((This class is for fourth and fifth years that are in any house.))
It was a cold morning and Sybil was making sure the class was ready to begin. The puffs of smoke could make any one a little dizzy. Shaking her head she looked at the board and over her lesson plans. Today was O.W.L.S well be working on reading other people tea leafs. Of course she new that not everyone will be correct or right and she won’t take any funny business. Just then her breath caught sort as she wondered if Mr. Potter would be in class that day. Puffing her blonde hair more she looked at the steps which had been already out for the students to enter. Taking a deep breath she welcomed every student who came her way. "Good morning!" she called out and flipped through a stack of papers. Her hands started to shake from some one presence near. Looking at the girl she tisked at her and walked over towards the window. Pulling it open for the cold air to enter the room. Rubbing her hands together she picked up a piece of chalk and write on the board.
Make sure you have your books, you will be needing them today. Turn to page 188 in "Fortune-Telling by Tea Leaves: A Practical Guide to the Ancient Art of Tasseography" by Sasha Fenton
Putting the chalk back down the board she rubbed off the dust on her wrinkly hands. Turning around swiftly she sat down in her chair and waited for the students to arrive. Sybil was normally one to expect the best of her students, and if they didn't show her the best then she didn't show them the best. It was an expectation that Sybil had set when she had come three years ago to Hogwarts, and she expected the students to live up to it. If not then they surely wouldn't learn anything. As she finished sifting through the papers, Sybil glanced and smiled, realizing that near everyone was already there, she couldn't wait for class to begin.

D.J. wasn't really that interested in Divination, and she knew that Professor Trelawney would have her head if she said that aloud, but D.J. really saw no point in that dreadful class. Okay, sure it was a class to buy the time with, but really that was it. She didn't see how she could use this later on in her life and really, D.J. didn't care. But, yet she signed up for it every year, and she wondered why...D.J. confused herself sometimes. As D.J. entered the Divination Classroom, which was unfortunately up billions of flights of stairs and threw a ladder into what would be an attic in the Muggle world. And to top it off, the classroom was stuffy. So stuffy.
"G'morning Professor." D.J. greeted happily as she reached the top of the ladder and climbed inside the stuffy classroom. She glanced at the board, seeing that there wasn't a seating chart, she found a seat near the back up on a rafter. Setting her bag down next to her as she sat down in the chair, D.J. looked around the room, giving it a thorough expection. It was very crowded, with things like crstyal balls and tea cups in every corner of the room. Something D.J. didn't normally enjoy. Trying to shake the feeling of being surrounded, D.J. took out her book and flipped it open to page 188. Her eyes already weary from thinking of reading.

Dana groaned and took as long as possible as she was walking towards the Divination class-room. She despised the subject but her grand-mother had requested that Dana would take it for at least a year, to understand it. Reaching the stairs that lead up to the classroom Dana sighed and glanced at her clock, which showed that she was still just in time. She never saw anything in Divination classes, so she usually just made stuff up. She had a rather good imagination, so Trelawney seemed to be satisfied usually.
Dana mumbled something at Trelawney’s greeting and moved straight to a table under a n open window, pushing it over even wider. “What the hell is always smoked in here?” Dana muttered moodily, leaning out of the window to catch a breath of fresh air, before she sat down. Glancing up she read the instruction on the black-board and pulled out her book. Dana opened it on page 188. ‘Great, now I have to drink some funny tasting tea as well, today’ Dana thought moodily, pulling out a new thriller from her book-bag and ignoring the professor completely, started reading the thriller.

Katie walked slowly down the hall. Oh, how she wished she hadn’t been so naïve as to sign up for Divination class. If she had only known then what a load of rubbish it was she never would have signed up for it. She could have taken another sensible class instead. Oh well, she would drop it after O.W.L.’s anyway, so she could pursue something a little more efficient and a lot less time consuming. She was tired of all the nights she had wasted on dream journals and predictions from the stars. It was stupid and pointless in her opinion, but this was the trouble of being an overachiever. Katie couldn’t drop it until she narrowed down her courses which, thank heavens, would be at the end of this year.
Upon entering the divination classroom she tried to suppress the coughs that were threatening to come jumping out of her throat. Just then she heard a familiar voice from someone by the window. Katie looked over and saw Dana Coran take a seat. She walked over and sit her things down on the area next to Dana’s. Dana had just started to read a book. ‘Why was she reading in the middle of class?’ Katie thought, ‘how would she know what’s going on?’
“Hi Dana,” Katie said quietly, “What are you reading?”
Dana looked up as someone sat next to her and greeted her. “Hi, Katie,” Dana said with a broad smile. At least she wouldn’t have to suffer through the class alone. “This?” Dana raised the book she had been reading so Katie could see if, before putting it on the table, “”Heat kills”. A thriller – it’s rather good actually.”
Dana let out a cough and groaned letting her head thump on the table: “No offence, if you like Divination, but what on earth was I thinking, when I joined the class? I really dislike the subject and I can never see anyhting, so I think up my home-work usually, I have to admit. And whatever she smokes in here always gives me a head-ache.”
Katie nodded in agreement. "That smoke is a rather awful smell. I can hardly stand it. I haven't a clue how someone could stay cooped up in here like she does, but I guess you just get used to it after a while." She lowered her voice so as to be sure that no one else but Dana could hear her, "I personally think it's a load of rubbish. If I had only known before I signed up for it . . . but anyhow we can drop it next year when we start N.E.W.T classes, right? So it's not all bad."
Katie picked up the book and flipped through it, "It looks interesting. I'm reading The Man and The Iron Mask at the moment, it's no where near a thriller though. I usually don't read thrillers, but I have borrowed one on occasion from my sister. So, what is your book about?"

Post by Lenora Byers on Feb 20, 2005 1:06:43 GMT
Lenora got out of bed that morning with a smile on her face; today was divination. This was her favorite class; it was the only place she could be as melodramatic as she wished and the teacher only liked her more for it. She danced around the while singing as she got into her uniform and brushed her long blond hair. With one final spin Lenora practically skipped down the stairs out and out of Gryffindor Tower. Once in the Great Hall she ate a hurried breakfast of strawberries, grapes, toast and water before rushing up to the astronomy tower.
“Good morning Professor” she practically sang as she climbed of the last few rungs of the ladder. Looking around she only saw three other girls had arrived, one of them being a fellow Gryffindor who was in the year ahead. Lenora had never spoken to the girl but was never shy when it came to making friends, especially when they were Gryffindors like herself. “Hello D.J.” she said to the girl as she slipped into the other chair at the table. “Mind if I join you?” she asked even though she was already in the process of taking her textbook out of her bag. “Tea leaves how exciting. I do so hope class begins soon.” Lenora said with a genial smile while resting back in her seat.

Kris scowled as he climbed the staircase to Divination classroom. As he was in a good enough shape, he wasn’t angry of the physical exercise it required, but he was already irritated by the class. And the absolutely batty teacher. Kris didn’t realize how people could dislike Snape 24/7 and be able to stand Trelawney. Reaching the trap-door Kris climbed in easily, slamming the door closed with a satisfied smirk as Trelawney seemed to jump a little. Or was it just wishful thinking?
As Kris had known that his cousin – Dana, was in the class he hadn’t even bothered to bring his won book and quill, so he just crossed the classroom to where Dana was sitting with some Hufflepuff Kris didn’t know. “Why the hell did I let Meredith talk me into taking this class at least for one year?” Kris almost growled to Dana, while letting himself sink into an armchair next to her as he sent an evil smirk towards Trelawney. He almost wished that the lunatic professor would predict his death today. At least he could have some fun then.
Reaching over Kris moved Dana’s book so he could see the title of the story-book she had been reading and smirked. “Heat kills” had been a good book – about a serial killer, but the clues he had left had been intriguing. Not bothering to do much else Kris pulled the window completely open to let the smoke inside the classroom out before settling back in his chair. Kris closed his eyes and folded his arms over his chest, while asking Dana calmly: “Think I would be able to get expelled from this class if I annoyed the professor enough? Would certainly be worth the shot.”
Dana looked up as the door opened and was then slammed closed once again and rolled her eyes at Kris, as he walked his way with empty hands, obviously expecting to use her book. Dana didn’t really mind actually – Kris was more like a brohter than a distant cousin, besides he would more than likely carry her staff downstairs after the class. “You agreed, because you are a sucker when it comes to saying no to the four women who are family for you –and Meredith is one of them,” Dana answered Kris’s question calmly before smiling to Katie, “Katie, meet my cousin Kris. And he’s rude to almost everyone, so don’t mind him, please.”
“This book – it’s about a killer. Every time it get’s warm enough he robs two girls – kills one and leaves some clues about where he left the other girl. The second girl is always alive but in a situation where she possibly can’t stay alive for more than 24 hours. One clue for example was a tree-leave of a rare tree in an American state and a living snake pushed down the dead girl’s throat. And how the F.B.I. starts hunting the murderer,” Dana gave a quick summary of the book before grinning, “It’s a muggle book – obviously, but it’s rather good.”
Dana frowned towards Kris’s direction as he hadn’t even bothered to lower his voice at his last statement: “Play nice, now.” Glancing up Dana noticed that Trelawney was about ready to start the class so she sighed and pulled her book closer to her: “Here we go again. Wake me up, when I fall asleep or if the fumes get to my brain, alright?”
Dana shook her head, silently thinking that Kris annoying the professor would at least make the class more interesting, as she started to listen to Trelawney. Dana wasn’t sure how long would hold in this class though.

"Divination! Divination! Divination!" Ashley called out in the hall skipping down to Trelawney class room. A cheery smile laid on her face as she continued down the corridor. Divination was fun especially with Trelawney! The old woman was funny and made her laugh all the time. Divination was also a great place to sleep. Hello there were those puff thingies and it goes in the air and makes anyone drowsy. Ashley always seemed to fall asleep in that class and it was fun. There was no reason she could get a detention from saying the puffs made her sleepily. Ashley never used excuses but it seemed that the old woman was horrid. Really come on she always told death for everyone. But it still was fun to see the expression on her face. Oh how Ashley loved this class.
Continuing to skip down the corridor and walked up the stairs. Stairs than feel from the class room and she walked up them and saw some people were in here. Taking a deep breath Ashley tried to calm down. In large crowds she would often get very hyper and talk a lot. There were so many things to talk about. Like the windows, weather, classes, people, smell, and many more things. Walking over towards a table she sat down on the other side of D.J Michaels and smiled. "Good even' everyone. I love this class. Oh yes I do!" Ashley said with a smiled and looked rested her chin on the table. Her eyes began to get heavy. Wow what a new record! Just two minutes into the class she was already tired.

James walked into Divination class alone, with his heavy book bag slung over his shoulder. He absolutley despised Divination, it was such a load of rubbish. James sat down near a window covered in thick red curtains and prepared to fall asleep, but was interrupted by one of the few crazy people who actually liked the old bat that called herself a Professor talking and giggling.
"Oh, bloody hell. I wish they would all shut up for once." James sat up and opened his book in front of him, and started to read.
The room had a strong stench and nauseating fumes.
"Oh my god, does she ever even open the window? Does she even know that it's possible to open one?" James opened the curtain wide and pushed the window open, then moved over so that he was closer to the window and stuck his head outside. He breathed deep and exhaled.
"Much better," he thought.

((This is Elina's post. There weren't enough people in NEWT.s so I am making this a compained class))
What a day it had been so far! Two essays were due the next day, a reading assignment due Friday, and the horrible and yet welcomed Divination was still ahead. Elina couldn't help but, smile as she made her way through the halls to one of her most favorite classes at Hogwarts. Divination was by far, one of the classes Elina payed most attention in. Though the rest of her classes recieved equal amount of attention as well. Students would try to stop her and talk a little while, but Elina would always say she was going to be late, and rush off to class. No time for socializing when you were a N.E.W.T.
"Good Morning, Professor Trelawney. Isn't it a wonderful day today?" Elina asked in warm greeting as she entered the classroom. Others said it was always a bit stuffy, but Elina thought it perfect for the air of Divination. She found a seat near the front, but not right in front...and pulled out her book. Of course she had many books on Tasseography, but the book that was needed for this particular lesson was Tea Leaf Reading, by William W. Hewitt. Her blue eyes watched the corner of the pages as she flipped through them, searching for page 230.
The nicely printed numbers appeared and she stopped flipping through the book, and set it in front of her on the table. The table held a small tea set, two cups, a tea kettle, and four bags of tea leaves. She wondered what lesson would be taught today. Glancing at her book, she saw it gave no help in her curiosity. Elina sighed in slight defeat as she realized, that her patience would be rewarded when everyone else arrived.

((This is Maria post. She is the other student that was the second on in NEWT.s))
Today was an okay day for Mia. She had fun classes but was not looking forward to Divination. Professor Trelawney always seemed to pick on her for some reason. It made Mia mad to look at the older women and almost feel like throwing a crystal ball at her. "Well it’s not the old bats fault is it....?” She thought in her mind and continued down the hall way. There were students trying to rush to get to the next class. Some were also talking in large groups and not worrying when the bell would ring. Sighing Maria entered Divination dreding every moment. "Good after noon professor!" She said in a cheery voice hoping that she wouldn’t pick on her today and walked over towards a table and sat down next to Elina.
"Elina I hate Divination I can't believe I have to be in here for a whole another year!" Mia said almost banging her head on the table. Taking her hair out of its pony tail she shacked her head a to make sure it wasn’t not bother her. Al thought she would not being paying attention today she still would have a wonderful time sleeping. Resting her chin on the table she felt her eyes grew heavy. Heaves of puffs smoked from the center of the table and rose into the air making her feel drowsy. Closing her eyes she felt like sleeping and drifted off into a sleep.

"Settle down now everyone!" Sybil said looking around the room. She did not know that this many people were interested in the art of Divination. Walking next to each and everyone she than stopped dead in her tracks and noticed two girls ore seeming to screaming out to her. "Young lady I see the art of Divination not in you..." Sybil said and touch the girls hand and tisked her tongue. At least it wasn’t another Potter which she could tell death for him every time she noticed the boy. "Don't worry Miss Fleming and Miss Byers not everyone has the gift...." Sybil said walking down the isle looking at each of her students. Tuning around suddenly catching everyone off guard, "Now can any body tell me what is the actual name of tea leave reading? Anybody at all?" She said waiting for the hands to be raised but knew no one might get the question right.

Jake hurtled round the corner, becoming increasingly out of breath. As he ran he steadied his wrist to look at his watch. Divianation, the first class of the day had started five minutes ago; he was late. Jake shouted a quick, "Shut it!" As he passed Sir Cadogan's portrait and continued with quickened pace towards Trelawney's classroom. He couldn't say it was his favourite subject in the world, he found his inability to 'see' anything very irritating, but regardless of this Jake wasn't keen to lose any points for Ravenclaw.
"It seems like it's unavoidable now though," Jake thought bitterly, as he climbed the ladder. He could hear Trelawney's misty voice wafting on the perfumed air coming from the trapdoor. As he reached the top and pulled himself into the classroom the usual over-bearing, scented smoke emitted from the fire that was burning hit him, clinging to his throat. Jake supressed a hacking cough and gave an apologetic look towards the Divianation teacher.
"Sorry I'm late, Professor," He apoligised, hoping dearly that she wouldn't take too many points for his tardiness. He took off his bag and sat down behind Katie and Dana, who he had met before. Normally he would have said hi and maybe struck up conversation but he decided glumly that, seeming as though he had already been late, he would try and toe the line for a while whilst Trelawney got on with forgiving him. He took out his books rather hurriedly and flipped to the right page.
A saving grace came when just as Jake sat down Trelawney adressed the class with a question : the actual name of tea leave reading. Jake knew this, it was right there infront of him, at the top of the page. He stuck his hand up in the air and waited to see if the professor would give him a chance to answer.

Riku slowly made her way up the ladder to Divination. She had come just in time, not too late, not too early. She quickly took her seat and put her head down.
It wasn't that she didn't like Divination class. As a matter of fact, she didn't mind it much. She even thought the teacher was okay in her own way. She just didn't know much about Divinition and today she was just tired, plain and simple.
She put her head up when she heard someone sit at the table with her. She looked up to see Jake, who she had met numerous times before. SHe smirked her herself as she put her head back down.
"You are so going to get in trouble," Riku thought to herself with a sigh.
