Juliette Vector's classroom was on the 2nd floor near a stairwell to the Great Hall. Though it was quite a busy walkway, enough charms had been placed on the door and walls to dampen the sound. This was a necessity for such a subject as Ancient Runes which required great concentration. Ancient Runes was the ancient art of magic that was used before wands. The entire classroom was carpeted with a soft white carpet that was spotless and always soft as a feather. The center of the room had twenty oak student tables with two cushioned swivel chairs at each table. The wall opposite of the door was lined with cabinets that were all locked. Within were scores of runes, which would soon be in use. The back wall contained two large windows that let ample amounts of sunlight in the area, also by the windows sat four pale blue couches. Under the windows sat a small cabinet that contained a couple wizard chess boards, as well as about a dozen other games. To Juliette, a good classroom was one that students enjoyed coming to, she did her best to make sure that her class was comfortable enough for students to do their best work, though foolishness was quickly dealt with and the offender soon found that they no longer had any privileges in the class. When not teaching a class, Juliette would allow any student who so desired to come to her room to study, relax or simply talk and hang out. Today was no exception as a pair of Ravenclaws had set up shop on the couches and were busily engulfed in a game of wizard's chess.
As Juliette sat at her desk in the front of the room she went over the roster of students she would be seeing very soon. Flipping through her lesson for today, it would be a fairly easy one. It would also be a good chance to weed out those who simply didn't have the patience or ability to handle the concentration required to use runes. "Mister Williams, Mister Donaldson, Ancient Runes is about to begin, you may come back and finsih once the class is over." Glancing at her watch, there was just a few minutes until the class would begin.

Ivy walked swiftly along the corridor. She was in good time for Ancient Runes. Ivy was worried about the class - she wasn't very good at it and it was very hard. she just hoped that Kiyla arrived on time today. after the negative comments she had made about the class last time, Ivy wasn't even sure she'd want to turn up.
Ivy turned into the classroom, which as always looked deceivingly pleasant for the hard work of the lesson ahead. There were very few people there. She nodded to the Professor and took a seat at the side of the classroom, waiting for the lesson to begin. Ancient Runes lessons always started punctually.

((I'm not entirely sure I'm enrolled in this. I think I am. )) Sapphire was studying in the library, as usual keeping a sharp eye on the clock. She had Ancient Runes today, and she would not be late. She was never late, not for any class. Not even Potions, which she found the teacher made slightly unpleasant. As the time of the lesson drew nearer, Sapphire packed up all her belongings into her bag and slung it over her shoulder. She proceeded to the class, taking her time to catch snapshots of other student's lives. The castle was getting cold now. Some students were coming in exhilarated from playing in the snow. Sapphire had never held much truck with it. But then again maybe that was because she'd never had anyone to play with. Sapphire arrived fairly early. The classroom was still almost empty. She took a seat, nodding to Professor Vector, who she had always found to be a good teacher. She hoped the lesson would begin soon, as she was feeling ready for the hard brainwork that Ancient Runes always signalled.

Valerie left the common room by herself and walked along the corridors with her robed pulled tightly around her. The winter winds tore through the cold stone hallways as she made her way to Ancient Runes. Runes was a class that she quite liked, even though she wasn't very good at it. The Professor was very helpful and was one of the nicest ones at the school. As she walked into the classroom there were only a few younger students seated so far. "Good morning Professor" she said while walking past the front of the class to her normal seat in the second row. Putting her bag on the soft carpet and putting her wand away, she looked towards the door hoping that some of her friends would make it today.

Top Speed! Warp Speed! Super Hyper Ultra Speed! Kim raced down the hallway as fast as her little legs could take her. She was in a hurry, she simply HAD to get to the Ancient Runes class as soon as she could! Someone in the common room had mentioned that Professor Vector had gotten a new game, something about little magic people and you rolled dice and they moved around and did magic and stuff. It sounded simply too cool! Just like one of her computer games back home! Sprinting down a flight of steps, Kim took three, four and sometimes five steps at a time! Slamming on the brakes she nearly ran into a few older Gryffindors as she rounded the corner and made the final rush down the hallway towards class.
As she reached the classroom she slowed down and walked in, and for some reason found a couple students sitting down at the desks. "Do we have class today?" Kim asked as she walked in curiously and eyed the game area in the back of the room.

Somehow she had let Kim talk her into taking Runes. Her frined always seemed to make things sound very excting once she started talking, though the fact that she tended to not stop talking probably added to that. They were all in the common room when she saw Kim take off as fast as she had ever seen her friend go, and in a moment of panic, she was sure she was late for class. She quickly grabbed her faded blue and purple backpack and raced down the hall after her.
She was running after Kim, weaving through older students, until she finally managed to step into the Anchient Rune's classi )m, rather out of breath, and almost ran into Kim.

Catalina walked up the stairs from the Great Hall with her usual plate of cookies and brownies. No matter what, it always seemed she got hungry during Ancient Runes and so she always brought some snacks along with her. Entering the class she distinctly heard Kim ask if they had class today. Another little Hufflepuff was right behind her, that Noko something girl from the Quidditch team. Catalina walked past them both and smiled at each before walking over to the Professor's desk. "Mornin' Professor, do ye want one?" She said while offering her plate. Catalina then walked to the desks and took her normal seat, right next to Valerie.
Placing her plate in the middle of the desk she set her bag down on the carpet and waited for class to begin. The smell of her fresh cookies though drew her attention from the others in the room and she squarely looked at the plate. Drumming her fingers on the table she pondered the cookies, if she ate one now she would still have enough for an after class snack. Certainly one cookie wouldn't hurt. Simply unable to show self control any longer, Catalina reached out and picked a chocolate chip cookie and broke it apart and began to nibble on it. "Aye, do ye want sum?" She asked as she slid the plate over to Valerie.

Kiyla nearly ran to ancient runes. She knew she mustn't be late today. That would be two classes in a row. She walked into the classroom out of breathe and saw she wasn't late... but early.
"Maybe, i should go back and try again. I think I'm too early." She thought to herself but sighed and went to sit by Ivy.
She smiled at Ivy and said, "hey."

Ivy smiled at Kiyla, glad that she had managed to arrive on time today. Otherwise Kiyla would have ended up irreversibly hating Ancient Runes, if she didn't already.
"Hey," she said. "Are things OK today?" Actually, Kiyla should probably ask her that question. But Kiyla knew her well enough to tell what was on Ivy's mind at the moment. Ivy would need to clear it if she was going to succeed in Ancient Runes.

It wasn't exaclty his idea to start taking Anchient Runes. He would have greatly prefered to just stick with charms, but for some reason here he was. Apparently, on his attempt to not loose Hufflepuff so many points this year, it had been decided hat if they kepted him busy with extra classes, he might learn to behave himself, that combined with a rather convicing speach about how runes really was a lot like charms...in some twisted way, he found himself walking into the Professor Vector's class room five minutes before Rune's was supose to start. He saw a small gathering of Hufflepuff's off to the side, only of them being Kiyla, an he flashed her a bright grin and gave her his traditional army-style sulute.

Kiyla nodded at Ivy's question. She was doing alright. She was worried more about Ivy though.
"I'm good, but how are you?" She asked Ivy. As she did she saw Payton from across the room. He smiled at her and she smiled back and gave a little wave.
"Payton." She said simply as she looked back at Ivy.

Ivy shot Payton a warning glance. She didn't know what his policy with Kiyla was at the moment, but it had certainly better not be to mess with her. Then Ivy sighed. She didn't have the time to be trying to defend Kiyla against somebody who maybe she didn't need defending against. Then again, Ivy could never trust Payton. Maybe after a million years of being on his best behaviour.
Ivy gave Kiyla a small apologetic smile. Then she gave Payton one too. She had other things to worry about at the moment.

Post by Jaquin Prokenstien on Dec 5, 2004 19:15:15 GMT
Today was Ancient Runes, a class that taught the fundamentals in which modern magic had been derived from. It was an intriguing class for Jaquin, with the fascinating use of runes instead of wands to perform multifarious types of magic. Although Jaquin's best subjects were Care of Magical Creatures/Magibiology, muggle biology, herbology, and charms, he still excelled at other types of magic. He prefered Care of Magical Creatures, because he had a certain natural talent and affinity for the science of muggle biology and the creatures of the Magical world; he was best in his year at the subject. He had heard rumors about the Ancient Runes Class today. Jaquin remisced about the very first class of the year when they had to implement the stones to perform the more rudimentary charms, such as Alohomora, the unlocking spell. He hoped that the class would be much more sophisticated and more challenging this time.
Jaquin walked along astir corridor on the second floor of Hogwarts where throngs of students moved in packs. The tumultuous sounds of exorbitant loquaciousness resonated throughout the corridor. When he entered the classroom, Jaquin found that many students had already arrived. He hurried to a seat near the front of the classroom and waited patiently for the class to commence.

(( I'm putting all houses together, since only Liliane showed up to the other class, I'm moving her post here ))
Liliane had been in her dormintory passing time before her Ancient Runes class. She was excited. She had always enjoyed that class. It was always so welcoming and nice.
Liliane put on her school clothes and headed through the common room and through the portrait hole. She walked to her class watching to see if she knew anybody else who she could walk with. She walked through the hallway watching the commotion of all the kids. She arrived at the class first. A couple of Ravenclaws were walking out as she walked in. She smiled at them and went and sat down at a desk.

Juliette greeted each student as they entered. When most had arrived she began class. "Welcome to Ancient Runes, as with last class, you will not need your wands here so you may put them away. In this class we will be working with magic the same manner in which the ancient Britanians used it. Runes were used as an early form of writing, soon they began to be infused with magical powers and their appearance never drew a second glance from muggles. To use runes a great deal of concentration is needed, if you are sitting with someone who will pose a distraction to you, I strongly suggest you move seats." Juliette then took out her wand and waved it at the cabinets on the wall which opened and out flew dozens of little runes.
Across the room the domino sized runes flew. Finally every student had two runes on their desks, *KAL* and *YLEM* "Alright, I hope everyone remembered and practiced their spells from last class, we'll be using them today." Waving her wand at the board, the enormous *KAL* rune slide over and then the *YLEM* rune moved under it form a large letter "T." "Alright, the summoning spell is first today, remember to make a capital T on your desk, KAL should be on top. Then focus on your target while you chant "KAL-YEEM." Remember to focus hard on your target. Today you will need to summon to you a bag of runes from the cabinet, as well as one of these little chests from my table. If there are no questions, you may begin. Once everyone has their runes and chest we will continue."

Post by Perseus Feynman on Dec 5, 2004 19:29:42 GMT
Perseus rushed through the corridors, running up two flights of staircases before he arrived on the second floor of Hogwarts. He would much rather have been in Potions, as Perseus was the best at that subject in his year. The subjects he was absolutely obsessed with were physics, astrophysics, chemistry, astronomy, potions, alchemy, and transfiguration. It constituted his daily study schedules, while all other classes were not studied as profusely as these. Although the subject of ancient runes was very compelling, the class had been fairly easy compared to the other classes he took. So, Perseus hoped that this time, the class would be much more challenging than it's quotidian, costomary curriculum.
Upon arrival, Perseus found the classroom to be packed with numerous students from multifarious houses. However, he found that he was the only Slytherin. Perseus spotted a good friend of his, Jaquin, and with an elated smile, Perseus sat down next to him. "Good day, Jaquin," he greeted.

Pansy walked into class and looked around in disgust. There was no one worthy to sit next to. The only Slytherin was that muggle loving Perseus . This class was quite possibly one of the most boring classes ever and Pansy needed some form of entertainment to keep her busy. Without Potter present or Granger or a Weasley her eyes scanned for anyone else. Then she spotted her, that little girl next to small girl who couldn't shut up. Walking over to a desk Pansy sat down while throwing her bag on her desk. "Hey, you, Noko-ohomonisis..whatever your name is... come here and sit down!" Pansy said as she pointed to the seat right next to her and kicked it out from under the desk, this might be an entertaining class after all.

Ivy tried to listen to what the Professor was saying, but her mind was racing. They were supposed to have practiced the spells from last lesson? Ivy frowned and looked at Kiyla unhappily.
Ivy arranged her runes on the desk, but she was flustered. She found Ancient Runes hard and was in no fit state of mind to do it today.
"KAL YEEM," Ivy said, concentrating on the bag of runes. Nothing happened. Perfect. Ivy put her head in her hands for about half a minute, and emerged again when she felt ready to.
Ivy concentrated on a bag of runes. Many other people already seemed to have theirs. Well, of course they did. There were sixth year Ravenclaws in this class. The Sorting Hat had contemplated putting her in Ravenclaw for a short time, actually, but had made the more sensible decision of putting her in Hufflepuff. She belonged there.
"KAL YEEM," Ivy said clearly, thinking only of the bag of runes. It flew straight at her. Oh great. What was she supposed to do? Catch it? It was going to hit her straight in the face! She lost her concentration and the bag of runes fell on the edge of her desk and started to slide.
"Oh no you don't," she told it severely, and stopped it. All right, so now she had her runes. But she knew from last week that getting the chest would be even harder.
Ivy focused on a plain wooden chest. Nothing too fancy.
"KAL YEEM!" she chanted. It shifted a little on the front desk. Ivy sighed. And her concentration was gone. "KAL YEEM!" Ivy said again. This time it didn't move. Ivy knew that the easiest thing to do now would be to give up. She didn't have the concentration necessary for Ancient Runes. She'd only just started it- she hadn't done it before this year. She usually found it challenging but satisfying. Today she just wasn't up to it.
Ivy blinked and set her jaw. She would have to get the chest, to avoid embarrassment as a 'dumb Hufflepuff'. She'd been called that before. She didn't intend to be thought it by a teacher.
Ivy set her gaze on the same wooden chest, and fixed it in her thoughts just slightly aggressively.
"KAL YEEM!" she said, with a touch of annoyance in her voice. This time the chest flew to her. It was a slightly wobbly flight, but it arrived. Ivy caught the chest to avoid any mishaps, and rubbed her eyes. This was not going to be a good lesson.

She coudln't believe what she was hearing. A Slytherin had just asked her to sit beside her. Well, it wasn't just any Slytherin, it was the girl she had met out by the lake one day, the girl she still didn't know the name of.
She stood there, compleatly shocked for a moment, before her senses finally came back and after pausing for only another moment she glanced at the few other Hufflepuffs in the room before making her way to the chair that had been pushed out for her.
She smiled at the other girl before listening to the professor and trying to adjust her runes so that they lined up perfectly, She never was good at runes.
"KAL YEEM!" She called, trying to sound confident, but her mind wans't focusing, and nothing happened.

After flashing Kiyla one last smile he made his way to an abandoned seat and settled down, dropping his bag on the floor at his feet, his advanced charms book making a rather loud thud as it hit the ground.
He leaned back rather comfortalbe in his hair, painfully aware of the fact his wand was to remain unused durring this class as he listened to the Professors instructions. He then nodded slightly and looked down at his charms before aranging the pair as he had been told. He then looked back over to the cupboard and after only a moments pause, said the rune ouloud.
"KAL YEEM"
Much to his dislike, all the small chest his focus was on did was jump forward, and a slightly stressed smile crossed his face. This was not going at all like a charms lessong--he took naturally to charms, and this did not seem to be coming with the same easy nature, and the Moore's were not known for enjoying things they had to work at.
Taking a moment to gather his focus once more, he put his attention on the task at hand, as much as he hated it when things were hard for him, he hated it more when he did not get his way in a sense.
"KAL YEEM!" This time, his ego checked slightly and more attention paid to the task at hand, the box chesk came flying foward and he caught it in the middle of its akward flight across the room.
The task complete he leaned back in his chair again, that same stressed smile still on his face. He wasn't sure he was going to like Runes--if this was their first spell and it didn't go as planned, chances were the rest of the class would not either.
