Taking a break (Jaquin)

Heather bounded into the Hufflepuff common room with a stack of books in her hands with Hannah trailing behind carrying the same amount. Setting the books down on the table near the window, Heather pulled out a chair and sat down wondering where to start first. N.E.W.Ts was even harder than O.W.Ls and Heather felt quite stressed on what to go over first. "How about we go over...um.....Potions. I am not doing so well in Professors Snapes class." Heather said with a frown while picking up a book on all kinds of different potions and special affects it had on people and the environment. Heather was never a great student but tried. Her parents always fussed over how she should work in the Ministry and get a suitable job to make a living off of. But Heather really didn't know what she wanted to do. Maybe become a Professor or learn more about Astronomy. There was something about stars and sequence that really attached Heather to the subject. But there was also Charms, her second favorite class.

After a thirty minutes of studying Potions Heather moved onto Defense against the Dark Arts to sharpen up on her dueling skills and other counter courses a sixth year needed to know for the upcoming N.E.W.Ts. "Banishing Charm.......Sends an object away from the caster. Hm...That sounds some what interesting." Heather said putting on elbow on the table with her chin in the palm while flipping though pages in the book. She was already tried of studying! "Don't they ever give us a break?" Heather mumbled under her breath while turning the page with complete boredom. At least Heather knew she wasn't going to be an Aurror when she left Hogwarts, but she needed to know the counter courses and spells to protect her self against any harm. Since the fact that Julie and Ginny have both been kid napped during the school term. Once thinking about the kid napping Heather tried to think of the upcoming Quidditch match against Slytherin. She was on the reserve team and played any position that needed to be filled if some one got hurt or couldn't make it.

As Heather moved onto a Charms book Hannah than left the table when Susan came into the common room wanting to talk to her best friend in private. Both of her friends said something about taking a break and could pick it up later tomorrow. But Heather wasn't listening and just continued on reading. Sitting up straight Heather put her hand up to her mouth and let out a big yawn while turning her head towards the window. Rays of sunlight peeked into the room and the grass was as green as can be. A smile spread across Heather's face as she stood up from the chair and closing the books that scattered all along the table and pile them all into her back bag carefully. Humming a tune Heather collected her camera that was always bought to Hogwarts and exited the common room still that song she just recently heard Hannah and Susan sing together. Those two were quite close and Heather was glad to be accepted in their little circle of friendship.

The sun felt so good on Heather's face when she walked out into the court yard. A huge smile was placed on her face and began to spin around in a circle taking in the warmth of the sunlight. Stopping Heather put the camera strap over her shoulder and held the device probably looking for something interesting to take photos of. Some students were running around and others were lounging on the grass. The sight made Heather feel good on the inside and bought out a happy side of her. Walking further in the court yard she tucked some blonde hair behind her ears and saw some yellow and orange flowers all bunched together in the far corner next to a fountain. Getting on her knees she positioned the camera trying to find the right spot. Clicking the mirror she took a picture of the flowers and smiled at her work. Knelling once again Heather began to take a picture of a group of children running and having a great time with each other.

[Jaquin Prokenstien]

Jaquin hated the fact that being in 6th year meant preparing for N.E.W.T.s that were to come in his next and final year at Hogwarts. Everything had become so sophisticated in comparison to his easy going schedule before his 5th year. However, being on edge and having to be prepared for any surprise tests helped ameliorate his skill and knowledge in both muggle and magical subjects. Jaquin planned to attend one of the most famous muggle universities, namely the School of Medicine at Harvard University. They had already accepted him as a student and he had taken several classes during the summer to prepare him for five more years of work before he could become a biologist, doctor (in muggle terms), and be employed as a magibiologist in the Ministry. He did find time for other things, however, such as hanging out with his Ravenclaw buddies, although the recent lost of his friendship with Perseus still stung.

Jaquin made his way down from the west side where Ravenclaw Tower was and headed towards the Library. The quiescent, traquil atmosphere always helped Jaquin study, and everything he needed was stored in the capacious complexes of the library. He passed several windows looking out towards the lake, standing in the Cimmerian penumbrae created as the sun shone against the wall. Light filtered through the stained glass windows and Madam Pince looked reproachfully at him as though he were making too much noise. Jaquin was glad to get away from the overly rambunctious and tumultuous atmosphere where students usually gathered. He was glad that the library would always be a place of solitude. Jaquin made his way through the rows of bookshelves and sat down before taking out a book about Defense Against the Dark Arts, something that would be consequential with the second war with Voldemort gearing up. He felt confident that he would do pretty well in N.E.W.T.s Defense Against the Dark Arts, as he had mastered the patronus charm during his fifth year and was very adept at dueling. Jaquin had finally begun to master the art of potion making after Perseus helped him through the more sophisticated branches of the subject. Now, he was much more confident after having ameliorated his skills and knowledge.

After a few hours of studying potions and defense against hte dark arts, Jaquin moved on to Herbology, Charms, and Arithmancy, three subjects he was also skilled in. He flipped through large tomes, encompassing many miniscule particulars. Reviewing his notes from his fifth year, Jaquin found that he remembered everything and had not problem writing an essay on the evolutionary process of magical flora and fauna. Moving on to Charms, Jaquin practiced basic spells from accio to spells such as the vanishing spell and the temporary invisibility charm. He meticulously practiced the movements of each spell with his wand before practicing each one. Next in line came Arithmancy, which entailed spending a few hours solving logistical, statistical, and mathematical problems. Jaquin felt that it was a bit tedious, but nevertheless continued studying. Astronomy was no different. Care of Magical Creatures was Jaquin's specialty, as he was best at the subject in his year. He flipped through several texts about the Chimera and decided that he would enjoy the rest of the afternoon outside.

Making his way through the crowded halls of Hogwarts, Jaquin felt elation build up inside of him. He was finally free from all the studying, not that he did not enjoy studying, of course. The cacophony that loqacious students created on weekends were unbearable, so, it was most advisable to spend one's day outside. Strolling through the open doors of the Entrance Hall, Jaquin found himself staring at cottony, white clouds that drifted across a light blue, euphoric skyline. The collosal evergreen trees of the Forbidden Forest rustled as a strong wind blew by. The rolling green lawns of Hogwarts grounds matched its Scottish surroundings. Jaquin's attention was caught by a Hufflepuff girl, a 6th year by the looks of her, taking pictures of fellow students. He strolled down and stood next to the Hufflepuff, inquiring, "Good day. Are you going to put your pictures in photographic potion?" Jaquin was of course referring to the potion that allowed the inhabitants of pictures move.
