Mornings really aren't that bad... (Jordan)

Kat resurfaced from her dive in the Hogwarts lake and almost lazily started to pull herself towards the shore. The water would have been icy if not for the heating charm on Kat, that made the water to feel just slightly colder, around 14 degrees by Celsius, Kat guessed. Kat didn’t mind though, as she was and had always been rather fond of a colder weather.

Kat reached the shore after about 5 minutes of swimming and pulled herself on a huge, higher cliff where she had left her clothes. Kat renewed the heating charm on her body, so she wouldn’t catch a cloth and pulled a pair of jeans and a bronze-colored V-necked sweater on her swimming-suit.

After pulling on socks and her sneakers Kat started towards the school leisurely, trying to comb her hair with her fingers. It was an early morning at the weekend, so Kat didn’t expect many others to be up yet, until she saw a figure, who had probably just excited the school house.

Feeling rather curious Kat trotted closer until she was able to recognize the girl. Kat smiled brightly and picked up some speed catching up to Jordan rather quickly and flashing a smile at the other girl.

“Morning, Jordan, I didn’t really expect to see you out so early, especially at week-end. Hardly anyone is out usually, besides Hagrid, who makes some rounds,” Kat greeted the other while fishing around in her pocket quickly, “By the way, remember when we bought a kitten for my brother? Jake absolutely adored the kitten. I thought about looking you up today at breakfast, but seeing you now works as well.”<br>
Kat pulled out a little wrapped package and handed it to Jordan: “Here, I never met you earlier so I could give you your Christmas present. It has been charmed, so just think of your favorite song and put it around your neck before opening it for the first time. I saw it at a window display, when my brother took me to Madrid for a weekend during the vacation and thought you might like it.”<br>
Kat smiled at Jordan friendlily, pushing her soaking-wet hair away from her face and silently pondering what Jordan would think of the gift. It looked like a little locket, but when opened it would play the tune that the person, who first wore it was thinking off when it was first opened. It had a little carving of small flowers on it – ‘forget-me-not’ blooms.

Jordan was up early this morning because, of the heart wrenching fear of Jason coming over to her house and not finding her there. Jason Roswick had moved back to the little town in which Jordan lived and had expected her to welcome him with warm and loving arms. But, she had done jus tthe contrary. She had moved on from Jason. She didn't love him anymore, she liked someone else....she just didn't know how to explain that to him without telling him about Hogwarts.

Walking around the school in a trance wasn't going to help Jordan in any sort of way, so she had decided to take an early morning stroll around the grounds. She normally wasn't a morning person, especially on the weekends. No, she was most definitly a sleep in until noon or later type of girl on the weekends. If you woke her up, there would be hell to pay. And Jordan made you pay thousands of dollars.

Exitting the great double doors and walking to the lake, her mind started to leave the fear of Jason and wander to Katie. What in hell had gotten into that 11 year old? She was only 11 and she was wearing make-up. Jordan didn't mind changing, she knew that it was essential to growing up, but honestly Katie wore more make-up then Jordan did and she was 13! This was stressing Jordan to no end, Chris wouldn't say anything to Katie because, he didn't see it his place to tell her what to do. Though Pat had no problem with it, Katie just simply wouldn't listen.

As each day went by, and Katie kept wearing make-up, Jordan kept getting closer and closer to Patricia Mason.At first, Jordan despised the young woman who was bewitching her eldest brother. But, slowly as she and Pat began to talk and laugh Jordan realized that in ways, Pat was exactly like Jordan. She liked the same music, she loved to paint, and she enjoyed watching old re-runs of American shows like 'I Love Lucy.' Pat was just, an older version of the younger Jordan.

It was often that, Chris would walk into the house with all the lights off and the television in the living room casting off light from the black and white television show. Pat would greet him with a kiss and Jordan would hit him on the head for not kissing back, this would cause laughter, and pieces of chocolate being thrown across the room. They all would then settle down and watch the re-run of I Love Lucy. Someone would occasionally ask, "Where's Katie? Have you seen her today?" But, every night it was the same answer, "no, she's out with her friends." Though, no one was certain that was the actual truth.

Kat Lurjee then jolted Jordan away from her thoughts by greeting her and handing her a present. Jordan felt terrible, she hadn't gotten Kat anything. Actually, she really hadn't gotten anyone anything because, of the sad events that had happened over the winter break. Katie being in a coma and all. Jordan smiled as she took the gift, opened it and listened to what Kat said to do. Thinking of 'Favorite Things' she put the necklace on around her neck, clasped the clasp closed and opened up the locket. The music flowed beautifully out of the material and Jordan smiled thankfully.

"Thanks, Kat...I needed this. I'm sorry I don't have anything for you, the break has been so hectic and I haven't had time for shopping. Tragic isn't it? So, Jake liked the kitten? That's good , because if he didn't I would have taken it. What are you doing up so early? And...wet?" Jordan greeted as she hugged Kat and got wet from the girls hair. Jordan giggled and shook her head, trying to get the wetness away.

Kat smiled as Jordan closed the clasp of the locket and opened it then, so the tune of ‘Favorite things’ floated around them softly.

“Nah, don’t worry about it. I don’t do presents with the hope of getting something in return. Besides I like to make little presents like these to my friends. I hope I can call you a friend. I’m sorry about your holidays though – I have heard some little bits – gossip travels fast in this castle thanks to the ghosts and the portraits. I seem to be one of the few person’s who speak to the portraits and Peeves around this castle, so they always keep me up to date with what is going on here. Oh, and Jake adored the kitten - took him to Japan with him and the kitten sleeps in his bed,” Kat grinned and hugged Jordan back.

“Oh, got you wet, didn’t I? I don’t know any drying charms though,” Kat grinned and shrugged at Jordan’s question, “I am always up this early. Every morning I jog about 2 kilometres around sunrise – there are some absolutely fantastic tracks around here. I don’t need a lot of sleep, so it isn’t hard.”<br>
“But I decided to swim a little this morning as well. The water was refreshing,” Kat smiled and made a cartwheel, before turning to face Jordan again, laughing, “I’m an active person. At home I usually jog in the morning and then go and greet our horses. And my own Winddancer.”<br>
Kat tugged lightly on Jordan’s curl and watched it hop back to it’s original place: “I really like the new hair-style though. It looks great. Why are you up so early though? Couldn't sleep?”<br>
