Post by Professor Filius Flitwick on Aug 28, 2004 17:20:01 GMT
Filius walked into his Charm class room with a smile on his small face. Flicking his wrist at every window the blinds flew to the top and bright sun light flew in from the outside. Secondly, the bottoms of the windows creaked open so fresh air could circulate as well. “Good day, Good Day.” He murmured to himself as he strolled through the room and stacked extra Books in the corner. When he was done with that, he pointed his wand to two fans on the ceiling, they started to rotate. The room was extremely vast, Dark Grey stone walls with dark mahogany floors. Different than any other room the desk faced in from the left and right walls, so anyone could walk to the middle and be seen by all the students.
Charms class today was going to be a review for some students and work for others. It would be a fun activity to do, since it’s a lot of hand eye coordination and brain work.
Student by student stared to arrive. “Hello, Hello, Good Day.” He greeted to a few students as they greeted him. After taking rule Filius started. “Good Morning, Good Day, Hello to everyone. My name is Professor Flitwick and I will be your charms teacher for the rest of the year. This class to some will be meaningless and just a review, but to some this will be a fun class that you will learn things that you may have seen other people do, but never done yourself.” With a breath he went on. “Today, Your first Charms class of the year! I do hope everyone had a good break. And Im glad the 6th years passed your Charms Owls last year and took Charms class for your remaining two years. And for 7th years Im glad you didn’t drop out yet!” With a smile Filius clasped his small hands together and started with a question. “Alright everyone, you know the drill question time. Someone name a spell you did last year that you did use in your everyday life?” It wasn’t a question that needed text book looking, but it needed brain power.

Catalina sat in the Great Hall busily eating her oatmeal as she eagerly eyed the sweet basket that was sitting just a few inches away from her. Taking the last spoonful of oatmeal she smiled and pulled the basket towards her and smelled the sweet aroma that was coming from the warm cinnamon rolls and danishes. Picking one cinnamon roll she put it on her plate and carefully began to unwind it, taking small delicious bites one at a time. As she popped the center of the roll into her mouth she licked her fingers and look up at the clock, her first class was about to start and she needed to get going, she didn't want to be late to the first class of the year! Catalina stood up and slung her bag over her should as she grabbed a strawberry danish from the basket and then headed out the large doors.
Walking up the flight of stairs Catalina soon arrived at the Charms classroom. Entering she found few people present so she had her pick of sections. "Mornin' Professor" she cheerfully said as she entering the first section she walked to the top table closest to the wall and sat down. Unpacking her bag she slid her Charms book down a few seats, her Ancient Runes book she slid down to the seat next to her. Slowly Catalina unpacked her bag until she had put something in the entire section she was sitting in, thereby saving several seats for her friends. As she took her wand out of her pocket, Catalina twirled it while watching the doorway for her friends.

Jaquin woke up extremely early, got dressed and began the tedious job of stuffing his bag with books, articles, and papers with mathematical calculations on it for the day. He paused as he began to put his primeval volume of advanced biology into his satiated bag, and read a few chapters, meticulously imbibing the sophisticated concepts and details the book introduced. Then, throwing the book into the bag, Jaquin headed down to the common room to do some more reading. As the hours went by, the sun rose and sunlight began to filter through the windows of the Ravenclaw common room (situated at the base of the tower). Penumbrae danced about in the room, shifting as the sunlight moved.
Jaquin got up from his armchair and slipped his muggle advanced biophysics textbook back into his bulging bag, as the clock struck seven in the morning. Standing up, Jaquin felt that his intellectual skills had greatly ameliorated in the short time of the summer and felt confident that next year, he would achieve his goals.
In the Great Hall, Jaquin hurriedly stuffed some food into his mouth and began reading his schedule as the resonant sounds of racous and loquacious voices echoed around the hall. Charms was his first class. Jaquin headed up a flight of stairs out of the Great Hall and headed towards the Charms classroom.
Upon entering, Jaquin greeted Professor Flitwick by saying, "Marvelous day for Charms, Professor!" Putting his bag down on a desk in the front row, Jaquin unpacked his books and slipped out his wand, waiting patiently for the class to begin.

Post by dawn on Aug 30, 2004 19:09:26 GMT
Dawn sat in the Great hall. Many first years were around her asking her questions. Actually, in a calm maner she answered them. Dawn was in an odd cheerful mood. She loved being at Hogwarts. Since this year she was a Prefect for the Slytherin house, she had advantages to things, which she loved.
Taking a last sip of her orange juice, she stood up. Grabbing her bag she put it on her shoulder as she made her way out of the Great Hall. Not Pushing or Shoving Dawn turned on to a moving stair case and walked up to her desired floor. Sawying her arms at her side, Dawn walked to her first class of the year, Charms with Professor Flitwick. He was a good teacher but, sometimes his classes were boring. "I wonder what he is planning for today?" Dawn thought as she walked towards the door. Turning into the classroom she noticed only a few people arrived, but not many. Spotting her friend Catalina Dawn gave her a grin.
"Hey Cat." Dawn said as she went to the seat next to her on her left. Picking up a book she set it on the table and slid it towards Cat. "Im claiming this spot." she said with a grin. Sitting Down she turned to Cat. "Today is a good day for me, odd eh?" shaking her head she went on. "So, I hear you are Head Girl! Congrats!" she said as she sat back in her chair and listened to Flitwick start the class.
Dawn had talked to a few people from other houses. She never disapproved of non Slytherin's, its just she was picky about who she conversed with. Cat on one hand was a Pureblood also when she arrived in Hogwarts her first year Cat was one of the first people to talk to her, so ever since then she was on Dawn's good side as a friend.

Post by Perseus Feynman on Aug 30, 2004 19:29:22 GMT
It was five in the morning when Perseus got up in his dormitory. Although it was generally chilly in the dungeons, today seemed to be an idiosyncratic day; it was at a constant temperature of about 60 degrees F. Perseus, not wanting to disturb his roommates, meticulously and clandestinely unpacked his books from his trunk and put them into his bag. The dark gray walls around him reflected a gloomy ambiance, although Perseus was in an apathetic mood. Slipping out his Princeton University advanced physics volumes, Perseus began his advanced calculus exercises as he imbibed information from the advanced textbook. Perseus felt that these concepts were very rudimentary as he worked on. Evidently, over the past summer, Perseus's intellectual power and skills had meliorated prodigiously.
There was no sunlight in the dungeons, only the flickering torches and candelights illuminated Perseus's dormitory. Penumbrae danced upon the floor where the torch light was blocked and the typical wailing of the Bloody Baron could be heard faintly. Today, according to Perseus's schedule, he would be attending Charms class. So, at 7 o' clock, Perseus headed up into the entrance hall and turned around the corner, striding into the thriving throngs of tumultuous and exasperating students. Quickly, stuffing down a breakfast consisting of healthy vegetables and bacon, Perseus headed up a few flights of stairs until he reached the Charms classroom.
Entering, he greeted Professor Flitwick with his usual smile and 'a good morning for charms' before spotting Jaquin. Perseus strode forward to where Jaquin was seated and sat down next to him saying, "Long time no see, Jaquin!"

Julie Rosewood looked at her reflection in the mirror in the Ravenclaw's girls dormitory as she rolled her hair into a bun, a long stick a bit like the chopsticks the Chinese used to eat with between her teeth. "Why don't you just leave it like was my dear?" asked the mirror. Julie looked at the mirror and shook her head with a small grin. She wondered what the mirrors in the boys' dormitories were like, and if they always wanted the person reflected in them to be as beautiful as possible. Not that Julie paid that much attention to her looks anyway, but she did like to leave her hair over her shoulders. Today she had Charms however, and Julie was a sensible girl and she didn't want her hair to be in the way. She stuck the stick into her hair and then another one and patted her bun.
Julie looked at the clock on the wall. 10 minutes for Charms class. Julie had already finished breakfast earlier, so she walked to class calmly excited to begin her first NEWTs class. She had scored an O on her OWL, but wasn't too sure she would do so well in NEWTs. The O had been a nice surprise but had required a lot of work and practice. Julie smiled at her Head of House Professor Filius Flitwick, who was perched on top of his usual pile of books. "Good morning Professor," she said. Flitwick was a good professor, patient and not as strict as McGonagall, and he always tried to make sure his students did their best in his class.
Julie's face fell though when she saw all her friends were already seated in the first row together. She could see an empty place in the second row just behind them though. She tapped her friend Jaquin Prokenstein on the shoulder and said, "Hey there, long time no see. Catch you after class," she said with a smile at him. She walked over to Cat and said, "Good morning, Headgirl". She then placed her new Charms textbook on the seat behind Cat and pulled out her quill and pieces of parchment on her desk. Professor Flitwick had just asked a question. Julie remembered one of the useful Charms they had learnt last year and raised her hand waiting to be called upon.

Post by Harry Potter on Aug 30, 2004 22:04:14 GMT
Harry stood up from the Gryffindor table in the Great Hall and made his way out of the vast room filled with people. Mansy students stood in the aisles conversing about their summer events as Harry passed through the crowds. A few people whispered about Voldemort's power rising, those were the conversations Harry heard and actually listened too, since he had no one now to tell him about what Voldemort will and was up to and anything could be a clue.
Finally reaching the main hallway. Harry walked acrossed the marble floor towards the stairs. Walking up a stair case he made his way to his first Newts class and first class of the year, Charms.
Getting off at the seventh floor, Harry went down the left hallway towards the Charms classroom. A wooded door with an arch over top was seen in front of Harry, the door to Charms class. Pushing it open he noticed the room was set up how it always was. The seats were both lined up on the walls in two rows and facing to the middle of the room. Walking down the middle aisle Harry didnt see Hermione there yet. Looking on the other side of the room he notice Julie. He had a good coversation with her on the way to Hogwarts. Steppin on to the riser, Harry went to the back roaw were she sat. "Hello Julie." he said as he sat down next to her. Noticing in front of her Dawn, the new Slytherin Prefect and Catalina, the head girl sitting in front of them.
Professor Flitwick spoke as Harry held his wand in his hand and listened to his question.

Watching students filter into the class Filius smiled at each. "Eye! Im glad we have one bright eye in the class room today. Miss Rosewood. Please tell me a spell you learned last year that you did actually use in every day life." Filius said with a smile as he waited her answer. ((Yes, You can Still post in Charms class if you did not yet. I just wanted to get the class started since we have so many classes ready for this month! You may post like you have been in the class all along, or that you have came in late. Its your call. ))

Gram woke Up late. He quickly ran into the bath room and jumped into the shower. Getting fully dressed, with his hair still wet. He put on his shoes, grabbed his wand, and darted toward the seventh floor.
Running up the stairs, Gram bolted down the hallway to the charms classroom. Slidding on the floor Gram grabbed the door way and held himself up. Walking into the room a few people's hands were in the air, but the class didnt start just yet. 'yes! score!' gram though as he went to the left side of the room and grabbed a seat. Quickly running his hand through his damp hair and waited for Filitwick to go on with his class.

Post by Savannah Johnstone R7 on Aug 30, 2004 23:11:55 GMT
Ancient Runes was one of Savannah’s favorite subjects, and Charms was another. Yet to have them both back to back was a real treat, a grand way to start off the day. After an enjoyable first class she walked down the hallway a few classrooms and entered the Charm’s class. Several of her friends were already present and it appeared as if Catalina had saved an entire section for her friends. Walking up the step and walking over to the table she saw Dawn was there as well. A sly grin played across Savannah’s face, even though Dawn was a Slytherin she was pretty cool, shocking more was the fact that Savannah was half blooded and yet Dawn didn’t hate her. Of course their first meeting was quite fun and Savannah proved that she wasn’t one to be pushed around.
Sitting down no the other side of Dawn, Savannah took out her wand and laid it flat on her table while sliding her bag under her seat. “You’re in a good mood today, whats up?” She asked Dawn while the last minute stragglers filtered into the class. “When the professor asked a question, Savannah raise her hand.

Julie smiled at Professor Flitwick when he called upon her to answer the question. "One spell we learnt last year which can be used in daily life is the Ferula Charm. The Ferula Charm is used to produce bandages to wrap around small cuts or wounds. The charm is performed by saying the incantation and pointing your wand at the injury and turning it quickly in a clockwise direction. If performed correctly, a white bandage should unravel from the tip of your wand and wrap itself tightly round the injury," she said, remembering having just used the charm recently when she was working in one of the greenhouses and accidentally hurt herself with her shears.

Post by versnowa on Aug 31, 2004 10:32:01 GMT
Robin Versnowa walked to Charms vowing to work harder than usual at it this year. A minimum of five NEWTs was required if you wanted to start Auror training, including Charms, Transfiguration, Defence against the Dark Arts and Potions. Robin enjoyed Charms as Professor Flitwick was an easy-going professor who was patient when you didn't get the charm right on the first time, which was more than you could say for Snape.
Robin got to class just as it was starting, greeted the professor quickly and then took a seat beside another seventh year Hufflepuff, Gram Tonovan. Flitwick had just asked a question about Charms they had learnt and found useful in their daily life, and two Ravenclaw girls raised their hands to answer them. Flitwick called upon Julie Rosewood to answer the question, and she described a charm Robin remembered learning about last year.

Charms was certainly not one of Celina's favourite classes. Professor Flitwick in Celina's opinion was too much of a softy to be taken seriously. She had nothing against the poor fellow but sometimes she wished he would be a little more strict. Her preferences had always been with serious, strict teachers who were in total control of their classes and students. These were the type of professors that earned her respect most easily. Of course, it wasn't that she didn't respect Flitwick, for she certainly did. It was just that she felt Charms would be a lot more interesting if Professor Flitwick was more like Professor McGonagoll. These were thoughts that played at the back of her mind as she headed to her first class of the new term.
Opening the door and walking in, she was greeted by the smiling face of Professor Flitwick. In an instant, her doubtful, less-than-eager-to-study mood disappeared, as she remembered how much fun Flitwick really was. "Mornin' Prof," she said, a wide smile spreading across her face as she scanned the classroom for her friends. Upon spotting Catalina and Dawn, she walked over to them and placed her books next to Catalina. "Hey, guys!" she said with a grin, as she sat down.

Alex walked hurriedly to his Charms class. He had taken far too long at breakfast in the Great Hall and was now rushing to his first class of the semester. "I'm late!!" he thought to himself as he jogged towards the door of the classroom. Upon opening it though, he realised he had made it just in time. Filius had just gotten up and was walking to the centre of the classroom. "Good morning, Professor," greeted Alex as he made his way to the back of the class. Two seventh-year boys were sitting there. He didn't know them too well, only by name. There was a Hufflepuff and a Gryffindor. No Ravenclaws though. "Oh well," thought Alex as he took a seat beside one of them. Turning to face the other two boys, he said, "Hello there. I'm Alex!" before turning to face the professor.

. “Okay, Very well then. Are we ready to begin?” before anyone could answer, he started. “We are going to play a fun activity. That will strengthen you agility and a simple spell.” With a flick of his wrist 5 glass spheres levitated in the air above the front table.
“Alright as you all can see each sphere has its own color, Red, Yellow, Blue, Black, and clear. Or no color. Inside each sphere is colored oil. When I call on you I will tell you a color. Accio the spheres that you would mix to make the color. You will mix the two colors together by the spell, Transfigorus Totallus. That spell blends 2 idem together to make one.” Taking a breath he went on. “As you know Oil doesn’t mix. This is why we need this spell. When you use this spell this is what happens. The glass from each sphere combines, inside the oil will appear to be gone. The spheres will be empty, but then oil will mix together in air particles and make the color I choose.” With a smile It looked like he lost half the class, and the other side of the class was to busy talking.
“Going on…. To do the Transfigorus Totallus spell you will have to do two counter clockwise motions. Second a quick swoop from right to left, then lastly a Flick. Everyone Try.” He said as he waited for people to practice. He was working faster in his NEWTS class since they are more advanced than the other years. After awhile he started again. “Alright, when you flick you will do the Transfigorus Totallus spell. Don’t practice. Your first try will be when I call on you.” With a Breather he sat down and said, “Any questions? This is the time to do so.” He insisted as he waited for a hand to rise.

Gram noticed a guy from the same year come in to Charms. Sitting close to Gram he introduced himself. "Hey Alex. As Flitwick instructed, Jaquin began to practice the spell, retracing each of the arm and hand movements. The instructions were simple: Flitwick would tell a student what color to create, and the student would summon the spheres that are required for the color. Then, they would amalgamate the spheres together implementing 'Transfigorus Totallus' to create the color Flitwick asked for. As other students raised their hands, Jaquin, feeling that the task at hand was nothing disquieting, also raised his hand for Flitwick to call upon.

Looking around his NEWTS class hardly anyone reacted to his statement. "Alright now we will begin." Filius stated as he fixed his glasses and looked at the spheres. "Jaquin, are you ready?" he asked with a smile on his face. "Please make the color Green." Filius said as he stood at his podium in front of the class waiting for Jaquin to react to his statment.
(( Even if some people dont raise their hands I will call on you. I will IM you and tell you I have called on you. Also, If anyone has other classes in my other charms classes they will soon end, while this NEWTS class will stay in operation for a few more days. ))

Jaquin was surprised that he was called on first, as a horde of people usually volunteered. "I'm ready, Professor," Jaquin assured. Taking up his wand, Jaquin chanted his first spell, as he pointed at the spheres of blue and yellow, which would create green, "Accio!" The spheres levitated into the air and flew with prodigious speed towards Jaquin, where he caught them in his outstretched hands. After setting the two spheres down onto the elongated desk, Jaquin raised his wand and began to perform the finishing spell. He guided his wand in two counter clockwise motions, made a quick swoop from right to left, and then flicking his wand meticulously at the spheres, he bellowed, "Transfigorus Totallus!!"
The spell created a flash of blinding white light as the spheres amalgated into a sphere that was filled with green oil that was a bit darker than typical. "I guess I mixed too much blue," Jaquin said uncertainly.
