Drake walked into the courtyard with his cloak pulled over his head. He had only recently come back to school, and it seemed that no one knew whom he was. It was his third year at Hogwarts, and it seemed as if things were beginning to get tougher. It was hard coming back after so long and not knowing what is going on and what has happened. Drake stuck his hand in his pockets and sat on a bench near the center of the courtyard.
After a few minutes of sitting there Drake decided that he wanted to walk around. So he stood up and began looking around at the beauty that this place had brought him. Hogwarts used to be the one place that he felt wanted and accepted, but now it was just like home. He understood that it was only his second day back, but if someone hasn’t become your friend by now…where was the hope?
Drake finally took his hood down because he realized that it didn’t matter if he had friends. Yes, they were nice to have, but they weren’t necessary to get an education.
Drake turned ready to leave the courtyard in search of a book to read.

Mack was sick of her sister. She was sick of her sisters beliefes. She was just sick of her family. Period. So, as she sat in the Courtyard, relishing in all her hatred, Mack went over all her notes. The boring school work she hated so much. She hated a lot of things, now to think of it. And recently there had been a lot of hate.
She looked up as someone walked passed her. A Slytherin. Third year. Mack shrugged and lowered her head again. The wind picked up and blew her papers everywhere. Mack sighed and started to pick them up when one blew away from her grasp, towards the person who had walked by, "Hey you! Could you grab that please?" She called.

Drake gladly picked up the piece of paper that had flown his way. He looked at it, and across the top he read the name Mackenzie. He handed her back the paper and began to pick up the others that the wind had taken from her grasp. “Hi Mackenzie,” He said as he glanced down at the piece of paper. “My name is Drake.”
Drake looked at the girls face, and you could tell that something was bothering her.
“What’s wrong?” He asked.
He looked into her hate filled eyes. He could sense anger, and he thought that maybe there was a hint of loneliness, but not the kinds of loneliness that suggested that she didn’t have friends, but the kind that was brought on by anger. He then thought to himself that none of that made any sense.

"Thanks," Mack said, catching up to him. She took the paper and smiled. He introduced himself as Drake, and she nodded. She had seen him around the common room before, and in some of her classes. He was in Slytherin, and looked to be a third year. Around her age maybe. She never really spoke to him before, then a this couldn't have been anything surprising.
Then he asked what was wrong. And she bit her lip, "Absolutely nothing." Mack said with some sarcasm. She then turned away and headed back to the bench she had been sitting on. Truth was. Everything was wrong. And she would like to talk about everything that was wrong, but she didn't think it any of Drake's business. After all he didn't even know Mack and Mack didn't know him. So why tell her family secrets to someone she just met? Is that how people do things now? What happened to building friendships and then sharing things? It was all so different and Mack wasn't sure if she liked it. She wasn't sure of anything anymore.

As Mack hesitantly told drake that there was nothing wrong, he noticed that her voice hinted of sarcasm. She then turned and sat on the bench. Drake followed her and sat beside her. He wasn’t going to pressure her into anything, so he decided that conversation would be a good idea.
“So what are you doing today?” He said as he smiled.
Drake didn’t want the girl to leave because he really didn’t have any friends here, and he wanted one more that anything else. He put his bag on the bench next to him and made eye contact with Mac. He knew that a person always felt more confident if you gave the eye contact.

Mack held up her notes, "Trying not to fail all my classes. And you?" She tilted her head at Drake, her pale blue eyes not leaving his gaze. Most people hated when Mack stared straight at them, her blue eyes always hinted that she knew more than she was letting on. Secrets hidden behind those misty eyes. She seemed evil, but Mack was really sweet to those she cared about.
"Haven't seen you around much though, and I know Hogwarts doesn't accept transfers, so that would make you come late, and I mean really late. And am I being too nosey if I ask, why?" Mack raised an eyebrow at Drake, knowing no one liked their history or life to unfold to a total stranger. Didn't matter anyway, Mack would find out. Sooner or later. She always found out.

Drake questioned himself when he thought about telling the girl his story, but it wasn't really that personal.
"I'm late because my father decided to sell our house. He and my mother are never at home, and I'm always at school. I personally don’t think that it was a good idea, but what daddy says goes." He looked away from her solid mysterious gaze as he said this.
"My family and I have never really been there for each other, and when I do go home I’m there by myself."
Drake tilted his head, only slightly. He met her eyes again and tried to change the subject.
"I've only recently come so I'm really behind on my studies. I don't know what I'm supposed to do. By the way, are you going to take Ancient Runes?" He questioned.

"Parents. Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em." Mackenzie muttered, she shook her head with a sigh and pulled up her shoulder bag onto her lap. She flipped open the flap and searched around in it a bit, and finally came up with a sketchpad and a pencil. She turned on the bench and faced Drake, her pencil working magnificently on the paper. She had been drawing awhile, enough to be able to make a suitable drawing or portrait. Mack was a quiet girl, she kept to herself, never talked to many people and when she did she was rather cold and distant. So this gave her time to take up new hobbies, to learn new things. She read a lot for a Slytherin, she could sing, dance, she did martial arts, she wrote poems and stories, she could play the piano, all in all Mack was one very talented girl. Not many knew this about her though, but she thought no reason to flaunt...her life, her business.
Mack smiled as she looked up at Drake to sketch an eye, listening to him. She was so into her drawing that she almost didn't catch his question. Mack looked up again, "Ancient runes? Hmm, I'm pretty swamped. Ancient runes really isn't my thing, I might take it though, I'll have to speak with Professor Vector if I come in late though." She answered thoughtfully. Mack was good with her school work, better than her sister, and she liked the idea that she might be able to go to a class she really didn't need. She then realized something, "You know, Drake, if you need some help with the whole catching up thing I am willing to help you. I'm a good student, and I know my things. Great notes, nice essays, if you need help don't hesitate to ask." Mack smiled at him, her eyes not leaving the sketchpad.

Drake smiled slightly, but only to hide the bigger smile that wanted to show it’s self. Drake really liked talking to this girl, and he noticed that she was really pretty while she was drawing.
“I think that I could use a quick catch up on the classes.” He said trying not to move his lips too much. IT was rude to move while someone was drawing you.
“I just need to know what we have been studying, and things like that.”
As Drake looked over Mack’s shoulder he saw two birds flying side by side in the horizon. He knew it to be a sign that a friendship was in his future.

Mack looked up again, moved her hand to the bottom right corner, and without looking down, signed her name and the date. She then turned it around to face Drake, "Need a tutor? I'm your girl. Although, I'm not sure I have the patience." She smiled again and tore out the picture, handed it to him, and put her sketchbook away.
"So, question: how could you tell something was wrong with me? I mean, before? 'Cause that was a bit weird, not many people can tell something about someone just by looking at them." Mack pulled out a bag of candy from her shoulderbag and offered some to him. It was nice to talk to someone in her house, besides Mary and her sister.

Anna walked up to Mackenzie. "Hi nice to meet you." She pulled out a soda,(Dr Pepper),and looked up. She looked at the chart. "Does everybody have to sign up?" She asked. Smiling she read the chart. Not wanting to say,but she just thought,I can be a tutor.
