She was afraid. Bridget was so afraid, that when she ran outside, she tripped and fell. Bee lay there, crying quietly. Her brother, Perry, was in the hospital, and he probably wouldn't make it. She was afraid for him, but she was also afraid for herself. What would happen if Perry wasn't there at her house for the summer? What would her dad do to Bee? All these questions were unanswerable. She couldn't help but think of the possible answers. She got up and swiftly shook off her clothes. She wanted to get away and talk to someone at the same time. How could she do that? She started walking towards the lake, but then changed her mind. Bee decided to walk to the forest instead. The sun was setting, so it made the trees cast long shadows across the grounds. She wanted to talk to someone. Even a Slytherin would be nice, they could take her mind off her family. She saw a stump near the forest and she sat down on it, wondering what she should do.

Melody rubbed her flint against the twig. She struck it quite a few times, perhaps about ten, and then it started to glow. Blowing on it gently, allowing smoke to rise off it, she struck it again. This time it did more than glow. At the top a small flame began to grow. Melody held it up against the fading light, knowing regretfully that she would have to go inside soon. Students had to be inside by nightfall, and although Melody didn't have perhaps the greatest regard for rules of absolutely all people, she was careful to observe them and not get into trouble. But the sun hadn't set yet, and there was still an amount of light. Not as much light as they got in the middle of the day, the late April sun getting hot now, but nevertheless enough. Still, the flame was easily visible against the darkening sky, standing out a little like a beacon. Melody smiled in satisfaction and puffed it out, dropping the stick, which was blackened at the end now, and pocketing her flint, still warm.
Melody was not far away from the Forest by now. She had been wandering out here for at least an hour, just enjoying the fact that they got sunshine into the evening now. She drew her jacket a little closer around her. It was still only late spring, and the evenings were cooler. She heard the sound of someone else sitting down rather heavily nearby, and followed it curiously. Some company might be nice, perhaps. She hadn't talked to anyone for a few hours, after all. Melody soon came across the source of the noise. A girl, who didn't look much older than her, was sitting on a low down tree stump, looking rather morose. Melody looked at her for a few seconds before leaning against a tree, glad the girl was not actually in the Forest. She was not going in the Forest, especially not when it was going dark. She knew well enough there were bad things in there. That must be why they had been told to stay out of it. "Penny fer 'em," she said quietly, watching the girl as she did so. She didn't like to see people unhappy, and the best thing to do was to cheer them up as best as possible but first of all give them a chance to talk things over.

Bee was so upset she didn't notice someone was near by. She looked up at a girl who seemed to be a little younger than her. She tried to smile, but her smiling muscles wouldn't move so instead, it looked like a grimace. She turned her head and looked out at the horizon. The sun was setting and soon there would be no light. There was perhaps about maybe and hour or two of light. The girl spoke to her and Bee was surprised to hear her accent. She had heard that accent bafore, but right now, she couldn't quite place it. A breeze blew across the grounds, making Bee draw her jacket closer around her.
She looked at the girl again, trying to say something. Finally, she looked at the grass and took a deep breath. Maybe it would make her feel better. She looked back up at the girl. "Hi. I...um...sorry you had to see me like this. It's just that....I.....I just got a letter from my dad. My brother got in a football accident, and now he is in the hospital. We.....I.....Don't think...He is going to......live....." She couldn't talk much anymore. Her voice sounded choked with tears, and nothing intelligable was coming out of her mouth. She glanced at the girl and then put her head in her hand. She wasn't crying, it just felt good to be in this position. She decided she would wait for the girl to talk to her again. She wasn't sure she could say anything else at the moment.

The girl was saying something about her brother being in a critical condition. And by the sounds of it, not stable either. Melody watched her for about a quarter of a minute, for once not thinking it prudent to say much. Melody herself was very lucky, and she thought of what would happen if anything happened to her mum or dad. Considering that she didn't have any siblings, Melody wasn't sure how it would feel to be worried about losing one. She got on alright without one, but to have had and then lost... surely that was worse than never having known what it was you had lost? Certainly after having lost it? The girl sounded as though she was really upset about it, but Melody kept her distance. She didn't even know this girl, so she couldn't exactly offer a comforting arm.
"No call ter apologise," Melody told the girl. "If yer upset yer upset, and 'ave every right ter be too." She paused for a while. She didn't know what she should say. She didn't have any experience of this sort of situation. "'Ave yer been ter see 'im, yer brother that is?" she asked. She looked at the girl hesitantly, who still had her face in her hands, wondering if her brother might be in a coma or something. "Yer see, even if 'e canna talk ter yer, it might be good ter go and see 'im again." She sincerely hoped it was helpful that she'd said that, at any rate that it wasn't unhelpful. Because what if it had been the wrong thing to say? This girl looked confused and unhappy. Melody shouldn't be making things worse for her! She watched the girl anxiously, waiting for some sort of reply. If any was forthcoming.

Bee listened to the girl. She felt a little better, but she wasn't sure on the idea about going to see her brother. She wanted to, but she didn't want to see her father. What should I do? Bee thought miserably. She knew how uncomfortable this girl must be, so she looked up and tried to pull herself together.
"Thanks a lot. I think I might just go to see him some day soon." She looked at the girl, trying to remember if she had ever seen her before. She thought that she had seen her in the corridors a couple of times, but she didn't know her name.
"Sorry, what's your name? I don't think we have ever met properly before. " She forced a smile onto her face and pulled her coat closer around her.
