Severus paced the length of the blackboard, scrutinizing the multifarious ingredients needed for the complex potions the class would be making. The next potion in the N.E.W.T.s curriculum would be to make a Verity Concoction. Not as potent as the highly sophisticated Veritaserum, but nevertheless, efficacious when one needed to be questioned. The O.W.L.s students would be amalgamating a Memory Serum, whose properties were to help one recovered long lost memories or to regain memories if forgotten. Snape did not expect most to be able to create prefect potions, with the exception of a few... select students. However, he hoped that the class, as a whole, would be highly successful. Fingering a few porcupine quills, Snape scrawled onto the board, the instructions for a Boil Cure Potion. Then with a wave of his wand, the other sets of instructions appeared. He sat down on his desk, awaiting the arrival of his students.
Beginners 1st to 3rd Boil Cure Potion:
1. Add fresh water into your cauldron until it fills up to approximately 7/8 the cauldron's volume.
2. Add 6 grams of dried nettles in 5 second intervals. Then, fill your stewed horned slugs with the powder of crushed snake fangs and add three of those slugs into the concoction.
3. By then, your cauldron should be full of steaming, light salmon colored liquid.
O.W.L.s 4th to 5th Memory Serum:
1. Take ten Jobberknoll feathers and put them a cauldron filled to the 1/2 mark.
2. Make sure that the water is at boiling point before putting in 100 liters of salamander blood. Then, stir in a counterclockwise direction for 5 minutes before stirring clockwise for one minute.
3. By now, your potion should be a very light blue color, almost as clear as water.
4. Bring down the temperature from 212.9 degrees F to approximately 56.5 degrees F.
5. Your serum should be a darkish red color with throthing bubbles by now.
N.E.W.T.s 6th-7th Verity Concoction:
1. Take 10 strands of unicorn hair all 56 mm long and put it into water boiling at exactly 213 degrees F
2. After adding the unicorn hair, put skinned Abyssinian Shrivelfigs into the boiling water and stir continuously for 5 minutes in clockwise direction. Then, stir your potion in a counterclockwise direction for 1 minute.
3. After you are done stirring, put 15 Jobberknoll feathers into the potion and wait for approximately 8 minutes.
4. Take a moonstone. Crush and hammer it until it is very fine powder. Take 0.54 grams of that moonstone and sprinkle it into the boiling water while stirring it counterclockwise.
5. Take a Chinese fireball eggshell, hammer on it until it becomes fine powder. Weigh it meticulously and add 50 grams of eggshell powder into your potion. DO NOT WASTE ANY OF IT! IF YOUR TABLE PARTNER NEEDS SOME GIVE IT TO HIM/HER!
6. Let your potion simmer for one minute before taking three ginger roots and cutting them up into even pieces and putting them into your potion.
7. After adding the ginger roots and stirring the potion for another 30 seconds, your potion should be the color of bright green, with a tint of light blue.
((Remember, there are only two people who should be able to create 'perfect potions', but I will not name their names.))

Vanessa looked at the clock in the Hufflepuff common room, dreading the hour in which Potions was to come to. When she saw the hand reach the number, she grabbed her shoulderbag and left the common room. Making sure to leave at least 10 minutes early so she wouldn't be late to class, Snape wouldnt' waste time deducting points. Especially from a Hufflepuff. Vanessa was a quiet girl when it came to class, and she normally did things correctly, if she didn't the first time; she continued trying though, she was never really one to give up on things.
As she made her way to the dungeons it became colder and Vanessa had no urge to pull her robes tighter around her. She just let the cool breeze float by her without a slight notice. Pushing open the door, she found a seat near the middle and pulled out the supplies she needed before staring up at the blackboard. She bit her bottom lip in concentration as she began reading wha the O.W.L.s were supposed to be doing, once finished she counted out ten Jobberknoll feathers and placed them aside.
Filling her cauldron to the half way mark, she eyed it strategically before placing the feathers in. She wasn't sure how precise her measurements were but, they were as good as it was going to get, it wasn't like the cauldron was see through or anything of the sort. So she couldn't see if she filled the water to the half way mark exactly, she hoped it was enough though considering she couldn't afford to get this potion wrong and be embarrassed as she normally would be. Curse her being an over-achiever. Putting the water to boil, Vanessa went off in search of salamander blood, vile stuff that was. She didn't understand why Potions had to consist of such vile concoctions, yet it was a necessary course for many reasons that Vanessa couldn't possibly begin to list. Checking the water, and seeing that it was boiling steadily, she trickeld the 100 liters of salamander blood into the water with the feathers. She started to stir, but stopped. Which way was counterclockwise? She closed her eyes and imagined a clock, going left was going counterclockwise. So, Vanessa began to stir left. She looked at her watch on her left hand and after 5 minutes, she switched to stirring clockwise. One minute passed and she looked at her potion. It was blue, but slightly more foggy then water. She stirred it for thirty more seconds and checked it again, it was the way it should be.
Pulling the stirring stick ( her mind was too hard at work to think of the correct term) from the cauldron and placing it on the desk in front of her, she slowly brought the temperature down as instructed. She watched the potion, turn from a pretty blue to a dark red and start to bubble. She bit her lip and sighed, wondering if she had screwed up in some point. She checked the board to make sure she had followed every instruction precisely, and she had...so she must've done it right. Vanessa sighed, and sat back in her chair...wondering what she should do now, was she supposed to show Snape or await further instructions?

Snape glided over to where Vanessa Nicholson was brewing her potion; she was a Hufflepuff that Severus was not too fond of and he knew that her best subject was definitely not potions. He found that her potion was not as perfect as it could have been. "I see that you have worked hard, Miss Nicholson, but, your potion is not dark enought," Snape said as he took a ladel and scooped up some of Vanessa's potion. Pulling his cloak up, Snape drawled, "Tut tut... I guess that's 5 points from Hufflepuff........" He let the Slytherins have their hearty laugh before going over to his next victim....
((Don't take it personally, Vanessa; the Snape in Harry's 6th year will not be very happy, indeed.))

*Pyro walked easily down the corriders towards the dungeons, his bang slung across his shoulder. He was extremely early in heading to potions class, but he didnt care, he had nothing better to do but just sit around and be bored.
He enjoyed potions class, or more, the location of potions class. the cold and breezy dungeons had always been alluring and fascinating to him. He reached the dungeons and made his way to snapes classroom. He stoped outside the door and leaned the against the wall, he didnt want to seem to eager to get to class.
He stayed against the wall untill he heard footsteps off in the distance, signaling that students were beginning to come to class. He pushed off the wall and steped into the classroom. He took a seat near the front of the class so he could see the board clearer. He set up his couldron as students began to filter into the class and waited for class to begin.
He read the insturctions on the board twice and attuned them to memory. He than got some fresh water and began to fill up his couldron, he filled it up to what looked to be about 7/8 of the couldron. He than got some dried nettles and measured out 6 grams. he picked one up and droped it into the couldron, than he mentaly counted as he picked up another one. 1.....2.....3.....4....5 he droped the other one in and repeated this untill all 6 grams were in the couldron He almost lost count on one instant because he laughed as a hufflepuff had points taken away.
He pulled out three stewed horned slugs and began to fill them with crushed snake fang powder...once all three were filled he droped them into the couldron..his potion was now steaming. He leaned over the couldron and looked in, he had no idea what light salmon color was suppose to look like, but he hoped that was it.*

Kris took sharp turn as he glanced at his watch. HE was a minute late when he halted sharply in front of the potions classroom. Closing his eyes Kris’s face took a stoic impression and he wiped the lipstick off from the corner of his lips, before entering the potions classroom steadily.
“Good morning, professor Snape. Pardon, me being late, but I run into some distractions,” Kris said with a deep bow to the potions master. Snape was his head of house after all and an excellent potions master, so Kris had respect to him. He himself wasn’t too good at potions, but he managed to do fairly well. And in the prestigious summer camp for wizards had made them brew potions as well, which had improved his skills a bit.
Kris slipped into a seat in the middle of class and pulled out his cauldron, knowing he would be less than likely to get in trouble, since he was a Slytherin. And it wouldn’t help, if he got to work quickly. He filled the cauldron more-or-less precisely and added the Jobberknoll feathers, pushing one further away, as it had broke. Kris settled down to wait until the water would boil and glanced around the classroom, before concentrating on his own potions again, as he started to measure the salamander blood.
After the water had reached the boiling point, Kris added the Salamander blood steadily and started stirring. His movements were a bit too harsh though and he stirred a bit longer than necessary, Kris found as he glanced at his watch again noticing that the water was a little foggy and seemed to start setting on the walls of the cauldron lightly.
Deciding he couldn’t do much about it, Kris lowered the temperature under the cauldron calmly, watching as the potion started to bubble and changed it’s color. Picking some up with his ladle, Kris examined it closer – the color was nice and dark crimson red, but it was a bit too thick. He would probably pass, but not with flying colors.
Kris let the cauldron bubble, as he leaned back in his chair, waiting for the time, when professor Snape would reach him.

Jordan Cortes wasn't late, but she wasn't exactly early either. She knew this as she sped down the corridors to get to Potions; one of her least favorite classes. It reminded her a lot of muggle Chemistry that her brother Justin was always complaining about. Mixing things, and sometimes blowings things up, on accident of course. Jordan would never do any of those sorts of things on purpose. She neared the door to the dungeons and felt like she wanted to scream, but she gathered a breath and entered with a semi-sweet/innocent-smile on her face.
Her deep brown eyes searched the classroom for anyone she knew, anyone at all. Her eyes stopped on Vanessa Nicholson and she quietly made her way over to her freind. She sat down next to the gloomy looking girl, and understood immedately what had happened, her potion wasn't good enough. Jordan sighed and shook her head as she looked up at the black board to find the instructions like they always were. Biting her lip, Jordan looked down at her cauldron. Measuring; another thing Jordan didn't like. Alas, she had to fill it up with clean fresh water to 7/8 of the cauldron.
Doing so, and appropriately, Jordan came back to her seat and then looked at the board for further directions in which she was going to do. 2. Add 6 grams of dried nettles in 5 second intervals. Then, fill your stewed horned slugs with the powder of crushed snake fangs and add three of those slugs into the concoction. Egh! Jordan thought with disgust. None the less she grabbed the dried nettles, that was definitly 6 grams and started to add a little bit every 5 seconds. 1....2.....3.....4....5 drop! 1....2....3....4....5 drop! She thought with a little bit more hyperness that she had intended. When all 6 grams of dried nettles was gone, she turned to the stewed horned slugs.
She filled the slugs with crushed snake fang powder, each one precisely the same amount as the other. Jordan then added them to the potion and watched with anxiety as her potion began to steam. Apparently Hufflepuff had already lost points, and couldn't afford to lose another 5 points. Jordan looked into her cauldron and saw what looked to a pinkish color, she didn't know the exact shade of salmon, considering she was color blind with red and pink. She just hoped it was the right shade...

Walking at a fast pace towards the dungeons, Jersey took a quick glance at her pocket watch, that had belonged to her father. Pulling it out of the pocket of her cloak she noticed that had been a few minutes late. Rolling her eyes, she shoved the pocket watch fiercely into the her pocket as she pushed open the Potions door with a loud thud. Directing her eyes towards the set of long instructions Professor Snape had on the board, Jersey protruded towards near the back, as she had not wanted to be bothered by anyone.
Placing her books on the desk, she fiercely began to shuffle through her bag to find her glasses that she had used strictly for school work. Sighing deeply as she remembered she had left them on her nightstand, she picked up her belongings and grumbled towards the front of the room. Annoyed, Jersey dropped her books onto her desk and looked at the board ready to go. Jersey had always enjoyed Potions, it had never been her favorite, but it always in some way seemed to catch her interest.
Cracking her knuckles and placing a determined look on her face, Jersey read the first step under N.E.W.T.'s allowed to herself. "Take 10 strands of unicorn hair all 56 mm long, and put it into water boiling at exactly 213 degrees F." As Jersey grabbed her cauldron she reread the sentence, making sure to do everything as follows, for Jersey somehow always ended up screwing it up. Filling the cauldron with water, she turned it the boiler up to 213 degrees. Once done with that, Jersey went on a fetch for the 10 strands of unicorn hair. Taking the 10 strands, Jersey measured each out perfectly to 56 mm.
Looking over at the water Jersey saw it come to a boil. Counting out all 10 strands of unicorn hair, Jersey placed them each in 1 by 1 as to make sure the count of 10 was correct. Reading the next direction, she grabbed the skinned Abyssinian Shrivelfigs, and began a stir in a clockwise direction for 5 minutes. Timing the 5 minutes precisely, she then stirred the other way for a minute.
Looking at the next direction, Jersey looked at the 8 minutes which she would have to wait and sighed. Grabbing the 15 Jobberknoll feathers she put each in 1 by 1, as she did the unicorn hair. Scanning the next direction, Jersey grabbed the moonstone and crushed it hard with a hammer as it had directed, making fine powder. Measuring out .54 grams, Jersey immediately sprinkled and stirred the mixture. Staring deeply into it, Jersey smacked her forehead as she had forgotten to wait 8 minutes, looking back at the clock she realized only 6 minutes and 30 seconds had passed. Sighing and hoping that the outcome would still be the same, Jersey continued on, not dwelling too much on her mistake.
Reading step 5, Jersey saw that it said directly to not waste any of it. Trying to be careful Jersey took the Chinese fireball eggshell, and hammered it into a fine powder. Weighing it carefully, Jersey added the 50 grams of eggsell in the potion. Pushing her extra to the side, Jersey took a glance around the room to see if anybody needed it.
Reaching the 6th step, Jersey let the potion sit, and then added the ginger snaps, that she had tried only a little bit to make them even. Reading the last step Jersey smiled, "Almost done." she said aloud, hoping for a good product. Stirring the potion for the 30 seconds required, she saw that her potion did not turn a bright green, but yet a rather sad and dull green and as Jersey could tell there was no tint of anything. Sighing, Jersey threw her hair behind her ears, and smiled, "Atleast it's green." she said aloud.

Jason walked into the potions classroom and walked over to a table that was completely empty. He slung his bag off of his shoulders and sat down. Maybe today he could have a few minutes relaxation from his other studies. He had already developed most of the potion that his year was to learn, and then some that were more advanced for his age level. Looking upon the board, he saw that he was to create a Boil Cure Potion. Reading the instruction he got to work.
He began to fill the water until it was exactly seven eighths of the way full. Maybe it was him, but he always did like potions. He watched as the water began to steam. He then began to add the six grams of dried nettles at five second intervals. One...two...three...four...five he added a gram, and continued with the same method each time, until he was done. Then he filled his stewed horn slug with the crushed snake fang powder and added them to the potion.
Staring down at his cauldron, he saw that it was indeed steaming and that it was the light salmon color that it ought to be. He sat back in his chair waiting for Professor Snape to come and check on his work.

Vanessa lowered her head and sighed with slight defeat. She breathed in deeply before gathering the neccessary materials and restarting again. She looked up at the board, and re-read everything making sure she understood what to do. After she finished reading it, she nodded her head and counted out ten more Jobberknoll feathers. She then filled the cauldron half-way and put them in there. Salamander blood- she measured out 100 liters and checked the water making sure it was at boiling point. Bubbles were bubbling, so it was.
Putting in the salamander blood, Vanessa started to stir it counter clockwise...this time remembering which way that was. She stirred while looking at her watch, and when the five minutes was up, she switched to stirring clockwise for one minute. Peering down into the cauldron, she saw the potion was indeed a light blue color and she could almost see through it. She slowly brought the temperature of the flame down from 212.9 degrees Fahrenheit, to 56.5 degrees Fahrenheit.
The potion steadily turned into a darkish red, and once again Vanessa waited to see what Professor Snape would say about her potion this time. She wouldn't mind redoing it...she liked to have things correct no matter how many times she did it, but if it was wrong..it would probably bring her mood down some more. She patiently waited to see what he would say. She checked her potion once more, and then realized the bubbles weren't throthing. She sat up and looked into her cauldron...wondering what she could do. She narrowed her eyebrows, and was about to raise her hand and ask what she could do to make it right...when bubbles started to form. Smiling, Vanessa sat back and waited once more.

Post by Perseus Feynman on Jan 26, 2005 2:32:42 GMT
Perseus was in high spirits that day, he did not know why, exactly. However, his mood was as elated as it could get. Perhaps it was because they would be having potions that day. His favorite and best class had always been potions and he was best at it in his year. Vaguely reminiscing the outstanding he had acquired on the subject in O.W.L.s, Perseus smiled. Not only did he have great affinity for potions, but, Perseus also had a natural talent in muggle sciences and mathematics, having already been accepted at Princeton University in the United States. His best subjects were physics, astrophysics, mathematics (calculus), chemistry, and astronomy. In the magical world, Perseus excelled at alchemy/magichemistry, potions, herbology, astronomy, and arithmancy. Of course, he had his weaknesses; he dropped out of History of Magic and Divination class after his O.W.L.s.
As Perseus rounded the corner, he found the class already bustling with multitudinous students, all of them meticulously beginning their potions. He sat down at the back, took out his ingredients and set about creating his potion with sedulousness. Ignoring the incessant chatter from loqacious neighbors, Perseus read the instructions and took ten strands of unicorn hair, measuring them all exactly to 56mm. Then, taking his cauldron, Perseus lit a fire and watched as the temperature on the thermometer reached exactly 213 degrees F. After adding the unicorn hair, he put skinned Abyssinian Shrivelfigs into the boiling water and stirred continuously for 5 minutes in clockwise direction. Then, Perseus stirred his potion in a counterclockwise direction for exactly 1 minute.
After Perseus stirred his potion and added the Shrivelfigs, he put 15 Jobberknoll feathers into the potion and wait for approximately 8 minutes. He knew that Jobberknoll feathers triggered memories and it would be undoubtly usefull in a Verity Concoction. Perseus then took a moonstone, crushed and hammered it until it was very fine powder. Then, taking 0.54 grams of that moonstone, he sprinkled it into the boiling water while he stirred it in counterclockwise motion. Reading the next set of instructions meticulously, Perseus took a Chinese fireball eggshell, hammered on it until it became fine powder, weighed it meticulously, and add 50 grams of that eggshell powder into his potion. He put the remaining powder on an open table to his right, welcoming others to use it.
Perseus let his potion simmer for one minute before taking three ginger roots and cutting them up into even pieces and putting them into his potion. After adding the ginger roots and stirring the potion for another 30 seconds, his amalgamation became the color of bright green, with a tint of light blue, just as the instructions read.

Post by Professor Severus Snape on Jan 26, 2005 2:42:35 GMT
Severus had been strolling the length of the classroom, examining the plethora of potions, correcting as many as he could, and occasionally handing out punishments. He could not see why so many people still had not grasped the subtle sciences of potions, especially the 6th years, whom he had lectured interminably. As he turned away from a Hufflepuff girl, Snape spotted Mr. Feynman, a Slytherin with rather comtemptable ideals, especially dealing with the purity of blood. Nevertheless, he was one of Snape's best students, perhaps most adept at the subtle sciences of potions. Severus liked the student very much, but was not too happy with his befriending of certain Gryffindors. "Excellent potion, Mr. Feynman. That will be 15 points to Slytherin. Good, Ms. Nicholson... I see that you have remedied your skills. Five points back to Hufflepuff," Snape said promptly.

Post by Pansy Parkinson S7 on Jan 26, 2005 3:33:47 GMT
Potions class! Best class period! Then again, perhaps Pansy felt that way simply because she enjoyed watching Snape make Potter squirm rather than enjoying potion making. In any event, Pansy entered the class with a grin on her face that was quickly wiped away when she looked around. Hufflepuff!? They were spending the day with the Hufflepuffs!? Pansy didn't have that much against them, it's just she much preferred to torment Gryffindorks. She in fact had a list of things she was going to do today to try and top her previous high score from last year when she had gotten Snape to take 25 points from Gryffindork for Potter's behavior. With no Gryffindorks to abuse, Pansy scowled and walked into the room.
Scanning the room she grew a bit more angry and she looked and saw none of her friends had shown up yet, the closest thing she could see to a friend was Jersey, another 6th year. Walking over to her table, Pansy threw her bag down and waited for class to begin, though she didn't say a word to Jersey. The instructions were on the board, though Pansy reluctantly looked up to read them, she had no incentive today now that she had no one to pick on. Once the rest of the class had set to work, Pansy poured water into her cauldron and spilled some, she next lit her fire and watched it burn and boil the water. When the amount of bubbling was about the same level as that of the others when they added their unicorn hair, Pansy checked the temperature and found it to be 208, good enough Pansy thought as she carelessly tossed in 10 unicorn hairs. The next step was the Abysimminal Shrivling somethings, whatever they were Pansy tossed them into the potion and stuck her large spoon in as well. There was no way she was about to stir that for 6 minutes! Instead she took out her wand and simply waved her wand around and around and let the spoon imitate her wand action for the 5 minutes, then 1 minute in the other direction.
The next step was to put 15 Jobber something feathers. There was only one type of feather available so Pansy grabbed 15 of them and tossed them into her potion and then sat back. "Jersey, where's Dawn?" she asked, not really caring if Jersey was busy with her own potion at that moment or not. To pass the remaining time she had to wait, Pansy looked around and found someone who looked like a slightly suitable replacement for Potter today. She was a Hufflepuff, looked to be 2nd or 3rd year. Pansy discretely set her wand down on her table and turned so that it squarely pointed at the little Hufflepuff, she then proceed to glare at the girl while she waited for the 8 minutes to pass.

Post by Ivy Tunstall on Jan 26, 2005 17:50:58 GMT
Ivy arrived on time for the Potions lesson, as always. She was terrified of Professor Snape, and would have been unable to do anything else. Worse, she was aware that their lesson today was with the Slytherins. Phoebe was all right, if you didn't offend her, but a lot of them were just irrational in their hate of Muggleborns and Halfbloods. Snape was just as bad. But Ivy didn't have time to concentrate on that. She needed to get on with her potion.
Ivy wasn't too bad at Potions, but she wasn't exactly brilliant either. She saw that there were hardly any Huflepuffs in the room at the moment and so made her way over as unobtrusively as she could to where Vanessa and Jordan were sitting, giving Jordan a nervous smile as she looked up at the board to see what they were doing. A 'boil cure' postion, apparently. Ivy read through quickly what was needed and filled her cauldron with water until it was about what was wanted. She looked up again to check what she was supposed to do, her hands fiddling nervously.
She took her dried nettle and added them at five second intervals. That wasn't too bad. Every time they went in they made a satisfying little 'plop'. Ivy just hoped it wasn't too loud a plop. She looked down at the stwed horned slugs in disgust. They were rather floppy, having been stewed. She took the snake fangs powder and started to fill the slugs neatly with it. She added three of those, as required by the instructions on the board.
Ivy looked down at her potion anxiously to see what colour it was. She was terrified that the Professor would come and tease her infront of the whole class or take points from Hufflepuff. She tried her best, and did fairly well. That was enough for most of the other teachers, but Ivy knew that Professor Snape would probably dislike her merely for being a Hufflepuff. The rest of his house would. The potion was steaming gently, and it was the colour of salmon. Ivy wondered if it was supposed to be the colour of cooked or raw salmon as she gazed into the contents. The liquid was quite pale. Ivy just hoped she'd got it right. If she had got it wrong, she had no idea where she could have done so.

Post by Isabella on Jan 28, 2005 2:24:28 GMT
Isabella was walking down the corridor towards Potions class. It was her favorite class next to Defense against the dark arts and Muggle studies. A smile lay on her face and she tucked some of her light blonde hair over her shoulders. The sounds of her feet echoed in from the walls. Listening to the sounds around her soul seemed to be calm. Taking a deep breathe from her stomach she smiled and felt a shiver come up her back. It was a pretty cold day and Isabella didn’t dare to go outside. The winds seemed as if they were trying to knock down the castle. Pulling her dress robes closer to her body she opened the doors. Looking inside she noticed some people had already been there and were working on there potions. Isabella wondered if she was late for class or not. Walking to the last row she set her books down next to Perseus and looked at the boy with a smile on her face. Isabella really hoped that the boy didn't hated her. She had changed for a long time.
Sighing she sat down and looked up at the board. Pointing her wand towards the cauldron water than filled inside. Turning up the temperature at exactly 213 degrees F she watched the water began to boil. Turning up towards the board against him took out ten strands of unicorn hair. Eying them carefully and measuring them with her fingers they were exactly 56 mm long. Dropping them inside she watched it move around inside, and than took out skinned Abyssinian Shrivelfigs and put it also in the boiling water. Biting her lip she took her potion spoon and began to stir counter clock wise for five minutes. Once she had stirred for five minutes she than went clockwise for a one minutes.
As she had finished she back up at the black board and looked at the next set of directions. Taking out 15 Jobberknoll feathers she put it into her potion as well and waited for eight minutes. Tapping her foot on the flour she waited for the result of her hard work so far. Than she took out a moon stone and started smashing it into fine grain. Smiling as she got her anger out while smashing it she picked up some of the fine gram. Estimating that it was 0.54 grams at weigh she sprinkled it into her potion and began to stirring counter clock wise once again.
After she was finished she thought she had done a pretty good job. Trying to stay forced she took out Chinese fireball eggshell and started smashing it into fine grain too. As she was finished she picked up some of the fine gain and felt that it was its right weight. Sparkling it into her boiling potion she looked up at the board yet again. Isabella had a bad memory at times and could forget allot of things. Biting her lower lip she took out three ginger roots and began chopping it up. Making sure it was all even pieces she put it into her potion as well after waiting for it to shimmer for a bit. Picking up her spoon she began to stir. Her arm felt tired but she ignored the pain and continued to stir.
As she was fished she set aside the spoon and sat more down in her chair. Looking around the room she saw Jordan a third year Hufflepuff and smiled. Than turning her head she saw Pancy and thought she was causing trouble. Turning back to her potion she waited for what Snape had to say about it.

"An excellent potion, Miss Parkinson," Snape said as he watched Miss Parkinson concoct a potion almost as good as Mr. Feynmans. "That will be an additional 15 points to Slytherin......... And what is this?" Snape had stopped by Miss Tunstall's cauldron. He examined the contents closely, as he saw the color was a bit too pale. Snape knew that she must not have measured every ingredient correctly. It must have been the slugs. Severus looked down at Miss Tunstall after a few seconds of contemplation. She must not have added enough powder into her slugs. "You have worked hard, but, I see a substantial amount of carelessness in your work, and that WILL not be accepted, especially if you hope to pass O.W.L.s in potions class. Now, I want you to redo your potion meticulously. Five points will be taken from Hufflepuff." Snape did not expect Tunstall to create a perfect potion, even after the second time.

On time as ever Mary walked briskly down the endless Hogwarts corridors minutes before Potions class began. She made her way into the Dungeons with a grin on her face. She may not be the best at the subject but Potions certainly interesting. Stepping into the classroom moments before it began Mary slipped into a table at the back and unpacked her things. Her book bag had just landed on the desk as class began. Looking up she saw that she would be making a cure for boils. Wanting to start off on a good foot Mary was careful in adding the water to her potion until it was about 7/8 full.
Looking at the next instruction she grabbed the dried nettles and separated them. She added the first bit in. ‘One Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississippi, four Mississippi, five Mississippi’ she counted unconsciously moving her head from side to side with each number. She then added the next bit and repeated the counting. She did this until all the nettles were gone.
Mary glanced around the room just then to see how everybody else was making out. She then heard her potion bubbling and remembered what she had been doing and looked at the board for the next instruction. She threw in the stewed horned slugs with the powder of crushed snake fangs before adding three slugs.
The instructions said her potion should be “steaming light salmon coloured liquid” looking down she saw hers was steaming and a very pale pink. It was likely not the exact right colour considering the pink was but a tinge, likely from when she lost her concentration, but it was hopefully good enough.

Ivy sighed as the Professor moved on. Not in any other class was she penalised for trying her best but failing. She would try again, and she would do better. "Evanesco", Ivy muttered, glad that the Professor had at least not this time humiliated her by doing that for her. She filled up her cauldron to 7/8 of its volume again, looking anxiously to see when to stop. Then she got out her scales to weigh the dried nettles. 6 grams... exactly. They went in every five seconds. She counted it. Exactly. She made sure she had the timing right with her watch. Once they were all in she sliced open her slugs neatly and filled them, filled them this time with the powder. She added three of them carefully and peered into the liquid. It was a slightly darker shade this time. Ivy waited quietly and nervously for the Professor, hoping that she had done it better this time.
