Brooke walked to the lake. It was just moments ago she got into a word fight with Mack. But wasn't Mack that upset her it was Jack. Why does he care about her so much. She asked her self. it wasn't like they were dating. Maybe they are a voice in side her head said.


But I like Jack she argued with her self. I din't make this happen. The tears yell down. It was quitly no one could hear hear. I bet my self that he stays up there with her she says to her self. She began to calm down. Olny a little.

Jack walked towards the lake after talking to Mack for a little. He noticed Brooke was still there. He decided to go over there, since he had cooled down a lot. He walked over to Brooke and noticed that she had finally broke down. Tears were falling, and Jack couldn't help feeling a tiny bit guilty. It looked as if Brooke was calming down. Jack cleared his throat loudly to tell Brooke he was there.

"Did I come at a bad time?"

Wiping her eyes she looked up at Jack. " No. I'm sorry I acted like that back there its just she made me so angery." She said. Her voice quivered a bit in the attempt.

Jack watched Brooke as she gathered herself together. This might take a while, Jack thought. He laughed a little as Brooke apoligized.

"It's not your fault. You shouldn't go messing with Mack. She my friend and I would know. She's not one to feel pity." Jack said, a smile creeping onto his face.

Brooke began to pace. " She made me sound horrible. I'm not boy crazy. Really. And I'm not stuck up. I have feelings and I hate when people mess with them. I guess you hate me. But can I ask you a question if you were my friend why did you do that to me? " Brooke spoke as words appered in her head.

Jack watched as Brooke started pacing.

"Mack just guesses what people are like. You don't have to worry. But maybe you could have a civil conversation with her and that might help." He didn't add that Mack usually guessed right.

He looked a little akward at what Brooke asked him. "What do you mean?" Jack asked, even though he knew exactly what she meant.

" Jack I may not know you like Mack does but you know what I mean. I'm falling really hard right now that din't make it easier." Brooke wispered.

She walked over to she looked into his eyes the eyes that calmed her the first time. She accutly smilied.

Jack looked at the ground. He didn't want to look at her any longer. He heard her walk over, but he still didn't look up. When he did, he found himself staring straight into her eyes. He looked down yet again, walked away from her a little and then sat on the ground. He looked out on the lake, which was shimmering with a wonderful light.

"You must remember Brooke, that I am a Slytherin and you are a Ravenclaw." Jack said quietly. "You haven't even seen what I can be like. Not even Mack has."

[sunshine]

Looking away Brooke toke a deep breath. " I know our diffrences. And I'm aware you you have a diffrent side. and I do try to stay away. Because I hate when your mad. Even if I never saw that side. It pains me." Brooke finally let her mind out. After two weeks she was speaking up.

Jack couldn't help smiling.

"You have to take that in consederation. It seems like you are ignoring everything that is different about us, which is a lot." Jack sighed. The part about his bad side and it paining Brooke made Jack give a half smile.

"If you really want to know what I'm like, you'll have to talk to Bridget Vreeland. She's a friend of mine, I guess you could say. She is the only one that has seen the true me..." Maybe that was a bad idea for Brooke to talk to Bee. Bee was his friend, and he had never told anyone about her.

[sunshine]

" I don't ignore them. I choose to leave them be. And when the time comes for one of them to come up. I try work them out." Brooke said.

Sitting on the ground she put her hand to her head and groaned. " All I want to do is tell you something and now I am to of a coward to tell you. I wish I could tell you. But I'm affraid how you would react." Brooke said she was ready to say this but how?

Jack shook his head with amazement. Would this ever get through to her?! She was just to stubborn. He sat there, looking at the lake, not wanting to say anything more. Her comment made him look at her, however, in a surprised manner.

"Get on with it then. I'm not a person who waits around." He told her. "And you might not like my reaction, it depends what you have to say, but I think we will live even if I have a negative reaction."

" I can't." She said simply.

" See you might live but your reaction might parilize me." She explained.

Jack shook his head yet again. He decided to go to another subject, since Brooke wasn't going to tell him anything.

"So, did you talk to Mack yet? At least, a coversation without insults?" Jack asked, ready for a bombarment of complaints from Brooke.

[sunshine]

"yes." Brooke said simply.

Digging into her bag she felt the note she was going to give him.

Jack really doubted that she and Mack had a conversation, but he didn't say anything. He looked back at Brooke, who was digging into her bag.

"What are you doing?" He asked her, not able to keep the curiousity out of his voice.

[sunshine]

" You don't believe? fine I can tell you what we said. Oh and this is a letter." Brookw said testly holding up a sealed sheet of parchment.


She handed it to him. It read the following:


Dear Jack,
I may be scared to tell you this to your face so I put it in writing instead. For the last two weeks I have been out of my mind. I can't tell you how confused I feel. So there's one thing to say. I like you. A lot. I wish I could say love. But I don't know the meaning.

I know you may not return my feelings and thats o.k. Because I am stuborn and full of my self. And you deserve better. I have a feeling that you like Mack. And I know for sure she likes you. And ya'll have more in common. I hope this does not interferr with our friendship. I am your friend and I hope for your better life.

She got up and turned to Jack. " Come and find me when you read it and thought it over." She spoke and turned away.

Jack took one look at the note and almost threw it in the water. He needed someone to talk to. Someone like... Mack. Mack would help him. He knew she would. He looked up and saw that Brooke had left. He put the note down on the ground, stood up, and jumped into the lake, hoping the water would help clear his mind.

Brooke saw that Jack jumped into the lake. God damn it he hates me. Brooke thought to her self.
