Everyone! Look a't 'arry here! Just follow 'is example an' you'll be fine," Hagrid instructed, as he waved his arms in jesture. The rest of the class began following Harry's example and began to bow profusely, waiting for a Hippocmapus' head to lower. ((After everyone (pair) gets a mount, they will be able to ride out onto the lake. Just so you know, all the Hippocampus are males.  )) |

Amelia smiled as the Hippocampus bowed, rather nervously. She smiled and turned to Ginny. Her heart pounding.
"Ok Ginny, let's get on!" she gulped and turned to the large Hippocampus that had now risen from his bow. Amelia swung a leg over and looked to Ginny, asking with her eyes to get on also.

Alexa looked at Justin, “I suppose we do as we did with the Hippogriff, bow politely and wait for the hippocampus to give its consent for us to mount him.” Alexa looked at the animals before her with that of respect and reverence, she then bowed her head low to it and then half looked at Justin from the corner of her eye to see if he was doing the same, or if he would wait till after she finished. She raised her eyes slowly to the Hippocampus and found that he had bowed his head to her in return, she slowly rose and with very easy, gently steps she approached, her hand slightly outstretched.
As Alexa drew nearer her hand finally touched the Hippocampus’ neck, “There boy. Pleasure to meet you,” she said respectfully, Alexa was always aware that with animals you must never underestimate or disrespect them, after all who could forget Draco Malfoy’s incident. She walked slowly back, dragging her palm gently along his side and then placing them on his back she said the bubblehead charm and pulled herself up onto his back. “Come on Justin,” she said with a smile. She looked around to see who else was up on their Hippocampus, she spotted Nasser and gave him a friend smile, before her eyes moved onto Harry, who was doing remarkably well.

Liam agreed to work with Nasser, so Nasser found the nearest Hippogriff and beckoned Liam to follow him. Nasser looked at the fine creature amazed by its two different halves; the front part of the animal consisting of the head of a brown horse with a mane of light brown hair and a white marking between its eyes, and the other half covered in shiny blue scales ending with the tail of a fish. “OK then Liam, are you ready?” he asked. Liam looked ready enough so Nasser counted to three and then they both bowed before the animal. There was no reaction from the Hippocampus for a moment, but Nasser wasn’t worried. He knew all creatures and especially magical ones needed a few minutes to study and feel more comfortable around anybody they didn’t know.
After a few minutes passed the Hippocampus bowed at the two boys, and just as Nasser was about to take Liam and walk over to the animal and try to mount it, the Hippocampus ran towards the surprised Nasser and nuzzled its head against Nasser’s right shoulder. Nasser grinned and patted the animal’s fine head, and slowly his breathing went back to normal. For a minute he thought the Hippocampus was trying to attack him. “Whoa boy, you gave me a little surprise,” said Nasser, stroking the hippocampus’ mane. Nasser looked around him and watched the progress of the other students around him. As he turned his head, he saw the smiling face of Alexa Lee, and Nasser was filled with a sudden feeling of happiness. “Fine animals, aren’t they?” he asked her as he watched her mount the hippocampus. Alexa Lee had surprised Nasser once when she told him of her interest in dragons. Most girls, and some boys also would have feared working with such creatures, but not Alexa. She was on the hippocampus before even Justin Lionheart, and Nasser admired Alexa’s fearlessness.
Nasser looked at Liam and said “OK Liam you know the Bubble Head Charm? If you don’t remember it just copy me after I do it, you’ll feel kind of weird until we’re in the water. You want to ride on the horse part?” he asked, wanting to give the younger Gryffindor a chance to get on first if he wished.

As Liam stood admiring the amazing creature, he wondered why, in all the books he had read, he had forgotten what this animal was like. But as he stood there looking over the creature, he felt a little taken aback by the wonders of this creature. He wondered if all the magical creatures they would be studying would be this amazing. After he and Nasser bowed, Liam was beginning to wonder if the animal was ever going to move. When it did, it ran toward the older Gryffindor boy and rested his head on Nassers shoulder. Liam couldn't help but laugh, "That is one affectionate animal if I do say so myself."
As Liam watched the animal for a few moments longer, As noticed Nasser looking over at another student. This was no regular looking student to Nasser, Liam could tell there was something between the two of them. "Who's she?" Liam asked the Nasser when he finally turned around.
As Liam heard the question from Nasser, he said, "I know of the charm, but I forget how to do it. And as for which part I sit on, it doesn't really matter."

Hippocampuses. So that’s what Hagrid had in store for them, and the reason why he was dripping water all over the place. Robin crossed his arms across his chest and looked at the creatures interestedly, listening to Jaquin Prokenstein and the Nasser Salah inform the class about the creatures. Robin was slightly amused by Jaquin’s answer. He sounded like a learned professor, and the facts he and Nasser said were certainly quite new to Robin, who could vaguely remember having read about the creatures, but had never seen one of them before, or worked with one.
Robin turned his head away from the creatures and listened to Hagrid explain what they were supposed to do. Right, Bubble Head Charms weren’t difficult according to Robin, but for some reason Hagrid was looking them up in a manual. Robin frowned a little and hoped he hadn’t confused two charms with each other or something. When Hagrid told them the incantation his brow cleared, yes, that was the charm he thought they were supposed to do. Robin could remember seeing that French girl use it in the Triwizard Tournament two years ago.
Robin looked around him at the other students; he needed to find a partner. To Robin’s surprise almost everybody had paired up quickly and almost nobody was left. There was Jaquin though - he still had no partner. Jaquin always seemed too serious to him, but at least that meant he would probably know how to deal with the hippocampus. Jaquin was an excellent dueler though, and Robin always admired a good dueler as he wished to become an Auror after leaving Hogwarts. Robin walked over to Jaquin, thinking he should give him a chance and that he might be more easy-going than he thought. "Hey Jaquin you want to ride the Hippocampus into the lake with me?” he said with a grin. Robin was daring and adventurous by nature, and he didn’t mind having to go into the lake. Robin waited for Jaquin’s response as he looked at the rest of the class beginning to carry out Hagrid’s instructions.

Jaquin finished answering Hagrids question and was meticulously scrutinizing each hippocampus when another student inquired if Jaquin would be his partner. Turning around, Jaquin smiled to see a 7th year Gryffindor, whom he admired; Robin Versnowa, an excellent Charms and DADA student that was probably one of the top three students in his year (Jaquin did not know him well). Stepping forward to where Versnowa was standing, Jaquin replied in a respectful manner, "Of course, Robin. Now which one of these do you prefer?" Jaquin strolled over to a turqiose-bluish tinted Hippocampus that looked particularly intelligent, with an idiosyncratic, calm aura.
"I particularly prefer him.-Jaquin pointed at the magnificent Hippocampus- We'll be safe riding him," Jaquin stated plainly. "Hagrid probably wants us to ride across the lake and back." Jaquin stood back and waited for Robin to answer.

Justin looked on as Alexa bowed and the Hippocampus let her on. Justin looked raound at all his friends and saw that they were doing good so he bowed and waited. When he looked up the Hippocampus had bowed back to him and he gently patted he Hippocampus on it's head and said " Your a very cool animal." he then got on behind Alexa and smiled saying " his is my faviorite class. How 'bout you?"

Jaquin decided that Robin agreed as Robin looked at the other students begin to bow to the Hippocampus. Looking intently into the beady, brown eyes of the Hippocampus they were working with, Jaquin bowed lowly, exhibiting profuse respect and dignity towards the Hippocampus. The horse head turned to Jaquin and in return bowed very lowly. "Great! Come on Robin, lets put the bubblehead charm on and get on!" Jaquin exclaimed with ebullience as he performed the bubblehead charm in a second.

Hagrid looked around with elation, everyone was performing admirably. "Excellent work, Jaquin!" Hagrid commented as he saw the talented student tackle one of the most hard-to-handle Hippocampus. Harry was having no trouble at all, also exhibiting great bravery as he took on the other difficult Hippocampus.
Strolling around, Hagrid noticed that the class was now ready to take a ride in the lake. "'Everyone got a ride? All righty! You can now ride into the lake for the time allowed by your mount!!" In his euphoric mood, Hagrid watched with joy as the students one by one mounted the Hippocampus and rode off onto the lake.

Amelia and Ginny's Hippocampus started to submerg into the water. Amelia's heartw as pounding so hard she could almost feel it in her throat. The surface was now at her waist and the coldness of the lake made her shiver and she looked around fearfully at the dark depths of the lake.
in what felt like ages, they were finally under that water. It was amazing. The seaweed seemed to sway in the curents as the hippocampus started to swim. Other students and their Hippocampus were swiming also.

Harry notice the hippocampus bow at him and Julie. Rasing his body into a normal stance he noticed Julie's smile as he couldnt help but smile back towards her. With a motion from his head he said as he began to walk towards the creature. "Alright, Time for mount." he said as he walked up to the hippocampus. Its face glared at the two as it seemed like it didnt want to be a ride for the two, but it didnt show any signs of agression as Harry petted the side of it. The hippocampus seemed a little bit more warmed up to Harry as he turned to Julie. Holding out his hand for her to grab, he said. "I'll help you mount. Ladies first." Harry said in a joyful tone.
He was excited for the ride into the lake, who knows what things changed down their since he last took his plunge during the Tri Wizard Tournament. Waiting for Julie to grasp his hand, he wondered how Julie was feeling about the hippocampus. If she was frightened or as excited as he was. When they got under water he would find out.
