Cassandra opened the dungeon door slightly to make sure that she had found the right classroom, and after deciding she had the right room, she walked to a table and began to put her potion ingredients and cauldron on the table in front of her. Cassandra stared at the list of ingredients for the boil cure on the bored, and pondered over them before she began the potion. It wasn't that she was slow, she always wanted to make sure of what she was supposed to do before even starting. She secretly wondered if everyone was staring at her wondering why she wouldn't start. Honestly, she just didn't want to rush things.
She said the ingredients of the potion silently to herself, "add fresh water into your cauldron until it fills up to approximately 7/8 the cauldron's volume, Add 6 grams of dried nettles in 5 second intervals, fill your stewed horned slugs with the powder of crushed snake fangs and add three of those slugs into the concoction, and finally your cauldron should be full of steaming, light colored liquid." Repeating the instructions to herself always seemed to help calm her down while doing potions. It made her work the instructions in her head several times over before she began to add ingredients.
After she filled her cauldron to approximately 7/8 full, she added the 6 grams of dried nettles in the five second intervals like she was supposed to, and..., Cassandra jolted when she saw Snape get on to Kat about her horrible potion.
Cassandra finally calmed down long enough to add the final ingrediants. After doin so, she closed her eyes almost afraid to see the final product. She finally forced herself to look down and see the steaming, salmon colored liquid.
Cassandra glowed with the idea she might of got it right.

Elina sat quietly in her seat next to a fellow Ravenclaw she did not know, she had been there promptly when class had started; as she normally was, and had stayed quiet throughout the whole period so far. She looked up at the board and checked what she was supposed to do before starting it finally. Her lips moved slowly as she read the sentences and then decided to actually begin. A Verity Concoction, Elina thought, slightly interested.
She picked up the strands of unicorn hair to her right, which were quite thin, and measured them to be exactly 56 mm long. She then counted out ten and set those aside. She looked at her potion, saw it was boiling and looked to see how hot the temperature was. 212 degrees Fahrenheit, not quite. She waited a moment before she checked again, 213 Fahrenheit. Perfect, Elina picked up the ten Unicorn hairs and let them fall gently into the cauldron. Elina then put the Abyssinian Shrivelfigs that she had skinned while waiting for her water to boil into the cauldron and stirred in clockwise direction for 5 minutes. 5 minutes ticked by and then she switched to counterclockwise direction for one minute.
Elina's blue eyes looked up at the board and saw that she was to put 15 Jobberknoll feathers into the potion and wait for 8 minutes. With a sigh that made her dizzy slightly, she counted out 15 Jobberknoll feathers and placed them in the cauldron. Then looking at the clock, she counted 8 minutes. Going over in her mind what to do next so she wouldn't mess it up. Picking up a moonstone after 4 minutes of waiting, she started to crush it into a fine powder. Every now and then she would pick it up and feel the powder to see if it was fine enough, and look up at the clock...2 minutes left. The powder was fine enough now and she measured out .54 grams of the powder. Her fingers of her left hand sprinkled the powder into the potion when the 8 minutes was up, and her right hand stirred in a counterclockwise motion.
Don't waste any of it, Elina thought. She saw that the girl next to her had some fireball eggshell left over so Elina gently tapped her on the shoulder, "Excuse me, can I borrow some of that? Thanks." She smiled a small smile and took the eggshell, and started to hammer it into a fine powder. A lot of powder, she thought as she continued to hammer. She felt the smashed eggshell and nodded in satisfaction. Elina then weighed it to 50 grams, extremely good with estimation as she was, and added it to her potion as well. She was to let it simmer for a minute, and cut three ginger roots into even pieces. Elina sat back in her seat and watched the clock, a minute passed and she began to cut. Three roots became even pieces of root and she added those to her potion as well. She then, once again, stirred the potion for exactly 30 seconds. Peering down into the cauldron, a small smile came across her face as she realized it was a bright green color, with a light blue in it some where. She knew it wasn't a perfect potion, but it was as good as she could get it. She only hoped the Professor would agree.

"Miss White.... That will be 5 points from Gryffindor for being late," Snape drawled as he saw the little Gryffindor enter. "So...... Thought that it would be fun socializing with your friends all day, Miss Ward? That'll be another 10 points from Gryffindor......... and detention for all of you. I think that one week will do well." Snape moved on back towards the impudent Gryffindor who had defied him. He was surprised to find that Miss Micheal's potion was quite fine. "Oh, well, 5 points for the good effort, Miss Micheals," Severus said in a monotonous voice. "What do we have here?-Snape rounded on Miss Logton.- You call this a satisfactory potion? This is not good enough. I want you to redo it, Miss Logton and 5 points from Gryffindor." He waved his wand and whispered, "Evanesco." The contents in Miss Logton's cauldron vanished.
Severus strolled the length of the room before spotting a Ravenclaw 6th year who's potion seemed pretty good. He walked over and peered into her cauldron. "Your potion is fine, Miss Hill," Snape said. "Five points to Ravenclaw." He turned to Miss Lurjee who was talking back to him in class. "All right, detention for you, Kat and 15 points from Ravenclaw!!"

Brooke rolled her eyes as Professor Snape walked away. Detention! Did he think she really cared if she got detention? Oh well, maybe it was time for that prank that she and Kat had been discussing. She seemed to be on a roll with getting in detention today.
She reached down and slowly pulled a little drawstring bag out of her messenger bag and inconspicuously opened it. She pulled out a few little pellets and shoved the drawstring bag back into her big bag.
Then Brooke turned to Lily and whispered, "Hey, Lily, are you ready for what we talked about in the Hospital Wing? I have them right here."
She opened her hand a little to reveal them to Lily and grinned mischeivously.

Lily cowered as she heard Snape sentence then all to detention. She was shooting a Look at Brooke, hoping that she would remember what they spoke about when they met in the Hospital Wing. Brooke noticed, pulling out a few pellets of something and showing her. "Are you ready?" she asked. Lily grinned. "Yeah. It can't truly hurt him, though, like if it splashed in his eye, right?" Lily wanted to get back at Snape, have a little fun, but not hurt him.

Cassandra was crestfallen. She looked into her empty cauldron and was completely dumbfounded. She normally did well in all her classes, and to be called out in front of class for a horrible potion was just even worst. She didn't even want to try it again. Sometimes she wondered if she could do this whole witch thing. Cassandra started again furious at Snape. However, at times she was really glad he was hard on them. It made her strive to do better sometime just to prove him wrong. She honestly didn't think he would tell someone it was a horrible potion unless it really was horrible.
Cassandra once again began to measure the ingredients to her potion meticulously once again. She was going to take her time this time, and if took her a while it was going to take her a while.

Brooke shook her head, "The chances of that are pretty slim. Besides, it's not like Madame Pomfrey couldn't do something about that, Lily."
Brooke brushed a strand of hair out of her face. She carefully looked around the dungeon to find a victim for their prank. There was a Ravenclaw fifth year sitting in the row behind her. Jasmine Anderson was her name, wasn't it?
"Lily, do you see the girl sitting behind us. Jasmine Anderson, Ravenclaw fifth year, she's our target. Here," Brooke handed Lily one of the dung bombs, "Okay she's not looking. On the count of three we'll toss them in. 1 . . . 2 . . . 3."
Brooke tossed the dungbomb and it landed perfectly in the center of the cauldron.

Severus swivelled on spot as he heard the familiar sound of dungbombs soaring at a prodigious speed towards a Ravenclaw, Miss Anderson's cauldron. Incidents like these had happened before four years ago when three particular students had attempted sophisticated potions. Namely Potter and his 'sidekicks" who were attempting the polyjuice potion. Snape did not find that out until the year before when Dumbledore had told him. So, ever since, Snape had kept a vigilant eye on any Gryffindors endeavoring to disrupt the quietude of his class. He quickly covered the cauldron with a shielding spell, which prevented its contents from flying out when the second dungbomb exploded. His eyes flashed dangerously as he glared at the two first years; Miss White and Miss Ward. "Miss Anderson, are you all right?" Snape inquired in a very serious voice. He turned towards the two Gryffindors.
"So...... Decided to have fun did you? You thought that it would be funny to blow up potions. Well, perhaps I should remind you that some of these potions can be extremely deletrious if still brewing. Let's see, now......... I think that you two girls will have three months of detention each, scrubbing the hospital wing floor without magic and 50 points will be taken from Gryffindor!!!!" Snape whispered in a dangerous voice.

Brooke tried hard to keep her giggling to a minimal. She almost felt sorry for that girl, Jasmine. She looked extremely upset. But if she loved this stupid class that much then she would probably enjoy doing her potion again, right?
"It won't be that bad, Lil," she said to her friend, before adding in an undertone, "Atleast he didn't make us wash his greasy hair. Now that would be punishment."

Jasmine was sitting down in her seat not making a sound. Writing more notes down on her page a smile crept across the young girls face. She was having fun and her potion was quite alright. Taping her foot in the air she felt that something was wrong. Glancing at her potion she saw something inside. Knowing right away what it was she stepped back from her chair and looked at who had done this. Jasmine felt angry and now her hard work was ruined. Looking at the couple of first years she looked at them with a look of disgust on her face. They didn’t know how she felt about this epically since she took things personally with her studies. Looking at the Professor who noticed what they done she sighed and nodded her head. As she looked at her notes she wrote something down to remind her to have a little "chat" with the first years.
Turning on the cauldron she watched it as it began to boil. Once it was boiled enough she took out a bottle of salamander blood and purred one hundred litters into the boiling water. Smiling she set aside the bottle and took out her wooden potion spoon and began to stir counter clock wise. Looking over at her notes she was supposed to stir counter clockwise for five minutes than clockwise for one minutes. Once her five minutes was up she stirred the other way for a minute. After stirring she put the spoon aside and looked at her potion. It clear enough for her.
Smiling she turned down the temperature. Looking at her notes she tucked more hair behind her ears and read the instructions over again. Feeling that she was okay and sat down and watched her second potion bubble read. Sighing with relief she looked around to make sure no one else messed up this potion.

Post by Jaquin Prokenstien on Jan 31, 2005 1:13:25 GMT
Jaquin rounded the corner into a eerily lit hallway that was full of bustling students. Upon arrival, he found the class already packed full with a plethora of students, all of them meticulously weighing out their ingredients. He sat down at the back, took out his ingredients and set about creating his potion with prodigious effort. Jaquin knew that potions was not his best class, as Care of Magical Creatures/Magibiology was. However, he still possessed a lot of talent for the sciences, so, brewing potions was not as hard as it first seemed for him. Of couse, Jaquin preferred the quiescent atmosphere of the outdoors where he could show his full talent as a biologist and ecologist instead of staying in labratories and classrooms like the one he was in, slowly examining specimen or brewing potions. Jaquin could still reminisce the Oustanding of 120% he had scored on his O.W.L.s test and was determined to do the same this year in COMC. Wiping away any thoughts about COMC, Jaquin began his potion.
Ignoring the incessant chatter from loqacious neighbors, Jaquin read the instructions and took ten strands of unicorn hair, measuring them all exactly to 56mm. Then, taking his cauldron, Jaquin lit a fire and watched as the temperature on the thermometer reached exactly 213 degrees F. After adding the unicorn hair, he put skinned Abyssinian Shrivelfigs into the boiling water and stirred continuously for 5 minutes in clockwise direction. Then, Jaquin stirred his potion in a counterclockwise direction for exactly 1 minute.
After Jaquin stirred his potion and added the Shrivelfigs, he put 15 Jobberknoll feathers into the potion and wait for approximately 8 minutes. He knew that Jobberknoll feathers triggered memories and it would be undoubtly usefull in a Verity Concoction. Jaquin then took a moonstone, crushed and hammered it until it was very fine powder. Then, taking 0.54 grams of that moonstone, he sprinkled it into the boiling water while he stirred it in counterclockwise motion. Reading the next set of instructions meticulously, Jaquin took a Chinese fireball eggshell, hammered on it until it became fine powder, weighed it meticulously, and add 50 grams of that eggshell powder into his potion. He put the remaining powder on an open table to his right, welcoming others to use it.
Jaquin let his potion simmer for one minute before taking three ginger roots and cutting them up into even pieces and putting them into his potion. After adding the ginger roots and stirring the potion for another 30 seconds, his amalgamation became the color of bright green, with a tint of light blue, just as the instructions read. Jaquin was surprised by the accuracy of his potion and hoped that Professor Snape would think the same. However, the professor was rather busy with a few impudent Gryffindor 1st years whom obviously did not read the rules of the class.

"Excellent potion, Mr. Prokenstien," Snape commented with a slight smile. "Good, good, Miss Anderson. That will be 30 points to Ravenclaw, 15 each. And you two. I want you to leave this class and report to McGonagall." He pointed at the two Gryffindor girls and then pointed towards the open door.

Lily started to tear when Snape mentioned detention. The echo of her father's last words to her soared through her mind. *If Father finds out about this, he is going to kill me. No, worse than kill me.

"Yes!" Brooke exclaimed jumping up out of her seat. She would take any excuse to get out of potions. Even if it meant three months of detention. She quickly grabbed her bag.
"Come on Lily. Time to get out of here," she said before addressing the Professor, "Professor, just one more thing before I leave. This room is terribly cold. You really should consider a heating spell."
With that Brooke turned on her heel and marched right out of the potions classroom. She didn't want to go to McGonagall's office and she wouldn't. She would just head back to the common room and get a head start on her homework. She'd deal with this later.

Lily slowly got up and followed Brooke out of the class. She was going to try her hardest to hide this incident from her overbearing and overly strict father. If he found out, this was not going to be pretty.
