Severus paced the length of the blackboard, scrutinizing the multifarious ingredients needed for the complex potions the class would be making. The next potion in the N.E.W.T.s curriculum would be to make a Verity Concoction. Not as potent as the highly sophisticated Veritaserum, but nevertheless, efficacious when one needed to be questioned. The O.W.L.s students would be amalgamating a Memory Serum, whose properties were to help one recovered long lost memories or to regain memories if forgotten. Snape did not expect most to be able to create prefect potions, with the exception of a few... select students. However, he hoped that the class, as a whole, would be highly successful. Fingering a few porcupine quills, Snape scrawled onto the board, the instructions for a Boil Cure Potion. Then with a wave of his wand, the other sets of instructions appeared. He sat down on his desk, awaiting the arrival of his students.
Beginners 1st to 3rd Boil Cure Potion:
1. Add fresh water into your cauldron until it fills up to approximately 7/8 the cauldron's volume.
2. Add 6 grams of dried nettles in 5 second intervals. Then, fill your stewed horned slugs with the powder of crushed snake fangs and add three of those slugs into the concoction.
3. By then, your cauldron should be full of steaming, light salmon colored liquid.
O.W.L.s 4th to 5th Memory Serum:
1. Take ten Jobberknoll feathers and put them a cauldron filled to the 1/2 mark.
2. Make sure that the water is at boiling point before putting in 100 liters of salamander blood. Then, stir in a counterclockwise direction for 5 minutes before stirring clockwise for one minute.
3. By now, your potion should be a very light blue color, almost as clear as water.
4. Bring down the temperature from 212.9 degrees F to approximately 56.5 degrees F.
5. Your serum should be a darkish red color with throthing bubbles by now.
N.E.W.T.s 6th-7th Verity Concoction:
1. Take 10 strands of unicorn hair all 56 mm long and put it into water boiling at exactly 213 degrees F
2. After adding the unicorn hair, put skinned Abyssinian Shrivelfigs into the boiling water and stir continuously for 5 minutes in clockwise direction. Then, stir your potion in a counterclockwise direction for 1 minute.
3. After you are done stirring, put 15 Jobberknoll feathers into the potion and wait for approximately 8 minutes.
4. Take a moonstone. Crush and hammer it until it is very fine powder. Take 0.54 grams of that moonstone and sprinkle it into the boiling water while stirring it counterclockwise.
5. Take a Chinese fireball eggshell, hammer on it until it becomes fine powder. Weigh it meticulously and add 50 grams of eggshell powder into your potion. DO NOT WASTE ANY OF IT! IF YOUR TABLE PARTNER NEEDS SOME GIVE IT TO HIM/HER!
6. Let your potion simmer for one minute before taking three ginger roots and cutting them up into even pieces and putting them into your potion.
7. After adding the ginger roots and stirring the potion for another 30 seconds, your potion should be the color of bright green, with a tint of light blue.
((Remember, there are only two people who can create 'perfect potions', but I will not name their names))

Kat hurried towards the dungeons happily. Unlike the most of the school, Kat loved the subject. She literally sucked at the subject herself, but she liked Snape. He remembered her of her real brother with the snappish attitude, short fuse, longer black hair and black eyes, but with certain grace and wits. She was used to arguing and sharp remarks flying towards her quickly, so Snape made her less home-sick actually, Kat mused to herself.
She stepped into the classroom and flashed a bright grin towards Snape, as she walked to the first bench and sat down, noticing she was the first student there, as she cheerily greeted the professor sitting behind his desk: “Good morning, professor Snape. I was wondering – my brother – who is muggle, but he buys supplies from the Diagon Alley, or gets me to buy them – experiments with different potions, he reads about in books and is rather good with it. Better than me anyway and he is also a great cook. Brewing potions does resemble cooking much, so I was wondering- can you cook as well?”
Kat read the instruction for all potions on the blackboard and grinned – muggles wore moon-stones as pieces of cheaper jewelry. As a matter of fact, Kat thought, touching the tear-shaped gem on a silver chain around her neck – she was wearing a moon-stone herself at the moment.
Kat pulled out her cauldron and filled it with water, before picking up dried nettles and started to drop them in the cauldron, trying to keep 5 seconds apart from the pieces of them. Picking up the stewed horned slugs, Kat grimaced. They were rather disgusting, but she just crunched her nose and started to fill them with crushed snake fangs. She was thoroughly disgusted by the job, so she tried to get it over with as quickly as possible, then throwing three of the now filled slugs in the cauldron.
Kat watched curiously as the potion changed it’s color and started to steam. Eyeing the potion curiously, Kat noticed that it seemed to be a bit runny and certainly not the right color, she would expect from a salmon. Instead of the light pink Salmon’s were, Kat’s potion had a tint of something yellowish in it.
Kat thought about it – there had been water and not much could be done wrong with the nettles. So the problem was probably in the slugs – probably she had done a too careless job with them or filled them with too much of powdered snake fangs. Kat shrugged watching the cauldron simmer curiously, before glancing up at the professor with a curious eye-brow: “What did I do wrong, professor? Something with the slugs? Or too much powdered snake fangs?” Kat smiled – she wasn’t disturbed by the biting comments really – Snape really did remind her of her brother – but she wasn’t a Ravenclaw for nothing. She was curious what had caused this effect.

Jasmine sat in the library reading over her notes. She always was in the library reading, or looking over notes. Turning the page she read carefully her neat handing writing. The notes were on Herbology. The Nebit root, known for enlarging many things, was what her notes were about. Taking one last glance she smiled and closed her book lightly. Placing the dark blue note book in her bag she got up and looked around. It was all quiet and a few people were in there. Turning her head towards the clock she smiled as she just dragged herself away in time. A big smile lay on the five-teen year old face. Potions class was her favorite class and loved to brew up potions and learn what can help and what can not.
Walking out of the library she walked down long corridors. People were running around trying to get to their next class on time. But of course Jasmine was a onetime girl and never was late. Smiling at people as they passed her she noticed how much she has progressed. Before she wasn’t able to look at a person and now she was smiling, that was a big step for her. Tucking her dark brown hair behind her ears she opened the door to the class room. Rather disappointed that she was not having class with Vanessa she took a seat in the middle row. Looking around her for some one she might know she saw no one. Sighing she looked up at the board.
Wondering what they were to do today she took out her supplies. Picking up each feather carefully she laid them out on the table. Counting ten she put them in her cauldron and purred some water inside. As it was to the half mark she stopped and looked up at the board once again. Picking up her quill she dripped it into its ink tray and began writing down the first step to many. Potions were not that easy to make and she knew no one could make it prefect the first time. Well Jaquin, Percues and Hermione were very bright people and she admired them for it.
Turning on the cauldron she watched it as it began to boil. Once it was boiled enough she took out a bottle of salamander blood and purred one hundred litters into the boiling water. Smiling she set aside the bottle and took out her wooden potion spoon and began to stir counter clock wise. Looking over at her notes she was supposed to stir counter clockwise for five minutes than clockwise for one minutes. Once her five minutes was up she stirred the other way for a minute. After stirring she put the spoon aside and looked at her potion. It clear enough for her. Biting her lower lip she wondered if she messed up or not.
About to raise her hand she stopped herself and noticed the potion turned clearer. Smiling she pushed back her other thoughts and turned down the temperature. Looking at her notes about her tucked more hair behind her ears and read the instructions over again. Feeling that she was okay and sat down and waited for her potion to turn red and bubble. Waiting she crossed her legs and looked at the watery substance. It reminded her of the ocean that her mother and father took her too. Smiling at her memory she awaited for her friends to arrive.

"This..... is a waste of materials....." Snape drawled as he swepted pass Miss Lurjée. "I will not waste my time teaching a bunch of dunderheads, especially if they are lazy.......... Miss Lurjée... That will be 5 points from Ravenclaw." Snape ladeled the yellowish, salmon liquid into a jar. "Evanesco." The contents of her cauldron vanished. "You added all three slugs too quickly, making your potion utterly worthless. I want you to start over, and make sure your potion is perfect, or else you will be staying after class." Slipping his wand back into his robes, Severus headed towards the next Ravenclaw in line.
As he scrutinized Miss Anderson's potion, Snape found that it was near perfect. "Good, Miss Anderson....... If you continuing working this hard, you will undoubtly score high on your O.W.L.s in potions. Five points to Ravenclaw...." Snape said promptly. "However, if I find that your finished product is not at O.W.L. standard, you will have done all that work for nothing."

Lily walked in to Potions a bit intimidated by what some of the other students had said about the professor. It made her feel a bit easier knowing that Kat would be in there with her. She spoke a shy "hello" to the Professor and then took a seat next to Kat. She looked at the Potion that she was supposed to concoct and then began:
Beginners 1st to 3rd Boil Cure Potion:
1. Add fresh water into your cauldron until it fills up to approximately 7/8 the cauldron's volume.
2. Add 6 grams of dried nettles in 5 second intervals. Then, fill your stewed horned slugs with the powder of crushed snake fangs and add three of those slugs into the concoction.
3. By then, your cauldron should be full of steaming, light salmon colored liquid.
Lily began the potion, carefully measuring the water into her cauldron. She spilled a little on the table and stopped to mop it up.
Next, she added the nettles as best she could, but her measuring cuo had some of the numbers rubbed off, so she had to guess as to where the 6g mark was. She could only hope it was right.
After that, she filled the stewed horned slugs full with the powdered snake fangs and put the 3 required into the potion.
Lily was glad to be finished, and noticed that her cauldron was bubbling with a light pinky color. She looked over at Kat, who was worried about her potion. "Well," she said. "Here goes nothing. I think we did it right."

D.J. thought very deeply about going to potions, she didn't despise that class like most of the students at Hogwarts did, she simply couldn't do it. She hated not being able to do something if she tried really hard at it. And no matter what she did, it was always wrong. D.J. wasn't a screw up, she didn't go out and party instead of studying, she stayed in; and read a book or went over notes. Potions though, always seemed to faze D.J. to a point where she did want to run off and party, but she didn't. She stayed and studied for tht class so she could at least pass it.
She had an inner debate whether to even try in Professor Snape's class today, and the stronger half won. So she was indeed going to work at getting her potion correct today. Maybe today the potion would be at least a little easier than the others she had to endure, many class periods before. As she entered the potions classroom she looked up at the bored, and read the instructions for O.W.L.s. Not, even remotely easy. But, no one got anywhere without trying. So she found a seat, excluded from everyone else and sat down. D.J. wrote down 1-5 on a piece of parchment so she wouldn't forget them and then began.
Take ten Jobberknoll feathers and put them in a cauldron filled to the half way mark,D.J. thought. She glanced at her cauldron which was definitly empty and waved her wand, filling it up with water to the half way mark. She eyed it for a moment before coming to a conclusion that it wasn't at the half way mark; but indeed above it at least a centimeter. D.J. waved her wand again, the water disappeared and new water reappeared. This time at the right measurement. She smiled with pleasure and then began to count out the feathers. Her head was tilted in concentration as she picked each feather up, examined it and placed it down seperately. She did this with ten of the feathers and then isolated the rest of the Jobberknoll feathers before continuing with her potion.
Make sure that the water is at boiling point before putting in 100 liters of salamander blood. Then stir in a counterclockwise direction for 5 minutes before stirring clockwise for one minute,D.J. read to herself before looking around for the salamander blood. She found it and measured out 100 liters, or what seemd to be. D.J. was never good with measuring, her cauldron water for example wasn't exactly 1/2. She set the 100 liters of salamander blood aside before, checking her water to see if it was at boiling point. The boiling point of water was;212 degrees Fahrenheit, and 100 degrees Celsius. She didn't know how to check the temperature, so she just watched the water until it was boiling at a steady pace.
D.J. looked at the coloring, through the white bubbles and saw it was a light blue. Her favorite color in fact, it would be a shame to ruin it. But, alas she had to. She brought the boiling point down to 56.5 degrees Fahrenheit, as instructed and waited a moment. Every now and then checking to see what color it was. Slowly it turned to purple, then to a deep red, with bubbles. She checked the board to see if it was correct, seeing that she had indeed completed her potion, she raised her hand waiting patiently for the Professor to come around to her potion.

As Snape moved along the many students bickering to get his attention, he spotted two Gryffindor girls who had the thoroughly annoying looks of satisfaction plastered to their faces. But, Severus was sure that their potions had flaws. He strolled over to where Miss Ward's potion was. Snape examined the contents meticulously. He ladeled some of the potion up swirled it, then let it drop back down into the cauldron with a splash. "Your potion is fine, Miss Ward."
However, Severus was not in a very good mood that day. Rounding on the older Gryffindor student, D.J. Micheals, Severus sneered and said, "You expect me to take this as a potion? This..... -He stuck a ladel full of potion in Miss Micheals face.- is not at the O.W.L. standard. I want you to redo your potion. That will be 5 points from Gryffindor."

Justin walked down the familiar corridor to the Professor Snapes classroom. He did'nt feel like goingfto school today, but he had to start doing better in school. he had been studying extremely hard lately, so he could pass his classes and his O.W.L.s.
Entering the class, he looked around and saw a seat in the back. He walked to the back, let his backpack fall to the ground without a care. Sitting down, he looked up at the board and read the instructions. He filled his cauldron to what he was sure was the half way mark. Then he added the ten Jobberknoll feathers to the steaming water and read the next set of instructions.
"Hmm," he thought to himself, " guess this is a good class." He then looked down at the water and noticed that it was at boiling point. He added the one hundred liters of salamander blood. After adding that he began to stir the potion counterclockwise. After five minutes were over with, he stirred the potion clockwise for exactly a minute.
Looking up at the board he saw the next set of instructions. He glanced down at the boiling potion. It was a very light blue potion and it was almost as clear as water. He then lowered the temperature to just about 56.5 degrees farenheit. He then watched as the color changed to a darkish red color. He thought that he would at least pass. He then sat there waiting for the Professor to see how he had done.

"With all due respect, Professor. I see absolutely nothing wrong with this potion. The color is precise and the bubbles are elegant. Maybe if you were to actually show us how to perform these potions, Professor, we could learn how to do it properly. There are some students in here that have horrid potions, and you award them points or like their potions to satisfactory level, and the others who come in here quietly and are able to perform these tasks without saying a word, such as I. And that is difficult, because I talk a lot. Ask anyone. I come into your class, and I pay attention, I do my best and what do you do? You insult me and others. Professor Snape, maybe it's not our potions that aren't satisfactory, maybe it's your teaching. Throw me into detention, do what ever you want...but, I don't see anything wrong with this potion." D.J. stated towards the Professor calmly. She really wasn't worried about a detention. She had nothing that he could take away from her. She wasn't on the Quidditch team, so it was all fine and she didn't do anything after school but read, she didn't even go to Hogsmeade on the weekends.
"I will re-do my potion though, because I can't stand to think I failed at something." D.J. added after a moment, she then turned back to her potion ingredients and started over, slightly bemused by her actions.

"You must remember, Micheals, I expect the best of the best in my N.E.W.T.s class. It will be a very sad day if you ever join my N.E.W.T.s class with this kind of an attitude," Snape drawled as his eyes flashed dangerously. "Dear, dear, it seems as if you are questioning my judgement. Remember. No one. I repeat, no one, is allowed to insult the way I teach this class. That will be 30 points from Gryffindor, 15 for hesitating to re-do your potion and 15 points for insulting the way I teach this class." He strode back to his desk and towered over all the students. Scanning the room, Snape asked, "So, does anyone else have anything to say?"

Post by Christina on Jan 25, 2005 2:58:20 GMT
Christina was in the library studying her notes that she had taken in numerous classes over the last couple of days. She was always one to work very hard and last year she had gotten a particularly high score on her O.W.L.S. Christina looked at her beautiful watch that she had gotten for christmas from her mother. The watch had small dimonds on the gold band of the watch and also around the face of it. It was very expensive and it was very special to her since her family was not very rich. Class was starting in about ten minutes so Christina put all her books back in her bag and carefully placed her ink bottle and quill at the ver bottom in a secret compartment that she had made for it so that if the ink spilled, it would not get all over her books. She swung the bag over her shoulder and set off through the noisy corridors in search of the dungeons.
When she finally found the door that would take her into the dungeons she opened them quickly hoping that she wasn't late. She was very relieved to see, when she saw the classrom, that there were only a few students there. Christina looked down the rows of desks and saw jasmine sitting by herself. She had only met Jasmine once before, but knew that she was very kind because f her step - sister, Molly. Christina walked towards an open desk right by Jasmine and sat down.
Christina took out a piece of parchment and quickly began to jot down the directions that were on the board. Once she had done that, she looked into her cauldern and put the water in, making sure that the temperature was 213 degrees. She then took out her supplies and layed them accross her desk. She counted ten unicorn hairs and measured them. They were all the right size so she put them into her cauldren carefully so as not to get burnt by the extremley hot, boiling water. She then added the skinned Abyssinian Shrivelfigs into the water and began to stir with a wooden spoon for five minutes in a clockwise motion and one minute in a counter clockwise motion. After stirring she poured the 15 Jobberknoll feathers into the potion, she sat back in her chair and occasionally looked at her watch until the eight minutes were up. Christina looked at her notes and saw that she needed to crush a moonstone into powder. sounds simple . . . Christina thought and with a wave of her wand a hammer appeared and she began to pound the moonstone until it was a very, very fine powder which looked like fairy dust. She took a scale that measured grams and slipped the powder on to it and took a little off and then back on until she had approximantley .54 grams of it and poured into the cauldern while picking up her wooden spoon once again and stirring in a clockwise motion. At this point Christina knew she could not make any mistakes or else all her hard work would go to waste. She did the same thing with the Chinese fireball eggshell, but this time weighed it until it was 50 grams and poured it carefully into her caudren desperatley trying not to spill any of it. Looking over she saw that Jasmine she was had already finished hers plus she was O.W.L.S. not N.E.W.T.S. like she was not able to give her extra powder to her. oh well, if I see anyone else who needs it I'll give it to them. she thought and moved the dust to the corner of her desk and put a spell on it so that it would not fall all over the ground. She watched it simmer for a minute. After it had simmered enough she took the three ginger roots and cut them and making suerthey were even she placed them into the cauldern and stirred for thirty seconds.
Once she was done she noticed that the water had turned very bright green and a little blueish color was mixed into it. Christina smiled, she had mixed the potion successfully. Potions was always one of her favorite and best subjects. She looked over at Jasmine's and saw that she too had done it correctly after glancing up at the board. Christina smiled even brghter and sat back in her seat waiting for more instructions.

Grace looked up from the great hall at the clock. The hands were moving slowly and she yawned as potions was about to come up. She didn’t know if she was dreading the subject or going to enjoy it today. Grace could not ever get her potions right and asked her fellow Ravens for help. Taking a last sip of her juice she put the goblet down and got up from the table. Stretching her arms into the air she yawned and picked up her bag and left the great hall. Walking down the dudgeons she thought of what might happen. N.E.W.T.S students had allotted harder potions than any other years. Rolling her eyes she looked all around her at the hallways. People walked down and some one pushed her out of the way. Frowning she looked up at the girl as she apologized. Not making a big deal she continued to walk down the hallways towards Potions.
Opening the door to the room she had noticed some people had arrived. Smiling at them all she walked towards the middle and sat down in an empty row. Taking out her note book she placed it to the side of her and took out all her supplies. Looking up at the board she began to read. Taking out her wand some fresh water appeared in her cauldron and she turned it so it could boil at 213 degrees F. watching it bubble she took out her unicorn hairs and measured them. It had to be at least 56 mm long in length. Making sure her strands were alright she dropped them into the boiling water. Looking up at the board again her gat down some notes to remind herself. Potions class was not a strong class for her but she tried and that was all she could ask from herself.
Taking out her skinned Abyssinian Shrivelfigs she dropped them into the boiling water. Wondering what this potion was going to be all about she would have to wait. Looking up at the board again she continued to read. Whispering the directions to herself she took her potion spoon and started to stir. She had to stir counter clock wise for five minutes than clock wise for one minutes. Continuing to stir she hummed a tone lightly to herself. Hey why couldn’t a class be fun? After her five minutes was up she stirred the other way. Putting her spoon down she picked up 15 Jobberknoll feathers and laid them out on the table. Making sure it was alright she put them all in her potion and waited for eight minutes.
In her time waiting she decided to smash the moon stone up. Smashing it into little pieces she continued to hum. Looking up she noticed that Snape was saying for a Gryffindor to redo her potion. Quite interested she turned back to her own and sparkled some of the smashed moon stone into her potions. Picking up her stirring spoon she began to stir counter clock wise one again. As she stirred she continued to look up at the board wondering what her next steeps were. Taking out an egg shell she became to hammer this into fine grain. As it became little dust she sparkled some into her potion and knowing it weighed 50 grams.
Taking her knife she began to cut up her root. Chopping it up into thin and even slices she smiled and continued her work. Maybe the potion was going to turn out just fine after all. Flipping back her hair she continued to cut up the root. Once she was finished she looked back at the board. Grace at times had a bad memory and always had to write things down. Picking up her sliced up pieces she put them in her potion and stirred for thirty seconds. Smiling she put her spoon down and waited for her potion to turn color. Crossing her legs she watched it turn dark green with some blue swirls in it. She liked the color and waited for Professor Snapes approval.

Rayne sat in her common room reading her potions book. She hated Potions but from what she'd heard it was a very difficult class and it had a very mean teacher who hated anyone but his own house. Rayne looked at her watch and found she had only 10 minutes before class started. She really didn't want to be late so she packed up her book and made her way down to the dungeons.
Once inside Snapes classroom she looked for a place to sit. She knew Kat but she was already sitting with someone. Since she didn't know anyone else she decided to sit alone. It would probably be better for her any way less distractions.
Rayne took out a piece of parchment and copied down the instructions for the potion they were to make that day.
3. By then, your cauldron should be full of steaming, light salmon colored liquid
Rayne placed her cauldron on the table and filled it up with fresh water. Rayne then realized that she hadn't measured it and sure enough looking into her cauldron it looked like it was more then 7/8ths of the way full. Not wanting to fail Rayne dumped out the water and began again this time making sure it was right.
The next part sort of confused her add 6 grams of dried nettles in 5 second intervals. Was she supposed to only add 6 grams or was it supposed to be 30 that she'd end up putting in. She decided to add 6 grams of dried netteles 5 times. Shaking she did that and then filled her stewed horned slugs with the crushed snake fang powder and added them into the potion.
Once she was done she noticed that her potion seemed to be the right color but she remembered what Jordan had said about him yelling at someone because the potion wasn't red enough. She put a trembling hand into the air and waited for Snape to assess her potion.

Kat wasn’t really intimidated, as Snape got rid of her potion and comment how bad it was. She wasn’t really moved about loosing the points either – she knew she would easily be able to get them back in Charms, where she really shiner. “Added the slugs too early. Got it,” Kat said with a small salute towards Snape, as she started to fill her cauldron with water again nodding and smiling at Lily, as she sat next to her and waving to Rayne, who had cam entered and was sitting alone.
Getting the right amount of water, Kat started to drop the nettles in, keeping one eye on the cauldron and the other on the watch. She might not be able to do everything perfectly at once, but she was a quick learner. And she had done everything else correctly before. Dropping the exact amount of the nettles into the cauldron, Kat started to work on filling the slugs with powdered snake fangs again. The job was still as disgusting as before, so Kat wrinkled up her nose, but was more careful this time, adding the slugs a bit later.
The potion changed it’s color and turned into salmon-pink, causing Kat to wrinkle her nose again. She really didn’t like pink, as she waved the steam coming from the cauldron away.
“Is it correct now?” Kat asked professor Snape calmly lepeering inot the cauldron closely. At least to her the potion seemed alright, Kat decided comparing it to Lily’s potion quickly. “You did it right – I already screwed up the first patch,” Kat whispered back to Lily with a wink, that wasn’t really worried “And you didn’t answer my questions earlier, professor. Can you cook as well as brew potions?” Kat addressed professor Snape again with a twinkle in her eyes, as she leaned back in her chair, “And would you please stop the miss? Makes me sound old and too formal. Call me Kat, or just Lurjée, if you may, professor.”
Dana entered the potions classroom and noticed that she wasn’t the last, although quite few people were present already. Dana took a seat and looked at the black-board. She wasn’t the best in potions, but she wasn’t too bad either. With a small sigh Dana pulled out her cauldron and filled it with water half-way, before picking out ten Jobberknoll weathers and putting them slowly into the water. She had learned from experience that it was better to brew potions calmly and rather slowly than to throw everything in carelessly.
Dana let the water boil, when she discovered with horror that her measuring cup was broken. Dana sighed and transfigured one of her hair-clips into a measuring stick and figured out how much was 100 litres of Salamander blood just when the water started to boil. Dana poured the blood in the cauldron and looked to the black-board to see what was the next instruction.
The water was clear, like a very clear and light sky would be, Dana decided peeking into her cauldron before starting to lower the temperature under the cauldron. After being successful in that, Dana looked in the cauldron again to see that it had changed color. It was red and bubbling, although it was rather a bit burgundy color than dark-red. The color was off about 2 tones only, so Dana decided that the potion would be passable. Not perfect, but passable, and Dana let out a calmed sigh.
She snorted with laughter at Kat’s question, if Snape was a good cook as she got the mind-picture of Snape wearing a white chef’s hat and a white apron and cooking. She covered the snort with a cough quickly, though and smiled innocently at Snape, waiting to hear what he would think of her potion, when he would reach her.

Brooke trudged slowly to her potions class that day, which was probably the reason she was late.
"Professor Snape," she said, nodding to the Professor, as she took an empty seat on the other side of Kat.
"Hey Kat, how's it going?"
Brooke didn't really care how well she did in this particular class. First of all she was incredibly awful at potion making and second of all she couldn't care less for the professor. Brooke set up her cauldron and filled it with the appropriate amount of water. She carelessly measured out the nettles and tossed them into the cauldron in what she guessed were 5 second intervals. She really should get a watch. Brooke grimaced at the slugs before filling them with the powder of crushed snake fangs, making sure to touch the slugs as little as possible. She dropped three into the cauldron and sat back to see how it made out.
"Urgh!" Brooke grimaced once again. Her cauldron had turned a puke green color and was emitting a smell like old athletic socks. Brooke turned to Kat and Lily, who was sitting on the other side of Kat, and spoke to them with her nose wrinkled up:
"Now that," Brooke pointed to her cauldron, "is why I hate potions. Imagine what that would taste like. I would choose the boils any day."
She giggled, knowing full well that Snape would more than likely have some rude remark for her.

Kat looked up and smiled as Brooke entered the class-room a bit late and sat down next to her. “Morning, Brooke,” she greeted the other girl silently, so not to disturb other students, and gave her a small smile, ”Screwed up the first patch of the potion, this one seems about alright to me at last. Otherwise I’m great.”
Kat had been occupied with her own potion while Brooke was brewing hers but she had finished a bit earlier, so she glanced at Brooke’s cauldron. “I see what you mean,” Kat said with a grimace peeking into Brooke’s cauldron, “Snape will have a field-day though.”
Kat glanced around to where Snape was criticizing someone’s potion and turned back to Brooke with a wink: “I kind of like his snappish attitude, as weird as it is. He reminds me some-what of my brother. So I was wondering yesterday, exactly how pissed he would be, if I called him ‘Uncle Sev’.”
Kat told Lily and Brooke with a small grin and a lowered voice, so that the conversation wouldn’t reach everybody in the classroom. Kat glanced at Snape again after finishing, to see him approaching the three girls with a stormy expression.

Brooke raised her eyebrows a little at Kat. She had never heard anyone say that Professor Snape reminded them of their brother before. But if that's what got her through this horrid class.
"Reminds you of your brother? That's interesting. And I could really care less what Snape thinks of my potion."
Actually that couldn't have been farther from the truth. For some reason Brooke wanted to make Snape really really mad. She hated people who just pushed other people around because they could. And she hated not being able to speak her mind feely. Which she most certainly couldn't do in this class. Brooke followed Kat's glance and saw Professor Snape walking towards them.
"Hold on to your hippogriffs girls," Brooke whispered, "Here he comes."

Good going, Deej minus 35 points in one class period. She thought as she started to re-do her potion. She counted out ten more jobberknoll feathers. Refilled her potion to the halfway mark, and then put the feathers inside of the cauldron. The water wasn't at boiling point yet, so she simply sat there and waited until bubbles started to form up out of the cauldron. D.J. then added 100 liters of Salamander blood and then stirred it counterclockwise for 5 minutes. Five minutes went by, she then immediately stirred for one minute clockwise.
D.J. then brought the temperature down from boiling point to 56.5 degrees Fahrenheit. Watching the potion, she watched it as it turned from a clear blue to a deep darkish red. Bubbles were throthing, as Snape described it, and she sighed in wonder at what he would criticizse this time. Snape, latin for harsh or stern.D.J. recited in her head, describes him perfectly.

Lily waved as Brooke entered the class a bit late and took a seat to the other side of Kat. Lily talked a bit with them quietly, since she had completed the potion, and watched as the other two began brewing. (Kat had made a mistake in the first one.)
She giggled a little when Brooke had to handle the slugs. "I was a bit grossed out too, but I didn't make a fuss because I figured Snape would take points."
Lily listened as Kat told the girls how Snape resembled her brother and commented that it would be funny to see his reaction if she were to call him 'Uncle Sev'. "Well, i dare you," she said with a mischievous grin.
.She saw Snape headed towards the three as Brooke said, "Hold on to your Hippogriffs, girls!" They giggled as he approached. Lily instictively slouched in her seat. Sure, she had completed her potion, but what would he say to her about her talking?
