The door stood open and all the tables were bare except one in front. Three rows of tables with three chairs at each. The table in front of Professor Snape’s desk however was filled to the brim with ingredients for his beginner’s class. They would be working on a cleaning solution today that way anybody who spills can stay after class and clean it up with one of the more advanced student’s solutions. Professor Snape sat as his desk watching as the student’s milled into the room. With a casual flick of his wrist the instructions appeared on the front blackboard.
1. In a standard size cauldron mix together 10 cups of water and 2 tablespoons of bundimun secretion. 2. Turn burner on low and allow solution to slowly heat for 10 minutes. 3. Add in 3 tubeworms. 4. Stir counter clockwise 7 times followed by 3 clockwise stirs. 5. Allow potion to simmer another 5 minutes. If made correctly your cleaning solution should be a thick paste of gold brown colour.
"You may begin." Professor Snape said when he felt the majority of the class was assembled.

When Emma came into the class that morning, her first impression of Professor Snape was that he knew what he was doing. After a while, her impression was the same. She looked at the board- She took a cauldron, and mixed in the ten cups of water and two spoons of Bundimun Secretion. Then she turned the burner on low, and set carefuly on it the cauldron. Then she sat, and waited for it to heat. She was sat about halfway, and watched the others.

Leaving the Great Hall after having had a quick lunch Ariane moved the quickest way towards the Slytherin common room. She would be having Potions next. Professor Snape was a good teachers and Ariane’s head of house. But Ariane herslef didn’t display any talent at Potions what so ever. She much rather preferred using her wand to crouching over cauldron filled with bubbling goo while the room was cold enough to freeze your breath. Smoothing down her shirt and pants Ariane exchanged the books she had along previously for her potions things. Pulling on a thick Slytherin-green sweater that brought out the clear colour of her big eyes Ariane glanced at the mirror. Fixing a few strande of her hair that had been a bit mussed up Araine reattached the silvery clips holding her hair back before making her way out of the dormitory again after making sure the SLytherin badge on her jumper and robe were displayed neatly.
Weaving her way between older students who entered the room Ariane slipped out of the common room and started in the directin of the Potions class. Which would luckily be her last class for today. Entering the classroom Araine smiled pleasantly at the professor sitting in front of the class. Perhaps she wasn’t very talented in the class he was teaching, but Ariane at least liked professor Snape. Her parents had told her to trust professor Snape more than any other professor in the school. Already that put the professor onto a high pedestal in Ariane’s eyes.
There were trhee spaces at every table. Hopefully she wouldn’t have to share her table with some Hufflepuff or Gryffindor. Most Ravenclaws weren’t worth the light of day either. Bringing the required ungredients for herself Ariane started a small fire under her cauldron before pouring 10 cups of water into it. Adding 2 spoonfuls of bundimun something. Leaving the potion to bubble in front of her Ariane sneered at the worms she was supposed to be adding. After it had been 10 minute s- Ariane wans’t completely surely she hadn’t missed by about half a minute or so, she threw the 3 tubeworms into the cauldron as quickly as possible, not really wanting to hold onto the worms. Stirring the cauldron. First 7 times clockwise, then 3 times the opposite direction Ariane lef the potion to simmer. When about 5 minutes had passed Ariane glanced at the liquid in her cauldron. It was brown. Not icky brown, just chestnut. Not very golden really and it wasn’t very pasty. It wasn’t exactly watery either really. It just... was.

Danielle walked slowly toward Potions class, she'd had a bad day and just wanted it to be over. She had a horrible headache and didn't much look forward to the odd smells that awaited her. Snape was her least favorite teacher. He was very scary and his classroom was always freezing cold. All this was going through her head as she walked own the dungeon corridors that lead to class.
She shivered as she walked in, man I wish I had a sweater she thought. Oh well, I'll survive. She noticed only two people there a Ravenclaw, and a Slytherin. She'd take her chances with the Ravenclaw, the girl looked like she was nice so shifting her books to a more comfortable position she walked toward her. "Hi, my name's Danielle do you mind if I sit with you?" Please say yes, please say yes. Danielle thought as she waited for her answer.

Katrina picked up her bag, she was sitting in the library reading a book called "The Problems with Frogs" She had never really understood why she was reading such an absurd book but she had needed something to pass the time.
She looked at her timetable and a slice of fear ran down her neck. Potions.
It wasn't that she was not good at Potions, she was actually she was exceptionally good at it but she was not blind to the fact that Professor Snape did not like Gryffindors.
She gulped loudly and left for the dungeons which were incredibly cold and she wrapped herself with her arms as she got closer to the classroom.
She stepped inside and glanced around where she saw Professor Snape making arrangements for the class. Three first years sat in there, she pitied them slightly as they did not know what they were in for.
She sat down near the back, hoping not to be seen but she had no doubt that Professor Snape would not forget her.

Emma nodded at Danielle, smiling. "Sure, you can sit here. We must'nt talk though, i've heard he takes points away for just whispering!" Emma smiled again, then checked her potion. "My name's Emma Blake. Just look at the board to see what to do, it's quite simple." Emma took her potion off of the burner. She added three tubeworms, stirred it seven times counter clockwise and three times clockwise. Then she sat back for five minutes, watching the doors for any of her friends.

Katrina looked at the board and got out all the necissary equipment. She wanted to tell the people in front to shut up but she knew that to be rude and she really didn't want to be told off by Proffesor Snape.
She was adding the tubeworms when she finally figured out how tired she was. She had spent so much of her time revising for Herbology that she had not gotten a bit of sleep. She didn't want to tell anyone how tired she was as she knew that Professor Snape would not take that as an excuse.

Leon had woken early that morning, washed and dressed quickly, then took a walk in the grounds before class. He usually skipped breakfast at home, so the school would be no exeption. He had walked by the lake, enjoying the cool fresh air on his face after a restless night's sleep. The sun was bright, almost blinding, and the lake was calm as it showed him his reflection. Turning back towards the castle, Leon had sprinted quickly towards it. Take a morning run each day, darling! His mother's words echoed in his mind, and he stopped running straight away.
Back in his room, Leon checked his timetable. His next lesson was potions, wich Leon actually enjoyed. Changing his trainers to more apprpriate shoes he walked slowly to the dungeons, taking his time. As he entered the classroom, he looked about him. Two slytherin first years, a Ravenclaw first year and a Gryffindor first year were already there. Scowling at there innocence as they chattered away, he retreated to the back. To his surprise there was already someone there, a Gryffindor third year. Smiling, Leon asked her if he could sit there. The first years were still talking, and Leon knew they would stop as soon as the Professor started talking. Not waiting for the girl's answer, Leon sat down, took out his things, and got to work. Twenty minutes later, he was sitting by his cauldron, looking into it and smiling- his potion was a flawless golden brown.

"Thanks." Danielle whispered and sat down. She got a cauldron and started on the assignment. O.k she thought to herself after she had her water. Now all I need is some Bundimun stuff. After it heated she added the tubeworms, stirred it ten times, 7 counter clockwise and three times clockwise. When it was done it wasn't exactly a gold brown color it was a little darker but it was a paste. Smiling to herself she read as she waited for Snape to come and check it.

Zachary skidded to a halt in front of the Potion's door. This was one of his favorite classes, but he couldn't pretend that Professor Snape didn't frighten him a bit. His head of house was such an imposing man. For the first time that day, Zachary took a moment to straighten himself up. He brushed his robes and patted down his hair, frowning slightly. Here went nothing....He walked through the open the door and entered slowly, cautiously. He made his way to a table i the back, near to the only other Slytherins he could find and sat down, carefully reading the instructions on the board. Sighing softly, he stood to get water for the potion they were making.
Once the required ingredients were assembled, Zachary set to work, stirring the concoction in his cauldron fervently when instructed. He paid no attention to anyone else. Potions took the brewers full attention--or, should--if you wanted them to come out right. He grinned slightly to himself. The potion was looking good, and he had followed the instructions well enough. He glanced into his cauldron, biting back a smirk. It was golden brown and thick enough. The color could have been a little better, but it was golden brown, wasn't it? And it could have been a bit pastier, but, for the most part, the contents of his cauldron were above acceptable, and that was all that mattered to Zachary.

The beginners entered into the room many being noisy and boisterous. “Will the 2 females in the front please cease the conversation and allow everybody who wants to pass this course to concentrate.” Severus said with a smirk to a first year Ravenclaw and Gryffindor who seemed to be introducing themselves. Sitting at his desk Severus watched as the children worked at one of the most rudimentary of potions. As they got restless and a few seemed to be finished Severus stood up from his desk and went around to the tables. He only knew the names of the older students or the ones in his house so that would be a little difficult but he would learn their names in time. The first he got to was a first year from his house named Ariane. “Passable because it’s your first potion Ms. Dianne but in the future please follow instructions more closely. 5 points.” Severus said to her before moving on to Leon Harrow. Severus scooped out some of the potion then placed it back down into the cauldron. “Not perfect but a good potion, Mr. Harrow. 10 points.” Next he reached one of the girls who had been talking – he didn’t know her name. “Yet another passable potion. 5 points. But do please try and contain yourself in my class. I do not appreciate useless noise.” Finally Severus went to another first year – from Slytherin again. “Wonderful potion Mr. Grey. Keep this up and you just may get into my NEWTs class when you reach sixth year. 15 points.” Severus said to the boy before walking up to his desk and sitting once more waiting for the rest of the class.

Mitch finished his potion just as Professor Snape sat down at his desk, it wasn't as thick as he'd hoped for but it was thick enough and the color wasn't perfect but it was the right color thats what matters ,isn't it ? . Now that he'd finished he all he could do was wait for the rest of the class.

Had he just heard what he thought he'd heard? Snape had given him a complement. A complement! On his potion. And he had a chance of making it to N.E.W.T. level. Zachary bit back a proud grin, staring hard at his hands. He didn't look up. The potion bubbled, spraying the side of his cauldron with the thick, brown paste. He couldn't believe he'd actually won Slytherin fifteen points. That was more than anyone else had gotten in class, so far. Maybe he even had a chance of earning more, if he was good. If he payed attention. Zachary had never won anyone anything before in his life, so something that seemed insignificant--like house points--meant quite a bit to him. And being complemented. That in itself was something. He was never praised at home.

Katrina gulped as she noticed that she had finished her potion already and not made it known to the teacher. She was exactly wanting to be praised by such a teacher as Snape but she knew trying was necessary.
She looked down at the almost perfect potion and returned to her seat. She glanced around seeing no one her age except for Leon, who seemed to be indulged in his own potion.
Katrina looked around to see none of the the first years doing anything. She got out a random piece of parchment and wrote down things about her potion. What went well? What didn't go well? What was easy? What was hard? What was the history of the potion? What was the meaning of the potion?
All questions Professor Snape loved to ask when doing essays, just when the students had forgotten it.

He had long decided that he didn't like potions. He had a great distaste for anyone who favored one over another for nothing other than things like blood or their associations--and Snape fell firmly in that category. It didn't take him long to decide that the rather greasy-hair professor desperately needed and attitude change, not to mention a shower, and while he would love to be just the boy to do it. He knew his poor little house of rejects would send him death wishes if he lost them such points, and it was for that reason that he made his way to potions well before class began and settled into a seat close to the back.
Once class started, he, along with the other students, gathered their ingredients, and he started his potion. He got out his standard sized cauldron, and poured in 10 cuts of water, then mixed the two tablespoons of bondimun secretion. He then put his burner on low and let it heat slowly for ten minutres before he added three tubeworms. He then stirred his forming potion sever times counter-clockwise and then three clockwise and set it back on his burner for another 5 minutes. He watched the potion during his last fife minutes as it thickened to a brown-color paste, knowing that Snape would probably find something bad about it.

Shadow sighed as she headed to Potions. Her kitten Insanity was hidden in her bag and kept quiet. Shadow liked potions. She liked the dark, cold classroom. She liked the smell of the fire under cauldrons. She didn't exactly like Professor Snape. But she didn't hate him either.
She walked in quickly, hoping she wasn't late and grabbed a table at the back, close to a 1st year Hufflepuff that she didn't know. She took one look at the board and set to work. She took out her standard size pewter cauldron and added 10 cups of water and 2 table spoons of bundimun secretion.
She put the heat on low and stared at her watch, wanting 10 minutes to come along quicker. She looked around the classroom and spotted another two Ravenclaws that she didn't know. 3 Slytherins and one of them she knew to be Mitch. And 2 Gryffindors who she didn't know either.
It had been 10 minutes and Shadow started on the next task which was adding the tubeworms. She grimaced but quickly added 3 tubeworms before wiping her hands on her robes. She grabbed her spoon and stirred it 7 times counter clockwise and then 3 times clockwise. She smirked before allowing it to simmer for another 5 minutes.

A few minutes after the first wave had finished Severus got up to check the rest. The first student he reached was a first year from his house – Mitch Colins. “A good potion for a first try, Mr. Colins.” Snape said barely looking into the cauldron. “10 points to Slytherin.” Next in line was Katrina Becket who he had caught duelling in the halls the other day. “Well Ms. Becket it is good to see you took time away from fighting with other students to attend class. Satisfactory potion I suppose. 10 points for Gryffindor.” He said stirring the spoon around before walking away to a first year Hufflepuff. Severus did not know this boy’s name seeing as he was not in his house nor had they meet before but he could tell from the boy’s robes he was a Hufflepuff. “This potion is a little dark. 10 points to Hufflepuff.” Severus said to the boy briefly. Finally was Shadow Croft – a second year from his house. He lifted out a spoonful of the paste before smirking at it. “A perfect potion Ms. Croft. 15 points to Slytherin.” With that Snape walked back up to his desk. “Class is finished everyone is dismissed. Unfinished potions will no longer be graded. There is no homework tonight but make sure you reflect on today’s work so as to improve. Class dismissed.” Severus told the class at large before packing away his own things.
((This class is now finished. No new students may attend but those here may post leaving))

Shadow smirked at winning 15 house points for Slytherin. Maybe this year they wouldn't be beaten. She quickly gathered up her things before walking out of the dungeon and heading towards the Slytherin common room.

Mitch packed up his things with a smile stuck to his face he hadn't got any house before that lesson so he was happy for the fact after he was done packing away he left the class and went back to the common room the hole way with a smile on his face.
