Ivy walked along the edge of the lake, trailing one hand along the weed flowers that were covered with light frost. The weather was not quite as bitter as it had been at one stage, and much of the snow had thawed, leaving Hogwarts at the stage where the ground was sodden with slush. Ivy looked down at her shoes, darkened where they were wet. They would dry off, just as the snow would come again when the weather turned in a few days' time. She sighed. It had been a long time since she had last been along the edge of this lake. The last time had been when she had met Katie through the cruel act of a few Slytherin second years. Ivy had had her own encounter with a group of cruel, older Slytherins since then. She hadn't seen Katie for ages. She understood that things had turned cold between her and Jordan. Ivy wished she could talk to Katie. She always seemed to be quiet and brooding, and Ivy had not found the right moment to talk to her. She bore her own pain inside, and it made her reluctant to... well, re-establish the friendship, really. It just seemed too complicated. And now Katie had gone.
Ivy looked at the ground, her face slightly twisted with her unhappy thoughts, although she was not aware of it. The ground was still hard underfoot, underneath the slush. Ivy stamped her foot lightly, sending icy water a few centimetres into the air. She regarded it quietly. Things were very complicated, or maybe it was just that they seemed that way. Maybe it was a mixture of both. Sometimes nature seemed very complicated, sometimes it seemed very simple, but really it was a mixture of both. Maybe that just made it complicated. Certainly too complicated for Ivy to be bothered thinking about at the moment. Ivy looked behind her as she heard someone approaching. They were at too far a distance at the moment to see who they were, but they looked to be a girl who was older than her. What would an older girl want with her? Was it one of the Slytherins coming back to get her again? Had Ivy somehow given away who they were? She wasn't even aware herself who she was. Ivy put her cold hands in her pockets and increased the speed she was walking at, frantically trying to think of some way to defend herself. She had to get away from them, back to the castle! No one would find her out here, not for ages. No one would miss her for a long time, either.
