Kiyla walked into the Runes class late. She walked in the room to see the class there already and they had runes on their desks. She glanced arond the room for a place to sit and saw a desk by Ivy. Kiyla, who was so embarrassed, quickly walked over to the desk where Ivy was sitting. When she got there the desk started moving a little. Kiyla yelped in surprise as it shook then quickly recovered and sat down next to Ivy and whispered "What did I miss?"

Savannah watched Valerie next to her struggle to get her Runes to work. Valerie struggled a bit in class and Savannah had seen it before and always tried to help her. Never though had she seen something this bad, as a tear dropped down Valerie's face Savannah couldn't sit by anymore. "Here" she said as she reached over and turned the runes around "Put your fingers here and here" she said pointing the two runes, "and try it again, look at the box you want and stare at it, try to stare right through the box, and keep saying Kal Yeem over and over again" Savannah said and gave Valerie a reassuring smile.

Juliette watched as most students managed to perform the runic magic, some were still summoning their boxes but the majority were prepared for the next step. “As I see most of you have gotten your boxes, the next spell you will be to unlock your boxes. You will need two runes for this, EX, and YLEM. YLEM again works on an object, EX will free something, so in this spell you will be freeing the lock, or unlocking it.” Waving her wand, Juliette moved the tworunes on the blackboard into a new formation. “To cast the unlocking spell you will need to arrange your runes in the form of a straight line, EX should be top, and YLEM should be below. Again you must foc….” Juliette paused in the middle of her sentence as she saw a Hufflepuff enter class. Looking at her watch she watched the girl sit down. “Miss Johnson, I suggest you invest in a watch, this class started 15 minutes ago. 5 points from Hufflepuff! Now get your runes and get to work.” Returning her attention to the rest of the class she continued. “As I was saying, you must focus on your lock while chanting Ex-Yeem, it may take several tries depending on the complexity of the lock that is on your box. Once your box is open you may enjoy your treat that waits inside your boxes. Now then if there are no questions you may begin.” She then watched the students begin to work on unlocking their boxes for inside each box was a Honey Dukes’ chocolate bar.
As the students returned to their work, she walked over to a table in the front of the room where sat Miss Rice, she was currently being assisted by Miss Johnstone. “Miss Johnstone, thank you for your help, you may return to your box now.” She said as she knelt down in front of the desk. “Miss Rice, I want you to take a few deep breaths and close your eyes, your mind is not focused right now.” After she had done so, Juliette continued. “Now, I want you to forget about everyone else in the room, put all your thoughts onto your box, and visualize your box floating to you, and repeat with me “Kal-Yeem.”

Kiyla sank down in her seat and groaned angrily at herself as the Professor told her 5 points would be taken. She could feel people looking at her. What a way to start out a class! Kiyla thought saracastically. She looked at Ivy helplessly.

Ivy sighed in despair as Kiyla walked into the class an entire fifteen minutes late. She had wondered what had happened to Kiyla, it wasn't like her to do this. Ivy guessed she must have been rather preoccupied.
Ivy glanced sympathetically at Kiyla, sitting beside her, and then returned to the task at hand. "Kal yeem!" she said loudly. The chest nearly made it to her desk, rather unluckily hitting the edge and toppling to the floor with a loud thud. Ivy gave a sigh of exasperation and fetched the chest from behind her table.
Ivy turned to Kiyla, saying, "The instructions are all on the board. You can get a bag of runes from that cabinet over there and take it from there," she said, indicating the cabinet. Once Kiyla had returned with the bag, Ivy instructed her as to which runes she would need, pointing out the T they had to form still shown on the board. "It's hard," she warned Kiyla. "And don't worry, it's not the end of the world." Ivy said, trying to comfort her friend.
Ivy then returned to her own chest. She arranged the runes 'EX' and 'YLEM' as Professor Vector had explained. She focused on the lock, although still thinking about Kiyla. Trying to explain things was not one of her strong points. "Ex yeem," she chanted. Nothing happened.
Ivy attempted to clear her mind and then tryed again. The lock started to ease open but sprang shut again as someone else's chest clattered to the floor and Ivy's concentration was broken. Ivy was determined to do this. However many tries it took her.

He leaned over and picked the box up off the floor, and now examined the lock. His seemed to be a rather intricate one. His face became more intensly focused as he pushed the KAL run towards the pile he had on the back of his desk and brought EX forward. He placed it over YLEM, so that they formed a line.
Happy with the rune arangement he looked from them, to the lock in total silence and conentration--as was his usual method of doing a spell. He wanted to make sure that everything was perfect before he ever attempted it outloud.
After a long moments, had passed, he finally said the rune spell outloud
"EX YEEM" Loudly, and with a confident force.
The lock, while it clicked loudly, did nothing on the lines of movement.
His brows narrowed unhappily. He did not like it when his attempts did not give him the results he wanted, but then he never did get unlocking spells the first time.He repeated the attempt, a little louder and slower
"EX YEEM"
To his delight, this time the lock slid open. He had to lift the lid himself, but at least the spell had worked.
Peering inside the chest, he spiled, as he pulled out his chocolate reward. HE alwats did have a sweet tooth

Catalina looked quite intrigued when Professor Vector mentioned that they could enjoy their treat inside the box. She immediately set to work setting up her two runes, EX and YLEM. "EX-YEEM" she said and heard a small clicking noise. Grabbing the lid she tried to open it but found it to be locked still. "EX-YEEM" again she said and once more heard the click but the lock remained secured. "EX-YEEM" she said a few more times and each time a few more clicks where heard. At last the lid was free and lifted off the box. Peering into the box, Catalina found a chocolate bar! Taking it out she looked at it as if it were pure gold. Carefully unwrapping it, she broke off a corner and took a bite.

Savannah looked up when the professor joined them and said she could return to her own work. As the Professor began to help Valerie, Savannah picked out her next runes, EX and YLEM. Neatly setting them in a straight line she looked at her box, Catalina of course was busily trying to get into her box since there was some sort of treat inside. "EX-YEEM" Savannah calmly said and saw her lock vibrate ever so slightly. "EX-YEEM" she again repeated and the lock jiggled a bit more. "EX-YEEM" she said this time with a hint of annoyance in her voice, which did the trick as the lock sprung open. Flipping the lid up Savannah looked inside the padded box and found a Honey Duke's white chocolate bar. Turning to her left Catalina had also gotten her bar and in usual fashion she had already started into it. Taking the candy bar, Savannah put it into her bag, Caty loved white chocolate best of all, so this could come in handy at some point during the day.

Post by Jaquin Prokenstien on Sept 6, 2004 2:23:11 GMT
Jaquin had to wait for most of the class to finish their first task before the Professor continued the instructions. After listening to the instructions, Jaquin felt that the second was going to be more sophisticated; his was an amalgamation of a key lock and a combination (turning) lock. Taking up his runes with a hint of anxiousness on his face, Jaquin peiced together the runes EX and YLEM in a straight line. Then, holding the runes tight in both fists, Jaquin concentrated on the box, chanting, "Ex Yeem!" The spell only turned the spinning part of the lock with prodigious speed and jiggle the box.
Perhaps the problem with Jaquin's spell was that he was focusing on the box instead of the lock. So, Jaquin began contemplating and focusing on the convoluted mix of two types of locks, tracing through how the locks opened and closed and how the gears moved. After picturing this in his mind, Jaquin formed the straight line with both runes and pointed it at the box with all his will. "Ex Yeem!!!" he semi-shouted. The box's locks turned and clicked with the metallic sounds of clockworks before the antediluvian, wooden lid of the chest sprang open. Inside the chest was a Honeydukes chocolate bar, covered in hazelnut pieces which was Jaquin's favorite flavor.

Kiyla looked helplessly at Ivy again after she told her to look on the board of instructions. She had NO idea what was happening. She cursed herself for coming in so late; she had missed the begining of the lesson and she would be behind. She looked around the class so see students working intently with their runes. She wanted to cry but she sucked it in and moved the runes that she didn't need aside and formed a little T with with her two runes. She had no idea what she was supposed to do. She didn't know why she signed up for this class in the first place. She knew this class was not going to go so well. She fought back her tears and she heavied a sigh and said, "Kal yeem" nothing happened, but Kiyla wasn't so sure what was supposed to happen. She paused for a minute and cleared her thoughts and read what was on the board once more. She turned her attention to see a girls box move towards her. "oh ok so I have to summon the box." Kiyla thought moving her hair out her face. "Kal yeem." Kiyla said more calmly with her voice shaking slightly and nothing happened. She knew why. Her thoughts had been wondering what happened to her over the summer mixed with concern for Ivy. She scolderd herself and cleared her thoughts again. And finally after several tries it worked. Kiyla smiled weakly at Ivy but her smile dropped when she saw how far behind she was. She sighed again and thought to herself sadly, "This is going to be a long, long, class."

Valerie sighed and felt herself turning bright red. Not only were the people sitting with her now helping her, but the professor had come over to see what was going on. Taking a deep breath as instructed she lined up her two runes again "Kal-yeem" she said with her eyes closed, concentrating on seeing the little box flying towards her. "Kal-yeem" she again said, opening her eyes she looked at the box "Kal yeem." Slowly the box lifted into the air and floated across the room landing softly on the table. With a sigh of relief, Valerie looked at the board, she had to now open the box somehow. Arranging her next two runes, she looked at the box hoping to get it open soon. "Ex-Yeem" she began.

Juliette walked about the classroom observing the students and their progress. It appeared that most had by now managed to get their boxes open. Miss Rice had also gotten her box from the front table, "Excellent Miss Rice! 5 points! Now work on opening the lock, remember block out all other distractions and you can do it!" Looking at Miss Johnstone and Miss Cavales, they had both managed to open their boxes, "Well done girls, 5 points to each of you." Getting up she walked around the room and watched the progress of the class. "Very well done Mister Prokenstein, take 5 points for your house. Miss Rosewood, you're quite the natural at this, 5 points to Ravenclaw." Towards the back of the room she continued to walk, "Mister Leopold, very nice work, 5 points for you, and Miss Tunstall, I see you've got the hang of it, good job 5 points to you." She then looked at the clock, there wasn't much time left in class so they'd have to wrap things up for the day. Turning to the class she addressed them. "Now that you have your boxes unlocked, the last two spells we will do today will be reversal spells. You will now lock your boxes, then send them back to the front table. First to lock them, you will again need *EX* and *YLEM* which you used to unlock them, however since you are locking, you will also need *AN* The rune *AN* has a negating power, so when you line *AN* *EX* and *YLEM* up in a straight line, and cast AN-EX-YEEM your box will eventually lock itself. Once that is completed you will send your box back to the front, earlier you summoned your boxes using *KAL* and *YLEM* To send them back you will also add *AN* You will once more make the *T* shape, with *AN* and *KAL* forming the base of the T, and *YLEM* making the top. You may now begin.

Kiyla sighed a little as she finally got the box to come towards her after what it felt like 50 times. She looked up at the board to see that she had to open the box. She got the other runes and arranged them and said, "Ex Yeem." The box stayed put. Kiyla looked around the classroom to see everyone ahead of her. She wanted to burst into tears but held herself together. She didn't need to cry now. She'd save that for later. Clearing her thoughts once more she pictured the box opening and said, "Ex Yeem." And nothing happened. She knew that her thoughts weren't entirely cleared so she tried again. "Ex Yeem." She said again closing her eyes and picturing the box opening. She opened her eyes to see the box shake a little bit but then stopped. She was frustrated by now. She took a deep breathe and cleared her mind of all distractions and thoughts and said, "Ex Yeem." The box opened finally and Kiyla looked into the box to get the candy bar. She smiled a little but her smile instantly dropped when the Professor said they had to reverse the spell. Kiyla groaned and closed her eyes and almost wanted cry again. Her leg was jumping by now, it did that whenever something was wrong with Kiyla. She looked at Ivy to see her doing well and she wished that she could get the hang of it. She sighed and began to arrange her runes again grabbing the 'AN' rune.

Catalina was happily enjoying her chocolate when Savannah got her box open. Looking over at it, she could have sworn that see saw Savannah pull a white chocolate bar out of the box but quickly slip it into her bag. There was however no time to inquire about it as they were instructed to continue with the lesson, locking the box, then sending it back to the front. Closing the lid of her box, she then neatly arranged her runes into a straight line, "An-Ex-Yeem" she said and saw part of the lock snap shut. "An-Ex-Yeem" she again repeat and more clicks were heard as the lock secured itself. Discarding her EX rune into her bag, Catalina grabbed the KAL run and again made the shape of the T. "AN-KAL-YEEM" She said which caused the box to lift up off her desk, float a few inches away then fall to the ground. "AN-KAL-YEEM" she repeated and the box rose a few feet before falling to the ground once more. It was slow progress, the box would lift up a bit fly a bit towards the table then crash back down again. Finally after the 6th try, Catalina managed to get her box onto the table. Heaving a sigh of relief, she began to pack up her runes into her bag and got out her notebook to take down their homework for the day.

Juliette smiled as Catalina was the first one to finish, waving her wand at the board the student's homework appeared. "Once you have finished, copy your homework and then you may go."
(( Homework: Look at the list of Runes in the class page. You need to try and put runes together to make spells. For homework you need to try at least 3 new spells and also write what you believe the spell will do. Please IM your homework to me, all homework must be in by 5pm Pacific time, September 13th. If you have more than one student in class, put all their names on your homework, you only need to do the homework one time ))

Almost as soon as Ivy had managed to unlock her chest and to her delight discovered a nut-covered Honeydukes chocolate bar inside, she found Professor Vector giving more instructions for yet another spell. Feeling really rather inadequate, seeing that one student had finished already, Ivy attempted the spell with some frustration several times, without producing any results. She forced herself to concentrate and after a couple more spells completed the spell. Copying the homework down off the board, Ivy packed up her things, but waited in the room, partly because she wasn't sure whether she was supposed to show Professor Vector her work, and partly because she thought she should wait for Kiyla.

While he struggled with unlocking a box--the quick conclusion would be right. He never had any trouble making something lock back up again. He arange the tree runes ont he desk in front of him, placing AN on top of EX and YLEM so they formed a sraight line. He then repeated the sharm outloud.
"AN-EX-YEEM"
And to his delight the box quickly locked back up again. He smiled slightly, but could not help but think he would probably have to sturggle again if he wanted to unlock the box.
He then returned the EX rune, and retrieved the KAL one, aranging them into the 'T' shape the Profressor had told them to use.
He focused his attention straight on it for a long moment, trying to focus on the negative eggects of the AN rune before he finally, put his efforts into saying the charm outloud.
"AN-KAL-YEEM"
He said, loudly and slowing. His focus used for the summoning spell earlier payed off, as the box, whiel still with no real grace, did as the spell was supose to, and it moved to the front table.
Smiling at his sucess, he copied down his homework, thinking about how he had to get started on it that night.

After arranging her runes Kiyla said, "AN EX YEEM" and nothing happened. She said it again and again but nothing happened. She decided to try once more. "AN EX YEEM!" Kiyla nearly screemed at the box but nothing happened. Kiyla glared angrily at her box ready to throw it across the room. With a smirk Kiyla picked up her box carefully about to throw it when the Professor dismissed the class. She degrudgingly put down her box and hurriedly wrote down the homework. While standing up she accidently kncoked her candy bar off her lap. She groaned in frustration as she bent down to pick it up, but as she was bending down someone walked past her crushing her candy and stepping on the tip of her finger. Kiyla didn't notice the crushed bar until she let go ofher hurt finger. She gazed down at the candy and saw it all messy and squashed. Anger flowing through her blood she looked to see who the person was who stepped on it but they must have already left the room. She wanted to scream, she wanted to cry but instead she picked up her "candy bar" and throw it in the nearest garbage. She was about to storm out of the class when she realized the Ivy was there waitign for her. She turned to Ivy and signaled for her to follow her. "Please don't let the rest of the day be this bad." Kiyla said with tears brimming in her eyes.

Professor Vector then proceeded to explain their next task. Julie selected the runes she would need, arranged them in the order the professor described and proceeded in trying to unlock her box. Luckily enough her lock was not too complex and after a few trials it unlocked, revealing a chocolate bar. Julie pulled it out and smiled a little then popped it into her mouth. It was crispy, but Julie swallowed it quickly as Professor Vector already had their last task written on the board.
Julie sighed inwardly as she saw the task. Reversal spells were never easy. Julie again followed the Professor's instruction best as she could, and after a few trials the lock did close, but it would not fly back to where it had been before. Julie looked around her and saw that Cat was done, and she called her over to help her. "Quite the natural indeed," thought Julie to herself raising her eyebrows. Cat showed Julie her mistake, which had been in the arrangement of the runes, and then Julie packed up her stuff quickly and left the class after scribbling down her homework.
