Severus paced the length of the blackboard, scrutinizing the multifarious ingredients needed for the complex potions the class would be making. The last potion in the N.E.W.T.s curriculum would be to make a Wolfsbane potion. While this potion cannot cure lycanthropy, it does prevent the extremely dangerous dementia which accompanies the transformation from human into werewolf. Severus knew that it would be difficult, but if one could create such a potion, they would have proven themselves, having mastered the art of potion making. The O.W.L.s students would be amalgamating the Draught of Peace, whose properties were to help one heal a troubled mind, giving them a sense of peace and tranquility. Snape did not expect most to be able to create prefect potions, with the exception of a few... select students. However, he hoped that the class, as a whole, would be highly successful. Fingering a few porcupine quills, Snape scrawled onto the board, the instructions for a Wound Sealing Potion. Then with a wave of his wand, the other sets of instructions appeared. He sat down on his desk, awaiting the arrival of his students.
Beginners (1st-3rd years), Wound Sealing Potion: 1. Add 2 gallons of clean water into your cauldron and bring the temperature up to 100 degrees C. 2. Add 10 dried nettles into the water once it begins to boil and begin crushing your 5 snake fangs and add them in after they have become a fine powder. 3. When the potion has taken on a milky-white color, add 5 stewed horn slugs. 4. Take the cauldron off the fire and wait for 1 minute for it to cool and add 5 porcupine quills. 5. The potion should be a light green color, very smooth.
O.W.L.s (4th-5th years), Draught of Peace: 1. Pour 3 gallons of water into your cauldron and bring the temperature up to 100 degrees C. 2. Add 5 grams of lacewing flies, crushed. 3. Add powdered moonstone, 10 grams, and stir three times counterclockwise. 4. Allow to simmer for seven minutes. 5. Add two drops of syrup of hellebore. 6. Stir the mixture clockwise three times and four drops of salamander blood. 7. A silvery vapor should now be rising from your potion and the potion should be clear like water.
N.E.W.T.S (6th-7th years), Wolfsbane Potion: (6th and 7th years should pair up in twos.) 1. Pour 4 gallons of fresh water into cauldron and bring the temperature up to 100 degrees C. 2. Add 10 pounds of frozen Ashwinder eggs and wait for them to melt. 3. Skin four Abyssian shrivelfigs and add it to the potion. 4. Stir 6 times counterclockwise and 6 times clockwise. 5. Wait for 5 minutes before adding 5 milliliters of salamander blood. 6. Stir 3 times counterclockwise and 4 times clockwise. 7. Add four powdered bicorn horns before stirring the potion 5 more times counterclockwise. 8. Crush a moonstone and add the fine powder into the solution. 9. Take 10 grams of aconite/monkshood/wolfsbane and stir 6 times clockwise. 10. The potion should have a silvery look to it, like liquid silver, yet very watery and a large amount of smoke should be coming from your potion.

Daf ran down into the Ravenclaw common room and was just about to go out when he realized he forgot his cauldron. Running back upstairs, he flung open his trunk and grabbed the cauldron, along with his set of scales he would be needing to measure his potions ingredients.
Closing the trunk, me ran back down the stairs and out the common room door. As he round the first corner he slowed down to a leisurely pace. Going down the steps to the dungeons where potions class was held, Dafydd tripped on his robe. d**n it. I need to get my robes shortened
As Dafydd reached the classroom door he looked at his wristwatch. There was still another 5 minutes until class.Ah well, better early then late.
Stepping into the room, Daf nodded his head in greeting toward Professor Snape and made his way to his usual spot at the back of the room.Daf was the first student there.
Setting his cauldron and scales on the table, he sat down and waited.

O.W.L.s (4th-5th years), Draught of Peace:
"Righty then." Jordan said as she read the board when she walked into the potions classroom. Potions wasn't her least favourite class like most peoples, but she didn't enjoy it as much as she did others. She put a fair attempt in doing her potion correctly and if she didn't do it correctly the first time- she continued to do it until she got it right. She took a seat and continued to read.
1. Pour 3 gallons of water into your cauldron and bring the temperature up to 100 degrees C.
Jordan set her cauldron on the table in front of her, and took out her wand. She tapped the edge of her cauldron and it was soon filled with 3 gallons of water. The next step was to light the fire, she lit it and brought the heat up to 100 degrees celsius. She did this by using the fire lighting spell, and inching her wand upward one hundred times- hard and tiring but very accurate.
2. Add 5 grams of lacewing flies, crushed.
"Crushed flies...egh..." She said with disgust as she started to crush some flies. She weighed them every now and then until they were exactly 5 grams. She knew how important exact measurements were in things like potions. She didn't want to mess up her potion and cause points for Hufflepuff. Though that was probably going to happen anyway, she didn't want to be the cause of it.
3. Add powdered moonstone, 10 grams, and stir three times counterclockwise.
Powdered moonstone was a messy powder, but Jordan liked it. It looked cool. She weighed that as well. 10 grams, right on the dot. And added that before stirring it three times counterclockwise. Jordan sometimes had a problem with clockwise and coutnerclockwise, but she made certain she was stirring the correct way because that would be tragic if she wasn't.
4. Allow to simmer for seven minutes.
Jordan sat back in her chair, closed her eyes and thought about her future. She was doing that a lot lately. Deciding what to do with her future. She was going to be a sixth year next year, and if she really wanted to persue her life- she had to buckle down and start with her actual studies and looking at possible career choices.
5. Add two drops of syrup of hellebore.
Seven minutes later she added two drops of hellebore.
6. Stir the mixture clockwise three times and four drops of salamander blood.
"Right, clockwise this time." Jordan spoke to herself as she stirred it three times clockwise. And then added four drops of salamander blood. She hated salamander blood. Actually, Jordan hated any blood. So it wasn't just salamander blood. She hated salamanders too. But that was something entirely different.
7. A silvery vapor should now be rising from your potion and the potion should be clear.
Jordan watched as the vapor rose from the cauldron. She peered inside, swishing the vapor away, and saw that the potion was clear. She hoped it was the right kind of clear. Because Snape's clear could be totally different from Jordan's type of clear. She sighed and decided to wait and see.

Linda walked into class serenely taking her usual seat in the back, it wasn't that she wanted to escape the Professor really. Although remembering her first year when she had sat in the front bravely, only to be half-deaf by the end of class with all of his incessant yelling about how they were all idiots whom deserved to choke on their own saliva--more or less. Now she sat in the back, safer, and also with a better view of everyone else. It was a guilty pleasure of hers she guessed, she loved watching people in the most innocent of ways, their actions, their interactions--it was all rather fascinating for her.
Sighing, she took out a piece of parchment and noted down the instructions for today's potion. She wasn't particularly good at Potions but she managed to get by with a strong E most of the time.
Silently she poured two gallons of clean water into her cauldron and brought it's temperature up to the requested heat. She watched as it routinely began to boil and added 10 dried nettles into the same cauldron.
She began to crush the snake fangs with a grimance, she didn't like snakes. And their fangs were no more attractive than the real thing. After a bit they had been ground into a powder which she also dumped into the cauldron.
Slowly, the potion turned a mily white color--it was a bit on the pale side but then she never was the Potions pro. None the less, the color was acceptable and she added 5 stewed horn slugs. After stirring all the ingredients in she took it off the heat and waited for it to cool.
Finally having a moment to glance around she saw some of her Hufflepuff friends having quite the trouble with the potion. One she recognized as Alexander had actually added 10 ground snake fangs instead of 5, and 5 dried nettles instead of 10 resulting in the now overflowment of his cauldron. Once she had noted it was cool, she added the porcupine quills.
The potion should be a light green color and very smooth, and glancing down at her cauldron she was pleased to say that this potion was one of the closest she had come to doing almost completely down to the tee--resulting in a nice lighter green color only a bit on the dark side.

As two other students came in the class and began to work, Daf pulled the scales out of the cauldron where he had stored them and put them on the table.
Pulling a piece of parchment, and writing utensils out of his bag he wrote down the instructions carefully off the board.
Wound Sealing Potion: 1. 4. Take the cauldron off the fire and wait for 1 minute for it to cool and add porcupine quills. 5. The potion should be a light green color, very smooth.
Taking his wand out of his pocket, Daf said a quick spell to put water 2 gallons of water into his cauldron."Incendio"Daf waited as the water heated up to 100 C. A couple minutes later, Daf pulled out 10 nettles from his bag, and as the water began to boil, he crushed the nettles, along with 5 snake fangs into a fine powder as the instructions said.
Wiping them into his hand off the table, Daf dropped the fine powder into the boiling water.
As the potion turned into a white-ish colour, Daf looked around the room. More students had arrived, and some appeared to be having trouble with their potion.
As Daf placed 5 stewed horn slugs into the cauldron, the water began to bubble slightly over the edge. Realizing he had forgot to remove his wand from under the cauldron, he quickly removes it and said the counter-spell.d**n it. I cant believe I forgot about the fire.
Daf looked at his watch as he waited for a minute before adding 3 porcupine quills, as it didn't actually say how many to add.
Inspecting his potion, Daf realized his potion was the right colour, yet slightly bumpy.
"Well, I hope this is good enough" he said, to no one in particular.

Elizabeth walked into the dark and cold potions classroom. It was a warm day outside and the atmosphere of the potions room was perfect. She sat in one of the cold wooden chairs and pulled out her parchment paper. She neatly began to write down the directions on the board for the Wound Sealing Potion. When she was finished she opened her potions book to page 437 and began to take notes on the potion.
When she completed her notes Elizabeth added 2 gallons of clean water and waited for her water to boil. As she waited she grabbed the snake fangs from the wooden shelf and took five. She soon began to crush them with a large stone grinding piece and bowl. She finished as soon as they were a fine powder and looked over to her now boiling cauldron.
Elizabeth reached back to the wooden shelf and grabbed the container of nettles. She took out ten and tossed them into the cauldron along with her ground snake fangs. She waited patiently for the potion to change color.

Ali liked potions if not the teacher. It was fun being able to heal or change someone just by having them drink something. Ali walked down the hall to the class room. She hated it down in the dungeons to but I guess that was just because it smelled wierd. Ali walked into the class she was on time this is the second time this week yes even though it was only tuesday. She headed for the back of the class not just to get away from the teacher but to also get away from the class, the last time she had messed up the slytherins had made fun of her for weeks even though they mess up all the time. But there was already someone back there. So in stead of sitting at her normal, which was in the middle of the row, where the girl was, she sat 6 seats away. Aliright then lets get started. Ali pored 2 cups of water into her cauldron and brought it to 100 degrees C. "This potion is pretty easy so far" she said more to herself than anyone. "Shi...oot" she had forgotten to refill her ingredients kit after the last class she didnt have any enough snake fangs.

Severus was inspecting some homework from the previous night when he heard someone mutter a curse. He looked up and saw a Hufflepuff third year obviously short in ingredients. As he approached Ms. William's cauldron, Snape was astonished to see very little water in the cauldron. Clearing his throat, Severus sneered, "Are you blind? Do you think that two cups of water will suffice for your potion and do you think that I tolerate people unprepared for class? If you had proceeded with this amount of water, your potion would have been disastrous. I will have to take ten points from Hufflepuff for reading my instructions wrong, and ten for being unprepared for class." Snape turned to the next person in line; Mr. Isaac,"Your potion has excellent coloration, however, I would heat it up a bit more to make its consistency less chunky. Nevertheless your potion would be an excellent wound-sealing potion. Ten points for Ravenclaw." Snape turned to a Hufflepuff third year by the name of Ms. Crowley,"Are you blind, too? Do my instructions not clearly state that your potion should have a light green coloration? Five more points from Hufflepuff for your lack of carefulness."
Severus wrote down the scores for the people he had seen so far and moved on to an older Hufflepuff. "What is this supposed to be?" Snape sneered as he looked into Ms. Lehane's Cauldron. "May I remind you that you will never get into my N.E.W.T.s class if you continue to forget that I want perfection in your potions. This -he ladeled up some of her potion- is not clear like water is. That will be another five points from Hufflepuff."

Inge took her usual seat in the third row, close enough to the blackboard to be able to see the instructions well but far enough away from the potions master that he wouldn’t be breathing down her neck whiles she fixed her potion. Professor Snape made her nervous and, she admitted it, he even scared her a bit sometimes. In any case he took her concentration away from her potion, something she couldn’t allow if she wanted it to turn out well. And that she did. She’d never lost Ravenclaw any points before, though she hadn’t exactly earned a large amount either, and she didn’t intend to start now. In her last year before the Owl course began, she wanted to make a good impression.
The professor didn’t waste any time with introductions, as always, and set them right to brewing their potions, making his rounds as they did so. She carefully placed her cauldron over the fire and measured out two gallons of water, carefully pouring them into the cauldron. Unlike other students her age, she was not especially clumsy and there was no threat of her knocking over her cauldron or spilling the water. Maybe it was because she’d been taught from an early age how to sit still, or because she just wasn’t one of those bubbly people that were in constant movement.
She lit the fire and while she waited for the water to reach the boiling point, she opened her ingredients kit and took out all the ingredients she would need. Ten dried nettles were counted and put in a small pile on her desk. Five snake fangs were set aside as well, ready to be crushed once the potion was boiling. She looked at her jar of stewed horn slugs with slight disgust and decided that it would be better if she wore her gloves while adding those. While she wasn’t exactly scared of touching nasty animals, she definitely wasn’t going to do it unless it was absolutely necessary. She looked up at the board one more time to make sure she hadn’t missed anything. Oh yeah, the porcupine quills. She took those out as well and looked around at what the other students were doing while she waited for the water to begin to boil.
The Hufflepuffs seemed to be losing points faster than they could brew their potions, but Inge refrained from showing any kind of reaction to it. She didn’t want to seem mean or lose points herself for gloating. Besides, her water was starting to boil now so she had more important things to do. She quickly added her nettles to the cauldron and began to thoroughly crush her fangs. She hoped that she wasn’t taking too long because it took her a few minutes before they had turned into a fine powder, but to her relief when she added the powder the potion slowly turned a milky white. Success! So far, at least. She put on her gloves and pulled five slugs from her jar, slipping them into the potion, then discarding the gloves to have them washed later.
Waving her wand at the cauldron, she lifted it off the fire so that it could cool off. Just the porcupine quills left now. She watched the seconds tick away on her watch and after exactly one minute had passed, she added the quills. Stirring gently so that they could dissolve, she watched the colour go a nice pastel green. She hoped that that was what the professor had meant with light green. There were a lot of colours that would fit that description.

Ali was so embarrased. She had lost 40 points for Hufflepuff in one day this was a above all high for her. She looked back to her cauldron. How could she have made the stupid mistake of not adding enough water. She emptied out her cauldron and began again this time adding 2 gallons of clean water. Although this time she added enough water she still didnt have ingredient. She look over to the other girl in the back row, she slowly inched over to the girl making sure Snape didnt see her. "Pst" can I borrow 5 snake fangs. The girl handed them to her. Luckily the other girl had also been in Hufflepuff or she didnt know if she would have. Ali moved back to her cauldron and started to bring her cauldron to 100 degrees C. Then she began to crush her 5 snake fangs to a fine powder.

Jordan's mouth dropped as Snape deducted 40 points from Hufflepuff, then 10 more, then deducted another 10 from her because her potion wasn't 'clear enough.' Jordan scoffed at this. 60 points from Hufflepuff in ONE class period. And the class period had just begun. What was it with this guy, and what did he have against Hufflepuff? She closed her eyes before swishing her wand and muttering, "Evanesco." She would do this again- and get it right. If she had another ten points deducted from Hufflepuff, she was going to make a complaint to Dumbledore. Snape's deductions had gone too far, she understood that he didn't like Hufflepuff- but that still didn't give him a right to favourite Slytherin and Ravenclaw; which points were hardly deducted from. Even if the headmaster wouldn't do much- she needed her voice to be heard, 60 points in ten minutes was just not even close to being right.
She refilled her cauldron and repeated the steps. When she was finished with this batch she looked at it. Certain it was clear. She smiled lazily and raised her hand- "Excuse me, Professor. Is this clear to your standards, or should I just make this disappear and try again?" She asked in the sweetest voice possible, though in her mind she was still outraged.

Elizabeth only had to wait a few moments before the potion inside her cauldron turned a milky white color. She reached towards the wooden shelf and grabbed the container of stewed horn slugs and carefully picked out the 5 that looked best to her. She carefully placed the slugs into the cauldron and then grabbed the cauldron handles to move it off the fire. She looked at the clock and noted the time before pulling out the container of porcupine quills and picking out the 5 longest. After the minute was up Elizabeth looked at her cauldron and noticed that it had cooled quite a bit. She picked up the quills one by one, being careful not to poke herself, and placed them into the potion. Shortly after the potion changed from the milky white to a very light green, a perfectly smooth texture about it. She smiled proudly, realizing she had finished correctly. She pulled out her parchment to take more notes on the potion while waiting for Snape's approval.

Severus continued grading homework assignments until it was about ten minutes until the end of class. He strode towards several cauldrons, making comments to its owners then turned to Ms. Ahlqvist, "Good potion although it could be a bit smoother. Ten points for Ravenclaw.-Then he turned to Ms. Lehane, who had insisted on redoing her potion.-I see you have fixed the problem. Ten points to Hufflepuff.-The last person was Ms. Rain-Good, good. Another Ten points to Ravenclaw.-Severus turned to the class-For all of you who are not finished with your potions, you will either finish it after class or redo it for homework. The homework will be to write an essay about the various uses of the potions you have just concocted. It is to be handed in a week from today and must be at least three pages worth of parchment."
((There will actually not be any homework.))
