Skipping rocks. (Jessica)

Thomas was sitting in potions class wishing there was a window but that wouldn't make it seem like a dungeon then if it had a window, He thought to himself. Pretty soon class was over and with all the classes he had over with Thomas made his way to get out of the castle. He had some class work to do but he didn't feel like doing it just then he would rather be outside in the sun. Thomas made it to the exit of the castle and looked around it seemed to be a nice day not much clouds so he headed out for the lake. No one was around the lake when he got there and the lake seemed surprising calm. Not even any splashing from the giant squid which he thought was odd. Thomas walked over to the edge of the lake and sat down. He lied back and looked up at the sky, he wished it was cloudier he liked it when the clouds covered the sun but that didn't seemed to be happening anytime soon.

Thomas had his hand on the ground and felt a flat rock and picked it up and looked at it. He then got up and threw it so it skipped on the lake but it only made it two hops till it shank. He then looked down and there was some more rocks so he kept skipping them, this one made it four. "Looks like I'm getting better that this." He said laughing as he talked to himself. He skipped another one and this time it only hopped once. "Or not." He said to himself. He looked over he's shoulder and he could see the figure of someone coming but he still kept skipping rocks, this time it went five times. Thomas looked around for another rock but he could find any. He kept looking and found a few more a few feet away when he got up the figure he saw before was very close to him.

Giggling slightly Jessica picked up her little black and white kitten Smokey and said aloud "Fine you can come with me but you have to stay by me this time ok?" Walking out of her common room her dangling earrings that changed colors with her mood were currently bright red (happy) with her little kitten at her heels Jessica started towards the familiar path of going onto the grounds. She had just finished her classes and couldn't wait to get outside for some fresh air. She would most likely go to her favorite tree by the lake and think of song lyrics or practice the ones she had already wrote. Half running half skipping Jessica Tried desperately to keep up with her hyper little kitten who was running around waiting for her to catch up then taking off again. Smokey loved going outside and playing by the lakes the only problem was trying to keep her out of the water.

Walking outside into the cool crisp air she noticed that it wasn't very windy today. Looking up into the bright blue sky she saw that there were big fluffy looking clouds in the sky smiling to herself she remembered how when she was little she would lay down on the grass and look at the sky imagining what shape they looked like. She used to spend hours of doing this with some friends. The one thing she remembered was that they all did see the same figure actually it was very rare if they did. She used to be able to tell what type of mood her friends were in by what shape they said they saw in a certain cloud like if one of her friends said they saw a clown she would think they were happy or if they said they saw a person sitting down sad she would think something was bothering them.

Watching causally as she saw someone ahead and her kitten dart towards them she prayed it wasn't a Slytherin. She watched as this person picked up something in there hand and throw it into the lake then realizing it was a stone as she came closer she smiled. This person was skipping rocks, she loved to do this even though she hadn't done it in a long time she remembered that she wasn't the best at it the most a rock had ever skipped was three times. She would get so flustered that she would usually quit. She really wasn't a quitter she just kind of gave up. "Hi I'm Jessica" she said to the boy that was now in front of her. Watching as her little kitten walked over to the lake she hoped she wouldn't jump in. Looking back at the boy Jessica waited for the boy to introduce himself.

As he picked up a few more rocks that seemed to have the right shape to be skipped which was flat. He got up and the figure he saw before now was a girl standing next to him. Thomas smiled and was about to offer her a rock when she started to introduce herself. "Hmm Jessica... nope never met her before." He thought to himself for a second. He smiled knowing it was his turn to introduce himself. "I'm Thomas, Nice to meet you." He said smiling as always holding onto the few rocks he picked up off the ground. When he looked over to the lake he saw a kitten that wasn't there before. "Must be her kitten." He thought as he threw another rock making sure not to hit the kitten or Jessica when he moved his hand back.

The rock skipped three times before sinking with a sort of bopping sound. He then looked over at Jessica and opened his hand that was filled with rocks in front of her. "You want to join me, It's fun when you don't have anything better to do." Thomas said laughing. "Nothing better to explains me very well." Thomas thought. He knew he had to stop that, he talked to himself out loud or in his head more then he did in the actual conversation.

"Yup, She is my kitten and a very naughty one at that" she said as her little kitten got ready to jump in the water. Why does she always have to go in the water Jessica desperately thought to herself? Shaking her head slightly she looked back at the boy named Thomas and tried racking her brain. Have I ever seen him before? She had seen him around a few times but the had never met. She watched as he skipped a rock and suddenly heard a splash. Groaning slightly she looked over to were her kitten was and saw she had of course jumped in the water. "Sure" Jessica responded to the boy's question. Taking a flat smooth rock out of the boys held out had and threw it. Watching as it skipped three times Jessica couldn't help but giggle as her kitten practically dove for it.

Looking over at the boy once again Jessica asked "Do you have any pets?" Tucking a piece of her brown hair behind her ear she took another rock and skipped it across the water making sure she didn't hit her kitten. Looking back at the boy Jessica politely waited for an answer.

(Sorry it is so short I couldn't think of anything else to do without god moading )

Thomas just laughed as the kitten tried to go after the rock Jessica threw. "Well she doesn't seem that naughty." He said laughing as he threw another rock in a different way so even if the rock didn't go straight it wouldn't come close to the kitten. The rock made it one skip then sunk. "Well I guess that wasn't a very smooth rock." He said smiling trying to laugh off how bad that throw was. He heard her ask if he had any pets and he smiled. "Well I got a green frog most days." He said smiling knowing how odd that must have sounded." He threw another rock as he kept talking. "I Change it's color so many times its hard to remember what it was to begin with." He said watch the rock this time it skipped four times.

He smiled feeling better about that throw and was going to throw another one but there was only one left in his hand so he decides to leave it for Jessica throw. "But the frog is more loyal then a dog. It runs away when I change it's colors but it always ends up in my trunk at the end of the day." He said laughing, he said watching it still in the water a little surprised. "I've never seen a kitten like water before, so what’s her name?"

"Oh, that sounds cool. What colors have you changed him?" Jessica asked Thomas not even noticing her earrings change color (blue meaning interested). She once again watched her little kitten dive for another rock that had been thrown. She watched as her kitten swam a little further and walked over to the side of the lake and called "Smokey don't go out so far!". She realized how strange she must sound right now but didn't really care. "You now I have seen many cats before I bought her and they also all hated water but I can't keep Smokey out of it, maybe it was that store I bought it in at Diagon Ally". Jessica looked up into the sky and saw that most of the clouds were gone and the sun was a little higher in the sky then when she came out here.

Looking back at Thomas Jessica said "Oh, her name is Smokey it is kind of weird how she got the name actually. My Aunt had burned a piece of toast and the room was all Smokey. She called to me and said not to come down because the room was all Smokey and my little kitten here came running ever since she has answered to nothing else."
"What is your frog's name?" Jessica continued she new she was talking a lot and hoped the person didn't mind she was just in a talkative mood today

Thomas laughed he could tell she was interested most people just thought it was odd to change a frog so many colors. "Well I've done all the colors I could think of. Once I got him two colors at once, I just can’t remember how I did it." He said smiling seeming a little embarrassed about forgetting it. "Made him even glow once but that only lasted for about a minute." He said seeming proud about it now. "But the only color that I could tell that made him made him mad was pink." laughed. "It’s the one time I couldn't find him for days." He looked over to the kitten as he talked she had just warned it not to go out to far. "I don’t think the giant squid likes kittens... but I would know for sure." He thought to himself hoping nothing would happen to the kitten.

He laughed when she talked about the kitten’s name. "Yes, it is kind of strange but that lest it’s unique." He said smiling. "I just named him Frogger and he seemed to like it. I named him off of those old Muggle games." He looked back at the kitten and she seemed to be listening it wasn't out to far. he still couldn't get over the fact of a kitten that loved water it just seemed impossible to him but he guessed nothing is impossible in the magic world. He hoped the kitten wouldn't go far he didn't feel like going swimming he thought to himself but he would if he had to. Thomas started to think about what his frog was doing, he guess he was probably asleep in his trunk. "So how far was the farthest rock you skipped?"

Jessica laughed when Thomas explained what colors he turned his frog and could just see a little pink frog jumping around. "I used to play that game all the time when I was younger I loved it. I never beat it though I always ended up hit by a car in the last level." Jessica said when he mentioned that his frogs name was Frogger. She had never met anyone that had turned there bet different colors but she had heard of spells. She would never turn her kitten a different color but she had nothing against it. It wasn't like it was hurting the animal unless you count hurting the animals pride but she didn't think most of the animals minded. Most likely most of them didn't even notice. She turned her attention back to her kitten as she watched her come back onto land. Jessica giggled as she watched her little kitten run over to the boy and rub against him.

Noticing that her kitten was still wet she said "Oh, I am sorry she seems to like you at least". Hoping the boy didn't mind Jessica instantly called her kitten and pulled out her wand. Drying off her kitten she said again "I bet you in five minuets she will be back in the water." She new her kitten would be this was part of there daily routine. Go to the lake swim in the lake for a little come back dry off and then five minuets later jump back in. Looking back at the boy she said "well actually the farthest I have ever skipped a rock is three times" blushing slightly she continued "I haven't skipped rocks in a long time but when I was little I wasn't very good

He smiled when she talked about the game not many magic folk knew about the outside world but you never know she could have been from a Muggle family like him. The kitten came back and started to rub on his leg he guessed to get dry or just to get his attention. Jessica called the kitten to her and dried her with a spell. As soon as the kitten was dry he bend down and starts to pet her. He kept petting her as he started to talk." Don't be sorry how could anyone be mad at such a cute thing like this. I Just hope I don't look like a scratching post to her." He said laughing still petting her, the kitten seemed to like it, it was purring.

Thomas then got up and the let kitten do whatever it wanted to do and he listened to her talk about skipping rocks. Thomas looked around on the ground then felt dumb as soon as he remembered the last one he had in his hand. "Well here throw this one.” He said looking at the rock in his hand. "I bet you can make it past three this time." He said smiling handing it over to her.

Jessica laughed and said to Thomas "I don’t think she will think you are her scratching post, I now it is hard to be mad at her she is just too cute" She was actually quite surprised. Her kitten usually was shy and took a while to warm up to people. The only other person she had seen her act like this to was her old muggle friend Sarah. She usually wouldn't even come out from underneath her bed if someone was over. Lately though she had noticed that her little kitten was becoming more and more daring. Which she was actually happy of because she can go places with her without worrying that she will run away because someone is coming. Pushing a piece of her long brown hair out of her eyes she looked down at the lake and saw how pretty it looked when the sun reflected off of it.

Looking back at Thomas she said " I guess there is no harm in trying right?" Taking the rock out of his outstretched Jessica pulled back her arm and threw the rock. Watching it hop over she counted in her head one, two, three.., four. Smiling slightly she silently in her head did a little victory dance.

Thomas just smiled as she picked up the rock from his hand then threw it. It watched as it hopped a crossed the surface of the lake. He kept hoping he was right that he would pass three skips and so far he seemed to be right it looked like it would pass three but after the third hop he knew it would make it to four but then it sank. He looked over at her smiling and could see she was smiling also. "See I told you, you could do it didn't I?" He said laughing a little. He bent down and start to pet the kitten again. He started to become jealous of her having a kitten, He wouldn't trade his frog for anything but still frogs aren't as cute as a kitten or puppy.

"I wish a frog could be as cute as a kitten." He said laughing still petting the kitten, seeing another smooth rock on the ground, he picked it up. He got up and moved his arm back and threw it at the lake, it hopped three times before sinking. "I guess your better at this then me.” He said smiling looking out to the lake.

Laughing slightly Jessica said looking at Thomas "No, I don’t think I am better then you yet, but watch out I might have a lot of spare time on my hands this week" Looking down at her little kitten as she let out a little mew. Giggling slightly she bent down and picked her up. Holding Smokey Jessica turned to the lake slightly and thought about the time that her mom had brought her to a lake to go swimming and she was about six. She was too scared to go in the lake; she thought that a giant shark was going to eat her. Her mom insisted that there was no shark in the water and said that they live in salt water not fresh water but I was little and stubborn so she kept to her thoughts.

Turning back to the boy named to Thomas she said "Actually I have only seen her act this friendly to others once, and it was an old friend that I had met before I learned I was a witch." She bent down and let her kitten go and run around after she started to squirm. She watched her with her eyes as she ran to the lake. Knowing exactly what was going to happen she shook her head slightly as she heard the splash.

Thomas smiled when she said she was going to have a lot of spare wishing he was going to have some of that. "Lucky, I still got makeup word to do I'm just too lazy to keep doing it right now." He said laughing as she picked up her kitten and pet her. Thomas still kept wishing a frog could be as cute as a kitten. "I wonder if there’s a spell for that?" He thought asking himself. But he just laughed thinking about a furry frog. Thomas smiled as she explained that her kitten was only this nice to one other person then he laughed. "Well I guess that means I'm special." He said laughing then added. "Or I just smile like cat nip some how."

He said laughing watching her put down Smokey and the kitten ran to the lake pretty soon there was a splash. He looked over and saw Jessica nodding her head and Thomas laughed. "Well at lest you don't have to worry about being scratched when giving her a bath.” He said looking back at the kitten as she kept splashing.

Smiling slightly as Thomas mentioned that he had a lot of homework and he thought she was lucky. Little did he now that just two weeks ago she had a lot of homework to make up. Now she makes sure she does it the night it is assigned so she has free time to do whatever pleases her. She had fallen so behind that it took her the whole week to catch up and that was with her in the library the whole day without doing anything but coming out for meals. She had realized that this new way of doing her homework actually worked. Her grades were improving of course and she had a lot of time that she could spend.

"That is true but trying to get her out of the bath is the problem, every time I bring her out then go to grab my wand on the counter she jumps back in." This was true; her kitten was just like a fish. She couldn't go four hours without being in the water once. If she did she would go crazy and make you take her out to the lake. Even though she was a little kitten she new how to get her way. Smiling slightly at this thought Jessica turned to the boy named Thomas and asked "So.. what do you like to do for fun?"

Thomas smiled still watching the kitten play in the water, he started to laugh, it was so funny to him to see a kitten splashing in water. He looked back over to Jessica when she started to talk and he listened. "Well I guess I'm kind of lucky, you don’t really need to give a frog a bath unless his been hoping around in mud or something like that." He said thinking about the one time his frog came back covered in mud and most of the stuff in his trunk was covered in mud. He just laughed to himself thinking for a second. Then Jessica soon asked him what he did for fun and Thomas thought for a second.

"Well besides changing frogs different colors and skipping rocks." He said smiling looking over at the kitten for a quick second then back at Jessica. "Well sometimes I just read old spell books in the library and see if I can learn anything new." Thomas thought for a second again. "Also every now and then I visit the room of requirements but I haven't been there in over a month." He said thinking about the last time he had been there. "So what about you, what do you do for fun?"

Giggling slightly as Thomas mentioned that he was lucky that the only time he would have to give his frog a bath was if he was rolling in mud. For some odd reason this seemed to be funny she could just picture a pink frog jumping around in some mud. "Well I sometimes write songs, and I also love to read old spell books. I love to learn new spells and am always up for someone to teach me one.

She looked out to see were her kitten was to make sure she wasn't going out too far and saw that she was close to the bank but something seemed wrong. She wasn't swimming around she was lying down and she didn't seem her normal self. Quickly looking at Thomas she said in a rushed voice "Hold on" Running over to the bank she didn't care if she got wet. She hurriedly walked over to her kitten and picked her up. She saw something very strange. Her kitten's leg had a cut on it.

She walked briskly out of the water and sat down gently setting down her kitten she pulled out her wand she did the drying spell so she could see were the cut was exactly. This was the first time she had ever seen her actually hurt and she was kind of scared. She didn't have a clue what could have cut her precious little kitten but she wasn't worried about that right now. Looking up at Thomas she said "Do you now how to heal cuts?" Looking desperately at him she waited for him to answer.

Thomas just smiled when she said she liked to read old spell books. That had been something he always liked to do in his spare time but even more lately because of being gone for so long from Hogwarts on the count having returning home to be with his mom. Thomas thought he had to get caught up because of not using any magic for a long period of time. Thomas was about to say he had a few old books if she wanted to look at them but her attention seemed to be turned to the lake. He started to look to the lake to but just saw her kitten but she must have thought something was wrong because she told him to hold on. Then she ran over to the lake and something seemed wrong so he started to walk over to.

She met him half way holding her kitten and it seemed to be hurt, he could see a cut on her leg. Jessica pulled out her wand and dried her kitten off then looked at him and asked if he knew any healing spells, he could tell she was worried and he was too. He thought for a second then remembered there was one he saw in a book he had in his trunk. He pulled out his wand from his back pocket and pointed at the kitten. He remembered the words and thought for a second again. He muttered the words for the spell and soon the wound seemed to heal and the skin to knit back together. Thomas was so glad it worked, He knew it would but there was always that voice in the back of his head saying something might go wrong.

"Ok that should do it." He said smiling petting the kitten hoping she was ok. "I would still visit Madam Pomfrey and make sure nothing is wrong." He said starting to think. ” I wonder is she does kittens or just humans." He thought to himself.

Watching relived when he pulled out his wand and said the healing spell it took everything she had not to run and give him a huge. Racking her brain for anything that could have cut her kitten she looked back at Thomas and said "what could have cut her?" She couldn't think of a single thing that could have cut her kitten and hoped that he might now. Looking at her kitten she picked her up and cuddled her. She new that if she didn't find out what had cut Smokey that she couldn’t let her swim in the lake again. Even if she did find out what had cut her she might not let her swim in there any more. She looked at her kitten's leg again and saw a little bit of dried blood.


Thinking out loud she said "I guess I will have to give her a bath also and thank you so much I kind of freaked when I saw her leg" blushing slightly at how she had totally lost it when she saw her kittens leg she hoped this person didn't think she was a total loser.

(So, so sorry about the long wait and the shortness writers block is coming back again.)

He just smiled after he saw the look on her face then she asked what could have cut her kitten and Thomas tried to think of anything in the lake that could. "I'm not sure, maybe one of the animals.” He said still thinking. "But I doubt it probably some student left something sharp in there." He said thinking at that probably the case. He didn't know if any of the fish were sharp in anyway it was possible be still he doubted it. "I'll help you look around the lake if you want me too." He asked looking at her kitten and ten started petting her. "Yea, she'll probably like a bath when you get back to the castle and don't worry about it I'm just glad I knew the right spell to help."

He stopped petting the kitten and looked out to the lake still trying to think of what might have cut the kitten. "She might even enjoy the bath more now." He said smiling looking out to the lake.

Watching as a few little waves hit a couple of rocks on the east side of the lake Jessica heard Thomas say "I'll help you look around the lake if you want me too." "Would you" Jessica replied. If she was going to ever let her kitten swim in the lake again she was going to have to find out what cut her first. Shaking her brown hair out of her eyes Jessica couldn't help but think about what could have happened if she would have been cit some were else. Why was she always the one to burst some one bubble or be the one to look on the bad sides of things?

Looking back at Thomas she let a small smile cross her lips as he said "She might even enjoy the bath more now" "I bet she will too" Jessica replied. Picking up her little kitten who was once again running or trying to run over to the lake. Shaking her head she said "Don't you ever get tired of the lake?" As if in response her kitten looked at her with her big blue eyes and let out a small meow.
