(( This class is only for those who signed up to take it. Also this is a classroom not a social hall, this is not the place to have a running conversation with someone. The Ancient Runes page will be important, I suggest you go look at it before class begins, it's in the Class section.))
Juliette Vector's classroom was on the 2nd floor near a stairwell to the Great Hall. Though it was quite a busy walkway, enough charms had been placed on the door and walls to dampen the sound. This was a necessity for such a subject as Ancient Runes which required great concentration. Ancient Runes was the ancient art of magic that was used before wands. The entire classroom was carpeted with a soft white carpet that was spotless and always soft as a feather. The center of the room had twenty oak student tables with two cushioned swivel chairs at each table. The wall opposite of the door was lined with cabinets that were all locked. Within were scores of runes, which would soon be in use. The back wall contained two large windows that let ample amounts of sunlight in the area, also by the windows sat four pale blue couches. Under the windows sat a small cabinet that contained a couple wizard chess boards, as well as about a dozen other games. To Juliette, a good classroom was one that students enjoyed coming to, she did her best to make sure that her class was comfortable enough for students to do their best work, though foolishness was quickly dealt with and the offender soon found that they no longer had any privileges in the class. When not teaching a class, Juliette would allow any student who so desired to come to her room to study, relax or simply talk and hang out. Today was no exception as a pair of Hufflepuffs had set up shop on the couches and were busily engulfed in a game of wizard's chess.
As Juliette sat at her desk in the front of the room she went over the roster of students she would be seeing very soon. Flipping through her lesson for today, it would be a fairly easy one. It would also be a good chance to weed out those who simply didn't have the patience or ability to handle the concentration required to use runes. Glancing at her watch, there was just a few minutes until the class would begin. "Mister Patterson, Miss Jennings, Runes is about to start, you may return later if you wish." The pair of Hufflepuffs then got up and waved goodbye before leaving the classroom. Now in silence, Juliette awaited the arrival of the students to begin the new term.

Valerie Rice left the Hufflepuff common room with her bag fairly light. As it was her 7th year she had to take her NEWTS and that was stressful enough, luckily she wasn't taking a full class load as she would never in a million years be able to pull it off. With a smile she entered the Ancient Runes classroom, which was one of the few classes she did well in. She also liked Professor Vector a lot, especially since she was very nice to her. "Hi Professor" Valerie said as she walked over to her usual desk in the front of the class and sat down. Putting her wand in her bag and then her bag on the floor she eagerly looked over at the cabinet that held the runes.

Savannah woke up to find the sun gently beating upon her face. Sitting up she pulled back the curtain from her bed and looked about the dormitory to find herself alone. No Catalina, Dorian, Julie, or Celina, "where'd you girls go?" She wondered as she kicked off her covers and got out of bed. Walking across the soft carpet Savannah went to her closet and took out her uniform and a robe and changed out of her pajamas. Her next destination was to the washroom where she put in her contacts, brushed her teeth and brushed out a few tangles from her long black hair. Upon returning to her dormitory Savannah neatly packed her books into her bag then snapped it shut and carried it out the room and out of the Common Room.
Ancient Runes was her destination today and her watch told her that she would simply have to skip breakfast today as she was running behind schedule. It didn't matter to Savannah though, she was perhaps one of the only people who didn't really care for the food here. Walking in the classroom she was greeted by a few students and the professor. The room itself was quite nice with bright sunlight entering from the back windows to the soft white carpet. "Hey Professor" Savannah said as she walked in and took a seat in the front right next to Valerie. "hey girl" she said while flinging her bag down and sitting down.

He had memorized his schedual the moment it was placed in his hand, and after his charms class that morning, he ran down to the great hall for a quick lunch so he had time to run back up to the Ravenclaw rooms to grab some fresh parchment before trotting off to Professor Vector's class room. Runes were one of his favorite classes. He could still remember how excited he had been when he was old enough to pick electives. It was one of the first ones he had signed up for.
He now stepped into the class, this time not cutting it close close to the bell
He took his seat, and nodded a hello to the professor "Professor Vector" he said to her, his usual way of saying hello

Catalina walked into the Ancient Runes classroom with her strawberry Danish still in hand. “Mornin’ professor” she said as she walked into the room and sat down next to Savannah and Valerie. “Top o’ te mornin’ to ye girls!” she cheerfully said to Valerie and Savannah. Then sliding the Danish and napkin on the desk she pushed it over to Savannah. “I got it fer ye, I knew ye weren’t goin’ ter eat tis mornin’, we tried ter wake ye up but ye were out so we left ye.” Catalina then hung her bag on the back of her chair and waited patiently for class to begin. Ancient Runes was quite the fun subject and Catalina was happy she’d picked it up in her 4th year, especially since that meant that she could drop Divination. She never did care for looking at tea to see when she was supposed to die.

Gram walked with a few friends through the second floor hallway as he spoke out. "Alright, this is my class. Ancient Runes. I'll catch ya later." he said as he slightly nodded his head and waved goodbye to his friends.
Opening the door the brightness of the room amazed him. 'Just like last year.' Gram thought as he saw Professor Vector. "Hello Professor." he greeted as he noticed Cat, Savannah, and Valerie all together. "Hi Valerie, ready for our last year." he said with a raise of his eye brows and got his own seat a few seat away from Valerie and her click. Sitting Down int he cushioned seat, He leaned back confortably as he placed his arms behind his head, and waited for the class to begin.

Jaquin looked forward to his first Ancient Runes class of the year, as he excelled in linguistics and liked to learn ancient alphabets, such as the ones that Vikings implemented before they shifted to latin and a mix of other European languages. Striding down the hallway, Jaquin arrived at Ancient Runes to find that the Ravenclaws would be learning with the Hufflepuffs. He was intrigued by the prospect of learning more Ancient Runes and how to utilize magic through rune stones.
Upon spotting Kamron, a newly acqainted friend, Jaquin sat down next to him, greeted the professor, and said, "Hey, Kamron. Looking foward to this class?"

Juliette greeted each student as they entered. When most had arrived she began class. "Welcome to Ancient Runes, you will not need your wands here so you may put them away. In this class we will be working with magic the same manner in which the ancient Britanians used it. Runes were used as an early form of writing, soon they began to be infused with magical powers and their appearance never drew a second glance from muggles. To use runes a great deal of concentration is needed, if you are sitting with someone who will pose a distraction to you, I strongly suggest you move seats. Now then, you will each proceed to the cabinets and take a bag of runes."
When all students had returned with their runes Juliette emptied her own bag of runes onto her desk. Picking up her wand she levitated 9 runes. The runes then swelled in size until they were as large as a book. She then waved her wand again and the runes flew towards the chalkboard and stuck. "Today we be using these nine runes and will be practicing some basic runic magic. Please take out these runes, then place the rest of your runes back in your bag and place the bags under the table, you will be needing your whole desk today." Again waving her wand at the board, writing appeared under each rune naming them."
*UUS, HUR, POR, IN, LOR, EX, YLEM, AN, KAL*

He smiled a Jaquin as the other boy cane in and say down beside him. While he had known who the older boy was since his second year at Hogwarts, it was only this year that they had spoken, but their conversation had been rather friendly, and he welcomed the possibility of companionship as the other boy sat down at the desk beside him.
"Jaquin" he said, doing his usual name-and-nod greeting "I am looking forward to this class. Runes have always fascinated me"
He did not bother to move his desk as the teacher said to if they would be distracted. He fully intended to give his runes his full attention. He knew that both he and Jaquin were rather good at focusing, and could even carrry on a conversation while doing so--though he did not intend to disrespect his professor by doing so.
His wand had never left his pocket, so he did not need to put it away. He did follow her instructions though, seperating UUS, HUR, POR, IN, LOR, EX, YLEM, AN, and KAL from the rest of the runes and leaving them int he middle of his desk while he scooped the others back intot he bag.

Catalina listened intently to Professor Vector as she described today's work. They were to first get their runes, "I'll get t'em" she said to Valerie and Savannah as she rose from her seat and walked across the room the cabinets. Opening up a cabinet she grabbed three bags of runes and returned to her table, setting the bags down and sliding one to Valerie and the other to Savannah. Dumping out all of her runes on the table it looked quite like a giant puzzle. As she searched through the runes for the nine that were needed, one by one she began to pull them out and make a separate pile. At last she had pulled the last rune, EX, which had proved a difficult task as it was hidden under another rune. With her nine useful runes for the day set aside she began scooping the rest of them into the bag which she pulled closed and set under her table. Looking around the room she saw several students still searching for their proper runes. In the meantime, Catalina simply began to line up her runes in a long line and began to twirl YLEM about with her finger.

Once all students had their runes ready, Juliette waved her wand and summoned dozens of small locked wooden chests from the far table. Each chest then floated and landed on the front table. "Our first spell we will try is a summoning charm, it acts in the same manner as the "Accio" charm. To cast the charm you will need the runes KAL, and YLEM. Arrange them as such on your desk" She then waved her wand and the large *KAL* Rune on the blackboard slide down, next *YLEM* slide over and rested parallel to it, forming a sideways *T* "The KAL rune is infuse with the magical property of summoning, while YLEM effects objects. To cast this charm first arrange your two runes in a *T* as you see on the board. Next you need to focus on a chest you wish to summon, while concentrated on the chest chant the runes slowly "Kal-Yeem" Ylem is pronounced as "Yeem" so make sure you pronounce it correctly. As with wand magic, it will take you some time to get the feel for runic magic. Now if there are no questions you may begin attempting to summon your chest."
(( Hermione Granger isn't in this class, therefore I don't expect to see anyone get this charm mastered on the first try! ))

After the brief conversation with Kamron, Jaquin turned and listened meticulously to every instruction that Professor Vector gave. As Jaquin had not taken out his wand, he did not need to put it away. The professor instructed that they needed to take out the runes, UUS, HUR, POR, IN, LOR, EX, YLEM, AN, and KAL. After taking out these runes, Jaquin quickly remembered each of its properties. When Professor Vector ordered that they take out KAL and YLEM, Jaquin knew instantly that they would be doing a summoning charm, as KAL was for summoning, and YLEM effected objects.
Jaquin looked at his stones in a little doubt, as he was never very good at Ancient Runes. There was a clatter of sound that resonated through the classroom as multitudinous students rummaged for their stones and began trying out the charm. Jaquin quickly arranged his runes so that they formed a 'T'. Then, he held onto the ruins and aimed it at the nearest locked chest, he focused with all his will. As Jaquin focused on the chest, he began to chant the runes slowly, saying, "Kal-Yeem!" Jaquin saw the chest shift a little to the edge of the front table, but, it was unambiguous that Jaquin was not doing it properly. He tried for a second time, reformed the runes into a 'T', held onto them, and concentrated on the chest with all his might. Jaquin chanted the runes once again, though this time slower, clearer, and with a lot more feeling. "Kal-Yeem!!"
The chest was intantaneously lifted from the table and flew with the force of a bullet towards Jaquin. Jaquin caught the chest with his hands, barely stopping it from taking off his head.

Catalina sorted through her nines stones looking for KAL and YLEM. Upon finding them she shoved the others off to the side. KAL she moved straight in front of her while she slid YLEM next to it to make the T shape. Touching the two stones with two different fingers she looked at the table full of boxes. Catalina set her sights on a bluish box that had white trim around it. Concentrating hard on the box she slowly chanted "KAL-YEEM." At first nothing happened, yet she continued to chant. After the third time the blue box rattled a bit then stopped. Feeling she was making progress Catalina continued, "KAL-YEEM" this time the blue box lifted up into the air ever so slightly then landed back on the table. Taking a deep breath, she again focused on the box, "KAL-YEEM" this time the box lifted up off the desk and hovered there, doing nothing. Now what? Catalina thought as her box simply hovered over the table, "come here" she thought and the box floated about a foot closer towards her before it tumbled down to the carpet. "Aye gobdaw!" Catalina muttered as she took another deep breath and again concentrated on her box, "KAL-YEEM" she again said, the box once more rose into the air and this time if floated over towards her. As it nearly reached her desk, Catalina saw the box begin to loose altitude as if it were about to fall once more. "No ye don't!" She said as she quickly reached out and grabbed the box, setting it down on her desk. Heaving a sigh of relief, she watched the others and their progress with their own boxes while waiting for their next step.

He glanced down at his runes for a moment, carefully seperating out the ones he desired, pushing the rest away and to the back of his desk. He then focused on KAL and YLEM, aranging them in a 'T' shape, just as Professor Vector instructed.
Thile those around him tried, he remained silent, staring down at his chosen runes with unwavering attention. He looked up multiple times towards the chest, and looked as if he was going to say the chant, but nothing came out. Instead, after a moment, he just looked back down at the runes. He saw Jaquin's chest go flying by, but still he said nothing.
This was how he learned a new spell, he repeated it over and over in his head, until he knew at least something would happen. Yes, he was slow in a way. Most people would have at least gotten a wabble out of their chest before he ever opened his mouth, but he did not speak for just the sake of it. He spoke for results.
It was some time later that he finally stared at the chest for long moments. His mouth finally opening and speaking the runes outloud.
"KAL YLEM!" He said, slow and loud, the chest akwardly moving forward and landing on the floor a few feet from his desk.

Savannah slide her two runes together in the T shape and looked at the boxes and decided to get the black one. "Kal yeem" she said while holding the two runes in her hand. The black box spun around a bit but did nothing else. Again she tried and still the box only spun more. Over and over she tried the same chant and the box kept spinning and hopping on the table. All about her other people were having similar results, but a few people had gotten their boxes already. "Kal-yeem!" She said as the anger began to grow in her over the stupid box not coming to her. The black box lifted up into the air and toppled end over end towards her where it smacked into the table and fell to the floor. Good enough Savannah though as she bent down and picked up the box, setting it on her desk and waiting for the next bit of instruction.

Valerie nervously watched the rest of the class get busy on their runes. Meanwhile she looked at her own runes and slowly moved the ones she didn't need aside. Forming a little T with her two runes she looked over at the table of boxes, it was so far away. Setting her eyes on a pink box she repeated "Kal Yeem" over and over but the results were unsuccessful. One by one other boxes lifted up off of the table and flew across the room. In very short time Catalina had her box. "Kal yeem" Valerie again said as she was beginning to panic as she saw more and more other boxes leaving the front table. Another box landed on her desk as Savannah had gotten hold of one. Valerie was now sitting in front of the class and still had no box, she bet everyone else had theirs already. Her ears became hot and she could feel herself blushing as again and again she repeated "Kal yeem" but her words had no effect. Sheepishly she looked at Catalina and weakly smiled, she didn't want to ask for help, she always had to get help from everyone in every class. It was a wonder anyone ever sat next to her since they knew that she couldn't do anything. Readjusting the runes she pretended to know what the problem was and spun the T around. "Kal yeem" she again said over and over as she felt her eyes begin to water up. A small tear trickled down her check which she quickly wiped away and hoped no one had seen in, she rather wished she hadn't even have signed up for this class, she desired nothing more than to simply vanish and be out of everyone's sight.

Celina walked into the Ancient Runes classroom, feeling a sense of excitement vibrate through her. She was glad she had chosen this elective. She had always found the study of runes to be quite intriguing. As a child, it was a hobby of hers to collect runes and try to figure out the meaning behind them. Greeting the professor, she sat down in the second row, behind her friends Cat and Savannah. She wasn't too keen on sitting with them as she knew this class required her utmost concentration and that of course was not entirely possible if you had someone like Savannah sitting next to you. She looked up as Professor Vector started to speak. When the Professor told them to get their bag of runes from the cabinet, Celina walked over, quickly picked a bag and went back to her seat. Looking up at the swollen nine runes she was required to pick, she dug into the bag and found them. Placing the bag with the remaining runes under her desk, she looked up at the Professor, awaiting her next set of instructions.

Picking out the runes 'KAL and 'YLEM', Celina attempted forming a 'T' the way Professor Vector had indicated. Picking out a silver chest with black borders, Celina focused on it, repeating the word 'KAL-YEEM' in her mind. When she thought she was ready, she chanted 'KAL-YEEM'. Strangely, nothing happened. Frowning, Celina tried again. Still nothing happened. She looked around to see if anyone else was also trying for the silver chest she had chosen. Maybe that was why the charm wasn't working. Upon ascertaining that she was the only one attempting the silver chest, she focused again on the chest. Taking a deep breath, she said strongly, 'KAL-YEEM!'. The chest rose and moved towards her, slowly but steadily. It slowed down a few inches in front of her table and Celina got up and took it, realising it wasn't going to move any further. "There," she said, with a sigh of relief as she sat down and placed the silver chest in front of her.

Ivy walked into the Ancient Runes classroom, nodding to the Professor and taking a seat at the side of the classroom. This was her first Ancient Runes class, so she watched Professor Vector discreetly, trying to get some sort of gage of her character.
Not sure what would happen next, Ivy looked around the room, quietly observing the other students. Professor Vector instructed the class to collect a bag of runes. Ivy swiftly moved to the cabinet and took a bag of runes before sitting down again.
"UUS, HUR, POR, IN, LOR, EX, YLEM, AN, KAL," Ivy pronounced quietly to herself as she selected the appropriate runes. She stared at them, waiting for further instruction on Professor Vector's part. She must seem a real dunce to the rest of the class, thought Ivy, feeling her cheeks grow hot.
She put the thought aside and listened intently as Professor Vector told them how to arrange the runes. She attempted to do so. Focusing her attention on a small, ordinary chest, she said "Kal yeem", rather feebly. Nothing happened, as she had expected.
'See, told you', said a voice inside her. Ivy ignored it. She looked again closely at the board and rearranged her 'T' accordingly. "Kal yeem", she said again, and yet another time not the slightest thing happened. "Kal yeem!" she said, more loudly, and this time the chest moved a little on the front desk. Oh well, it was a start, Ivy thought.

Julie left the library five minutes before her Runes class. She had wanted to take a quick look at the new Herbology books the school had purchased over the summer before going to class, and Madam Pince showed her to the section with the new books. Julie looked at one or two of them and decided to come back later for a closer look. She picked up her books, which she had left on one of the tables in the library, and made her way to the classroom, which wasn’t too far away.
Ancient Runes wasn’t exactly Julie’s strongest suit. It required a good deal of concentration and getting the feel of the runes’ magic wasn’t always that easy. Professor Vector was a good Professor; kind, but not one to put up with nonsense in her classes. She greeted the Professor when she entered the classroom then sat down with her friends from Ravenclaw; Catalina and Savannah. Cat was finishing off her breakfast and she kindly bought something for Savannah who hadn’t joined them in the Great Hall for breakfast despite the combined attempts of her fellow Ravenclaw friends to wake her up. They finished off the food quietly and quickly as the class was to begin soon.
Professor Vector started the class without wasting any time and showed them the nine runes they would be working with. Julie moved her desk away from the others so she could concentrate on what she was doing and to make space for all of them, got one bag of Runes then quickly found the nine runes and put the others away. Julie wished working with runes was as easy as identifying them. As soon as everybody had moved their desks and found their runes Professor Vector gave them there next set of instructions. They would be doing something similar to a Summoning Charm - only with runes instead of wands.
Professor Vector explained the magical properties of the runes, and the theory behind their magic, and then showed them exactly how to place the runes. They were to set the KAL and YLEM in a sideways T. That didn't look too hard to Julie, but she knew the actual magic would be difficult to do. Julie moved the runes with the side of her arm to left side of her desk to empty a space for the KAL and YLEM runes. She formed the T with them, and then tucked a strand of her behind her ear with a soft sigh. "If you don’t succeed the first time, then try, try, try again," she thought to herself.
She saw a small brown box not too far away from her and focused all her concentration on it for a minute. "KAL-YEEM," she chanted, willing the box to move. Again she tried, and again. Julie made a skeptical noise in her throat. She wasn't exactly sure why she persisted in taking the subject. "This is just something I can't do," she thought to herself. Julie turned around to call Professor Vector for help, when she noticed the way the others in the class were performing. She hadn't been holding the runes correctly in the first place. Julie mentally kicked herself for her mistake and tried again. The box shook in its place and hovered for a minute, and Julie looked at it hopefully. It didn’t fly over to her though. Feeling slightly angered Julie fingered the runes for a minute then reformed her T. "Kal-Yeem," she chanted resolutely, this time doing everything correctly. The box flew over at an astonishing speed, and landed on her desk with thud. Julie pushed it as it was about to fall off the desk and looked at it triumphantly. She smiled to herself as she looked around, noticing that almost everybody had now got the gist of the spell. "Oh well, slowly but surely," she thought to herself.
