Pyro sat in the great hall eating breakfest. Suddenly the air was filled with the sound of wings and the Hooing of owls, signifying mail call. he wasnt expecting a letter, no one would want to write to him. So it surprised him when a letter bounced off his head and landed in front of him. he picked it up and examined it. "dad?" he mouthed with a full mouth of cereal. he read the first part of the letter. "jeesh dad, couldnt of just sent a howler? would have been easier." he thought to himself. than he reached the second part and it became all to clear why it was a formal letter. his eyes went wide with shock as he reread the letter to make sure that he had read it correctly. Dad wouldnt go that far would he? Pyro and his dad had never gotten along with each other, ever. But would his dad really go this far.? pyro was in denial for about two seconds. he could feel the hate and rage boil up inside his stomach. the scream threatened to erupt from his lips at any moment. Ofcourse the old crapgeezer would do something like this. Pyro pushed back from the table angrilly, nearly tipping over the bench in the process, He grabed the letter and crumpled it up and went to put it into his robe pocket but missed. The letter fell to the ground. pyro didnt seem to notice. He began to walk toward the Great hall doors, eyes burning with hatred and body twitching as if he was about to explode. Pyro exited the great hall and went into the courtyard. once out of the castle and away from the ears of other students still eating breakfest he let out a scream of rage. "AAAHHHH!!!!!" he screamed out in rage as he whirled around an punched the solid rock wall beside him. There was a definit cracking sound, from his hand. The wall was un-hurt. He stood there, hand still extended against the wall.. body quivering. he muttered quietly. "Ill get him, Ill kill him.." over and over again. ((contents of letter can be found here: hogwarts4houses.proboards26.com/index.cgi?board=Owlery&action=display&thread=1110256455 )

“BUZZ” went the alarm clock on the silver nightstand at seven fifteen in the morning. Mary reached over to press snooze when she realised she had done that three times already so she had to get up. She got ready for her day in a daze finishing by placing her schoolbooks in her bag and grabbing a light cloak. Glancing at the clock yet again she saw there was five minutes left for breakfast and rushed up the five flights of stairs to the entrance hall.
Just as she was about to step up the last stair though she saw Pyro rushing out the front doors in a very odd way. Not thinking Mary rushed after him. The door swung closed practically right in her face and she pushed it open yet again and shivered at the sudden gust of cold. Considering she was only wearing a light cloak Mary considered going back in and checking on Pyro later when she heard a scream; looking in that general direction she saw him punch the wall and apparently hurt himself.
All thought of turning back now abandoned Mary ran out after Pyro and placed a hand on his shoulder. “Are you ok? What on Earth is going on with you?” she asked him with no prelude.

Cass watched Pyro storm out of the Great Hall in a flurry. Concerned, she waited a moment before she followed him. She had already been accused of turning into a Slytherin once this week, and she really didn't want to have to deal with that again. Quickly following, she picked up the crumpled piece of paper he had thrown to the ground. Reading the note, her eyes raised in surprise.
Could you really strip someone of their surname? Cass thought to herself.
She followe him out to the grounds where she saw another Slytherin approach Pyro, who seemed very angry at the time. Not really sure if he wanted company, she sort of hung back. Maybe this was one of those wierd Slytherin things that only they could deal with. Or maybe it was one of those wizards things she didn't quite understand yet?
Leaning back on a nearby wall, she waited for him to vent his anger.

Pyros eyes were shut. The pain in his hand was hardly bothering him. Infact, all he could feel at the moment was dull throb along his arm. Images of his father flashed through his mind in rapid succesion. Never would he have dreamed his father would go that far. Not to mention, He had no where to go now. Where would he go when summer came? Maybe his aunt or uncle would take him in. no, they didnt like pyro much either, and they wouldnt go against his father.
As his mind was going through possible places to go a new realiazation hit him. His Stuff! Disposed off! Hed had some decent artifacts that hed managed to get a hold off. Artifacts he never brought to school for fear that they might get stolen. now were disposed off. No, His father wouldnt destroy some of those artifacts. Probebly decided to keep them for himself.
So was it that the first person he pictured when he felt a hand on his shoulder was his father. he was half way through his motions before he opened his eyes. The arm that punched the wall swung around, turning his body towards the person. The arm swung and connected with the forearm of the person and backhanded their hand away. his other hand came around in a punch. It was at that moment that his eyes were finally open and he heard a familiar voice. the familiar voice of a female. Just as the mental recognition kicked in his eyes finaly saw the person standing next to him.
he couldnt stop his punch. He was able to alter its direction a small fraction. that fraction combined with his surprised jerk was enough to send the punch wide over her shoulder. The sudden change cause him to become off balance. He stumbled foreward and into mary, sending them both nearly off their feet. He manged to catch himself and spared them both a tumble. he scrambled back from her.
"Mary!....Almost!......I!...you!....what?Are....ok...you?" He breath heavily as he realized he had come within a few centemeter of hitting her. he looked at her. Not being able to formulate a normal sentance at that percise moment. Plus the sting in his hand had become more prominent now.

Amelia woke up with a frustrated growl. Her mind was not cooperating with her need for sleep! She got out of bed and sighed. She was very tired, but she just couldn't sleep in like she wanted. So Amelia fixed her hair, put on her cloak and shoes and out the Portrait door she went. When she couldn't sleep, Amelia took a walk. She wasn't hungry so she skipped breakfast and walked outside.
She smiled slightly to herself as the cool morning air greated her with a rustle through her long blonde hair. She now sighed in, not frustration at the lack of sleep, but in sudden contentment. Her walk brought her into the courtyard where Pyro and Mary stood. She decided to walk over and say a quick 'hello' when she noticed how angry Pyro looked. She still walked over, but slowly and worried.
"Hello?" she asked as she approached the two.

Pyro’s shoulder was tense beneath her arm and she felt him begin to swing around. Before she realised it he had harshly knocked her arm away and had his hand speeding toward her face. Not being used to physical violence Mary simply stood there shocked while she saw recognition suddenly spring onto his face. Luckily for him he missed because she would have given him hell if he hurt her anymore than what he did to her arm, which she was currently nursing. Instead of hitting her he fell on her and she stumbled back but didn’t fall. “I'm fine but you nearly knocked me out there. Gosh I think my arm is bruised.” She answered his sputtering distractedly while pulling up her sleeve but was relieved to find her skin as pale as ever.
As soon as she realised she was ok her attention was back to the situation at hand. “Me?? You’re asking about me? Are you ok? What's going on with you honey? You stormed out of the castle in such a huff…” she screamed at him. “You scared me half to death you know that. All I see when coming upstairs is you whip past and stomp out the door like there was no tomorrow; then I come to see if your alright and you nearly punch me in the face.” She continued to yell knowing it was irrational for her to be mad at him but not able to help it. She knew it was even absurd for her to have been scared by the way he was acting but… she had never seen him angry before. When they first meet she annoyed him but never to the point of anger and their last meeting in the common room had been so serene she had nearly fallen asleep in his arms.
A few moments later a girl Mary had never meet came up and offered a hesitant hello. “Hi…” Mary said to the girl with a raised eyebrow unsure of how to react. Maybe she knew Pyro or something…
Pyro looked down at her arm and noticed her nursing it. it should be fine he figured. he looked back up at her face when she suddenly began to yell at him. he took a step back in surprise and shock. The shock remained for a few seconds. but than his bubling anger rose back to the top. he glared at her. why was she yelling at him. She had no idea what had just happened to him. So what if he had reacted a bit harsh when she surprised him.
When it looked like her yelling fit was over he advanced a step toward her. 'I scared you!" he yelled. " You cant just sneak up on a guy when they are lost in thought and just grab them without warning!" His fist clenched at his side, causing a stab of pain to run through his hurt hand. mental note, dont clench hurt hand... "so quite yelling at me alright." he said a bit quieter. "Im not in the mood for it right now." he turned his back on her. than he noticed Amelia. "great. more people...why me, why now." He muttered quietly.

As Mary finished screaming at him Pyro began yelling back and Mary withdrew slightly; nobody ever yelled at her, she was Mary. He started off complaining that she had snuck up on him then told her to stop yelling, he wasn’t in the mood. Pyro turned his back on her and appeared to ignore the other girl so Mary followed his example. “Yes you scared me and I was only trying to help. Honestly can't you see I was just trying to make sure you were alright? You don't have to go punching someone in the face for trying to help you.” She said back not yelling anymore but forcefully.
She then took a step forward so she was standing with her head at his right shoulder, because he was so much taller than her, and his back still to her. “So that’s what you do huh? I come out here to see if you are ok because I care about you and you turn you back on me. Real mature Pyro. Why won't you just tell me what’s wrong; I'm only here to help and I can't do that if I don't know what’s going on.” She said softly into his ear.

Cass pulled out the letter she was holding in her hand. She finally spoke. " I don't really understand about what's going on, but I don't think any of us can help you with you swinging around like a boxer."
She picked up the letter he had thrown in the floor. " I know this is whats bugging you."

Mary was started as yet another voice spoke behind their backs. Turning around Mary saw yet another girl had approached them, but this one she recognized. This was the Gryff Pyro had gone to the party with, Cassandra. Mary gave the girl a critical once over with her eyes trying to figure out what was so special about her that Pyro would even consider dating a Gryffie. She had seen her countless times of course in class through the years and once even at a club with Pyro but then she had assumed Pyro was only leading the girl on to make her cry or something. Now she knew Pyro betrayed his family, house, beliefs, for this girl Mary couldn’t help but look at her with new eyes. She remembered her first few meetings with Pyro when he was being punished for muggle torture with a smirk…This wasn’t the time though so she snapped her attention back to the present.
Cassandra was holding out a sheet of paper and saying that it was why Pyro was so upset. Without a word Mary took the proffered paper and read… “What! He can't do that. We will fight this. I'm putting the Evans name behind this; we can't let him get away with this.” Mary rambled indignant. “Why didn’t you just tell me instead of trying to put your fist through my face? I’ll send a letter to my father with Basil I'm sure his can be rectified.” She said simply.

Kris had been flying around in the morning for once on his broom. Kris wasn’t a fanatic of qudditch, but he kept himself in good enough shape. Flying around on his Nimbus 2001 Kris saw Pyro storming out of the castle and banging the floor, which caused Kris to raise a sardonical eye-brow. Had the third year completely lost his mind? Kris knew the third year Slytherin – Pyro had character, which Kris respected, even though they hadn’t really talked much. Nor were the actually even friends, but they knew each other. Mainly thanks to Mary. From his position high in the air, Kris was able to see Mary and Cassandra joining Pyro and feeling curious enough, Kris turned his broom around and joined the small group as well. And he watched the situation, tensing up when Pyro made to attack, and silently being thankful that the punch Pyro had thrown hadn’thurt Mary. Kris didn’t blame Pyro for reacting that way – he would have probably done the same, but he wouldn’t have forgiven, if Mary had been hurt.
Kris turned his broom around and flew towards the place where the small group now stood as two girls had joined Mary and Pyro. “I think the wall was hurt less, but I’m willing to take bets as to when Pyro will take the wall down,” Kris commented emotionlessly, noticing the bit stiff angle of Pyro’s hand and understanding that the younger boy had hurt it. Probably sprained it a little, but Kris doubted it was broken. Kris wondered if Pyro would want him to fix it – it was possible, but painful, but didn’t ask at the moment. Noticing Mary shivering a little in her robes, which really weren’t meant to be outside in the cold, Kris shrugged off his own upper cloak and placed it over Mary’s shoulders, as he himself much more preferred the colder weather, as Mary loved the warmth: “Don’t catch a cold.”
”You probably spraind your wrist with that punch though,” Kris didn’t exactly offer help, but he would do it, if Pyro wanted. Having heard Cassandra’s last words, Kris’s wand was out in a heart-beat and the paper – letter flew out of Mary’s hands. “No offence girls, but don’t you know it’s not impolite to read other people’s letters?” Kris asked silkily handing the letter back to Pyro. It was SLytherin nature – Kris had seen enough to guess what was wrong with Pyro – stripping from a last-name was tough – but he knew that if the younger guy wanted others to know, he would tell them himself.

Pyro droped his gaze to the ground and sighed. "yes, I know you were trying to help. im not that dense. But my mind was somewhere else and that unwarned contact. wasnt good." He turned to face her. 'you wnat to know whats wrong. well its....." He was cut off as Cassandra walked up to them. his eyes went wide as he noticed her approach. Oh no, he didnt want to get her involved in this.
he was just about to change the subject when she brought out the letter. Again his eyes went wide and he groped his pocket and noticed that the letter wasnt there. he must have droped it. he was just about to snatch it from her when mary grabed it and read it. 'hey...". Than she started to go on a tirade. He waved his arms and to try and calm her. 'no no no, youll do no such thing. This is between me and him."
“I think the wall was hurt less, but I’m willing to take bets as to when Pyro will take the wall down,” Pyro heard a familiar voice behind him, he turned and noticed kris. Pyro couldnt help but smile slightly at his words. But the smile was short lived. Pyro looked down at his hand. "yea, I did something to it. One doesnt usually punch a wall and walk away from it." he sighed. "guess ill have to go to that old bat pomfrey." Pyro took the letter back and muttered. "thanks..." quietly. he looked down at the letter in his hands. reading it once again. Anger rising inside him again. he crumbled up the paper and through it into the air, he pulled his wand out and flicked it toward the paper ball. the ball burst into flame. the ashes floated for a while and than broke apart.

Cass nodded at Kris as he landed in the field. This is all my fault, she thought to herself. She knew it was. They had already settled that they couldn't be together. Well, he settled they couldn't be together. It tore her apart. Now she knew why. This girl from his house was apparently who he cared about. What a fool she had been. To honestly think that a Slytherin could care about a Gryffindor was very naive of her. She wiped away the few tears that had escaped her eyes. Now was not the time to be weak.
She spoke to the crowd, " Shouldn't we listen to him and find out what he wants us to do before we start storming castles? We all mean well, but ultimately its his decision. He may not want us to do anything at all."
God, she really hoped that the Slytherin girl didn't think she was throwing spears at her.

Still ranting about Pyro’s father Mary was fully prepared to send a letter to her father when Pyro so much as slapped her in the face. He was waving his hands in the air and telling her no. She just looked at him like he was crazy, nobody ever told her no. Pyro said it was between his father and himself; Mary was about to argue that without the Blackfire name Pyro had no standing and therefore no chance of winning lest he accept her help; the Evans name could go a long way. She couldn’t make her little speech though because just then Kris showed up.
Kris put his cloak around Mary’s shoulders and she smiled up at him. “Thank you.” She said revelling in the sudden warmth; she had forgotten the cold for a moment there but now with the feeling returning to her limbs she was extremely grateful to have a proper winter cloak. She looked down at Pyro’s hand at Kris’ words and remembered Pyro’s hitting the wall. It did look bad but she knew Pyro could handle that; she was more concerned with the bigger problem, Pyro’s lack of surname.
She was dumbfounded as the letter flew out of her hand in Kris’ direction; was everyone against her this day? She was not used to this type or treatment and most definitely didn’t enjoy it. She gave Kris a pout until he told her it wasn’t nice to read other’s letters. She simply stuck out her tongue at him and turned back to Pyro who was back in possession of his mail.
As she watched the letter burn Mary was about to shout out that they should keep that for the legal holdings when Cassandra began to speak once again. She mentioned letting Pyro speak before they go “storming castles” and that it was his decision. “What decision? He can't go through life nameless; how would he get by? Honestly Pyro you have to know that you are going to have to do something. You can't let him get away with this. Without your name what are you? God were it me I would be raising hell.” Mary said trying to think about what life would be like were she not an Evans. She couldn’t imagine the misery and she knew Pyro was better than that.

“Old bat Pomfrey,” Kris muttered watching calmly as Pyro incinerated the letter and listened to Cassandra’s and Mary’s words. Stepping towards Pyro, Kris took his broken wrist and probed it with his eyes and fingers for a moment, before locking his eyes with Pyro’s for a moment: “On three.”
Kris smirked as he averted his eyes back to Pyro’s wrist. When something like that was said, then the bone was usually snapped back on ‘two’ as then ones muscle’s weren’t tensed up yet. Wondering if Pyro also knew it, Kris smirked and started counting. “One,” he said calmly pulling at the same time and hearing with content as the sprained wrist popped back into it’s place. Knowing that it must have hurt as hell, Kris rather respected the fact that Pyro hadn’t yelled out loud. Stepping back, Kris pulled out his wand and casted a pain-killing charm on Pyro’s wrist: “It’s back in place. You can see Pomfrey later, but it should heel just fine without her as well. It wouldn’t hurt to put something cold on it though.”
Kris settled back and leaned against the castle wall, crossing his arms over his chest and silently took in the situation for a moment. Getting his family-name back as well as access to the family-fortune wouldn’t be bad at all. But in Kris’s opinion it would be far worse to raise hell out of the problem. “Raise a scandal because of it? Even if the Ministry would nullify that pact – which is doubtful, as these kinds of letters and documents are binding for good – Pyro would never be allowed to forget this event. And if his father already ripped him off his last-name, then being constantly reminded that he was taken back only by his father’s good-will would be a whole lot worse,” Kris said, half-directing his words to Mary, half talking to everyone, “If Pyro took on a new name for himself – started his own lineage of pure-bloods and was successful in doing so – now that would make him the winner in this and but his father into a bad spot in the eyes of society, not to mention hurting his fathers pride.”
Kris let silence stretch for a moment, so his words would reach everyone, before he turned his head so his last words were directed to Pyro: “As you are stripped from your last-name you can choose a new name – as long as it isn’t used by any other wizarding family – for free at the Ministry. Legally you also have a right for getting free books until the end of your studying at Hogwarts as well as the Ministry will have to find a place for you to live during that time. Doubt you want to live in the places Ministries use for people in situations like you though. Or sign a contract with someone undependably wealthy. He – or she - will borrow you money as much as you need and you agree on the time at which you have to pay it back with a small per cent. Let’s say in 30 years – your pride survives, you leave your father to ponder about how you did it and you won’t have to take anyone’s pity, as you’ll pay back for everything.” Kris wondered silently whether or not Pyro had it in him to survive alone without a name behind his back. “People like that who’d do it aren’t very easy to come by, especially here in England, but it is a possibility,” Kris explained – he knew laws rather well, having had to deal with them himself a couple of years earlier, “Mary’s parents might be up to it. Or talk to Dana – Meredith and Julien might do it, if they like you well enough. Or even myself could finance it, so there will be possibilities. You just have to think and decide on what you want to do now.”

Cass looked at Kris with a mix of disgust and astonishment. You can by your family?!, she thought to herself. Cass had not been brought up like that; nor did she think anyone should be brought up like that. Her family had big problems, but she wouldn't trade them for the world.
Cass made a hurumph! She had seen Pyro's reaction when he noticed her. She didn't want to talk much, but she had to get this one of her chest. " It's probably for the best Pyro, you always told me how much you hated your name."

"hi..." Amelia said. She noticed Pyro looked as if he didn't want her there. Amelia bit her lip nervously. She had never had a full conversation with Pyro and never even seen Mary before now. She sighed slightly and shifted uncomfortably.
"Look, I can leave if you want?" she asked, wishing she didn't sound so much like a little kid. Maybe she should just go find Liam. She hadn't seen him for a little while. She had made up her mind to go see Liam when the two started to yell and scream at eachother. Amelia's mouth dropped and she quickly said good bye.
Amelia rushed away, not wanting to interfere anymore.

Mary listened to Kris talk about the consequences of Pyro forcing himself back into the Blackfire family and conceded with a pout but no more shouting. She listened as Kris went on to say Pyro should start a new line and perhaps try and be “adopted” into another pureblood family in the meantime.
He suggested the Evans family along with his grandparents and even himself as a last resort and Mary simply looked at him as if he were crazy. “Well of course he would come with me; my mother would be euphoric, plus I for one would not leave his future up to some stranger with a “good” name. But trust me mommy dearest will be through the roof, she adored you that time you came over last summer. And the fact that your father was complaining about your habit of muggle torture only made her like you more, she was bugging me to get in touch with you for weeks after that. Her only criticism was that you mustn’t be so overt with your torture lest the ministry catch you.
Should that not be enough to convince her, which I know it will be… Have any of you read R.A. Salvatore? I know he’s a muggle but he’s amazing. The point is when the house of De’Vir was destroyed Alton was adopted into house Hun’ett in order to seek revenge on house Do’Urden. There was no enmity between Hun’ett and Do’Urden but Matron SiNafay understood that it was a good idea to bring down Matron Malice anyways. Now, to my point, I know there is no rivalry between the Blackfires and the Evans’ but, and no offence here, but we all know the Blackfires are known for being hot headed… You don't want someone like that to oppose you so… I doubt my mother would mind putting the Blackfire name to shame in case your father ever does choose to stand up to her. You know?” Mary rambled on knowing that it would work.

Pyro was about to agree with cassandra but Mary cut him off before he could get his piece in. He looked at Mary. "i know I know Mary. Although a surname isnt exactly required to live. It just helps in situations. And there is no way im gonna let him get away with it that easily. Ill get my revenge."
Pyro looked at kris curiously as he steped up and grabed his wrist. pyro offered no resistance as kirs lifted it up and looked at it. Even before Kris looked at him he knew exactly what Kris was thinking. Than Kris looked at him and said "on three." Pyro groaned inwardly. He knew it had to be done. Even if he didnt want it. He had been in martial arts and kendo and numerous other physical excercises. and he had gotten hurt in numerous cases. So for the wrist to heal he would have to get it snaped back into place.
Pyro took a deep breath of air and held it. He knew kris wasnt gonna count all the way to three. that was a comman trick, he probably would only reach two, or maybe even one. pyro held the breath in. He watched kris and knew he was about to start counting. pyro slowly released the breath just before Kris started to count. The breath forced his body to relax just as Kris reached one and snaped the wrist back into place. The pain was explosive and it traveled up his arm and down his side and back to the arm. Pyro bit his lip and had a muffled shout.
His entire wrist throbed in anger. The spell Kris put on the wrist turned the anger throb into just a dull, numbing throb. Pyro lifted his hand and moved his wrist a bit, noticing how the numbing sensation became worse and deeper. He probably should move the wrist for a while. He than looked at kris as kris began to tell him exactly the thing pyro was thinking. Although he didnt like the idea of having to pay back a 30 year debt. But at the moment he didnt really see how he had any choice in the matter. it was either the debt, or live under a bridge somewhere. pyro did have his own little bank account. This own did not have his parents name on it. So they couldnt control that one. But, he didnt have much saved in it. Probably enough to last him a room for a week in the leaky couldron. Not much to go on.
Pyro turned to Cassandra as she began to speak. He sighed. "what I hated was the name pyro. What kind of a nut names their kid 'Pyro?' My surname I could live with." Pyro turned to face Amelia, He had completly forgotten about her when he and mary had started shouting at each other. He tried to say something to her but she was already gone.
Pyro looked at Mary with a raised eyebrow. "Um...I am? Well, I think thats very nice of you..But, you know I dont really think I should intrude like that." He chuckled slightly. he had read that particular series from the muggle author. It had been quite interesting, and now that he thought about it, he was in almost the same boat as Alton. He looked at mary. "well, lets just hope I dont share the same fate as Alton. Dieing in a explosion is just such a tragedy to this pretty face."

"Muggle Torture?" She couldn't help but exclaim those words when she heard them. The words Mary had said sliced through her like a hot knife through butter. Couldn't of she just continued to stay in her world where she knew nothing about Pyro's past? At least, there she could continue to believe he was a good Slytherin who had never done any of these things she had heard so many awful rumor about it.
She sighed in a resigned way. She couldn't belive this. She seriously was a complete fool She had actually fallen for a Muggle Torturing Slytherin who was probably trying to set up for something. She'd abhored being a mudblood at this point. If she wasn't what she was, she wouldn't of felt as foolish at this point.
She nearly spat out her words because she was so disgueted with herself. " Pyro, it's okay. Your still going to be our friend no matter what your called or what family name you have. It will be okay. We'll get you through this."
She came up to take his arm to inspect. She looked at Kris. " Not bad, but we probably need to get him up to the hospital wing soon. I would hate for it too swell up."
